Which was my point. It does seem a bit foolish to expect active development on a device that has yet to be released for another month.

I agree.
I read that the official kernel was released, by lenovorola, so things should be happening, soon.
It has only been the Verizon version up until recently. In a few months as more people buy and developers buy, you'll see more activity here.

It's been available for the US for over a month. It was released 8/18 or 8/21, I can't remember which, but I remember it was that weekend.
Shouldn't we also see factory images for this thing too? I don't mind messing with it and poking around but I want a way to go back to stock if I screw something up.

Look at the date of OP's post.

He was asking for custom roms before the device was shipping from the factory.
Stock image is already available and has been posted in other threads. It was how I made my TWRP build for the Retus version of the Z2 Play.
They're available here: https://mirrors.lolinet.com/firmware/moto/albus/official/RETAIL/

The only thing that I am confused about is... is the image the same for all the Z2 Play variants? I seen a bunch of them, from -01 to -07 (I'm not even sure what the US one is, I get mine on Wednesday).

While the Z2 Play are all called "Albus" as a codename, the US is "Retus", Retail US variant of the Albus. (Settings > About Phone > Software Channel) There is an international variant, too, (Probably also called Retin like my Z Play is called) Someone built a TWRP based on an international image and it was incompatible with Retus, so I would not quickly assume that images are interchangeable until roms are built against a device tree (Like LineageOS keeps) with all the variant differences merged together into the kernel.

Okay, so the stock image you linked isn't the one we need for Retus then? That's what I want to have as a fallback.

What I linked is the stock image for Albus/Retus. With the Moto devices, it's typically Device Codename/Software Channel.

Albus is the device code name i.e. the hardware's code name. Retus, reteu, retca, retin etc are the software channels. So all variants of Z2 play will be called Albus (except maybe the Verizon locked ones or 3gb /4b ram variants or ones with/without nfc maybe called differently I don't know) whereas they will be on different software channels. I am assuming it is exactly the same for a particular hardware variant(for eg i have one with NFC and 4gb ram and all unlocked z2 play phones in all markets with 4gb ram and NFC will have same software) that is available unlocked in all markets of the world .
Edit: Posts I am basing my assumptions on:

Actually, I'd be satisfied with our firmware avilable on Motorola's site and an official TWRP.
This is the first phone I haven't felt the need to have a custom ROM for absolutely nothing, it's just veeery stock with exactly the thingy majiggis I would install anyway, and also have the fortune that my carrier is the cleanest carrier of all, absolutely no bloatware whatsoever, only the radio "PRIP" service. Not saying it wouldn't be great to have some custom action, but not really having a hurry for it.
Not planning on rooting mine yet, but I'm curious, does the TWRP for Retus work on Retca (Canada) my variant has 3GB of ram and NFC
I'm close to being where a don't feel the need to root.
I miss battery bar with no battery icon and dark backgrounds, but I could probably live without.
What I can't live without is Dolby Atmos.
I'm just bit gushy about rooting, with no official TWRP and original firmware available from Motorola.

You actually don't need root to do the battery stuff, you can do this with stock. Enable the hidden System UI Tuner (https://lifehacker.com/the-coolest-things-you-can-do-with-androids-hidden-syst-1773364942), then you can disable the battery icon.
Then just go grab one of the battery bar apps from the Play store. I use Power Bar (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.etechtour.batterybar&hl=en)

First of all sorry for posting thread here in dev sector, but here audience is bigger.
I want to ask devs. Why do you make model-specific mods? Eg AndroidNow supports only D855 and the CM vs LiquidSmooth too.. And many other roms....
What about "korean" series F400SKL or others? It is possible to make multi-variants via AROMA as it did Cloudy.
So answer to me - Is it so hard for developers to bring their ROMS for more people?
P.S. As i know, the difference in models is only in kernel and modem, so why not?
I think once the bump tool is released today, this won't be a big problem.
Because people cant follow simple instructions!

I read the post and don't understand this completely. Does it say that you can use every LG G3 rom on every G3 model?
I believe as long as the kernel matches your device, you should be fine. You might run into problems flashing a Verizon ROM on an AT&T phone though with service and stuff though.
Okay despite you saying that you know that this post was not supposed to be in here doesn't excuse it from being in this sub-forum. Q&A would've been much better since you're asking a question and believe me when the amount of audience in here is just as same in there.

Ok, lets take G3 Android Development section.
S3V3N is a developer of AndroidNow. This ROM is stock-based, and it has awesome features, but the only model it support is D855, so it can't be installed on F400SKL or other model with different kernels and basebands. My question is - Why it support only one model? Why cant developer add AROMA and push there more kernels for more variants of G3 as it did Cloudyfa in his CloudyG3?
And there more ROMS with support of only D855 (which is G3 modification for Europe) For Example CM and LiquidSmooth
As for me, i have bought G3 when in day it was released, and that model is F400S. I think there many people who like custom ROMs but the are not able to try CM on our device because of no support

I think its because pepole without a contract are most likely to buy the D855 variant...
you cant expect a developer to maintain a rom for every variant out there, you can however learn and explore how to get it working for your variant and build it from source.

What contract are you talking about? I bought F400S in Russian LG official retailer. It was unlocked from factory. The box was sealed.
Yeap i can learn how, but i wont to become dev again, and most of people with G3 dont want to develop roms, they want to use CM or others..
I have no idea how @Cloudyfa did his patch to make his ROM work for all variants. He also helped the MIUI dev get that working on all the variants as well. Also this Bump thing is all new to me too. I'm not sure how it all works.
I have the D850 and I flashed AndroidNow when it first came out. It worked fine on my device minus a problem with in-call audio which was not a kernel problem. I believe it was a RIL problem, but whatever the problem was, Cloudyfa made that patch in his ROM to work on all variants.
I'm no dev but I've been around and maybe someday would like to get into ROM developing. I had fun theming the Galaxy SIII back in the day.

It is not a patch. He made AROMA zip with switchable models. choosing a model will install specify kernel, modify build.prop and add some files into /lib /etc (they configure gps region, bluetooth country settings, lte gsm and wcdma bands)

I didnt say you got it under contract, I meant that the most common variant is D855 and that's why chances are that if you're a Dev you got that variant(unless you're from the US and got it under contract from one of the carriers) ... Plus, you say most people don't want to develop for the G3 but you expect development to pick up for all variants, if you gonna demand something to fit your needs you better be ready to assist.
Sent from my caseless LG G3, because I believe in myself
It's simple. You usually develop ROMs for the device that you have. Easier to debug issues for a device that you have rather than ask someone else to do so.
If you're frustrated by the lack of development for your device, PM a dev that develops ROMs for D855, ask him politely if it's possible for him to do so for your variant, and offer to maintain & debug the issues with your device. Sorry to say this but the way you're asking here in this thread comes across as rude and demanding.

F400 is the first variant of G3. It was released 2 months earlier than D855.( or mb 1 month idk) so why European version received CM and other thing earlier? I cant imagine that there are no devs who bought G3 at start, i mean F400

Just search in CM AndroidNow and other for hotword "F400" and u will see that users asked for it long time ago
Asking for it does not entitle you to get it. That is not how XDA works. The devs do what they do for free, for the community, in their free time or as a hobby. It should not turn into something that they *have* to do or be difficult to maintain.
Like I said, PM a dev asking for pointers on how to port stuff for your variant or ask them if they can do so, offer help. Don't post a thread demanding & questioning them.

Stock kernels do not need bump, cloudy uses stock kernels.
If anything the devs do enough by just making the ROM
It'd be cool for someone to make a porting guide. Or even better a stock installer script or an aroma installer that automatically detects the model and flashes the appropriate kernel etc. I'd take on the challenge but I'm not too confident in my skills on this stuff. First step would be diff the stock roms and compare the changes

Okay so if I may ask you. I have a Tmo G3 which is unlocked. I'm running Cloudyfa rom. I have at&t service. In his aroma installer there's an option for both at&t and Tmo. I chose Tmo and can't seem to get the LTE icons to show. Would I be able to flash the at&t option instead in order to get the LTE icon and not damage the phone? Sorry for the long drawn out question.
Thanks for you help.

They're out there, google 'nash' roms and you should be able to find them. Some don't get posted here per XDA's request, the developer's, and/or both? Not sure what which is the case, but they're out there. I think they might be gearing more for treble and pie which isn't official on either side for us at the moment. With an official pie update in the future I'm sure some are hoping that'll fix some annoyances that have not been completely ironed out on the stock and custom side.

Customized CH did, indeed.
Silly question : Would an update, like this one, need to update with previous versions first before upgrading to this one ? I'm asking this because here in the UK, I'm still with the Customized UK 47.1.A.16.20. And I've never had any Pie update available displayed on my phone.
Several versions have been dispatched to other zones in the world, including several for different UK providers but then hang in the middle of the roll out. Plus in the Support > Software section of my G8441, it says in the "Next Android version" sub section : "No new Android version planned yet".
It looks weird, isn't? Not to mention after Sony started to roll out their very first Pie firmware for the G8441, my Xperia Companion said a new Software version was available, with no description, no firmware version number, and when trying to download it, Xperia companion crashed and needed to restart. Few hours later, when opening it again, the 'New Software' notification disappeared. Since then my phone displays "No new Android version planned yet".
Is this related ?
Thanks in advance, and sorry for the half off-topic...
I too have the customized UK phone, and nothing here either
Does someone know which .sin files to exclude if I want to install the new firmware (I already have Pie) with newflasher but want to keep my existing settings, apps and data?
I know that persist*.sin should be excluded to avoid losing android assets keys and userdata*.sin also I guess by the name. Anything else?
I have an unlocked bootloader with DRM keys backed up and restored with Customized CH 47.2.A.2.33 installed. I also have flashed the secd patch so the phone offers OTA update, but I know it won't work with the bootloader unlocked.
Came OTA in Switzerland. Update worked like a charm and I don't see any changes except for December security patch.

Updates don't work like that. If you have the CH ROM, you'll get the OTA for that. If you have UK rom, you'll get the UK rom update regadless of the place you are in.
You can manually flash a different rom customization (uk, ch, nordic etc) and then het updates for that one. I don't know if there are some disadvantages doing that though, as some customizations might have specifoc stuff for some countries / carriers.

From what I am deducting all around the web (Sony forums, XDA, 4pda) just keep Oreo and don't bother seeing the number 9 instead of the 8 in the about section of your phone.
I had the OTA update notification for a few weeks, neved installed and eventually it disappeared because Sony has shut down the updates as of Pie bugs reported in their forums.
I am still on latest Oreo and I am going to keep it until I see a totally polished Pie, and it will take months!
Apart from slowmo 960fps in FullHD I truly do not see any reason to update, because the cons are more than pros.
Sure, security patches will be up to date, but does anyone feel the difference having a few month outdated patches? The security is in the hands of the user.

They are in the early days for Android 9 Pie. And Sony is one of the first companies to release pie updates. It's buggy, which is the usual after updating to a new major android version. The previous version 47.2.A.2.33 was not even completely rolled out before this current version started rolling out. I'm sure the usual rollout schedule will continue as the software matures.

Hi guys! Please be patient as there were some bricked devices.

Almost all bricked devices so far were because of WRONG file placement inside adb folder if you believe it ...

As I said, here in Oz we've been stranded with Android 9, security update is for Oct 19, with no Android 10 release in sight and only excuses and buck passing from LG.
Do we know if this will allow Android 9 to be rooted and, finally, be updated to the latest OS?
Cheers guys...

Yeah, there may be an issue there... You can only use temp root on Android 10. Specifically what phone model (carrier/region that the phone is from) do you have? I don't mean your current carrier necessarily, just the branding of your model.

It's the LM-V500EM, like Europe, however, it is distributed exclusively through Australia by Telstra.
This means we can't upgrade using another country's firmware but also, as we aren't part of Europe and UK, we can't unlock the bootloader. :crying:
Again, every time LG is asked about newer firmware the finger is pointed at Google.
When Telstra is asked, mostly just the sound of silence but if you do hear whispers it's no firmware has as yet been supplied and to check with the manufacturer of the device.
Google also has the advice Telstra give about the updated firmware which puts LG in the drivers seat and they're still sitting at the bar at the start of happy hour as far as Australia is concerned, and every hour is happy hour..
Hence we need to be able to unlock the bootloader and root to update our expensive and, supposedly flagship device.
You understand the frustration and impatience...
should we be looking for a brand in particular of the phone beside the korean one? Plannign to upgrade my v30

Cant wait for the script
Can't wait for these guides, thank you to all involved!
If I may make a request, perhaps a guide on how to hide root, using Magisk, so that banking apps can still be used?
Thanks again

That's a pretty generic guide; just use magisk hide and the props config module, but lots of modules may break safety net

I see thanks. If a module breaks safety net, does uninstalling that module mean the device passes safety net again? Or is the device just permanently marked as unsafe?

You might have to wipe data for all the Google apps (or possibly even factory reset), but it shouldn't be permanent

Not to sound like a jerk, but I do think it's a valid question... what is the point of creating a thread promising a comprehensive 'All in one guide' to be 'released shortly', and also posting in the other root thread that a guide will be available, and then nearly a month later, there is still no guide? Again, I don't want to sound like a jerk because you're trying to help, but so far, you have just made empty promises and gotten peoples hopes up but not actually provided anything
(again, not trying to sound harsh, just posting as someone who has been keeping an eye on this for a month and now feeling frustrated)
Sorry, dont have time for this, anyone can make a new thread or admin delete this...
Until then, all is available on telegram.

Samsung A715F telcel mexico (Android 10)
Can we root it , unlock it. Etc? Thanks in advance
Sent from my [device_name] using XDA-Developers Legacy app
Hi everyone hope you're doing excellent I bought a note 10 plus on november last year suddenly I stopped receiving OTA updates this have at&t logos but its unlocked already I work at an airline and I'm not using at&t sim card since I bought the phone and even with my country's sim card I received ota updates.
I was wondering if its possible to flash it to android 10 currently the phone is running android 9 but when I connect it to the pc smart switch says phone is up to date, same happens when I verify software updates from the phone.
Baseband version: N975USQU1ASGO
My questions are:
- Can I flash the phone using any of the android 10 firmwares in the forum? or do I have to make sure it will be compatible with some specific versions?
- If I flash the phone it will it still be unlocked?
thank you.
Don't know.
I would leave it on Pie; stable, fast and well behaved.
Scope storage and the trouble it may cause hasn't been dragged out into the sunlight yet... plus the older apks it probably will break that have no replacement.
If you do load Q let us know what you think.

From the lines above we know it's not locked but caution because it isn't rooted neither.

Possible, yes ... if it's desirable only you can determine after acknowledging de pros and cons of the upgrade. As @blackhawk pointed out, there are some caveats to be considered. Nevertheless please be advised that this is your decision and none here can be responsible for mistakes or misfortunes that may occur. It's all on you.

If these are real issues, I would suggest tackling them with the upgrade and if not solved, even downgrade back.

Your baseband version if circa 2019-08-18 so ... pretty ancient for any device freak terms (like last century)

The above question has more than an answer:
a) The firmwares available in the forum are for rooted devices so the answer is NO. None firmware available here is fitted for you present setup (the "but" comes later)
b) Yep ... you have to keep compatibility of your hardware with the firmware you flash. Your devide is a N975U so you shall restrict only for the respective family.
And now comes the "but" ...
The firmwares in the below list shall fit your hardware. They are official Samsung releases for the hardware you've mentioned.
https://www.sammobile.com/samsung/galaxy-note-10-plus/firmware/SM-N975U/USC/
The above list was filtered only with USA (No carrier) options because, as you've said, it's unlocked.
The complete list is @ https://www.sammobile.com/samsung/galaxy-note-10-plus/firmware/#SM-N975U and it contains the carrier locked ones too.
You will have to search and read about "flashing with odin". To speed up the download use Samfirm after reading some howtos about it too ... https://samfirmtool.com/
