hi folks,
i have a htc m8 dual sim, and was wondering if i can flash a custom rom for the htc m8 standard model? i will lose the 2nd sim functionality, or brik the device?
thanks!!!
It won't work, the hardware is different, therefore different ROMs. Not certain if brick is a consequence (of flashing wrong ROM). But it's possible.
S. ROM supports both "regular" M8, and the dual SIM. But the ROM thread specifically states this. And this is the only ROM I know of, that supports both variants. Otherwise, you need to tread carefully, and only flash ROMs specifically for dual SIM.
Further, the dual SIM is different from the M8s variant (which is the forum section you posted in). So don't let that confuse you, either.
thanks for clarifying that. i supposed it, but wanted to be sure.
and sorry for posting in the wrong section!

Im looking to flash a custom rom to a Sprint HTC Touch Pro 2 for the sole intention of getting rid of my work phone (AT&T Blackberry). What is the best ROM (and easiest to switch between radios) to do something like this?
Thanks for any tips!

So far as I know you cannot flash a GSM ROM to a CDMA phone. It will not work.

The CDMA touch pro 2 is also a "world phone" so it has a built in GSM radio. The key is unlocking it for domestic GSM carriers. There are some unlockers to do this, but I am assuming there are various different radios and ROMs you can use that may make this work better or be easier to use.

I am aware of the "world phone" capabilities, and I stand by my statement. You will brick your CDMA phone if you flash a GSM ROM. You need to flash a CDMA ROM.
I believe that it is possible to "un-brick" back to CDMA, although so far as I know no one has "un-bricked" a GSM phone that was accidentally flashed with CDMA.
for better results... aka answers.
i suggest asking this question here --> linky.
because primarily your phone is CDMA,
therefore a CDMA ROM would be needed/required.
i also suggest a read of this --> linky.
it is very informative.
and should help a lot with answering your questions.
hope that helps.

As a CDMA/GSM phone we have the capability to use a GSM sim card, but we can only use tools that were specifically built for CDMA, including ROMs/radios. Flashing a GSM rom/radio will seriously hurt your phone, possibly rendering it unusable.
To unlock for a GSM carrier in the continental US, you will first need to SIM unlock, either through calling your carrier and requesting a SIM unlock or using the olinex SIM unlocker found in the CDMA forums: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=517
There are a couple guides to getting the tp2 working on various carriers.
Wellllll... Where are the guides
Please some help,
I have read and reand and dont find the answer.

I'm in Turkey, I've bought the phone from outside of the country and i can't use some features like wifi hotspot because of the devise is unlocked version. in other words, i want to get rid of Sprint M8 rom.
Is there any way to do this? ıf its possible, how?

Your best bet is probably to unlock the bootloader, and load a custom ROM (that specifically supports the Sprint variant), rather than a "stock" M8 ROM.
Reason being, the Sprint version is a CDMA (includes both GSM and CDMA radios) and actually different hardware from the other "GSM" phones (that you are calling "stock"). Trying to "convert" your Sprint version (installing "international" firmware, radios, etc.) is a very bad idea, as it probably won't work, and might even brick the phone.
Quite frankly, you probably bought the wrong variant for your country/region. Just about any version except Sprint/Verizon would have been better, and could be converted to be the "international" version.
oh got it. i think the custom rom is my only chance. thank you for your interest...
Hello
It might sound a bit dumb, but let me explain - I've got an unlocked HTC One M8 from e-Bay. I use it as a GSM device on an international network, and originally it is from T-Mobile (according to IMEI and stock ROM).
I want to install custom ROMs on the device, which should I get?
ROMs for the T-Mobile variant (although I am unlocked)? or ROMs from the international version of the device?
Thank you very much.
You can install the generic roms. From "HTC one m8 android development" forum.
I have the same variant of m8.
Can you tell me if you're able to use LTE on your device because I cannot.
{I live in India)
Sent from my HTC One_M8 using XDA Free mobile app
Thank you for your reply.
Gladly, I can use 4G lte as my carrier supports it. The device works perfectly.
However, the battery life with the t mobile stock Rom is just poor, this is why I am looking for a swap. If you guys have a good Rom in mind, please share
What hboot, radio version, and OS number on the bootloader screen?
If you know how, also do a fastboot getvar all. Delete your IMEI and serial number before posting the getvar output, as these are private info.
Morning, everyone.
I'm in Japan and just got the X2 H4233 variant. Seems like AOSP isn't supported for this variant (I looked all over Akihabara for an American or international phone, but to no avail.) anyhow, what are my options for rooting and ROMS? I'd really like plain old Android.
Thanks!
You should try the AOSP made for H3113, many people reported that also worked for other variants as H3123
Thanks! I just checked out the thread and it might not work. H4233 is a dual sim model, so I may have to wait until someone builds one for this variant or at least one with dual sim.
On the bright side, I learned that I can unlock the bootloader, so I should be able to root it. However, I'm still not even sure if I can install TWRP.
Also you can ask in the forum if someone else tried with the same variant that you have
https://forum.xda-developers.com/xa2-ultra/help/unlocking-bootloader-rooting-t3762968/page20
In this forum, you can read that the TWRP for XA2 works on the XA2 Ultra, probably will in your variant and also there are instructions how to root your phone
Seems someone recently tried it and it works. That's one step closer!
Oops. Double post.
Hi people,
I'm going to get a used Exynos S9 soon and I'm wondering if it's better to get the single sim version for custom rom support. I know that the S7 could be flashed both ways so it would be the same, does this hold for the S9?
Cheers
Teddy
I have the same question. Can someone answer? I see that in many rom threads they don't refer if the model is single or dual sim. So I guess they work in both? Thanks
I'm sure the ROMS work for both variants, it may say in the OP of the ROM you want.
