I've been using my D855 with the same Samsung 64GB SD card from new, over 2 years, never a problem. Yesterday a notification appeared saying the card had been removed without unmounting it - nonsense, it's still in there. The "mount SD card" option in settings is greyed out. But the card is absolutely fine: I can read & write to it on my laptop. The phone doesn't see any other SD card I put in it either. So it seems the card slot has spontaneously failed. Is this a reasonable diagnosis? Any ideas as to how I can fix it, or should I be shopping for a new phone?
BTW: stock software, Android 5.0, V21a-TWN-XX, never rooted or tinkered with.

from y'day.. sometimes i get the below message when i switch the phone
"phone could not able to backup data to SD card"...
The phone seems to lose access rights to the SD Card, so nothing is displayed in the file manager (estrong or Astor) The only way to fix this is to restart the phone.
in the phone settings-> SD scard option, I still have the option to unmount the SD card.. but then I don't know who to mount it back.. the only way i am able to fix it is by restarting the phone...
from y'day till now I got this problem for 3 times..
Anybody else having problems with this? please help..
Hi, I have the same issuses. It is very annoying, especially when taking photos. I tried reformat card, but it worked only for a week. I have got euro version, firmware 1.15.405.4. I hope HTC will solve this issue together with multitouch issues in next firmware.
I bought a 16Gb card and cannot get it to work in the Desire.
I've tested it in the PC, formatted it etc but it still won't work.
I'm not convinced where the fault lies, with the card or the Desire.
I had a problem once with sd+camera app, but after a reboot everything worked
funny enuff. that happened to me 2 yesterday ?
Sent from my HTC Desire using the XDA mobile application powered by Tapatalk
One of my 16GB cards also got corrupted. I found it did not slide into the SDHC card slot properly and did become dislodged. Check to see if the SD card is inerted correctly. My replacement 8GB seems fine.

I have 16 GB Kingston Class 2 in my Desire and no problem so far, quite cheap too.
I have had this a couple of times.
Install the SDMount Widget. Unmount the card in settings, click the widget, back in business.
I'm experiencing this issue about once a week... :/

This doesn't work. I have the same problem as described above. I just ordered a new 8gb SD Card. I hope it's an SD card problem and not something wrong with the phone
Thread with same discussion here if you wanna check it out.
I've also been having SD card issues since I got the phone but yesterday things got worse!
After the problem occured again, I thought I'd try removing and reinserting the SD card (despite having done this before). When I restarted the phone it came up with a this message on the notification bar:
Blank SD Card
SD card blank or has unsupported filesystem.
I've tried reformatting the card in the phone, with the phone attached to my comp via USB, and with the card in a card reader. None of this works; the computer just doesn't recognise the card.
I've just emailed HTC support with the problem. I'll report back when I get an answer.
Also 16GB issue
Since a few days I have issues with my 16GB card also. I tried to install Navigon on the card by copying files directly to the card. After inserting it into the phone two out of three directories were empty....
Trying to copy fromt the pc to the Desire using it as a disk drive gave me the blue screen of death
I tried to install it using the original 4GB card and everything works like a charm
I tested the 16GB card (forgot what tool, it was a 1 month trial without write testing) and the card came out fats enough and without any bad blocks.
I will do a write test this evening (EU time) to see if I can fit 16GB ont the card, but everything points to the phone at this moment

I've had exactly the same problem which I posted about in another thread. Do let us know if HTC get back to you
Same problem with my Desire and a Sandik 16 Gb Class 2...
The card works fine on my mp3 player, but it is not recognized by the phone. I'm going to contact HTC, too.
My Desire has complained twice now that my 16GB SD card is damaged and needs to be reformatted. But when I put it in my Nokia N97, it works fine. The last time I did a disk check in XP, and that took care of the problem for a while at least, but it seems strange that the problem appeared in the first place.
Having invested in a 16gb class 2 Kingston card for my desire I can tell you that it brings nothing but grief. I then purchased a 8gb class 6 pqi branded card and found it to be flawless in performance. One thing I noticed with the class 6 card is the very fast speed in copying to and from the card. Much faster than the Kingston class 2. On the class 6 card I have never had corruption of data or any problem. I see comments posted that the class makes no difference. In my experience it makes a huge difference.
you guys are having issues with your 8GB/16GB cards, i was considering getting a 32GB a few days from now, after reading all this i'm having second thoughts.. does size matter ? (pardon the pun)
I don't think the size of the card should matter, but then again - it just might. I was wondering if there's a slight possibility my card got corrupted from when I've had it connected to my computer in disk mode. I only use the "safe disconnection of hardware" button in XP, but I don't select to unmount it on the Desire - it shouldn't be a problem, but perhaps that's how it got broken. Or perhaps it's just damaged and glitchy
Make sure the MBR is formatted too. Windows does not do this by default. Search for a tool on the internet.
Hi,
Done a quick search but couldnt find anything.
Ive had a problem for awhile now where i randomly get the message, something like, sd card damaged, format now. Even though the card is not damaged - or im quite sure its not. I think its a known problem.
Ive formatted the card and still had the problems. it seemed to choose when it threw these msgs at me. So i didnt use my sd card for awhile and it has just stopped giving me the error msgs now.
Btw - its a samsung 8gb class 2 sd card that came with the device from new. Ive heard that there are some problems with samsung sd cards. can anyone confirm? Im about to buy a 16gb kingston card.
The problem i wanted to ask about is that ive just checked my settings>more>storage and at the bottom there is a greyed out section that says "Mount SD card"
"Insert SD card"
so its like its not even recognising there is a card inserted. Im sure that i used to get a few more sections - even if they are greyed out when a card is inserted.
Ive removed the card and gave the device a reboot but still the same.
Can anyone help? i dont want to buy a new SD card if i cant use it.
Thanks
Note 2 N7100

Stock OS - no mods at all except swift keyboard.
I've had my G3 for over 3 months now without any issues whatshowever. Only recently did I get the popup "SD card unexpectedly removed", after this it kept on doing it every 5 minutes or so, wether it's locked or unlocked.
I've already tried reflashing my current rom (Latest Cloudy) and flashing a different rom (AndroidHD&CM). Nothing seems to work. Could this be hardware related?
I do have the same problem, the device can't find my external sd card altough is try to mount it, it just says SD card inserted but i can't find the card in on my file explorer.
Any idea what i'm doing wrong?
Ive been experiencing something similar here's my experience with SD card unmounting by itself:
I have completely stock LG G3 D852 on Kitkat 4.4.2. The problem is this: At random times I will wake my phone up to discover a notification that the SD card has been unmounted. Physically the SD Card is secure and has not been moved or shaken at all.
I will then attempt to go to 'settings' and mount the SD card. At this point the phone notifies that the SD card cannot be mounted or cannot be read.
I have found that by simply restarting the phone, the SD card goes right back to normal with all files fully readable as if nothing ever happened.
The SD Card is a Kingston Ultimate 64GB (Class 10 UHS-I) microSDXC Card, Up to 90MB/s read, 45MB/s write (SDCA10/64GB) which was placed in the phone brand new about the same time the phone was also new and formatted immediately in the LG G3. It has been in use for a little less than three weeks.
Same problem here. I am using a 128GB class 10 SDcard. The card works flawlessy in the laptop PC. I can not find any pattern, it seems to be random. I first thought it was related to overheating, but I had the same issue even when the phone is not hot.
Hi guys. I've same issue and as Oki said, it doesn't have any pattern. But I noticed that it happens just as an app read or write from/to storage. I tried almost any solutions:
Low level format
Cleaning gold connectors with alcohol
Insert sd when phone is off.
Reset to factory.
Changing rom.
I also tried other sd on my phone and still no success. Any sd fails after some minutes
I use my LG G3 with Android 4.4.2 (Stock firmware V10j with purpledrake root. Standard recovery) since 2 years without any problem with my sd card (32Gb class 10 by Samsung).
Some days ago, I installed link2sd beacuse I want to set some app as system-app.
As soon I installed link2sd I noted that my microsd was unmounted from phone.
So I didn't made anythings and I removed link2sd.
After that I continued to see my microsd mounted and unmounted itself.
To solve
I tryed to format sd (first using SDformatter v.4; then using windows fat32; then using minitool partition wizard; then in ntfs using windows following using phone to erase sd);
I buyed a new sd (32Gb class 10 by Verbatim);
I restored firmware to stock v10j, then v20n, then v30n, then v10n (I need Android 4.4.2);
I make root again with purpledrake;
I tryed to reinstall link2sd and complete its configuration with dual partition on sd (using an old 2Gb class 4);
I removed link2sd again...
During all this actions, all three sd cards unmounting then mounting continuosly!
Can you help me to solve?
Thanks.
I'm pretty sure I have mine fixed. If you remove the card and look into the slot you'll see the row of contact pins across the bottom. If you look carefully you'll find another pin running sideways under that row of pins. It comes from the left side and bends toward the bottom of one of those pins toward the middle of the row. It looks like the sideways pin gets contacted by the pin above it when a card is inserted. I took a fine tweezers and bent it up a bit. I also cleaned that point with contact cleaner. The problem is gone so far. Hopefully it's permanent.
Have to do this to post

Do u disassemble the top part of the phone before doing that? Because my G3 is suddenly doing this for a few days and i almost can't find a solution and i might try this since i saw the sideways pin on my sd card slot but I'm still not sure how to properly doing it. I just don't want to permanently ruined my sd card slot?
If I remember correctly you don't. But it didn't fix the problem for me. I finally got rid of the G3 and bought a Samsung.
I have a PNY a 64gb class 10 had this card since the phone came out,
I noticed that you could update to marshmallow by LG Bridge, so i did so, everything went smooth, however i noticed everything used to be saved on my sd card then was saved to my phone and its not reading my sd card at all.
Ive formatted the sd card through my phone by storage-sd card-settings-format- while im doing this at 20% it will say sd card is ejected but then proceeds and says its been formatted correctly.
However the phone will read the sd card only in SETTINGS-STORAGE, it will read the files on the sd card, how ever if i try and play music/movies it will not read it through my apps like mx player/poweramp.
Apps like app manger 3 - which i use to transfer apps to sd card will not read my sd card at all.
Ive tried and formatted the sd card through my phone only around 5 times and still the same problem.
any help

i dont have marshmallow on my g4 yet .....but as you describe it , it sounds like premission problem...
so have you tried to play with the presmission new thing at marshmallow or tried factory reset after formating the sd?

i would check the permission thing just to make sure.. here is a how guide for that
i dont know what you can do more than that, you could maybe try to check another microsd to check if it didnt ruined the file system on it or(or simply if the sd you have is broken) or to if it is really a OS issue...
but as it seems for now a lot of people having problem with the sd part of marshmallow...

ive tried to do permissions but it wont allow to change to sd card,
Ive reloaded phone and before it comes onto my home screen says mount my sd card, ive gone into storage - sd card- mount, restarted phone but again the same issue.
When im in camera mode the phone allows me to select where my photos will be saved (onto sd card), i can go into settings_sd card and read everything onto sd card, however its just moving apps onto sd card it will not allow.
Ive read online saying marshmallow may only allow apps to be saved on internal memory now due to previous versions off OS- was a problem with viruses being attached on apps which were saved onto sd card- was the main problem. Could it be this?, marshmallow doesn't allow this.
Use TWRP to format, that was the only solution to get my 128 GB sd card working after update again. The integrated format function always tell me success while notification said card damaged. After formatting with TWRP everything worked again
Edit: Are you sure you flashed correct patched kernel as this can disable vfat reading? Look here in forums, there is a thread about different version names for different countries (e.g. German V20a is polish version V20b)
Hello everyone so i have around 3 months since my phone stopped recognizing my SD card I've tried numerous file explorers on that play store and none recognize my SD card, and when i go to TWRP it says i dont have an external storage. Ive also tried other SD cards of good quality so i do not think that my phone is being picky with SD cards, it just stopped reading it out of the blue. I am running on Bliss Pop rom and did a factory reset but my SD card is still not being read, the rom shouldnt be a problem, right?
Recently, maybe in the past 2 weeks i started getting problems with my sim card and getting a message that says something along the lines of "No sim card inserted" message. i sometimes fix this by rebooting my phone but today the reboots did nothing for me in a span of 3-5 hours.
Since the SD card slot is above the sim card slot, is it possible that i have a hardware issue on my phone?
Any ideas as to what may be wrong with my phone?
I have an secondary battery and i got in the habit of doing battery pulls could that have had anything to do with my problems?(Seems dumb but i am just throwing this out there)
Thanks for any input i get
