Last year I was down in Mexico, my S7E worked OK but data was super slow. This year Im heading down for 9 days and would rather buy and use a Telcel Sim card and thier net work. I was wondering if the Verizon Branded S8+ can be used down there. It says that it needs to be GSM 850 and 1900 MHz compatible and LTE II, IV and 12 band for some areas.
Could I just pop this sim and do? $60 for unlimited Data, text and free calls for 30 days is not bad IMO.
As long as the bands are the same you should have no problem

I ask this question because att just put up new 850 mhz in my town and the press release says something about faster 3g speeds so im confused. If I buy a unbranded euro tp2 then would i get 3g?

No, you will only get edge. You either have to wait for AT&T to come out with it or import the Telstra (Aussie) version of the TP2. The Telstra has the 850 mhz 3G frequency in it but not the 1900 mhz 3G frequency that AT&T uses in a few large markets. Chicago, NY, San Fran... To have absolute full coverage of AT&T's 3G network you should wait for their (AT&T's) unit otherwise the Telstra version will work on 95%+ of AT&T's 3G network. By the end of the year all of AT&T's 3G network is supposed to be converted to the 850 mhz frequency. Hopefully that is not too confusing.
One last side note, the Aussie version is very expensive $650+ to import, if you believe what people are saying the AT&T no-contract version should retail under $500 before tax and might be cheaper.
I did import the Aussie Touch HD for the same reason, US 3G and it works great but I did have to pay a high price for it. Over $800 at the time and even after six months you are hard pressed to find one under $600 for a new one shipped.
Yup some of them are available on ebay right now.

Still, I think I will get a paintball gun first lol

Okay,Thanks
I'm conflicted because of Att new data plan that forces customers to pay $30 for data. I just cant see myself paying $60 for mobile internet between my wifes iphone and my tp2 since I have wifi at work and home. I was thinking of buying ATT for retail price but in the att forums there is confusing info because some say att can see what phone you have and bill you for thier data plan even if you buy it retail. So I was thinking of buying an unlocked unbranded one or the aussie one to save me the money in the long run $720 on a 2 year contract
I have an HTC TouchPro 2 that I bought from T-Mobile here in the US. While I now have an account with T-Mobile, I was able to get this with no contractual committment. I also happen to have an AT&T Fuze with an account at AT&T. Originally, I wanted to move my cell service to T-Mobile, as I can get the same service for about $30-$40 less per month from T-Mobile than I pay AT&T. However, I have discovered that T-Mobile does not have nearly the data network speed that AT&T does. I can get 3G from T-Mobile, but not nearly as widely as I can with my AT&T phone and service. Consequently, I would like to convert the phone to AT&T. I have unlocked the phone, and upon moving the SIM card from the Fuze to the TP2 I can make AT&T calls with my AT&T number, but moving the SIM card doesn't get me connected to the AT&T data network. I finally figured out how to connect, but I can't get 3G to work.
Does anyone know how to solve this problem?
AT&T and T-Mobile use different 3G frequencies. So your T-Mobile TP2 is not compatible with AT&T 3g frequencies. The best you will get with your AT&T sim in there is EDGE.
Same problem in Oz...
Telstra uses Next-g network - 850Mhz...
Everyone else uses 3G - 900Mhz...
We have the Touchpro 2 Model 7373 (3G) and the 7381 (Next-G)...
Telstra sim in a 7373 variant means edge service but another carrier uses 3G.
Vice Versa in a 7381 model...
Bloody annoying... Should use ALL frequencies, that would be easier, especially as it say 850 - 1800 Mhz on the band page...
Oh, well....
Not exactly what I had hoped to hear. Thanks for the answer. I guess my next step should be to see if there is any hope for T-Mobile to improve their data coverage.
Hi, I'm about to purchase the Galaxy Captivate Glide right now. I just had one question, will the phone work on Simple Mobile?
Simple Mobile is part of TracFone, which pretty much uses T-Mobile's for the Simple Mobile network.
I think, if you buy an unlocked version, that will be usable on any network.
It works on these type of networks:
2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G Network HSDPA 850 / 1900 / 2100
Just called up Simple Mobile support and they confirmed that the Samsung Captivate Glide works on their network.
Note that it'll work on 2G EDGE, and on re-farmed T-Mobile 1900 MHz spectrum only.
StraightTalk may be a better option. I just got an i927R from NewEgg (Roger's version -- supposed to be unlocked) and it works great on StraightTalk, provided you get the AT&T SIM card. It will work on their HSPA+ network for "4G" (not true 4G).
Also, if you went through NewEgg as well, you may need to get an unlock code... It's apparently still locked to Rogers... It was only $9 for me (and I have a thread for a review on it) and it worked well. If you get a prompt for it, make sure you don't just "guess" something -- after three attempts, your phone cannot be unlocked anymore, apparently.
My brother has the AT&T version of StraightTalk for his Nexus phone, says it's great. I am considering going this route when the contract is up on my Glide (1 year to go from about now), but I thought about doing the T-Mobile version since they seem to have better signal at my house. That's unfortunate the Glide doesn't cover their current 3G (or fake 4G) frequency. Who knows, maybe they'll do more 1900 mhz by this time next year.

I am using an MVNO that runs ontop of T-Mobile. I am getting 4g on the Glide. This is because T-Mobile has started rolling out it's 1900MHZ network that is compatible with most radios on ATT phones. Lots of iPhones have been getting 3G on T-Mobile lately, along with both my HTC Vivid as well as my Samsung Captivate Glide.
I am in San Jose, CA.
http://airportal.de/ <---- I don't know if I'm allowed to LINK EXTERNALLY, however I'm not doing it for Advertising. This site has a map for sightings of T-Mobile's 1900MHZ network. You can add sightings as well.
Will i get the 4g feel with simple mobile on my glide ?
Hey guys! I brought my international GT-N7105 Note II LTE model from Asia and bought that unlimited cheap 30 dollar plan. I checked the towers and my area does have those refarmed 1900MHz towers from their twitter. Anyhow, first i just thought it was my house and I have drove from pasadena-los angeles - Irvine - Orange County and have yet to see ANY 3G/H/H+ signals! Always stuck on the E (2G). First I thought it was the SIM problem so I put that SIM to an iPHONE4 and guess what?! There is the T-Mobile 3G right on that upper left hand corner and speeds are decent. Anywhere from 1.5mbps-6mbps. I'm sure it can go higher but looking at that dinky screen is already enough for my eyes! Is there some specific settings I should be doing? Somehow it's NOT locking to the 3G towers from my N7105. I am planning to get Straight Talk's 45 dollar deal at Walmart and choose the ATT since it's got better coverage from what I hear. Thanks for the help in advance and Happy Holidays everybody!!!
I don't think the 7105 has 1900 band, I have 7100 and I get 3G coverage.

Thanks for the reply but according to this: http://www.smartone.com/jsp/phone/english/detail_v12.jsp?id=2553
It should have 1900MHz just like the N7100 except there's LTE which won't work. There's absolutely no excuse for it NOT to have 3G! This stinks and is frustrating!
I see that it has 1900 band but under GSM, when looking at 3G bands it has HSDPA 850 / 900 / 2100 - N7105 vs N7100 having HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100
Dont know if it makes any difference but thats why I steered away from the LTE version.
Try this go into service mode: *#197328640# Debug screen Phone Control Network Control & Band Selection. Check if you can enable or see if you have the 1900 band under WCDMA. Might have to go under Combi Bands and select the desired bands.
Just flowing up if it worked out for u or not?
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
Bumping this since the op didn't respond. I am having the same trouble and I attempted the fix you provided and found that my N7105 lacks the "combi bands"
I mistakenly purchased this phone for pre-paid here in America (should have gotten the n7100) and it seems that Straight Talk doesn't have AT&T cards anymore and I'm stuck on T-Mobile's EDGE service
I have the verizon model and use it with tmobile
So the last two weeks have been the most frustratying and nerve racking weeks ever as I have tried to get tmobile service to work well with the verizon model i have. And although I am definately still irritated, i have to say that I do get 3G and HSDPA on mine, just not anywhere near my house. This has driven me crazy and until today I assumed it was my phone and the lack of certain bands howev er after purchasing a Tmobile 4G hotspot and activating it on a new 300mb plan just to see how well it works, I have found that it was never my phone that sucked at my hopuse, its Tmobiles service that sucks!. BUT... to get the best consistant coverage with the Tmobile sim in my Verizon model I did have to experiment with the APNs quite a bit, and I also upgraded the modem to the newest one released . For anyone tryinbg to do thius with the verizon model, make sure your APN for T-Mobile US or T-Mobile Data (I personally have started using it as T-Mobile Data) has "None" typed in for the username and for APN if your using LTE device type in "fast.tmobile.com" instead of the epc.tmobile...... or whatever it is. Does anyone know if flashing a modem or radio or even just the rom from the tmobile section would help at all? Or would it just **** up the phone..
Despite not getting 3g (since I lack the appropriate physical antenna apparently) I get way better cover with T-Mobile (through Straight Talk) I have to say compared to Verizon. Maybe my Note 2 is much better than my old Thunderbolt or maybe T-Mobile is just a bit better. Nevertheless every building at my university is made of reinforced concrete so you'd be hard pressed to get any reception in the classrooms. I find in places I had no service I have service, and places I had some service I have great service now.
Back on topic though:
I can get the 1900mhz through GSM but that isn't the same and my phone lacks whatever that Combi Bands thing is. So I don't know if it is a lost cause or not. I just figured I'd bring this back up since the OP never responded and I am in the same boat as they are (were?). Maybe a solution can be found or just "it ain't gonna work."
Just following up I have returned my N7105 in favor of a N7100 and get great H+ and 3G through T-Mobile/Straight Talk.

Fwiw, net10 is basically the same as straight talk. When you buy the $15 simcard pack from bestbuy for net10, it comes with 3 different sim cards in it. One of them is a micro sim that fits in the note2 and runs on at&t's network.

please help me and thanx in advance
I have a tmobile samsung galaxy s2 which I unlocked (I called tmobile, told them I had to travel overseas so I needed unlock code, and they gave it to me, and I put an att sim card in to unlock it, and unlocked it), but what I am afraid about is the frequencies...
I really need at least 3G internet this summer on my phone, and I will be going to Volgograd, Russia for 2 months. BUT the frequencies of Russian mobile phone carriers are UMTS 900 and 2100. t989 only supports 850, 1700, 1900, 2100 umts. It does NOT support 900. So I am wondering, how does this affect the speed or the coverage of the 3G internet that I will be trying to get?
Btw, I have not rooted my phone or anything. Just unlocked. Do I need to root it? I don't want to break it, and I want to go back to tmobile when I come back, they have really good 4G internet.
