Back cover and LCD replacement - HTC 10 Guides, News, & Discussion

hello xda members, I would like to share with you what my phone looks like after I repaired it.. I had a grey HTC 10 with a black LCD that got damaged a while ago, back cover was dented and speaker was cooked. so I decided to take the time to repair it. I bought a white screen for $120 AUD and a red back cover for $50 and the speaker for $25 I wouldn't say I like it that much myself but definitely stands out from the crowd. the htc 10 all up has 12 screws. as most of you may already know, when you replace the back housing, you also have to move the speaker to your new housing, the main speaker has a ribbon cable that can be damaged easily so if you think of doing something similar be very careful, the htc 10 is an overall complete mess inside. do not mess around get in and out... and please do not try this kind of thing if you are not experienced.. unless you want to break your mid range device I suggest doing research. :good:

think the red back + black front would have looked better, but can't deny red/white certainly does stand out
Good job, man.

Mid range device????? Are you serious???? Why did I even open this post????

I already ordered a silver housing and I will transform mine to black silver.

Hi, does your fingerprint sensor still work after changing screen?
Because read from ifixit that it would not work unless have genuine screen. So i'm wondering if it is true.

It's not original but it's really close to original.
Here photo with side by to original. The yellow in lenses is just tape used for protection.

And the lcd should include gorilla glass, atleast on etradesupply.

Had a vibrator problem since day one, back in december. But didn't think it was enough of an excuse to have it repaired. Now that the back of my black htc 10 is quite scuffed and dented, I bought one too, 60€, impossible to find cheaper. French website says its original, i really hope it is.

I saw on a teardown video that there's a lot of adhesive holding the screen into place. I was thinking about exchanging the housing only but I'm worried that I can't get the original screen back into place because of lack of adhesive after I take it out to remove the screen.
Does anyone that has done this could let me know how it went?

I got a the housing and the LCD adhesive from witrigs. It's doable but it needs some patience while removing the screen. After that it's a piece of cake.
The adhesive you will get from witrigs is a custom made to fit the HTC 10 so if you place it correctly you are good to go.

Hi mate, are you sure it's not original? I bought the exact same one, and it's perfect on the outside, like zero flaw (see my attached picture in previous post). I think the inside differs a bit because the red model got into production months later than the initial there colors options.
Anyway i would like to ask you guys, since i just got it back from the shop with replaced battery and vibration motor + the red back cover installed : did any of you experienced loss of wifi range?
My phone wifi is close to dead (have to be 3meters from the router Max otherwise can't reach the signal).
Its it because of the cover itself or because some foil or copper is not in contact with the phones back anymore? Gonna get into it myself this time as the shop was crazy expensive and still they dared tell me I've been charged way less than usual. And since opened once already, easier to get in again.
Thank you guys in advance, any insight is welcome since i kind of can't use wifi properly anymore

Lol replaced both the screen and the body for $50 USD when I was in China.

Crack in sgs2 benzel !!

Guys
I observed that there is a crack in the benzel of my sgs2. Benzel i mean The plastic lining that wraps around the front glass.
The crack is near the volume buttons.
How easy it is to replace this plastic strip ? Is it risky ?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
Pretty sure you mean bezel, not benzel.
You would probably have to replace the entire housing which is quite risky to do in my opinion. If you don't know what you are doing you could short the board or break something.
Happened to me too.
Is it really so bad that you need to replace it?
Happend to me too. Seems like that part is very fragile.
I think the only way you can replace it is replacing the whole screen and touch panel.
After that one little crack and that mysterious burn mark right next to it (damn alcohol ) i finally decided to buy a case

Its not so bad. But there is an another minor crack on the exactly other side of the benzel where power button is present !
Is it because of overheat ? I use my phone while charging and battery temps are at 46 celcius when I do that.
I never dropped my phone.
If I go for a new benzel then will I have to pay for new screen too ? Is the benzel glued to the screen ?

Buying a case is not an option for me. I nvr dropped my phone. I use it very carefully , I love my sgs2.
Why would I have to replace screen also ?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
You can probably have it replaced at an official Samsung repair center. I'm pretty sure they carry one or two sets -- or can order one for you -- but it'll probably set you back a little.

I am not sure about this. But looking at the screen replacement tutorial (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1253969) it seems like screen+touchpanel+bezel is a single part. I guess it is somehow glued together. But again, that is just a guess.
just put a little glue in the crack
went to samsung service center.
They said they will replace the Glass panel, Pled screen and benzel.
Oh what the hell, I'll get a new Oled screen. Will go for SGS4 directly

I guess it is not covered by warranty, is it? How much do they charge you for replacing it?

yeah I noticed a crack on my bezel above the volume button. You can kind of see it on the enclosed picture.
I've got a crack in almost exactly the same place as the above pic, slightly closer to the top of the volume button.
Mine has been in an official flip case since day one and has never been dropped. I only noticed the crack when I looked after reading this thread (just like the plastic cover over the home button thread!).
I wouldn't have noticed the crack because of the case. So, is this a design fault? Is it heat or flex that is causing the crack?
The benzel is the most fragile part I think.
I must be because of heat. As the processor, gpu and antenna are near camera module. The top portion gets a lot hotter when accessing 3G.
On top of that if any pressure you put on it going to worsen it. Putting it in a tight jeans and then when u try to remove it out of pocket, u tend to grab the benzel a lot.
All in all, I would go for a metal/polycorbonate benzel in my next phone. That disqualifies SGS3.
Obviously I dont want to pay a hell lot of amount just to get a thin plastic strip (benzel) to be replaced.
Just because samsung did stupid move to glue them together and chose a cheap plastic for benzel I now have to pay a lot.
Waiting for HTC One XL(unibody) with S4 chipset. At least it would come for 3 yrs rather than breaking within 11 Months.
End of rant. Sh**ty cheap plastic Samsung.

same issue for me
i discovered that few weeks after buying the device
i kept the device with that crack but i worried about it
"happy" to see that i'm not the only one
Incredible! Saw this thread and wondered what the hell a 'benzel' was. After reading that it had happened to more people, I just checked my phone and it has the same crack.
Had never noticed this until now. Fortunately mine is a black phone, so not as noticeable as the white.
check my post open in may

Replacement back cover

Hi Guys,
From youtube videos (I know great source of info) it seems that removing back cover on HOX is quite easy.
So two questions come to mind first one no one makes entire back cover replacements in many colours?
Also anyone know where I could get the least original white back cover?
I want to sell my HOX and camera lens is scratched. Does not interfer with pictures due to location of it but still.
Cheers,
Luka
I found a lot of them when looking for a black and white one.

it's not that simple!!
at first you will void your warranty as soon as you detach the cover...then believe me that it's very difficult and you could damage the inner frame or other components, since there's a lot of glue that make you feel the phone very solid in your hands...
but believe me that it's a real pain to change the cover...the most difficult part of opening your phone...
however you should do it just if it's stricly necessary imho...
Nah it's really easy. Takes 10 mins to switch over. There is no glue really. For the most part it is clipped on.
I say go for it. I got my white original cover off ebay for £30.
my camera lens also got little scratched. Is there any chance to replace it only? anyone with the same problem?

Maybe we have different version of One X...
I repaired my touchscreen and my htc was full of glue and sticker anywhere...it was the hardest part for me to detach the cover!
However could you tell me where to buy a black one low cost and new?

squeak
My One X has a creaking corner, where the original back cover seems to give in a little. Any guesses if getting a replacement (because the camera lens also has a few scratches) would help? Maybe the fit would be better... or is the creaking problem something related to how the phone itself sits inside the cover, and getting a new back would be pointless?
Has someone experiences with cases from Hong Kong?
They are cheaper and include the SIM Tray...

After putting the whole thing back together, doesn't the phone start creaking, especially at the bottom part?

Opened mine 2 times and the bottom fits better than when it came out of the box.
Only opened it to clean the camera lens from inside and always used the same cover it came with.

Spare part Displays without anti shatter film (ASF)?

Hello,
a few weeks ago, I received a spare part as my display cracked and I wanted to exchange it myself. I ordered it in the UK via eBay.
As the display arrived, everything was okay - it looks the same as the original one, it is just as bright and brilliant.
But one thing confuses me. The anti shatter film that is usually part of the display unit is not there.
The dealer told me that there are no ASFs on the displays.
So far, there is no scratch on the screen and everything else is still okay. Except this detail.
Can anyone confirm this or is the display a fake one?
Thanks in advance!

What should the picture show? The display is now glued to my device and the difference is not really visible.
Usually, you can use your fingernail and feel the ASF at the edges of the glass as the film does not cover the glass completely (maybe half a millimeter is uncovered). This is not possible on my device as there is no ASF.
Do you have a Sony logo on the new display? On my phone this logo was on the ASF, not on the display itself.

Yes, the logo is on the display. On my old display it was on the ASF, too.
I thought I could remove the ASF again to get that clean look, but no.
That's sounds good... Because the Sony logo is printed in the glass... Could you post the link of the spare part?

It seems to me that most of the displays sold on eBay are fake ones as mine. Yesterday, I got another one from another seller in Germany. Same thing. You are right, it is a good idea to print the Sony logo directly on the glass.
After a few weeks with the fake display, I cannot recommend it for the following reasons:
When the display gets dirty or wet, you get crazy input immediately. I have to switch off and clean the display when my device starts to do stuff without me. Absolutely annoying.
Another detail that I noticed during my vacation is that the fake display is not usable in landscape mode when you use polarized sunglasses. The original display has no problem here.
The Sony logo is also printed a bit thicker than on the original.
Well, I got no answer from the German seller so far for my accusation that the display is fake.
And as nobody answered that he got a display without an ASF, I assume that only fake displays do not have it.

Oneplus X Glass Repair

I recently bought a cracked oneplus x in hopes of fixing and using it. So I went ahead, heated it up and took the glass off. This went fine. I set the heat around 90-100° C and the glass came off just like it would from any other phone. The display is only glued on on the sides/bezels unlike Samsung phones in which the whole panel is glued down. This obviously made things easier. To my surprise the loca came off pretty easily with some rubbing alcohol. Before removing the glass you have to take off the soft keys, which are glued to the glass. These are connected to the back of the screen assembly by a connector which you can see in the pictures. It was when I went to buy the part I realized I had made a mistake: I couldn't find any. So I am stuck with this for now, and if anyone knows where I could buy the glass please give me a link. Regardless, I hope this is informational and helpful to anyone who might want to attmept this in the future.

I was hoping to do a glass only repair with loca uv glue since the glass alone is substantially cheaper. Thanks, however, I atleast have that as a backup, since it is at a pretty reasonable price for an amoled panel, if it takes too long for the glass to be available.

Please any one suggest me how to replace only the front glass of one plus x
This is above and beyond being that the part for glass+LCD is like $30 on ebay.. Like you're risking the fact that the adhesive is like a little worse and a sunny day could easily destroy everything. If you're going to repair this phone, do the glass and LCD together.
Thanks for your reply...

Also are there any ribbon cables which I need to be careful about while doing the process?

Sourcing replacement parts (usb board)

I've done two screen repairs on this one HTC 10 for a customer. I have no idea what they're doing to it that makes it a third screen break, but since it's a work phone for them, and they can't let their job know they broke it (let alone once, but 3 times) it's back in our shop.
First two went without incident, screen/digi sourced from HK. This time however, that adhesive was a little too agressive and it tore the light/touch panel from the back button next to the home.
I've searched everywhere I can think of to find a replacement usb board/flex assembly and I'm coming up completely empty on all fronts, even ebay and amazon AND alibaba as a last resort.
Has anyone performed a charging port repair on an htc 10 and successfully found the part? I checked every link from all the previous similar posts on here and not one of them has the usb board. They've got every flex assembly except for that one. Is there something I'm not aware of as far as usb board being paired to the motherboard like an iphone's fingerprint sensor and that's why they're not sold?
TIA

USB port is separate and and not a part of the motherboard so it should be somewhere available. I am also looking for it.
Did the LCDs came with adhesive or did you use you own?

That's exactly the part I'm looking for, problem is, no one has it anywhere.
I had to replace the lobster claw on the motherboard itself because some pins were torn on it, then I saw that the cable going to the USB board (which is soldered onto the board, and proprietary, of course)
had a few contacts curled back or broken, so I'll have to replace the whole usb board. Not only that, the back and menu buttons are part of that board as well, and those were the pins affected on the cable, so in this case, it's not an optional part that we can just leave broken.
For the LCDs, we use a .5mm thick tar tape in various widths on the phones we repair, a solid border of that stuff and a little heat to set it and it's literally good as new.
The only catch is that the frame should be razor-scraped to scuff up and remove any existing adhesive or the bond won't be as strong. Using any chemicals is a bad idea, except maybe isopropyl, because there's always a residue left behind. Isopropyl doesn't do a good job of removing most adhesives anyway.

I didn't think of aliexpress, I forgot that was the offshoot, but what search terms did you use to get a link (the link you posted takes me to an "expired" page)
I tried all the terms I could think.

I found the item, but oddly enough all these links come up with expired, so I just looked at the URL and searched for m10h (I don't even know what model that is), but I did find it.
So .... :victory:
On the downside, 19 -32 days shipping... with the possibility that it might run afoul of Chinese new year.
Oh well, better than the alternatives.
Thanks everyone!
where did you find it? i am struggling to find the part too.
Thanks
