MTCD KLD fixing bad WiFi - MTCD Android Head Units General

I only found similar information for another device here. So I decided to share my experience with you.
I got myself an MTCD device which is obviously manufactured by Klyde (MCU code: KLD).
Today I tried to work on the software and found the device to display good reception in terms of WiFi indicator bars and 72Mbps downstream speed. The access point was quite close too. However despite the claimed reception opening web-pages was almost impossible and often ended in timeouts.
For me it was clear the bad "antenna" (which is basically just a cable visible at the back of the device) is the cause for this.
So I decided to change this.
After opening the device I could see that there is an internal "antenna" and a second antenna which is the one visible at the back.
I know the device only has 2.4GHz WiFi so I just cracked up an old USR WLAN router I was not using any more. This router got 2 replaceable antennas and luckily the antenna ports were not soldered to the board but connected using cables.
Therefore I could simply screw the jacks from the WLAN router to the DTV holes (unused on my device) on the back and solder the cables to the board.
Here are some pictures:
After this "surgery" the radio still fits properly to my car. You might have to be careful using antennas which do not stand off too wide at the back of the unit.
The result was a dramatically increased wireless quality. In fact it does not show more signal strength bars than before and also still sticks to 72Mbps but web pages now open immediately, downloads from play store are quick as expected.
Given the fact those antennas are cheap (less than $1 on ebay) I can't really understand why this is not offered stock.

Cool, KLD MTCD units use an RTL8723bu (you can see it near where the 2 antennas are soldered) its a combined BT/WiFi chip so you may get better BT reception too.

Thanks for the reply. I didn't even check this but looks like you're totally right. I didn't have bluetooth connectivity issues before though. However I didn't use it much yet.
Thank you.

@SkyBeam2048
may I get the information which CPU your unit is working with?
I got a 7.1" unit manufactured by Klyde with an 8-core Cortex-A53 at 1.4GHz.
Unfortunately this unit works with Android 5.1.1 instead of 6.x and I am looking for an update.
Does your unit have something like a deep sleep mode, so that there is no cold boot after a short break?
By the way... I am talking about this unit...

My one is a PX5 device (8 core 64-bit [email protected] and 2GB memory.
However without having more information on your device nobody will be able to tell you if you got a PX5 or some custom design.
As asked here you might post the system about screen to get more information on the device you have.
The thread here was mainly opened to discuss about changing antenna on my device. Perhaps it would by worth for you to open your own thread for your issue and how to upgrade (if possible).

Indeed, the "1.4Ghz" bit is strange - it should be 1.6 (RK3188/PX3), 1.5 (RK3368/PX5) or "1.2" (Intel Sofia), not 1.4Ghz.
If its not a typo then it could be an Ownice octacore unit one of which I saw recently with an MCU prefixed by "KLD" suggesting that theyre made by KLD (which was news to me as I thought Ownice was a manufacturer in their own right), unless it was coincidently a random string of letters.
When he posts a screenshot we ll know . . .

Yeah, sorry for capturing your Wifi thread...
This is the unit which has been sent.

Thats the picture I was talking about that I saw the other day - its not and MTCB/C unit or an MTCD unit.
@ikerg said it was an Ownice unit, AFAIK Ownice was a manufacturer in its own right, so I was either wrong or, as I said, maybe its just coincidence and the "KLD" is not related to the manufacturer Klyde who make MTCB/C/D units.
So I d advise checking the Ownice threads in the Android Headunit General forum.

No it seems not to be an Ownice unit. Front and back are completely different to mine. Mine is exactly as shown at Klyde. The reset hole is not on top right as in Ownice units, instead it is positioned just on top of the SD-Card slot.
But thanks a lot and sorry again for capturing.

I wouldnt go by the reset hole, that can be anywhere.
It was @ikerg that said it was Ownice, he seemed quite certain.
Its deffo not MTC at all, or it would say "MTC" in the MCU field, I m a bit stumped, I normally refer people to the Android Headunits General forums for non MTC units, not sure what to say about yours, a I said I cant say whether the "KLD" means its Klyde or whether its just coincidence.
Maybe try contacting Klyde and asking if its one of their units ? Theyre here :

Thoughts? Thinking about ordering one.
I just returned a headunit from ATOTO because it worked like crap.
I like the prospect of 7.1 and offline maps already installed.
Quadcore vs Octacore I don't think makes a huge difference here.
Would love to know opinions.
I have a similar product to this with the product ID "B071LT7LC3" on Amazon. (I cannot post links yet) From the looks of things, my unit is likely the same hardware as yours, only with a different front panel and added DVD player. This is the information I read from the device:
MCU version: MTCD_XRC_V2.52_1
Build number: px3-userdebug 7.1.1 NMF26X eng.hct.20170527.145603 test-keys
Kernerl version: 3.0.101+ [email protected] #550
Model: px3 (800x480 O)
I sadly managed to brick mine by running an incompatible root method for Joying devices via Wireless ADB. I have not found a root method actually works on these units yet. If you are looking for an Android stereo that you can root, look elsewhere. I got a copy of the firmware from Hizpo, but not even that can fix the damage I did to it. It is with this warning I hope to prevent you making the same expensive mistake.
Note that you cannot use these units with a PC via USB, you must use Wireless ADB using an app. Use "126" to get into your factory settings and play with those, or "adbon" to enable debugging. You can also download a Development Options app to reach those settings, as they are hidden. The various methods of recoveries, including the one provided by the seller (Hold down the power button, turn on the power to the radio, release after 5 seconds and wait 30 to reach the recovery), did not seem to work for me either. It is possible I corrupted that too, but I am not sure.
I will happily share any other opinions I have about the unit if I ever manage to get it unbricked.

But certainly not root methods and certain firmwares. Pick the wrong one and you can brick your device beyond restoration - to the point where the recovery does not work and no firmware update worked to fix it. I had to get a new unit.

Yes, all RK3188 MTCD units are the same inside, they use the same SoM and ROMs ARE compatible as long as you get the screen res and processor type correct and even if you get the screen res wrong its no big deal, it wont brick.
However if you flash the firmware from an MTCB unit, or from an entirely different, unrelated unit , its sounds like this is what you did.
I was looking at this, but when I noticed it said PX3 I decided to skip.. Doesn't make sense to not have the PX5 chip.
Now if there was a version with a PX5 on the new os Id be interest.

Sure the PX5 will be fast, but the PX3, especially with 2Gb of RAM is perfectly good.

If you decide to order, please update with your impressions. I too tried the ATOTO M4 garbage head unit, and it has almost encouraged me to give up on them entirely. If you find this one to be worthwhile, with it being at a similar price I might give it a shot.

px5 upgrade

I have an older PX3 unit (i think, it's a rockchip rk3188 + 1gb ram, made by Joying) I'd like to upgrade. I've found a PX5 board: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32820356300.html and have been reading stories about BT/WIFI not working. I'm handy with a soldering iron, so I can potentially change out the BT/WIFI module if it doesn't, I'm assuming I'd swap it with this: https://www.aliexpress.com/i/32953209958.html if I run in to problems? Also, is there anything I'd need to do to the unit before swapping out the boards? flash anything? Is there a better board to upgrade to? I've read about PX6 boards but can't seem to find em on aliexpress. In all honesty i think the PX5 would be a sufficient upgrade, since this PX3 is just stupid slow. I don't care about 3g/4g dongles, just really want something that will run headunit reloaded for android auto.

Hi there as well
Please allow me to give you some advice.
1. The last post in this thread dates back to almost a year ago, so there is little chance of you getting the replies you are hoping for.
2. That gets me to the second point.
You could start a new thread in the Q&A section, with exactly that question you have posted today. Might get you some attention and ideally an answer to your question
Good luck!

MCU GS Hardware request VW

Hi fellow XDA members.
My radio GS MCU died due to hardware issues (broken and in not reparable state lanes due my own fault) and i'm searching for a replacement mainboard. Not the SoM with the CPU/MEM/EMMC
It's a VW DVD GS model which i upgraded from PX3 to PX30 to PX5. (Android 5.1, 6.0, 8.0, 9.0) I have contacted several sellers in China but they all reply they cannot deliver me a replacement part due to the age of the hardware. When trying to figure out i noticed that GS still creates mainboards but with an updated layout and chips but the connection ports are still the same. Not sure why they wont deliver me a replacement part.
Does anyone of you have a broken unit but the mainboard OK that i can buy?
Or let me know how i can in contact with the GS Factory. I tried to contact them using their address on the website of the factory but never received a reply.
The pictures included show you the board which is defective.
FlatcablePort layout:
2 ports for the SDcards
1 port for the LCD and its buttons
1 port for the DVD drive.
Thank you for who can help me out in my quest to fix the radio .
Compatible boards:
GS, CHG, XRC-602-MAIN
I'm from the Netherlands/Belgium.
Looks like a GS board Have you had a look on aliexpress, I see there are a number of resellers selling main boards.
The other option is to try Xtrons, you'll need their model code however. I was able to get a GS board out of xtrons quoting their model number a couple of years ago.
Also, consider an HA board from Dasaita - as long as the rear connector layout is the same, you should be ok.

That it is a GS board, that i already knew It was delivered with a PX3 5.1 board and i updated the MCU in the past.
The seller who sent me the device was contacted but he blocked me off with the message: They dont make that radio anymore so no repair parts. Which i think is a BS story but hey who can blame them. Why selling parts when you can sell a complete unit..
I tried several resellers but almost all denied or didnt answer. They only sell complete sets. I'm only able to find the board from the Dasaita, which is not compatible with my system due to the missing ports for the second SD and DVD player. (The one i found on Aliexpress)
Xtrons was the first and only one to reply willing to help but due to Corona i only get an confirmation around march.
I do not have a model number of their device which is the same as the one i have. I did sent all the info i had with some hope they can hook me up.
I found the same system but the reseller sees my messages (Aliexpress lets you know) but did not respond.
Link: https://nl.aliexpress.com/item/4000175298519.html
It's the same radio with the Android 5.1 manual, the seller only replaced the SoM's and selling them for the price of the newer systems.
Here's one that might be close enough https://a.aliexpress.com/_snm0Pb
Over priced though, you might be able to negotiate.
What happened with the mainboard, possibly repairable?

The board is beyond repairable, i made a screw up and its damaged badly.
A response was received by the seller of the same device stating that they do not sell parts.
I found this one, which meets the requirements and contacted the seller.
https://nl.aliexpress.com/item/32879522002.html
This one also denied.
Update 12-02-2020.
I figured out that a CHG board is also compatible.
Nobody has a board available? I contacted several resellers but all did reply that they did not sent out parts and even the seller where i did get the unit from denied to sent a repair part and wanted me to order a complete new unit..

Purchasing - Looking for advice on avoiding scams

Hi,
As per title, I have decided I want one of these HUs with the RK3399 and the MTCD/E MCU. I plan to flash with a custom ROM as soon as I have tested it and before installation.
History: had a Joying 10 inch a few years ago, hated it, want to do it right this time!
The vehicle (in my case) is a 2009 Toyota Prado 120 (similar to the Lexus GX470) RHD, The units I am looking at are full ctr console replacements with fascia and vertical screens.
After wading through the seemingly endless mire of Aliexpress listings and producing a shortlist, I am still a little overwhelmed and confused; prices and specs seem to be all over the place and in many places are contradictory. I'm an eBay kid, I have hardly used Ali before.
Of course, once I shorten my list a little bit more, I will get in contact with each seller to verify hardware specs and make sure I'm getting excatly what I am paying for.
So to help me (and maybe others having a read!) I have a few questions to help me filter out the 'too good to be trues' and the outright liars.
1. Hardware - does the fact that the unit has a RK3399 mean it is definitely a MTCD/E MCU?
2. Hardware(again) - does the fact that they state PX6 necessarily mean its a 3399?
3. Resolution - I have seen all manner of resolutions stated here... the most common seems to be 1024*760/600 but there are a fair few listings saying 1920*1080... which definitely piqued my interest. Is this an outright lie or is it possible that they really do have 1920*1080 displays? (my guess is they're listing it as a "yes it can display 1920*1080 content" and not necessarily actual screen res.)
I would love a true 1080 display but it's potentially too good to be true!
4. Screens - What specifically (if anything) should I look out for/ask about in relation to the screen? model number? some say IPS, some don't.... Are they all the same? (they certainly look pretty similar!)
5. AliEx stores - If anyone has any honest stores they would like to suggest I'm all ears(eyes?) Or even other outlets to buy these things? (eBay doesn't have much listed for my car) The stores I am shortlisting are ones that have decent ratings (obviously) and have been established for more than a year.
6. Anything else? tricks for new players?
Bear with me - its a solid chunk of cash and a decision I will have to live with for some years!
Yes it's my first post - have used the forum over the years for all sorts of information, hopefully I can give some back!
I'll have a go at answering some of your questions, but I'm fair new to this whole Android head unit game so if I'm wrong someone will hopefully correct me.
What was is it specifically about the Joying unit that you hated that you hope will be addressed by a new unit?

1) MTCD/E are MCU's manufactured by Microntek, but there are other manufacturers of MCUs out there than can be paired with the PX6, so there is no guarantee that a RK3399 means that the unit is fitted with an MTCD/E MCU
2) My understanding is that the RK3399 is a generic SoC, PX6 is a verson of the RK3399 specifically tailored for use in head units.
3) I don't know, but I would be wary of anyone claiming 1920 x 1080
4) Not sure
5) I bought a unit from Dasaita on AliExpress. It definately wasn't straightforward (first unit was sent to some other destination, they had to send me a replacement via DHL). But they did at least try to get things sorted ina timely manner. I chose Dasaita (aka hot-audio) mainly because they do post here on XDA. They are also on eBay, but the prices on Ali are better.
6) The aftermarket service from Dasaita leaves something to be desired, but from what I can see, none of them are very good at this. But I guess that's the price you pay for buying a cheap head unit. Overall, I'm very happy with my Dasaita PX6 unit, but i've only had it installed for a month, so early days.
Anyway, I hope that this is of some help to you, and good luck with your search!

Hey thanks for the reply!
The Joying unit was likely my own fault for not doing enough research prior to purchase, paid too much for too little I guess.
It worked well for a while but progressively got slower until it was nearly unusable for anything more than a clock and radio, this was quite a few years ago though and I had not found any alternative firmware at the time, I eventually just formatted it for some minor improvement and sold the car anyway.
With this new unit I will be running hal9k from the start instead of the default firmware and am expecting fairly smooth operation. It will be used for offline raster maps while I am out in the bush
Thanks for the information regarding the hardware, I still had a few grey areas in my mind there so that helps clear a bit up.
I wanted to use Dasaita as they seemed to be recommended but they do not sell to suit my model.
I will start making some enquiries today and see if I can get any clarification on those 1920 displays.
Cheers!

I hope this is the right forum.

I apologize if not. I'm desperate for assistance and I hope someone can point me in the right direction. I recently purchased a Dasaita Vivid 10 on Amazon for my 2015 Camry. Few things:
After installation and turning it on, I wasn't presented with the first time user setup. Additionally, there were a few local MP3s on there. Specifically "Hotel California" from The Eagles. Is this normal or was I sold a used unit? The unit itself had the plastic on the screen. ZERO marks that it was used. Everything from my perception was brand new.
However, when I went to connect WiFi, I received the seemingly common error of it turning on and instantly back off again. As such, I did a factory reset. This erased all of the music that was on the device. This leads me to think that it shouldn't come with music...
Each time I turn my car on, the WiFi is a red X on the icon on the bottom right. To resolve this, I need to hctreboot the thing using factory settings. After this, it will work. However this really sucks and I don't want to do this every time I get into my car. Last night I changed the BT setting and I believe it may have fixed the wifi issue. However, this broke Bluetooth. When I loaded up a hardware info application, there was a mac address for WiFi but none for BT. Is there a way to know which module I have to select the right setting?
Can someone explain exactly what I can do to fix this? After searching for hours I am so lost with all of the terms. Vivid, Scout, MAX. I have no idea where to even get a firmware file. What does MTCD stand for? While it may be considered a budget radio, $530 bucks is a big chunk of change for a radio to be this unreliable. I wrote on Dasaita's forums and it looks like they couldn't care less to assist people. Frustrated, and I'd like help here before returning this and returning to the stock unit. I can provide pictures of anything if needed, just let me know!
Thank you all!
Welcome to the world of cheap Chinese origin Android head units and quality issues.
There is no first run, that is normal.
MTCD refers to a type of unit based on HCT design. There are a bunch of factories that produce these and a bunch of resellers, such as dasaita that sell them, applying made up brand names and model codes. Dasaita appear to price their units at a premium.
Suggest returning it for the hardware issue and look to an FYT based unit, which might get you closer to what you want.
I no longer recommend MTCD based units, and have since brought an FYT 7862UIS based device. The bugs are less, superior hardware, fantastic audio and works without all the mods/hacks.

Aww man, not the news I wanted to hear however it was expected. At this point I might just go back to stock. I really loved how the dasaita fit into my Camry as it looks super OEM and clean.
Do you know of any of the FYT units that look OEM for a 2015 Camry?
Is this FYT: https://www.joyingauto.com/joying-1...radio-replacement-2015-2017-android-auto.html
I have a 2017 Camry and have this head unit:
https://www.amazon.com/SYGAV-Android-Toyota-Carplay-Navigation/dp/B08PKZY28H/ref=sr_1_1
While it's not a FYT unit, I will tell you that it does not have Vivid installed on it and has worked quite well in my Camry for over a year now.
Would be happy to answer any questions about it. I posted a review on Amazon and have answered a few questions over on Amazon as well.

Thanks so much for this! If I can't get my Dasaita working correctly, I will absolutely return and get that one!
