So took a break from official ROM and went on to Lineage os for sometime which didn't end so well so I went back from that by using: https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-z-play/development/firmwares-stock-nougat-moto-z-play-t3599838 thread.
Now when I download the update for 7.1.1 phone restarts tries to flash the update but ends up with error and phone restarts stating that the update was unsuccessful.
It happend with me too, I was also try to sideload the 7.1.1 update but it was also failed.

There is a process to backup your EFS which I would recommend first. Let me do some digging and give you the steps.
Here you are:
Make sure you have the right modem for your ROM to flash. What are you on currently?
Then boot into TWRP (not sure if it can be the Chinese one or not) recovery and connect your pc via adb. (in fastboot, type fastboot boot recovery.img < TWRP recovery). Then type the following commands, one line after the other or it could get stuck! (this creates a backup of all the partitions we are going to change to your internal sdcard, just in case):
adb shell
dd if=/dev/block/platform/soc/7824900.sdhci/by-name/modem of=/sdcard/NON-HLOS.bin
dd if=/dev/block/platform/soc/7824900.sdhci/by-name/modemst1 of=/sdcard/modemst1.img
dd if=/dev/block/platform/soc/7824900.sdhci/by-name/modemst2 of=/sdcard/modemst2.img
dd if=/dev/block/platform/soc/7824900.sdhci/by-name/fsg of=/sdcard/fsg.mbn
dd if=/dev/block/platform/soc/7824900.sdhci/by-name/dsp of=/sdcard/adspso.bin
After you are done, reboot into the bootloader and boot into the recovery which is attached below:
fastboot boot recovery-TWRP-3.0.2-20161010-MOTO_Z_PLAY-CN-wzsx150.img (if that doesn't work, just rename the file to recovery.img)
After you changed the language from chinese to english, you can backup your EFS with the recovery.
I then flashed.
fastboot flash modem NON-HLOS.bin
fastboot flash fsg fsg.mbn
fastboot erase modemst1
fastboot erase modemst2
fastboot flash dsp adspso.bin
Key is to stay away from these commands.
fastboot flash partition gpt.bin
fastboot flash bootloader bootloader.img
Thanks

Just flash those files in the sequence he said with those commands..
fastboot flash modem NON-HLOS.bin
fastboot flash fsg fsg.mbn
fastboot erase modemst1
fastboot erase modemst2
fastboot flash dsp adspso.bin
You will find NON-HLOS.bin, fsg.mbn, adspso.bin along with the systemchunk files you downloaded from the post i mentioned in first comment. just flash those and using that command list and download the update and you will not get any error.

Isn't that your EFS Backup? Not sure you should be sharing that as it contains your IMEI if I'm not mistaken?
Just flash the original OOS 3.2.4 or if it was already installed, you should be automatically on latest firmware. AFAIK CM zips do not include firmware files.

I am using the stock XT1681-XT1683_POTTER_BRASIL_latam_MEXICO (NPNS25.137-15) and following all the commands and in the end returns the message (still requires signed boot.img) will it be due to my device being Brazilian?

Hello XDA,
Long time lurker, first time poster. I decided I needed to root so I can get back some features I lost with the nougat update (wifi hotspot, adaway). Due to not needing my hotspot for a while, I didn't end up trying to root until the OTA 7.1.1 was installed. Here's what I did and where I'm at;
-Followed a XDA guide to root with english twrp (alberto21 was it)?) and SuperSU. Failed.
-followed guide to use chinese twrp. Installed but stuck on boot screen
-kept chinese twrp, flashed to latest supersu, booted but mobile data won't come back on. Regular service works so wifi is okay as workaround for now
found guide saying 7.0 needs a fixed kernel. Before I tried that found another guide that says it won't work with 7.1.1 and to use magisk latest instead
-tried to flash magisk, failed error installing zip file
-supersu fails at extracting ramdisk, which I guess will happen since magisk is failing
-put the alberto21 recovery back on and tried it just for the hell of it
There are so many guides. I feel that if I found the right one and used it the first time, then it would have worked. Thinking that chinese supersu install from recovery goofed up magisk working. Also, every time I go into recovery, it says it was unable to mount storage before I even try to do anything, but it didn't stop the chinese supersu files from writing.
So at this point my phone boots and works except mobile data no longer comes on. I can use wifi to get around it for now. No root obviously. Would like to get root and hope mobile data fixes itself in the meantime. Any suggestions on how to proceed? I didn't find much more doing forum searches but I'll keep searching.
I was going to upload a log file but I'm not given the option to. Maybe cause I just joined?
Check your settings and see if you have your IEMI. Lets hope you have that. The kernal can cause the loss of mobile data, but right now there is no 7.1.1 to flash so you cannot flash a new ROM. Did you make a backup in TWRP?
It is the boot.img you need. Download the latest 7.1.1 ota and see if there is a boot.img. If so, I would try flashing it thru the bootloader and see if that gets you back. Before you do anything be sure to backup just in case.
---------- Post added at 07:50 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:48 PM ----------
Also maybe see if there is a recovery too. If so, flash that over the TWRP and then flash back the non Chinese TWRP
---------- Post added at 07:56 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:50 PM ----------
I checked the 7.1.1 ota and do not see any boot.img. I suggest trying the 7.0 boot.img. Backup first in TWRP.
You could also flash the 7.0 but do not take an OTA. Only way to get back to 7.1.1 is to wait got a full ROM.

I don't care about having 7.1.1 (I don't think) as much as I care about getting my phone working properly. I thought I can't switch roms unless I had root first, is that right? Or when you say flash to 7.0 do you mean something else? I'm way down to stay at 7.0 for a while if it means having a fully functional phone with root.
I used to be pretty tech savvy with PCs back in the day but I'm just getting into the tinkering scene and didn't understand (nor still do) about proper backups. I'm reaching out to anyone who doesn't mind doing a little teaching to help me fix my phone. The mobile data is still not connected, and mobile network state says disconnected under network info screen. Also wasn't able to get root either. Can't sell the phone if mobile data won't work and don't need to sell it if I get root and my data back.
I promise I won't waste your time. I really need to figure this out and learn the safe way to tinker. I won't beg but I will buy the first couple of rounds

No root is not needed. Your bootloader must be unlocked though. I assume if you have TRWP you unlocked the bootloader right? I don't think you can flash anything without unlocking.

If your referring to the IMEI number then yeah I got it. I flashed to english twrp as soon as I read that. I didn't do a backup because I was following a guide that didn't mention it and I failed to tap on the big blue BACKUP button all by myself, but I have one now in case I make it worse.
I have 7.1.1 right now. Wouldn't attempting to flash the 7.0 boot image set me up for a permanent brick?
After this. Be sure not to accept an OTA. We need to wait for a full 7.1.1 ROM before we can do that again.

Awesome, I thought I needed root to do that stuff. I have my bootloader unlocked and the annoying untrusted device boot screen and everything
Soon as I get a chance I'll get on this.
edit: so if I understand this right, I download Blur_Version.24.231.19 (the first 7.0 download in the guide), unzip the contents to my phones sdcard, and use the fastboot command line to execute the commands that you listed?

You will brick if you accept OTA or flash bootloader.img or gpt.bin which is why they say don't do it.
No, you want to connect your phone thru fastboot and have these files extracted to your computer and run those commands from command prompt.

If you do not know how to do that. You need to get the windows ADB drivers. I can get you a guide if you need it.
It worked!
Took me a couple of weeks to get around to it. I picked up a used OnePlus 2 for cheap and have been loving AdAway and being able to freely tether my phone without it telling me to contact my carrier with credit card in hand. I absolutely hate the battery life though. Soon as I see a nice guide to get root on this phone I'm going to try again much more carefully next time.
A whatsapp group for moto support for e4 plus just sent me this.... Anyone else receive?
Moto e4 plus xt1773 Brazil don't receive this update. Actually, my is on NMA26.42.69
I'm in Italy and haven't received the update either. Mine is the XT1771. So maybe only the version in India is receiving this update..... If so that sucks.... Anyone sale receive an update? If so what country?

revert to stock boot images and recovery image first.
use this fastboot command:
fastboot erase boot
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot erase recovery
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
do check for updates after reverting to stock images.

could you share to us when you find, ok?
Got update in Indian Model too , thanks for info.
It's just the July security update and some minor bug fixes as they say. Nothing special.
Hope someone can make a flashable zip for us to update.

How long did you wait when it rebooted? It could take up to 20 minutes before it goes to the homescreen.
Someone host this update w/download link???
That'd be great
1. App unlock bootloader: https://dlcdnets.asus.com/pub/ASUS/...SIGNED_UnlockTool_9.1.0.10_190702_fulldpi.apk
2.Rom: https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=1HxSqpE83FW1U_k8WxCfaTkMUEAbS2QH-
In folder, file boot.img patched to root, no bootloop and wifi working.
3. Minimal ADB: https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=746010030569952951
Step:
S1. Unlock bootloader by app unlock
S2.
a. Install Minimal ADB, copy 21 file .img to C:\Program Files (x86)\Minimal ADB and Fastboot
b. Flash 21 file img in fastboot mode (power + volumeup) using usb type C side of ROG Phone):
Run cmd-here.exe, command:
fastboot flash ***.img (*** same with name 21 file img, do not rename file)
EX: fastboot flash system system.im
fastboot flash vendor vendor.img
Boot in to recovery mode and wipe data/factory reset then reboot system!
Done.
Sorry for my poor English
Mod edit: Deleted!
Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat - if this is real, awesome job.
Damnnn good..but i'm afraid to try it

After this ww rom will be installed? What about upgrade?
I mean can i do future update once in convert to ww rom ?
A Video would be nice (not doubting that this simple guide doesn't work) but to proof that indeed this method works) someone please be kind to post a video.
also, does flashing this WW ROM deletes all personal data? or does it flash like an update retaining data?
wow!!
is it works??
and is it without root??
Will OTA updates work on this? Also, could you rewrite the guide some parts are a bit confusing
It works. No OTA from now on though, without a patched boot.img the phone will always go into a bootloop. Some people have reported dead camera after WWE conversion.

Is there more infomation about this? forum link or screenshot?
Thanks.

In my tele, 2 member rp dead camera, they reflash rom CN then reflash WW, evething ok expect setting theme not working
Can someone state the major differences between the two roms?. I don't see the point of losing OTA and warranty unless you need the stock UI, other than that i don't see any advantages. By the way can someone confirm the call recording option is still there with the WW Rom.

Yes Please, I Would also like to know the major differences..
Just to evaluate whether losing OTA is worth going to WW Rom.
Hello Guys, I messed up as I did not unlock bootloader first before flashing it from fastboot. Now I have a bootloop. Can anyone help me how to reflash CN. I have a lock bootloader. Thank you very much.
Unlocking BL also voids the Widevine L1 DRM btw, proceed at your own risk.
Can anyone help me how to unlock the bootloader via fastboot since I cannot get in the software as I have a bootloop. I greatly appreciate it as I have been figuring out this for the past 5 hours. Thank you.

You cannot unlock without the app. Hold the power and volume up key when the phone boots up until you enter the bootloader menu then using the volume keys navigate to recovery option from there just do a factory reset.
Hello Rashad83, I went to recovery and did a factory reset, but it still bootloop. I have a tencent ROG phone II model.

What did you do to get the bootloop in the first place, if you don't mind me asking?
I tried fastboot flash vendor vendor.img then it says parse error due to lock state, then after that I rebooted it then it just bootloop.

just flash newer version ww firmware. Data will keep. a little bit inconvenience that no OTA. but you will always have root (use magisk manager patch the boot.img).
