Why use only the bottom speaker for speakerphone? I have two other phones in the house... Moto X Pure and the ZTE Axon 7... both of these have dual front facing speakers and use both of them for speakerphone. The sound quality is much better than on the XZ Premium. Why not use both?
But it uses both...
Yes thats my question too. Why use only one speaker when in speaker phone.

Nop. Not even on Skype calls.
From what I heard it's some legal thing to avoid Sony being sued. Notice that the speaker that's working is the bottom one. This is to avoid a situation where you're on the call not using speaker phone and proximity sensor fails the speaker phone switches itself off. Apparently the volume from the speaker phone could damage your hearing and Sony wants to avoid the legal issues.
I understood the problem wrong, so sorry for my assumption. You are all right, only the bottom speakers works. Just tested it.
It's easy to remedy that. Add a security feature where you need to confirm when you're switching to speaker. Removes the liability from them since you are going to confirm it.
The speaker quality is very good but the volume is quite lower than at the first days. I have the phone 1, 5 months.
The speaker quality has actually improved in the Oreo update. Sound is noticeably louder.

Second this, oreo helped quite a bit on mine. easily a few DB louder
How does it compare to Xperia Z5, XZ1 and Axon 7?
Also, has headphone jack output improved as well?
In Oreo does the sound emitted by the right speaker still sound like it's coming out of a tamagotchi when compared to the left speaker?
The left speaker always sounded normal.
I believe this flaw is present in all models of the xperia lineup. I'm actually surprised not more people are complaining about this issue.

In my opinion the sound has become worse since Oreo. Right after the update I noticed a more shrill sound. Before the update it was clear, not loud but perfectly tuned.
With the update they made the speakers produce the same output level but before Oreo the top speaker was louder than the bottom one and since they sound different, the sound signature is different.

Just curious, what firmware are you on? I flashed the FR firmware and the speaker quality is fine but it is still very quiet, especially in comparison to my Z5 Premium which was significantly louder. If there is any background noise at all I can't hear anything out of the XZP, that being said most of the time I am using a bluetooth headset and the audio quality over bluetooth is very good.

You have to let the speakers calibrate, which is probably why you noticed a shrill sound. You can check if your speakers are calibrated in the service test menu.

I'm on the customized PH. Indeed the speaker volume is still lower than the Z5 (I had the Z5C in the past), but nevertheless still louder than the first release of the XZP.
Updated yesterday and I don't really notice that the speakers are any louder. I still have to use Speaker Boost from the play store to get the volume I need.

I checked this and it's calibrated. I have 2 XZ Premium, one with Nougat and the other on Oreo, and I really prefer the sound before Oreo, everything seems better (apart from volume, I didn't test that).

Same, for me both Nougat and Oreo sound is the same, not any louder.
I've noticed however the speakers are not balanced.
The upper speaker is lower than the bottom, not equal!
Hopefully soon someone will release a sound mod which not only increases speaker quality and output, but also stereo speakers when using loudspeaker for phone calls and other audio such as Skype, WhatsApp, etc.

I am also in the same boat. Low Sound and I was wondering a way to check it.
Also, i tried listening to it by placing my ears on the speakers and I am not able to hear anything from the top speakers at all. The down seem to work fine.
So can you check and let me know which speakers are affected and also what are you software version or and using any custom rom?
I am on stock, Unrooted, locked and nothing changed from me till yet.
Mine is also not loud and I hear sound form both speakers . I just tested it against my phones and........galaxy s3, galaxy s2, galaxy note 2 are louder by alot.
Make sure you guys are testing with the right things, for example with music or podcasts mine are very loud and its great but Youtube can be sporadic because not every video is made well and the sound doesnt get through. If you are watching a professional channel then they should be great but some people dont do too well with the sound on youtube. Also netflix for me is very loud and clear and overall everything is much better than my original N7

my speakers work fine and loud. But i read somewhere that due to the angle of the speakers (almost rear facing), some people have complained about weak speakers.
I have sound mod increase by 50 percent for my gs3. Wonder if it would work with the nexus 7. Prolly not as 4.3 might have different files.

On my old phone, Galaxy S5, there was a small mod that enable dual speakers and it totally made the experience better. So, can somebody figure out how to enable dual speakers on the LG G4? I know it has to be in mixer_paths.xml, but I don't know what lines to edit

Just out of curiosity what do you need it for? Audio play back or phone call? Seems like an interesting request as the ear piece probably cannot put off good loud sound without peaking.
Doing this mod is very dumb in my opinion. The earpiece speaker on the phones is put at certain cut of sound frequencies in order to focus in the voices and not so much background noises. So in order to having it be a speaker will not sound so good at all plus also the risk of blowing it will be much greater for it isnt meant for audio other than for phonecalls for it also is much smaller than the dedicated speaker for music.

I don't listen to very high volume on the G4 speaker at all, and I also use speaker optimization in V4A. I really like the the stereo effect this would probably give if the ear piece got enabled. I loved this very much on my Galaxy S5 and I can respect your opinion.

Audio playback is the main reason. This mod was very good on the Galaxy S5, you can find the mod in the threads on that device somewhere.

I'm right there with you! I had this mod on my G3 as well. Loved the surround effect. If the mixer path is edited properly (balancing the earpiece at a lower level compared to the rear speaker) no damage and great sound effect. Unfortunately as much as I have tried, the G4 mixer path xml is a nightmare to navigate, I've tried countless times to obtain this surround effect using the previous device mod as a guide, but no dice. Best I could do was gaining a respectable volume increase in call and speaker output without getting into distortion territory. Love the G4 but some of the new files are quite the pain!!!

Very true! After seeing the G4's mixer_paths.xml in my file browser, my eyes were twitching! I have no idea where to start editing so I was hoping the fabulous XDA G4 community could help, but at this point all I'm getting is: "your gonna blow out your speakers" or "this is dumb". But at the same time I can see where they're coming from, there's a chance the speaker(s) can blow or this mod may not be worth fighting for.

I had the HTC Boombass as a free promo when I got my HTC One M8. It was set up to provide bass over and above the normal HTC M8 speakers and worked quite well. That kinda falls in line with what you are saying about the earpiece, it could be used to add a little something without trying to equal the loudspeaker in range or volume but could still prove useful to the overall sound.
Had a mod like this on my Nexus 5 as well. Tweaked properly it can sound great.
there is actually a thread where a stereo mod is published, also is installable with(or without) magisk

Speakers are audible, but I don't really care for them. There's a static hiss whenever the DSP is enabled to power the speakers (they don't always remain on, guess this is to save power, but can hear it over the audio). Very weak levels, don't want to enable other tools via root because I'm not sure how sensitive these are to damage from overamplification (would rather just use headphones). Directional rotation is a gimmick because QC on audio is half baked. The Xperia XC is louder and it has smaller speakers, what gives?
SPEAKERS are just okish. NOT BAD but not good either.

Oh it sure is a joke when they don't work correctly (a few units had crackling audio which is a defect in the flat cell either not having proper contact in the device or improper seal). "Tuned by AKG" literally just means EQ -- all these devices use the same sealed flat cell-speaker and the technology hasn't changed one bit over the years. Side firing speakers are a bit of a fail IMHO. Should have been ducted to the front for proper immersion. This is not good sound design, and I can tell you as someone whom engineers a little as a hobby.
Speakers are just fine for me. Even at a low volume when streaming TV I can clearly hear the person talking. At high volume it is solid with no distortion.
Is anyone else getting an audio crackle when tapping the mic icon for voice typing? I remember this was fixed through software on my Pixel 2xl years back. It basically pops, sounds like it's clipping. VERY annoying.

Did a factory reset to see. The microphone in google own messaging app didn't seem to crackle, but through Textra it did.
No crackle for me even on max volume.
What I did notice is that the stereo speaks are imbalanced in terms of volume. The selfie camera side speaker sounds way more "muted" than the charger side speaker.

Agreed. MAYBE the volume levels are the same on both sides, but the selfie side definitely SOUNDS different. I also dislike the way notifications sound. It sounds like it's coming from the back of the phone going away from me, making it sound like it's coming from a different phone a couple feet away from me.

No crackle for me. I use the mic often and play podcasts through the speakers of the day. The speakers are good, clear and can get loud if ineed them to.
The popping/crackling sound is happening on my pixel 6 non-pro model. If sound is playing and I either type or move around to different screens this happens. Looks like I am returning it.
So far I've only noticed pixel 6 pro speakers crackling playing genshin impact, easily heard on the main menu, but so far only noticed it in that specific title. Not while playing music or other games. So I'm hoping it's software related and I don't have defective hardware.
No crackle so far, just rocken Music.

I dont get how people get so many issues with phones lol... I've never had problems with any of my phones and I've had many...
My FP works 100% of the time, it is just a bit slower than the rest, but even then, just barely. I have a S21 Ultra in front of me right now and after testing both, I can definitely say that the S21 Ultra is a bit faster, the Pixel one is actually more accurate. I would prefer to have it in the back like previous models.
Having said that, if I did have those issues you described I would return it too.
I feel like it's a software thing, honestly. Because when i first setup myh device before I downloaded all the updates, there wasn't any audtio crackle at high/max volume. After I downloaded the updates, it's there slightly.
I don't have crackling or distortion, but I'm getting a good deal of sibilance from both speakers. Here is a definition of sibilance.
Sibilance
I listen to a lot of YouTube podcasts and videos and this is driving me crazy. I wanted to see if anyone else is having this problem before I see about returning the phone. Adaptive sound and balance control makes no difference.
I have a 6 Pro and have noticed crackling from bottom speaker since purchase when turning speaker on during phone calls. For me I otherwise really like the phone. I will be doing a repair or exchange once more phones become available.
I got my replacement brand new 6 pro, and now this one has distorted and crackling sound from the earpiece speaker. When i press the middle part of the screen anywhere.
I have turned off the adaptive audio, and I can hear the balance over blutooth changing. With one headset when listening to a mono podcast, you can hear the audio balance shifting randomly around.
With another bluetooth headset (my hearing aids), the balance starts out biased to the right, but the longer you listen the more it drifts to the left. Stopping and starting the audio stream immediately corrects it.
What is going on -- I have had every OnePlus Pro model since the 6, never had any issue like this.
Anyone have anything similar and or no how to fix? It is so annoying....
