Gmail does not automatically sync in the background on my device. I can open Gmail and pull down to sync, but it does not happen manually (on wifi or mobile). I have a Motorola Moto E (1st gen) with almost the latest LineageOS nightly (LineageOS 14.1, 26 June 2017, Android 7.1.2). All my apps are up to date. Everything else syncs fine, but not Gmail.
Things I've tried:
Uninstalling and reinstalling Gmail
Making sure sync is turned on under Settings > Accounts > Google
Ensuring data restrictions are not in place
Installing a more heavyweight version of open-gapps - I think the micro one
But nothing works! Any ideas?

ok, i have been trying all morning to sync my phonebook to google... for some strange unknown reason it only syncs the contacts from 'C' - 'Z'!?!?
Why will it not sync the 'A' - 'C'?
I have went into the applications and cleared the contact sync data aswell but still cannot understand this.
Anyone any idea?
I had a similar problem, though I couldn't see which contacts got synced and which not. Solved by restoring phone to defaults (while rooting, formatting and installing Revolution HD).
I recently installed revolution rom 5.0 but gmail sync was working fine then all of a sudden this morning I stopped recieving emails in the gmail app, I have to actualy open the app and hit refresh to get my emails, all the settings are correctly configured and I already tried deleting cache, removing account, etc.
Any idea if this may be a gmail server issue instead?
Last week a weird problem popped up on my Nexus 5X, probably since I installed the update to 6.0.1 (but not sure).
Office 365 contacts and mail syncs fine with the Google Apps, but the calendar is not syncing. I recreated the account, did factory reset. etc. but it is still not syncing the calendar.
One weird thing I noticed is when I create a new appointment on my phone it gets synced to my calendar and shows up on other devices, but nothing else shows up on my phone.
Under Accounts & Sync, I only have one main toggle for syncing all accounts.
Previously on Samsung in 4.4 I had toggles for each account.
I would like to sync some accounts but I do not wish to sync google contacts, data etc. If I disable sync then nothing syncs (email, etc). I would like to use the play store.
I am currently deleting the google account and turning sync ON . Then when I wish to install something, I turn sync OFF, login to google, install apps, then logout etc...
I'd like to somehow install apps without having to sync other google data if that's possible. This was possible on a samsung with 4.4.
I don't know if this is an Android version issue, a ROM issue or something else. I am currently using Fulmics 6.7
I've never used the stock ROM.
bump
Anyone have any ideas?
So at first I thought it was restricted to my photos but then I realized that the phone isn't syncing across all apps unless I open the app itself (while on wifi). So for example, I have the phone set to backup my snaps only on wifi, it won't actually do the backup when I do connect to wifi unless I open up the photos app.
The same applies to google keep, contacts, firefox sync... etc... Any idea why this is happening and how to make it more automated (like seriously? I have to go into each app I want to back up for it to actually sync??)
Phone rarely goes into battery saving mode. I also went in Accounts to make sure all the apps are switched to syn and they are (firefox, which hadn't synced for days, synced just as I checked that setting- a clear example of what's is wrong).
On the other hand, google photos doesn't even show up in the sync settings of my main gmail account but does in my secondary. I wonder if that's why this is happening...
BND-L21 running EMUI 8
On settings -> accounts ->google in menu option having " Sync Data is on" just check it.
