[guide] install at&t kitkat e980 stock flash + root + recovery - complete wipe !
FOR AT&T LG E980:
Basically, from my experience I put together this guide for anyone who wishes to flash a complete stock AT&T KitKat from .TOT file and the root and add recovery.
All the steps are what I have gathered from around the forums, SO I WILL GIVE CREDIT FOR STEPS THAT ARE OUTLINED BY OTHERS. These people helped by their postings.
FLASHING TOT FILES:
1. The BEST - I think a lot of us can agree - thread for the LG E980 flashing with STOCK firmware is this by HYELTON http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=44983841&postcount=1
STOP OVER THERE AND GIVE THE MAN SOME LOVE AND THANKS !!!!
.TOT files and .Kdz files for all versions can be found at Hyelton's thread above. Also, more details for flashing .TOT vs .Kdz files there. Below is some tips from my experience.
Here is the exact TOT file I used: http://www.mediafire.com/download/djjmck2eost77e3/BIN_LGE980AT-00-V20g-ATT-US-APR-28-2014+0.tot
SOME OF MY TIPS: FROM MY EXPERIENCES
2. The only hitch is getting LGFlash Tools and hacking it. I tried the links on Hyelton’s thread but some are now too new to be hackable. For example, one must find the reg key for the new version of LGTools he links to. Megalock.dll is hit-or-miss. There are other ways for sure but I did not bother further.
3. I found that lower versions of LG Flash Tool (v 1.4.1330R) works just fine.
EDIT: The latest version of LG Flash Tools is here http://www.mediafire.com/download/6g1uyoz2zsiqq1c/LG+Phone+Flash+Stuff.rar
And it contains the DLL to be used during flashing. I STRONGLY SUGGEST USING THIS. You MUST -MUST- TURN OFF INTERNET WHEN USING FLASH TOOLS. This pack contains the full software, and dll files. I have flashed using just this package >10 times at least while testing roms
a.Connect phone and let Windows install drivers. In my case, Windows 8 default were just fine.
b.Put your phone in download mode.
c.Connect it to your computer. In case of windows 8 the windows default drivers work fine.
d.Follow Hyelton’s steps.
EDIT: See posts #32and #33 in this thread. Do not go back to download. But wait for fastboot to install. See post #33 for this. Just wait patiently, the phone will reboot to full normal mode/setup screen, then the LG tools will say pass. BE VERY PATIENT.
ROOTING AND RECOVERY:
ROOTING:
THANKS TO jarari2:
1.This method here works just fine: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2699067
Simple bat file method. Turn ON USB Debugging before trying.
2.RECOVERY:
THANKS TO hoangnova AT http://lgviet.com/forum/threads/moi-thu-ve-lg-g-pro-4-4-2-root-recovery-kdz.14841/

No Problem.
To do the OTA I guess you went back to complete stock ? Yeah, that is a good option too....! Only, it requires one extra flash (going back to stock!)
Just for info, can you please add the steps to your post.
Thanks.

I went back to pure stock and no custom recovery, then did the 10p update - I found that the update to 10p would not work with other than stock recovery. I then just used the settings query for OTA update, downloaded and installed - all my programs and data were intact after the update, except apps requiring root would not run correctly. I then followed your steps to root. I still have the stock recovery at this point. KitKat runs great.

So when going back to complete stock the 10p, how did you keep apps, settings if you used odin.? Just interested in your procedure since obviously OTA on stock will retain programs and settings.
It just worked...

Honestly, I don't know. I had been flashing lots of different ROMS and then went back the total day 1 stock. I then updated OTA to 10p a couple of months ago and rooted but did not flash a custom recovery. I then heard that 4.4.2 was available, checked via the about link and downloaded. All the apps and data stayed in place. I then rooted and have yet to flash a custom recovery. I'm sorry I can't give you more detail. But I can tell you that I seem to have better battery life, and I had to pair my phone to my car again. Good luck.
i miss network connection
hi, i follow your steps, and it worked, i have KK now on my e980.
but... sometimes i lost my network connection, and it returns in a minute or two
any ideas?
With the recovery installed from this thread. Can we flash non stock custom roms or just stock roms.

Problems flashing.
Hey! I can't flash the .TOT, the Flash Tool doesn't recognize port COM41, or any other. I go to device administrator, and there's my phone as port 41, but the Flashing Tool doesn't. Any ideas?!

Also what Rom are you coming from? Is your bootloader unlocked/lokified?
Can you guys help me out? I already rooted using towelroot. Is it possible to just install the apk for recovery without doing the other steps?

I have not used towelroot ever. BUT, I do not see why you cannot add a recovery irrespective of root method. I have done this mtself.

You need to do a hard reset, reboot again into ROM and reboot again in download mode and then try to flash. Also are you using the latest 2014 flashing tool?

ok. first try with an open europe stock rom kdz less than 1 gb in size and check.. if it is success, you will be able to flash the jb or kk kdz again as per your requirements. if less than 1gb kdz also, fails, I'm not sure how to help you further..
One more last try is, uninstall all drivers... reboot your computer try the process again.. sometimes, because of the mako bootloader this error happens on some phones with korean firmwares.. I had the same issue, but I was able to successfully flash open europe v20A using the 2014 flash tool...

Hi,
I've decided to base this thread towards other Aussies/Kiwis and I want to ask if any of you have managed to successfully install TWRP or CWM on your V500 tablets?
Because I have literally tried every single thing I could find, after scouring the internet for many many hours, including having bricked completely one device, and I have not been successful in installing a custom recovery.
My colleague thinks it might be because the Australian version of the stock boot loader differs just enough that none of the methods work. (He's tried as well).
So, anyone successful? Because far out I cannot STAND the LG ROM!
Thanks
Take a look at the CWM manual installation instructions. If your aboot is unsupported, then you probably need to downgrade your firmware with lg tool 2014. I posted links to the files you need on post #36 in the CWM thread also.

Hmm, I had tried V50010B, V50020a and V50020d, but I don't think I tried V50010a. I'll give it a go and let you know how it goes.
You might not need to downgrade your firmware with lg tool if you can successfully complete all the manual installation steps on that thread.

Thanks so much dude, I got CWM on it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You gave me the motivation to try again.
Thanks to everyone involved!
So, I rolled back to V50010_A and the followed the instructions, and got CWM. I still get the secure boot error for a couple seconds which almost had me smacking my head, but then it went into CWM and I jumped around the room
Good to hear. That secure boot error message is normal when you install a custom recovery.

False information shared by @Ernesto0023.
Following this guide will get you a secure boot error when attempting to boot into recovery. Even so following this guide is impossible because root is required and OP has no root on his kdz flashed MM.
My recommended solution would be reverting back to kitkat via kdz. If unfamiliar with the method follow this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2785089
After reverting use the guide from post above: http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/orig-development/recovery-twrp-touch-recovery-2-8-2-0-t2966129
to flash TWRP.
Then fell free to flash whatever you want in TWRP. If stock lollipop ROM is you what you desire, download zip from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/development/stock-t2961073
if stock MM is what you wish for download zips from here:

Even so if his MM would somehow be rooted it was still kdz flashed so it contains

My G4 has just gone on me again, just sitting at the boot logo and a flashing blue led. This is the 2nd time in a week and the last time it was due to a corrupt build.prop, which I was able to replace from backup. This time it has just happened randomly and the original build.prop doesn't help.
So if someone can help me out urgently with a stock marshmallow rom for twrp it would be a big help.
Cheers.

Yes, it boots to twrp. Thats the reason I need the 20e zip file and not kdz. I was able to flash a 20d zip last night which then allowed me to flash the 20e kdz. But when I flashed twrp again just now, the same thing has happened again. I'm thinking now that this started happening when I updated twrp to the latest version via the twrp app, and it was only when I had another app crash and reboot my phone two nights ago that it happened for the first time. I'm going to downgrade twrp to an earlier version and see if that makes a difference.

??? you needed the zip to flash KDZ.??? that makes no sense.. then no hardware issue just a soft brick, a software issue. all you had to do was KDZ to latest version. using the refurbished option on LGUP.
then inject twrp and install twrp permanently and then root .
wich twrp are you using.? have you tried this.
the unnoficial beta5.

I was unable to boot my phone so I needed to reflash it. As I only had access to twrp, I had to flash a zip file. I couldn't find a 20e zip so I flashed the next best thing, which was a 20d file. This isn't the correct version for my phone and let me know that each time I booted it. So once I had the phone booted up, I used LGUP to flash the 20e kdz file. My reasoning for this is that I can only flash a kdz file using LGUP, and as I can't boot my phone, I can't use LGUP. So are you telling me I can flash a kdz file from twrp?
Anyway, it appears the latest twrp (twrp-3.0.2-1-h815) was causing the problem. I reverted back to the previous version and I have had no issues so far. I've taken a full nandroid backup to be on the safe side.
Thanks for the advice.

I couldn't get the phone into download mode. If I had been able to do so it would've made life a lot easier for me. Flashing the zip file and then the kdz was a long winded way to do it but I finally got the desired effect. And I was able to tell that the latest twrp looks to be problematic for the H815 (I've prepared myself for any resulting backlash).
