I just updated to official 8.0 and I noticed that I can't get PIP to work by pressing the home key. Is anyone else experiencing this problem?
I'm not having any luck with it either.
What are you guys testing on? Youtube? Do you guys have youtube red?
No luck here either....tried it on YouTube and Chrome.
It only works on YouTube Red or Google Music paid subscription. I have both and running pip with no issue.
Sent from my Pixel XL using XDA-Developers Legacy app
Works for me too. Read somewhere uninstall and reinstall might fix it too.
I can't seem to get it to work on my pixel either, updated to the official 8.0 today, can't see what I'm doing wrong, does it have to be enabled?

I wondering the same thing! I did a clean install of oreo so you can rule out any kind of bug from not doing a clean install and I have youtube red...
Pip is app related. So for now only as ppl mentioned above YouTube red(which is not available worldwide and also needs a paid subscription) and a few paid apps have the ability to work with it. Soon we will see more developers attaching pip mode in their apps, all we have to do is wait I guess
It works for me in Youtube (Red), Chrome Beta and whatsapp
It works just fine in chrome.
1. Launch Chrome app
2. Find a video to watch and tap on it so that it is playing in full-screen
3. Simply select the home button and the video player should shrink down in size
4. With the smaller player, you can move it around your display, play and pause the video, or tap on the headphones icon to have the video play in the background
5. At any time, you can select the smaller player and tap on the center icon to reopen the Chrome application
6. When you’re done watching, simply move the player to the bottom of the display and it will close
I don't think you need YouTube red to use PIP. I didn't have any issue in developer preview. If you look at my attachment, you can see that chrome and YouTube were given permission.

Yeah that seems ok. Your Android version is ready for pip but the apps yet are not ready to perform this way
I did a video call in Duo with DP4 and PiP worked without issue. I haven't had it work though with Youtube however I don't have Youtube Red.
Both PIP and Splitscreen work fine for me (I do not have YouTube Red).
I had been on the 8.0 beta for a while and remember reading a guide that showed us how to add the 4th (far left circled in red) button that acts as the PIP button. If I can find the write up again, ill link it.
EDIT:
This is how I got it, so might be a little different, but it works.

The navigation bar section in System UI Tuner was removed back in DP3. This method seems to still work https://www.xda-developers.com/desp...av-bar-lockscreen-in-android-o-dp3-heres-how/ to add a PiP button.
We should be able to use a built-in system feature without the need of a 3rd party application.
Took this from Android o introduction guide

I'm rooted and installed custom navigation bar per the link. If I go to add an extra right or left button, pip does not show up as an option. I'm on the official oreo release. How does this work? Thanks
Update - by following instructions here: https://android.gadgethacks.com/how-to/enable-android-os-picture-picture-mode-right-now-0176848/ was able to create an extra button for pip. Custom navigation bar pretty much provides the same functionality as the now missing sytem ui tuner. My issue now is that if I go to full screen the navigation bar is hidden, if I double tap to get them back then I'm out of full screen. This happens in Chrome using the desktop version of youtube. I still get a pip but it is of the whole chrome youtube page, not the youtube video.
Nevemind - still learning oreo. If in portrait mode with full screen, I can swipe right to left and get the nav buttons back, then I can use the extra button I created to do pip. Just discovered that the feature that hides the button is called "immersive" mode which I suppose is great if you want to watch videos or anything else full screen without the nav buttons showing.

Yes I also find it a very useful app. Use if for Netflix and Crackle and for some games.
I usually enable full!screen when browsing the web. Btw is there any way to close recent apps when full!screen enabled?

Just curious: why?
I use this also in combination with Rotation Control. I like to hold my tablet horizontally and when I open Crackle it goes vertically. So now it goes horizontally with Rotation Control and fullscreen with full!screen+

I am using LMT v1.91.apk and FullScreenToggleV2.
Nexus 7 JB 4.2.2 all perfect.
First install LTM. For the moment, leave everything at default enabled only the service (Autostart TouchService) and start (Start/Stop TouchService). Then if you want you can customize it (also serves for the gesture). Check the operation of LTM, make a tiny thumb slide from right to left in the middle of the right side of the tablet, it will open a pie (cake) with buttons that we are going to remove.
Watch the video to get an idea http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=stDR9_fANBY
If everything works, install FullScreenToggleV2 and activate it (Disable nav bar, full screen). It seems that nothing happened but now reboot your tablet and you should have the full screen ready to use :fingers-crossed:

I emailed the dev about this to see if there was a way for him to allow closing of recents through the app and this is his reply:
The well known "swipe-to-kill" option currently is not possible. The information
used for the recent-apps-list is handled by Android itself and it is not
possible for user apps to remove items from that list. However I am trying to
find a workaround.

I thought, would be nice to talk separetly about the KitKat International B510 firmware. Also we can write reviews.
My FIRST impression about this KitKat update is mixed. I missing a lot of features, like Permission manager for push services?!
Video playing is really bad! Standalone and online also. If i open videos online, and rotate the screen, i only hear the sound but the screen flashing all the time. Also video image slides alot!
Sometimes the launcher freez, when scrolling to another page. At multi-tasking when i close app with gesture, (not clicking on "X") it closes not smoothly.
Permission manager is gone? A lot of apps needed that, to work properly. For example: Facebook Messenger Cheat heads blocked, so i cant use it because of that.
Others? Whats your imressions overall?

Yes. Give it a shot, it is much faster and all the new functions are running very smooth. The performance is much better.
Update this beta version through OTA (I attended to do beta tester).
No problem with standalone and online video, about launcher seems slightly less fluid, I recommend using a theme created for 2.3 EMUI version.
About the permission manager, I suppose it's changed the method of management with the app "phone management"
I love the new keyboard and the new lock screen !

Yes, im okey with changes, but if it's working well. In phone management you'll not finding any options to set up, permissions neither push options. So it's not a good "change".

I find instead the new implementation significantly easier to use than before, for example, the widget is really functional and also the new management once you understand how it works, I do not mind at all.
It is true, I have not found the settings about notifications, but the rest is "smarter" :highfive:
for me no problem with video playback ( i sugest hwreset)

it runs good as for day of usage ;p

@BeyondTheHorizon (assuming your working for Huawei)
My impressions, after updating from B506 to B510. Note that since i have already used Emui2.3 beta (B014) and Emui 2.0 (official) i will not get into mentioning its improvements over Emui1.6.
- Magazine lockscreen is awesome. But i don't understand why magazine option is enabled only for a selected theme, while a few other theme have weather option on lockscreen, and why not instead have them all for all themes. (Also haven't figured out what the "link" option is within the magazine lockscreen menu).
- Overall there is lags and inconsistency in transition and animation speeds everywhere.
Examples:
> Pulling down notification panel has slower animation then when pulling it back up. While on the other hand there is also a jamming lag when notification panel goes back up.
>Random lags when moving about homscreen pages.
> lag in settings sections when entering each settings item.
- I personally dont like the splitting of drop down panel into two "notification" and "switches". The combined was much better. Even in the split form, there is design inconsistency, for example in the switch panel there is lot of free empty space on the bottom half and there is no point in having a slide down arrow to reveal just one row of switches. Furthermore it would have made sense to have the switches fill the bottom half, as it makes it easier for one hand usage. But i still prefer the the combined form which just two rows of switches and brightness option, while the rest hidden under the slide down.
- Thankfully the weather 4x2 widget is proper size, compared to the huge size on B506 and B014. But the transparent clock widget (first introduced on Honor 3c & 3x) is not yet available on this rom.
- The video player app is missing (and like others mentioned, the permission and startup apps manager, one hand option and navigation bar hiding option is missing too)
- I was hoping for changes in the "customize" section of the theme changer app. The old problem of swiping right/left a lot to get to the end of the lockscreen styles, or icons types, etc remains a burden.
- As someone said, its time to change the grey color of navigation bar. Either allow users to customize it, or have a number of colors that changes according to apps.
- In contacts "favorite" section, there is Chinese fonts.
- I don't think there is a need to have all the google apps pre-installed. Just a couple of them would be enough, while the rest can be downloaded from playstore.
- The water mark option in camera is nice. Cant find the "Cheeze" to take pics option. The photo editor is great and fun too. Video recorded on camera comes out dark. In case of taking selfie pics, once you hit the shoot button, the screen weirdly gets all yellow before taking the pic. Photos looks grainy too. But im no expert on camera, so i could be wrong.
- The Chinese rom had an app center app, and at times the latest version of the Huawei apps would be available on that. Such app updates are not available on this rom.
- The types of transition effects for homescreen keeps decreasing with every new rom update, when instead we should be getting newer ones added.
- The homescreen icons on this rom appear slightly bigger compared to them on the Chinese rom. Can be noticed when applying emui2.0 theme icons on this emui2.3 launcher.
Good and bad in B510
Good
- Magazine lockscreen is really good. I like it, hope more themes are like that.
- I like the splitting of drop down panel into two "notification" and "switches". But I hope they could have a setting to enable/disable it.
- Floating apps are awesome.
- Torch in notifications is very useful.
- Ultra power saving mode changes UI to dark black --> seems convincing that it will save battery life. Overall this rom has decent battery life.
- External SD settings
Bad
- Just hope that when I use other music players it can get the controls on the lock screen. Also, if there was a music slider to skip a few seconds of music was available on lockscreen that would be good.
- Hope that the default launcher could have a drawer. Having all the apps on the screen is messy.
- The radio widget still isn't transparent while the other huawei widgets are. It stands out and looks ugly.
- No permissions manager. It blocks facebook chatheads by default because it draws over other apps. No way to unblock it because permission settings are missing.
- The grey color of navigation bar is horrendous. Hopefully they notice this and they make it black or able to customize.
- Camera pictures look grainy.
- GPS still sucks. Don't know if it is a hardware issue.
- No ART mode
Other
- I don't know what to think about the carrier name. I feel like it's ok, don't hate it or like it.
The carrier name HAS to go! Why do they need to put it there anyway?
I agree with @warea about the notification panel that is better in Emui 2.0. Having it separate could work if you can change the settings of how you want it to be opened.
I find that the rom is a bit laggy most of the time, but for a beta I can live with it.

The carrier name it's something new for this update. And everything else it's really just a matter of opinion. The most important thing is that this ROM must run smooth and fast without any lag when it will be released as official/final. Everything else is just customization that can be added or removed by rooting and installing third party apps.
Also noticed, my phone is really hot, even for simple use. And the battery is really bad on this rom.

The custom navigation bat app, that was used to make a button so that PIP would work on youtube without the youtube subscription is not working anymore, yes the custom nav bar app is enabled and working but youtube just wouldnt go into picture in picture mode anymore. While the other apps are working fine. Does anybody know what to do to make it work
Same issue here after the September update
I have seen a few discussions about the topic of getting the Kill App option for the Nav bar. Holding the back button would be the ideal implementation for me. I find it much quicker than going to recent apps and flicking away the app that I want to kill.
I have not found an answer on how I might do this on the Pixel 3. Seems like Oreo had a Developer Option that was removed in Pie.
A Gesture app seems like one approach, but I would like to hear from others on how you do it?
Thoughts?

Hey, do you mean that you want to kill all recents by long pressing the back button?
If so, I had a quick look and basically a third party app can't really do that because in java the REMOVE_TASKS option is a signature-level permission. This means the app needs to be signed by the same signing key as the device firmware. In short, a rom developer could implement this, but not a third party developer.
In short, maybe a request to your rom dev is the way to go!

It is a setting that GravityBox allows and comes in handy to quickly exit an active application. I hope we see this feature on the Pixel 3 XL custom ROM that will be coming out.

Awesome. Are you using the Tulsa mods too? When I install the SystemUIedgebase.zip for the Tulsa mods, I lost all my other mods (center clock small ampm, small LTE, no GPS pin and 3Minit).
I would love to get the EdgeSense and the Status bar mods working at the same time. I have a similar question posted on the Tulsa Mod thread.
EDIT: I had to install the Magisk Mod for Edge Sense and now they both work! I dont see the Kill App as an Action in the Edge Sense app. Is it called something else?
EDIT2: I had to enable ROOT for the EdgeSense app, now I see Kill App. YEAH!

Another suggestion - All In One Gestures! It has a long-press back to kill app option, though I should note I'm using it having both rooted and reverted to the old, 3 button nav bar as per Mishaal's guide. I'm not sure what All-In-One does when you've still got the gesture navigation pill installed, but these are the settings I've got enabled having reverted to the 3 button navigation (https://www.xda-developers.com/disable-android-pie-gestures-google-pixel-3/):
You of course have to give the app root access, but otherwise no special settings as far as I recall from setting it up. Hope this helps!

My pleasure! It is a different app. I'm coming to the Pixel from a 3.5 year old Galaxy S6(!), and I just restored the app from a titanium backup. I think it was designed for phones with capacitive buttons, which might explain why it's no longer officially available. For this reason, it doesn't work quite as perfectly on the Pixel as it did on the S6 (the kill app function doesn't seem to click with a few apps). But it does do the trick in most cases. For me, I'm so used to the long-press gesture that it was worth going back to 3 button navigation for this alone, and worth sticking with it despite some imperfections in All-In-One when it comes to the Pixel. I suppose if you're still on the gesture system, you'll have to weigh up whether its worth removing the pretty new interface (and the Pixel launcher along the way, as Mishaal explains) for a functional yet slightly deficient alternative...
Here is another explanation

I upgraded to the December release and than followed the guide to bring back the old 3 button set up. Long press of the back button kills the current app! I even added the menu key to the left side of the screen My new Pixel 3 XL looks like my old Moto X Pure.
Thanks for the tip.
EDIT: Check out my retro Nav bar.

What did you do to get this? I don't quite understand.
With the introduction of Android 11, Task Changer no longer functions. I despise Android's native iOS-style task switcher. If I wanted my phone to function like an iPhone with iOS gesture garbage and UI copycats I would have bought an iPhone. It's especially annoying when I open the switcher to swipe away the current app only to realize it automatically scrolled to an app beside it and I've instead swiped away the app I wanted to switch to instead closing the current one. Not only does this do the exact opposite of what I wanted, it makes things even worse because I now have to reopen the app I wanted to switch to. Depending on what that is, text fields, progress, etc can be lost and require several minutes to restore. Blah blah you get the picture. It sucks. Many people must agree with me or Task Changer wouldn't exist as a first party app, let alone at all.
Tl;dr and the actual question, Is there anything out there that can be used to substitute the functions of Good Lock's Task Changer until Samsung updates it to work with the latest software? I've looked but I haven't been able to find anything. In addition to this question I've noticed that the navigation gestures don't work at all 70% of the time and require the gesture hint lines to be enabled in order for them to work reliably. Is this related to Good Lock not being updated which would otherwise smooth that out, or is it a general software bug? I only ask because I've had Good Lock's Task Changer active ever since the S8+ Pie update, which was two phones ago, so I've avoided the stock task switcher like the plague until now.
Wait a bit as Samsung should update it soon.
Any more I don't update any OS I like and if I do it's only after lots of positive feedback exists.
Still happily running Pie and W7X64, lol.

I used to rock the same boat. I have no idea why I strayed from that methodology this one time but I regret it. Maybe it was the notification history feature, but that's definitely not worth it considering a lot of things are now broken. Honestly with everything that's wrong with it it feels like I was given a beta version of the OS someone marked as stable only because it doesn't kernel panic. Not being able to reliably use the iOS-style navigation gestures that were forced upon me is a pretty big deal. You'd think people testing the software would realize that the single most used - and arguably most important - thing in the OS (back, home, and task switcher swipe-up gesture) doesn't work properly.

Android has the Windows Syndrome bad... mixed in with the Apple Swine Flu
Try One Handed Operation+, lol if it loads the new OS that is. It's gestures are reliable.
Low battery, resources use and rock solid stable.
I'm also very frustrated.
When bringing up the app switcher there is no longer an "apps" button that pops up a list of my installed app icons which I can then long press on and drag to open them in split screen, pop up view, or just open them regularly. It's just a blank screen now with only the apps I have open on it. Was that a feature of Good Lock's Task Changer too? I absolutely need that back. Multitasking is a nightmare and a half without it.

No, that was a feature of the normal app switcher. I personally don't like the goodlock one. I'm glad I'm on an S10 and still get options lol.
I couldn't agree more with OP. I get that some people want this unproductive annoying deck of card recent apps design, but why on earth isn't there more layouts to choose from in the settings somewhere. I've usually used custom ROMs, and most of them had these settings (I mostly used slim recents and I loved it), but not recently due to some apps' aggressive anti root, anti custom rom policies like banking apps, f***Ing snapchat, etc. I was so happy when I found out about Nice Lock, but then Sammy nagged about updating and I did it to my not-so-big surprise it messed up everything. Sorry I have no good answer here, just had to agree and ventilate.
Task changer is now an option in the Home Up app. Updated today.
But it's not working on my Note 10+ running latest firmware.

Seems like a error "fix" to task changer.
I downloaded Home up, from apkmirror website Saw 2 x versions available, with today's date.
Installed second update (Version: 2.0.01.11 (200100011)... as it stated there was a fix for Task changer that was force closing.
Big disappointment, as there is only really 2 new options. The normal list one, and the extra ones
Grid and Stack.
Good luck.

See my post below.
Try the updated version up Home Version: 2.0.01.11 (200100011)
Should work now as the updated version fixes Task changer that was force closing.
Just downloaded it. What happened to all the choices? There's only 3 now. I had liked the grid view where I can swipe up and down. Now I can only swipe right.

In my case I've sideloaded Home up module, from apkMirror website, the updated version of Home up ....version..... " .11" and my task changer is working ok.
See screenshot
Good luck
After sideloading the .11 update it still tells me to install the One UI Home Market update. So Home Up's Task Changer isn't working either.

This worked, but as someone pointed out earlier there are only three options for the task changer which don't even change the layout at all. Unfortunately this isn't useful, as it only moves the recent apps closer together or shrinks them. For now I guess it's back to waiting for the task changer app itself to be updated.

Knowing samsung, I'm afraid that this is it. And it seems to only work reliablywhen you actually use them as a home screen, I use Nova launcher

Fine Lock says Task Changer will be updated in March.
