Standby drain on this tablet is atrocious. Never seen a tablet with such drain. I have it in airplane mode (WiFi is on) and it still drains like I'm watching videos. Sucks ass for such a killer piece of hardware.

Edit: I decided to do a total reinstall via Kies. I bought it off eBay and it came factory reset, but you never can tell. Originally I set it up, had bad battery drain, did a factory reset, and no difference. This time I used Kies to install a new image and it could be running any smoother. I've had maybe a half percent battery drain after 7 hours. I'm shocked at the difference and improvement.

Is this with wifi on?

Shame on Samsung for never fixing this bug or even acknowledging it. They made a similar fiasco with the recent Tizen 3 update on the Gear S3 but are atleast trying to fix it, likely because the audience for the Gear watch is larger and more vocal than the one for the Tab S3.
I don't understand, how can the tablet drop 20% when it's in standby for 9 hours??

I had the drain issue. However, the recent update then hard factory reset somehow magically solved it. It is definitely not the best but I am quite satisfied.
Hoping Oreo would fix this wifi battery drain
My tab s3 dropped from 100 to 14% on standby. Wtf? Dos this happened on oreo too? Im on pie. Dark mode is on, power saving is on, brightness is low and yet still this happens randomly.

My Tab S3 drained the battery heavily as well on pie. So I disabled auto sync and since then the battery drain stopped.

Hi every one , i have Samsung tab S3 WiFi version in android 9 now , since 2 years , came with Oreo and suffered for every thing you can imagine , slow booting , laggy...etc not improved with pie , lastly i discovered from a thread here in XDA that the UK ROM is doing better , flashed mine with BTU ROM T820XXU3CTA1 using general csc not the home one , wiped the cash and system through recovery and now the tab is very good in every thing , much faster , better battery ...give it a try whatever your region.

hey i was a while ago waiting for the 4.1.2 update of the note 2 n7100 ... i saw a couple of days ago that people are not satisfied with the update and that it is causing problems ,, mainly the " SDS" and others complaining about freezes.
can someone tell me what is the update version that is having this problem??
also have anyone here faced this problem with the update
if your eMMc chip is vulnerable to sds, the 4.1.2 temporaly fix it,also it fix exynos abuse
The problem i have faced since the update is:
The phone will never go on deepsleep, reducing battery life.
Is highly recommended that if your phone is vulnerable to sds upg to 4.1.2
well i checked and my phone is not vulnerable ,, i saw that the update has some new features that seemed to be useful , i will consider updating ...
anyway thanks bro
There are no problems with 4.1.2, it has several small improvements. Never had reboot or freeze or anything wrong happen. The only problem is battery life which is shorter then with 4.1.1....

I don't have any "numbers" but it is so OBVIOUS, not small difference.... I.e. overnight drain was 1-2% now it is 10% at least... previously I charged my Note II until midnight, in the morning it was like 98%, I used it whole day at work and came home at 5pm with like 40-50% battery. Now I charge it at work until lunchtime (12:00) and come home and it is like 40-50% level... so NOTICABLE diference....

Taken on my 4.1.2 stock device. And that's with BT on all the time, and WIFI on when the screen is on, and just a brief 10 minutes or so on charge.
Battery life on 4.1.2 is just fine.
some devices will have normal battery life on 4.1.2, my phone got a random wakelock with 4.1.2, while my mother note 2 with 4.1.2 got normal battery life.

I was expecting to find more people talking about issues with the 4.1.2 upgrade - does appear to be a minority (that I am unfortunately in)
Since upgrading, my (sim free) Note 2 has gone from being just about perfect in operation and behaviour to suffering;
- Daily episodes of freezing (often requiring a battery out to reset)
- 2 or 3 times a day it will randomly re-boot itself
- whilst typing on keyboard often suddenly goes very laggy
- battery life has *defnintely* worsened (probabbly by around 15% or so per days use - it does deep sleep though)
- calendar view/settings reset themselves every re-boot (annoying)
All the above annoy the cr4p out of me, as I am super picky with my phones/devices and I'm pretty dissappointed with this - given the phone was SO slick pre-update. I can't stand to have a buggy phone, so unless there's an update to cater for these issues very soon (.3?) it's S4 for me.
(I would roll back to .1 in a heartbeat, but looking at how to do it, it's tantamount to a rooting processs in it's 'complexity' - you guys may be adept at such things, but to me they just look like an uneccessary ball-ache - shame there can't be a kind of 'macro/apk/idiots program' that does it all for you! But there you go, I'll have to suffer for now and see which way to jump in a few weeks I guess).
My advice? DON'T upgrade to .2 - I can't see any discernable benefit in day to day use, but I can see a LOT of irritating downside.
Very pi55ed off
Sounds like you've got something else going on than the 4.1.2 update. I have NONE of those issues at all, and battery life is just as excellent as it ever was.
i'm on 4.1.2
I've updated my mobile to 4.1.2
Baseband version : N7100XXDLK7
Build number : N7100XXDMB5
and i don't have any single problem with that update....
and the battery performance has really improved
overnight test ... without BT or WIFI but antivirus is on
tonight i will put BT and WIFI on
I loaded the 5.0 factory image last week and my battery usage has been awful since. I am 100% stock. No root or mods at all.
Yesterday I took my fully charged N7 off the charger about noon. I hardly used it. Sent 3 emails and checked football scores a few times. 10 minutes use max. 95% of the time it was sitting with the screen off. By midnight it was almost dead. I have wifi off during sleep. This morning it's been off the charger for 2 hours and is down 20%. I have not used it at all other than to check the battery. Previously it would last 2-3 days between charges with light use. Not seeing anything standing out as using excessive amount of battery. Android System uses the most at 17%

I know there was a wifi bug but I thought that was fixed prior to the release of the factory images. Strange thing is I have run all the L previews and currently a pre image release of a 5.0 AOSP rom on my N5 and I've had no issues at all.
Anyone else seeing this or have any suggestions?
I been looking for a thread like this. Coming from 4.4.4 all stock battery was great, I don't have any statistics but moving from 4.4.4 to 5.0 still stock no-root, the device gets really warm and battery drop isn't very comforting.
I hear the nexus 9 also gets very warm, must be a 5.0 bug.
5.0 with NRT Sideload update and no issue with battery nor wifi. I loose max 1% by hour in the night ! As I have a little use I can keep it during 3 days without charge !

I was on XDABBED's rooted stock-image, the battery usage was as bad as the OP's situation.
Since then, I moved to XDABBED's latest AOSP release ... the battery usage has been GREAT.
Also on stock and I can confirm that the battery is worse.
Previously on stock 4.4.4 I had calculated that 10% battery can get me through one day or one hour SOT.
After flashing factory image I can confirm that the most I can manage is 4-5 hours SOT in two days.
That's 30-40% higher battery consumption.
why don't you download an App Ops tool from google play store
and deactivate any location service.
Currently, there are not that many app ops tool that can support lollipop.
One from Lars Team works on Lollipop, so I am using that.
For me, google play service was using extensive amount of power for location search,
and after I turned down location search capability of google play service, the power drainage stopped.
Same Issue
Yes I am also facing the same problem. Terrible battery time. I charged my Tablet yesterday and pulled it out at 100% at 10pm. I put it on Airplane mode and went to sleep. When I woke up today at 6am the battery was showing 70%. It ate 30% at night doing what? I am very disappointed. On Kitkat 4.4.4 I never had such terrible battery performance. I am going to try it out today again and ensure that all apps are closed. Lets see what the performance will be like. Will update tomorrow.
I loaded Battery Batter Stats last night and left unplugged overnight so that I could check for partial wake-locks this morning. Unfortunately the battery was completely dead when I woke up. I put it on the charger when I left for work so I can check tonight.

This was a good advice I must admit [emoji4]
I installed App Ops and noticed huge Location usage from Android System. After I disabled this the battery drain is a lot smaller. Not as good ad KK but very tolerable.
Also noticed that my video player, Archos, is using more power on Lollipop that before. I use it same or less than on KK but it drains the battery a lot more and is always at the top in battery usage.

Hey man,
I have the exynos version. Still on stock, i just used "package disabler pro" - as you do - to get rid of all the bloatwares and apps i don't use.
Oh, and i don't know if that's relevant, but i disabled the fast charge, in order not to preserve the - non switchable - battery, it still charges quite fast.
I've checked three times now, i was never below 99% when i woke up.
Hope it helps.

Yet this is. I just turn the phone back (with the screen hidden) so that the "always on" doesn't turn on.
I am having massive battery drain
My phone drops 20% in 2 hours on standby and I'm at my wits end trying to figure out why android os is taking 500mb of data a day
20% Over night absolutely not normal!
Have to recharge phone twice a day.
I am on stock and cannot apply root (this is company phone).
When I had Nexus 5, battery drain was not so horrible.
Here is a picture of my battery drain

Can't understand why WiFi is draining my battery like this ?

The 6.0 update still has battery issues. Removed my watch from the charger at 6:45am...it's now 10:45am and it's down to 65%. Not acceptable life. Anyone else having these issues?
Try factory reset. Then run it down until it dies to recalibrate the battery. It worked for me. Hope this helps.
Having same issue, no apps installed besides Keep. No changes made to settings, except turned off accelerometer to turn screen on when twisting hand. Already did 2 factory resets, I do not know what to do anymore. Of course, ambient screen is off. It barely lasts 10h. Most ****tiest battery I have ever seen on any device. Maybe 6.0.1 is bugged, but I'm thinking if I should load 5.1.1 manually if it's better and lose my warranty, or just freakin' return it.

The fist couple of days, I had the same issues. .. I would get about 8 to 10 hours... it sounds kind of weird, but really no kidding give it a couple of days to optimize it self , after draining the battery to like 10 % or so, do a factory reset and wait till it completely run out of power... let the thing die completely so that the battery recalibrates... at least that's what did it for me... I get over 24 hours everything on except ambient mode... I'm on marshmallow. .. CREDITS TO ( STEVER87 ) this really worked for me... it will work for you too.

You have a great gadget in your hands... STEVER87'S advice worked for me...follow his advice and you'll see a dramatic improvement... just give the watch about 1 to 2 days to get optimized.
I think I "fixed" mine, just when I was about to return it. I changed my phone from a meizu to a xiaomi and the drain stopped, weirdly. It seems that it does matter with what device it's paired with. Now I finish the day with 50% battery.
I've had great battery life after the Marshmallow update. I take my watch off the charger around 7:00 AM and don't need to charge until around 10:00 PM the next day (approximately 40 hrs). I have about a dozen apps installed and have Ambient screen, Tilt to wake screen, Gestures and Wi-Fi off.
My watch wont drop below 12%/h . i tried probably every trick there is to find to extend the battery (Factory reset watch and/or phone, instal previous versions of android wear). For every method i've tried i Let the watch settle for a couple of days. 8 to 9 hours Max Without touching it. Is my watch faulty?
I keep a charging pad at work too give it done extra juice when needed

After update to MM I turned off gps, wifi and my watch not live more than day. It have about 5% power consumption per hour. What the problem is?
Havn't seen much change yet.
But even when the watch was om 5.1.1 it did good time. Two to four days between charging. Normal two days when using GPS for running every second day.
And so fare it behaves the same on 6.0.1.
No, it didn't. Not because it was 5.1.1's fault but it was app sync's fault.
I had only one battery drain on 6.0.1 - it was right after the very first setup. The same thing happened to me when I was setting up my watch the very first time while on 5.1.1.
On both versions, unpairing the watch, forgetting it in the app, resetting the watch and then, again, pairing it with the phone while plugged, letting it do its job during the sync process, not touching both the phone AND the watch for some time fixed the problem.
Battery life on 6.0.1 is very, very good. The watch lasts for about 3 days. Always On - ON, Gestures - ON, WiFi - ON... well, everything is on, even location.

exactly the same here, did the 6.0.1 update and battery down to 16% in less than 40 min.
Wiped everything, unpaired, did update again but now via PC companion, resetted everything again and now great battery life. 2x 20 min gps daily for bike ride and still 2 day battery life.

It drop to 10 after power ON the morning. When Power Off for the night it was at 46%
So no software issue (and never was software issue), just a deffective (deteriored) batt. I think there are faulty regulator charge circuit in SW3 and the battery overcharged. Just see how fast an SW3 can be charged, not normal charge process.
In general way, when a lithium batt drain faster after 50(40) % it mean batt is damaged.
I have normal drain from 50% to maybe 40%. Problem is after 40%.
So far I haven't suffered the random battery drain since the update.

For me is seems to be fixed. But the app Wear Battery Stats stopped working. Hm, I don't need it anymore.
