Hello there!
I am currently active on the ZTE Axon 7 side of things. I initially bought the Axon because of its speakers, its loud DAC/Amp for headphones and its sleek metal build. I succumbed to "beauty" over functionality and want to make a leap back.
My choices are the OnePlus 3 (not T! it's too expensive) and the Moto Z Play.
My main usage is around 50% Whatsapp, 30% Reddit (via Sync), 10% Youtube, 10% Spotify. I have no games installed and I use the camera occasionally for shooting a picture in Whatsapp...
Will the SD625 be enough for me empirically?
How is the sound output via 1)Speakers, 2) Headphones in comparison to phones like the Nexus 5, LG G4, Nexus 5X (those are phones I know and heard)?
How "easy" is it to unlock the Bootloader for european users?
How fast and accurate is the fingerprint sensor?
For Germans: Does the turbocharger come included in the box?
People who got the Z Play and the OP3: What is your opinion?
I tried to be as specific as possible and hope that I will be able to contribute more once I make my decision.

Hi there,
The snapdragon 625 has enough power for your use cases, actually more than enough. I haven't found an app or game it couldn't handle until now.
Speakers: Compared to my Nexus 4, far better. Very clear and loud, but I can't speak for other models you mentioned.
Bootloader: Unlocking the bootloader is fairly easy. Register on the motorola site, boot phone into fastboot and obtain the device key. Submit it and Moto sends your unlock key via e-mail. But keep in mind you will loose your warranty.
Fingerprint sensor: Unlocks really fast (less than a second). I can't compare the accuracy as it is my first device with a sensor, but until today it always unlocked
Turbocharger: I bought the retail version from amazon.de and it was included.
The OP3 probably has a larger developer base, so if you are into custom roms the OP3 might be a better choice. On the other hand, you won't find a phone with a better battery life than the Z Play. My phone visits the charger every three days ...
Have a look at this thread for more pros and cons.
Unlocks faster than it takes to swipe up on the screen it seems.
Because of battery life, I upgraded 2 times. First from Moto G 2014 to Moto X Play, then Moto Z Play.
If you ask regarding phone quality or listening to something different than music, fine. The Z Play is a wonderful device, it's fast, it stays cool when gaming, it has every sensor you could need, components are very good, everything's working together great saving battery. You can't plug the charger the wrong way because it's USB-C! I like it very much and would always recommend it.
The sound of the Moto Z Play is good. But if you search for something to play music via loud speaker, never take a device without stereo. For music the sound of Moto G 2014 which has stereo speakers is so much better.
A colleague has the Sony X Compact X and is very confident, this maybe an option. I don't like Sony, they like to restrict users, they implement a different GUI for Android, they delete some functionality RIP (raster image processing) when rooting. But if you ask about sound and refer to music, you may have a look at it.
The other devices I don't know, and I didn't hear the loudspeaker of the Sony. I don't have the comparison you want, but just wanted to tell you my experience. Hope it helps.
You may have a look at the speaker mod. Or take some external speaker, the Moto Z Play supports aptX which makes Bluetooth sound great (of course the other device has to support it too to make it work).
Thank you for the answers! I'm not that much into custom Roms, but the original software on the Axon 7 is so bad, that is was absolutely necessary.
How is the software on the Z Play? I hear that Moto usually updates pretty fast and keeps it stock.
Before the MZP I had an OP3 as a daily driver - it died after two months, the touchscreen just stopped working out of nowhere. The only thing I preferred the OP3 over the MZP is the design and, maybe, the camera.
Sound: OP3's output (3.5mm) seemed to be a little bit louder, but not better in any way. The MZP wins the speaker battle (front-facing ftw!).
Performance: Despite having half the RAM and a much less powerful SoC I feel that the MZP performs way smoother, especially multi tasking works much better (sic!).
Battery: OP3 struggled to get me over 1.5 days, MZP reachs up to 4 days and 3 on a regular basis.
Turbocharger: I'm from Switzerland, so not sure about DE, but I got the turbocharger included. Pretty sure it's the same for Germany.
Software: Had some bugs @OP3, but that may have changed in the meantime. Overall it's communty is much bigger - but I don't really care about custom ROMs when the phone comes with (nearly) stock Android as the MZP does.
Updates: In terms of pace I would give this point to the OP3 - but they had to deliver fastly to troubleshoot all the bugs, so...
Features: The MZP comes with a bunch a really cool and useful software features. Just check out the Moto Actions.
So, overall I'd definitely go with the MZP again anytime.
I went from Axon 7 to OnePlus 3 to Moto Z Play. The Axon 7 had frustrating Software, no development, very annoying capacitive buttons, and an annoying curved back (didn't sit flat on tables). The OnePlus 3 had great software and tons of development, but speakers sucked and battery life was worse (although still enough to make it through most days without charging mid day). The Z play has awesome stock software and plenty of development, good front facing speaker, insane battery life, flat back, mods (love my speaker mod and leather back), and performance is just as good as the oneplus 3 and Axon 7. Next to each other, the OnePlus 3 was noticeably faster than the Axon, but the oneplus 3 and Moto z play are identical.
I would never go back to an 800-series CPU again. Having unlimited battery life, a phone that never ever heats up no matter what, and is just as smooth as the fastest phones on the market is wonderful. The SD625 is marketed as a "mid-range CPU", but considering it's the only cpu other than the SD 820/1 on the 14nm process, it's really a flagship CPU that prioritizes efficiency over performance. Can't wait for the 10nm SD635!
Unlocking bootloader is easy for everyone (except Verizon models), fingerprint reader is faster than the Axon but a little slower than the OnePlus 3. Camera is worse than both (you didn't ask about that, but if that's very important to you, the OP3 camera is really really good). The Moto gestures and ambient display are really useful and work very well. Front speaker on the Z Play is tinny at high volume but way better than the OP3 speaker. Build quality is excellent on all 3 phones. I can't tell any difference using headphones between the OP3 and the Z Play, but neither are as good as the Axon 7 was. The stock software on the Z Play is better than the pixel or nexus. OnePlus 3 Software is better if you care about customization out of the box. If you don't care, the Z Play software is better.
Thanks so much to the last 2 replies, this made my choice a lot easier.
The camera on the mzp is about as good as the 5x but nowhere near the G4. Sound is a bit better than the 5x and G4 but nothing stunning. Hardware is way better than lg which is failure prone. Exchange services on the Moto are good and better than Google AOSP which are worthless but lg services are better than Moto's. I'm impressed with the one plus 3t. Awesome hardware if you want a VR capable phone. The mzp is the perfect workhorse. Amazing battery and never feels slow.
I currently have the oneplus3, Axon 7, and Nexus 6p.. I am thinking about downsizing to only have the z play because the sd 625 is amazing with power efficiency and is a strong enough processor for anything a phone needs to do. Gaming, Taking some pictures, 2 day battery life, plus it's water resistant (proof...?) Saw a video of a dude leaving it under water for an hour with no damage!

I went from the Axon 7 to Z Play and I'm not looking back. The best decision I ever did. Software was weird on the Axon, capacitive buttons were easy to miss and some other small things. The only thing better was the display's scratch resistance and the camera glass too.

Listening to music using headphones. OnePlus 3 is a strict no no. The sound signature of Moto z play via headphone is excellent - I was pleasantly surprised. It is deep and loud even though it doesnot have any dedicated DAC.
Battery life in z play is insane. SOT - 7 to 8 hours easy even with nougat update.
The UI is super smooth and clean.
Moto z play is perhaps the most underrated phone.
I agree completely. I also came from the axon 7. The Moto z play is gonna be a hard phone to quit!!! And I was one to switch phones every 3 months.
Oh, I forgot to tell: I made the switch and am not looking back
Love the gestures, SOT is around 5-6 hours, on my Axon I had like 2.5 days.
I feel like people with thosei nsane SOT times (10+ hours) are using it permanently and letting the screen on at just idle.
My phone only has 5hours SOT but lasts around 5-6 days because it is always in standby

So what did you get? I just got me the Moto Z Play after so much research. I gave my dad a MOTO G5 Plus for his birthday just to see how the SD625 performed and that thing convinced me it was lag free and snappy (low light camera sucks big time though on the G5). I had bad experiences with SD615/617 with previous devices I owned like the Idol 3S. It was just a lag fest and slow downs on those devices. Don't know if the 2ghz or the 14nm or the 933mhz DDR3 or a combination of all 3 that made a drastic change in performance on the SD625 over the SD615 but so far it is a completely different beast. Was about to get the OP5 but found an open box Z play for a really good price and could not pass it up. I'm coming from a Moto X Pure. I was sick and tire of the pure's battery life, and the micro lags here and there when it started to heat up. I loved the dual speakers but oh well, the single speaker on the play is loud enough and is front facing. The AMOLED is just beautiful, no WIFI AC like the pure but I don't even transfer large files over wifi to my desktop. So don't care. I haven't tested the cameras yet, and won't upgrade to nougat - I like Xposed. Will come back and drop a line or two after I use this device for a couple of weeks.
It would be downgrade

I had Axon 7 and I had OnePlus 3, and now I'm using Moto Z Play,
Only thing better in Z Play is batter and everything ends there.
Axon 7 have beautiful display, Sound from headphones and speakers are not match, performance was also superior, only thing I felt inferior was Camera but Z Play is no good IMO, I'm also Using HTC U11 so It is snappy for most part (Z Play) but I often see slow downs, and for my Z Play call speaker was a downgrade as well. what I like about Z Play is batter and Moto Display.
IMO OnePlus 3 will be better purchase than Moto Z Play.
Hello everyone,
I know this is a P2 thread but if anyone has experience with both devices, or has read about this, please give me some infos.
I already googled but there's everything. Thats why I wanted to ask the "real" user of this device.
So, I ordered myself a Redmi Note 4, the snapdragon version. I have to wait for a week maybe.
But still, I know that Redmi Note 4 is about 50€ cheaper, but, which device is better?
I think that P2 has better battery life (SoT) because of that 5100 mAh battery but, how are the other things?
I know that RN4's camera in daylight is okay, but in lowlight "terrible". How is the P2's camera?
And about the speed, which device is faster? Gaming isnt important for me. Just App opening, YouTube, Facebook, WhatsApp and such.
Is the P2's software reliable and does the phone feel "premium" in hand?
One IMPORTANT thing more, this is a dealbreaker for me.
Does P2 support LTE Band 20? For me in Germany it is a must.
If the P2 is really so much better, I would not care about those 50€. I just wanna a phone with great battery life.
Although I already ordered RN4, I could sell it and buy myself a P2 if its the 50€ worth.
Thanks!
I HAVE NOT USED ANY OF THE 2 PHONES
Anyway.....the P2 seems to do Band 20 while the Redmi Note 4 doesn't seem to (according to Gsmarena, anyway). I think the speed should be rather similar - where the P2 is better than the Note 4 seems to be in non-performance things like the battery (as you've written) or possibly the AMOLED screen which seems to be better than the Redmi Note 4's LCD (albeit IPS).
Something possibly in the P2's favour in terms of speed is the fact that Xiaomi modifies the OS a lot more from Google's Android than Lenovo nowadays does.
People don't seem very impressed with the P2's camera at all - don't know how it compares to the RN4 though.
The P2 definitely supports Band 20 as I use it on the Three UK network that uses 3 and 20 and no problems.
I had considered the Redmi Note 4 too but the lack of band 20 support and the potential poor build quality and support put me off.
The screen on the P2 is very nice and the battery life makes up for any other shortfalls. The camera is nothing special but I'm happy with it.
1. The P2 has better SoT...of course..with the huge 5100mah battery.
2. The P2 has better visibility in sunlight due to its AMOLED screen.
3. Due to #2, the battery consumption by the screen is lighter if you were to use a dark/black wallpaper. Just google AMOLED vs IPS LCD.
Alright, thanks y'all, for Infos.
Just to make it clear, I ordered a Redmi Note 4 with Band 20 support. That is why I asked about the Band 20 for P2.
But still, are you guys happy with P2 in terms of speed?
Battery is good anyways, I know that.
For camera I don't know. That's why asked if someone uses/used both of these devices.
Does the phone start to lag after some time? Does it feel (after some time) differently? I mean feel in terms of usage of buttons etc.

FYI...
Having used P2 and RN3, I found the User experience, battery optimisation, Ram optimisation, battery life, UI a lot lot better for the Lenovo P2.
Also I don't know about the camera, also I don't care about that much, but it does the job pretty well and for me it's pretty good.
The build quality seems better for P2 and the costomer support is good out here. So I'd choose P2 over a cheaper RN4.
Honest opinion? They are both on par to each other.
The hardware is identical and thus both devices equally good or bad.
In terms of software support they are both more or less equal as well as both have unofficial Lineage OS builds available, although the Note 4 one is more complete than the P2 one at the moment.
At the end of the day though it doesn't make much of a difference. I personally am still running on an Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 PRO Special Edition phone running Lineage OS 14.1 and only charge the phone twice per week.
If you however do decide to get rid of the Note 4, do get in touch with me as my wife needs a new phone anyway.
Alright, thank y'all 3.
To be honest, I used MIUI on my lg g2 and I dont have any problems with it. I found it cool tbh. After years and years of Cyanogenmod, it was cool to see something else
I mean, I think that both phones are "equally" fast. I dont care about that 0.01 second difference.
If everything goes well with the RN4, I will flash Lineage OS anyways. So the software is not a problem.
I just want that my phone makes the 8 hours of SoT, whatever I do, which I think should not be a problem for both of those devices.
Lenovo P2 may make it even more than 10 SoT, but if the difference is "just" 1 hour in SoT, thats not a dealbreaker for me.
Just a question for you two @Siva Mk and @MrColdbird
How much SoT do you get with both of your devices? Are those 8 hours SoT possible?
@MrColdbird,
can't promise I will sell the phone right away. I wanna test it out and eventually flash the Lineage OS later.
We have to wait for about 1-2 weeks for that bootloader unlock. Thats why the phone is going to stay lil bit longer in my pocket!
@chorba69 I can reach 9-10 hours of SOT on my Redmi Note 3 PRO Special Edition phone easily with Lineage OS 14.1.
In fact its more or less a given for me, which means I don't have to try hard (disable random ****) just to reach that.
So yeah... its not a question of reaching 8 hours, its more of a... do you want 12 hours (P2) or are 9-10 (RN3 PRO SE / RN4 PRO SE) good enough for you?
While I don't have a P2 or RN4 PRO SE myself (yet), I've heard from several friends that jumped ship for the RN4 PRO SE that it more or less performs identically to the RN3 PRO SE, which means my input should apply to your case just as well.
The last I got was 12 hrs sot
@MrColdbird,
10 hours of SoT should do the job for me.
I heard the same about RN3 and RN4. Just, afaik RN4 has lil bit higher SoT than RN3. It because of the 625 Snapdragon. Its almost equally fast as 650 Snapdragon, but the battery managment ist better.
Thats why a RN4 user should get more SoT than RN3 user.
Just yeah, there is a thread here in P2 forums, where people posted screenshots of SoT.
Some have reached 16 (!!!) hours of SoT. Thats why I thought of getting a P2 and selling the RN4. 6 hours SoT more for just 50€ is A LOT in my opinion.
They said it was normal use which means web browsing, youtube, facebook and bit gaming.
I dont know if thats true nor I can confirm it, but those 16 hours SoT more on P2 are really amazing.
I'm not sure if RN4 can achieve that. Maybe 12 hours but not more.
On another note, I think that noboy of us need more than 10 hours screen on. I would charge my phone every night anyways.
Or at least I think so because my lg g2 is over the night on a charger. Maybe I will change my mind when the RN4 finally arrives!
@Siva Mk,
P2 or RN3?
@chorba69 I charge my RN3 PRO SE twice a week (sometimes three times, especially when power-using it over the weekend when I'm off).
So yeah... your charging habits might change if you are coming from a < 4000mah device.
@MrColdbird,
alright thanks.
Just, you are then not a power user or?
I mean I spend over 5 hours per day on my phone.
Whole day at work a bit (8 hours) and then when I come home I dont use my laptop/PC since I can do everything on my phone.
Thats why I think I am gonna charge my phone every night. Maybe with RN4 every second night.

german user here ...
just got my p2 like a week ago ( last sat ) and i am still running the first charge....
current stats are
25% remaining charge
4 d 20h "device on"
4 h 30 min display on
- gps, bt, wifi, auto brightness, all push on
- paired with android wear ( so my screen on is a bit lower because i can check stuff on watch )
pretty happy so far.
lovely device, haven't experienced any bugs with stock nougat
annoying for 14 days unlock bootloader wait
lte (vodafone prepaid) working fine
before i have seen a lot of deals of the xiaomi redmi note 4 and was almost into that one, but i rather prefered the bigger battery and emui is quite **** ( came from that from another device )
speaker quite clear it's a breesze to watch some videos ( except htc m7 the second device which has actually good sound )
ask me anything...
p2 on amazon several times for 230€ ( fr or it ) - actually got 3 devices in like a month ( few friends wanted too, they got it first) rather wanted to complain at amazon if anything goes on within 2 years.
xiaomi redmi 4 is sold on gearbest for like 150-160€ with UK to Germany shipping but i don't like that shop...
I love my P2. I have an iPhone 6S Plus and an LG V10 too. But they have been unused for weeks. The P2 is special with its battery life. Very smooth in operation and it feels good in the hand. Very good screen with great outdoor visibility even in brighter days. Camera is OK nothing more. The only weak point really. It's good enough in good light though.
I constantly get 15 hours screen on time with my P2 over three days full usage.
@endrancer, @dannejanne,
daamn guys you are gonna make me sell the Redmi Note 4 before it even comes to my house lol
Everything you have said is just good. I mean okay, Camera could be better but Redmi Note 4 camera isnt better either so that is not a big deal between those two.
The only "problem" is; nobody of you two ever used RN4 right? I mean, you cant give me a comparasion between those two because you have never used the RN4.
But, how does the P2 feel in the hand? slippery or its cool? or you have a phone-case?
I've watched a lot of youtube videos and the only thing I have noticed (thats worth mentioning) is the battery, which is obvious.
P2 might be 0,1 seconds faster but I dont care about that. And thats maybe just because of the software.
If both had a LineageOS, it would be the same (I think at least).
And about the price on amazon/gearbest @endrancer ;
I found some offers for P2 on ebay for 180-190€. 3 weeks old but without scratches = almost new.
And yeah, I bought the RN4 on gearbest for 147€. for 10€ a cool case and 2 screen protectors. that meanst for 160€ everything I need.
P2 ist about 50€ more expensive but yeah. If 50€ is for 5 hours SoT more, then I would get it. If it is for 1-1.5 hours more, I think I'll pass.

No I have not used the RN4. Only other Xiaomi phones such as the Mi Max and Mi Mix.
It feels great in the hand. Very solid. Build quality like any flagship. The back is anodized aluminum and it is not slippery at least not for me. Some aluminum phones can be slippery. Not this one. I go all naked. You simply don't get anything better for the money today really. It's a fantastic allrounder that is impossible to kill in one day.
And yeah the speaker is AWESOME. Very full sound with bass even. For the first time I use the phone as a mini stereo from time to time.

it's up to you to judge.
the device feels good by itself - comparing other devices with a huge battery ( like elephone p8000 with 4000mah ) p2 is really slim and light having even bigger battery.
p2 has a few roms but i wonder which sub-community is more active and stable.
something to consider as well - i have seen there's replacement batteries available for 25-30€ for p2, however i am still to find a guild/video to see if it's easily replaceable. the only video i have seen is to change screen which looked pretty easy to do - not sure if battery is accessable.
as i said before redmi 4 is a good device it was in my considering as well, but in case there is anything going on with the device you do not have any chance with gearbest.
performance wise, i am not hardcore user... i guess snapdragon 625 is a mixture between good performance and efficient battery. hence hardcore gamers won't get their take on that device, but for everything casual ( even if gaming ) it's good enough. stock rom isn't boated, a few apps may need to be uninstall, everything has been working buttery smooth.
many people already state the camera is bad. for now i have taken like 2-3 shots only as i have way better camera which support wifi and this is not a concern. to send a picture over whatsapp/messenger it's good enough.
several users as read here do not feel the need for custom rom as everything is super good. for myself i am willing to get rooted first, the rom is fine by itself, still want to have backup options though.
i guess in the end it comes up to you. noone will be able to tell you if you, on your usage will get this or that more battery time. number wise if redmi has 4000mah and p2 has 5100 mah you should have approximately 20% more battery lifetime.
i am not sure about the specs. make sure to compare the right device, as there are several subversions of the redmi note 4 ....
mediatek processor? deca core might want to suck some battery compared to the sd625
screen wise it's LCD vs Amoled, since amoled on black /off pixels does not suck battery, who knows p2 has the edge here?
battery wise, there's a test that it charges quite superfast, even if you were run out of battery, within one hour charging you are set for the day...
lastly on the p2 i also like the ultra power savings switch. especially when going to bed you can just flip the switch and turn off all (except signal) ... let's say this is a mute function 2:0.
in the end you could just try out the xiaomi, with the price it comes, you can easily sell it for almost the same after 2-3 weeks... if you loose 20 €... who cares...
I have the p2 and had a rn4 also. Prefer p2. I don't like finger sensors on the back as much better on front plus also having a zuk z2 I love the u touch button and hate on screen ones. Shame on screen buttons can't be fully disabled.
Screen is nicer on p2 and build feels better to me, nicer in the hand. Battery is awesome. I had a Le max 2 up to last week and never got more than 4hrs sot. I sold that to get a one plus 3t but decided to give p2 a try. Performance is not that far behind the Le max 2 with sd 820 in every day use and I was expecting it to be way slower.
I am not a big photographer so this camera seems good to me. Every pic taken looks good.
Don't forget Nfc on p2 too. I use contactless payments all time now and works perfect.
One of best phones I have owned tbh.

After the recent update i could say i was able to feel some heat only while playing games or some heavy usage.
I dont see any specific abnormal heating issues.
i'd like to say heating issue is not an issue on this phone. but very sure ppl will jump in and say they have this and it's bad, etc...
for me. i play games like Mobile Legends and Arena of Valor. no issues. no heat.
but i know that some actually complain of some heat after recording 4k video on the phone for a long time.
i've never had to record in 4K. never feel the need to. most devices can't play 4k anyway. my tv is only 1080 and my phone's only 2K (the honor 8 Pro)?!? but ya, ppl who do video editing might do that. then again, if they are into video editing, i doubt they'd be using a smartphone as recording device... so, in real world practical sense... i think it's a good phone. no heat issue.

i'm using the honor 8 Pro and i'd lie if i say there is no heat. there is when i use 4G and play games like MOBA. but usually, it's very, very little and at times it does get more only when the area has got poor reception.
is this phone "warmer" than other phones? no. if anything, i think it stays cooler than some phones I have used, including Samsung Note 2 and Note 7 or even the OnePlus One.
it does not get terribly warm or anything like that. i don't use 4K recording. so, not sure how warm the phone gets.
hope that answers your Q.

It will not heat in regular browsing and gaming.
Extended usage of camera beyond 15 or 20 minutes can make it warm and not heat.
I played real racing 3 for about half an hour and it didn't heat up at all.
The thing is people don't know the difference between heat and warm.
A device will get warm of extended usage and under extensive load. More so, if it's made of metal.

Seen that many times. People will say it's heating though it is just lukewarm.
I too had a oneplus 3. I did tons of review hunting and finally settled for Honor 8 pro. Been a month now almost, i can say i m impressed with the device. Good luck to u!!
If you have One Plus 3. You SHOULD'NT waste your money on Honor 8 Pro.
Trust me! There is ZERO difference in performance in day to day usage.
may be 10% better in Benchmarks.
Games actually perform better in OPO3 due do having an Adreno gpu and HD resolution.
Camera benefits from having more details due to 16 MP.
Battery full charge in 40 odd minutes compared to 2 hours plus on Honor 8 Pro.
H265 10 BIT HARDWARE DECODING in SD 820 compared to NADA in Kirin 960 (In short, h265 10 bit videos don't play).
So unless you're desperate for a card slot or IR blaster, there's little to NO reason for you to get Honor 8 Pro.

- Kirin 960 performs better than sd820 on op3 and some benchmarks shows it performs about the same as sd835.
- About the gpu yes, adreno a bit better. But dont worry, because later on oreo update u can change res to 1080p or 720p, so gaming performance will improve.
- Nicest design for honor 8 pro.
- Camera a lot better in honor 8 pro, bokeh effects, more details even its just 12mp compare to 16mp op3. Camera on op3 are noisy, check the comparison on website.
- Nice 2k screen on honor 8 pro.
- Battery a lot better than op3.
So apart from sd card slot and ir blaster, theres a lot things better in honor 8 pro.

My young brother owns op3. Honor 8 pro camera wins all the way. The overall quality, dynamic range, contrast, sharpening, white balance, color accurate, low noise picture all wins on honor 8 pro side. Low lights picture also better than op3. Compare it with op3, pixel peeping shows op3 has some grainier and noisy photo, even my brother agrees with it. Oh did u try the wide aperture mode? Results are really nice. About the media format, u can always install mx player from play store. Sure battery charging a bit slow because of the big 4000mah capacity, but I dont mind that as it last longer in moderate usage.
Well everyone has their own opinion anyway, so heres mine. Chill.
As for me, yes, dont buy the honor 8 pro yet because honor v10 is coming out next month. Better wait for it, a lot improvement than honor 8 pro with the same price tag.

I only specifically mentioned about details in pictures due to having more mega pixel. No cure for that.
And I am talking about MX player only. Please try playing H265 10 bit file on it with a Honor 8 Pro.
Then do the same with Oneplus 3. You'll be surprised! One of them WONT play. One of them will play silky smooth.
Also see in settings/decoder which of the formats are hardware accelerated in both.
Kirin 960 might be raw power (Only CPU). But Snapdragon is like super refined and overall well rounded.
Performance wise no real world difference. It would be total waste to upgrade.
I am not giving my opinion but simply stating the facts as I've experienced; to help the OP make wise decision.
HI EVERYONE
I'M THE CREATOR OF NUMEROUS POSTS OF ROG PHONE 2 . AFTER ALMOST TWO YEARS I REALIZE THAT THIS PHONE IS THE BEST FOR MY NEEDS . I'VE TESTED MORE THAN 50 SMARtPHONES EVEN MI 10 PRO AND THEY AMAZING JBL SPEAKERS( THIS IS THE LATEST I HAD) BUT BATTERY IS NOT AS GOOD AS ROG , SPEAKERS AREN'T VERY LOUD BUT GOOD QUALITY AND BASSES.... BUT LET'S TALK ABOUT THIS ROG WHY IS BETTER
- IT HAS VERY SOLID BUILD QUALITY. GORILLA GLASS 6 , GLASS AND METAL COMBO, 7000 SERIES ALUMINIUM( ROG PHONE 5 IS WELL COSTRUCTED BUT IT BEND MORE EASILY THAN IPHONE 6 PLUS AND IT'S UNACCETABLE FOR 899$ PHONE.
-FIRST ROG WITH 6000MAH BATTERY THAT CAN LAST UP TO 2 DAYS, EVEN 3 WITH 60 HZ AND DARK THEME!
-IT HAS 3.5MM JACK WITH EXCELLENT QUALITY AND EQ (I REALLY MISS ON ROG PHONE 3 AND MOST HIGH END SMARTPHONES)
-IT HAS PROBABLY THE LOUDEST SPEAKERS I' VE EVER HEARD WITH VERY GOOD QUALITY AND CLARITY+ OUDOOR MODE THAT BOAST TREBLE ( ROG 3 DOESN'T HAVE THIS AND ALSO QUIETER SPEAKERS WITH SIMULATED BASSES)
-IT HAS 2 STRONGER VIBEATOR MOTORS ( MOST PHONE INCLUDED ROG 3 HAS ONLY 1)
-4 WIFI ANTENNAS, 4 MICROPHONES
-FIRST 10BIT OLED HDR 120 HZ, 240HZ SAMPLING RATE DISPLAY WITH VERY GOOD DELTA ( QHD IS NOT NECESSARY UNLESS YOU USE VR, AND IT CONSUME MORE BATTERY AND LOWER THE FPS) 90HZ IS THE STANDARD BASE FOR 2020, FROM 60 YOU WILL NOTICE A DIFFERENCE. 120 IS RECCOMEDED , 144 IS ONLY FOR EXTREME GAMING AND DRAIN A LOT. BUT UI,SOCIAL,GAMES BEST IS 120 FOR EYES
-RGB LOGO. THIS IS COOL FOR NOTIFICATION, DURING NIGHT , IT'S A DISTINGUISHABLE SPEC THAT PEOPLE WILL NOTICE.
-18W CHARGING WILL DEGRADE BATTERY LOWER THAN FAST CHARGER LIKE 65W OR 120 AND MY TIP IS TO CHARGE UP TO 80%. THIS PHONE ALSO SUPPORT 30W. SINCE THE BATTERY IS 6000 MAH I RECCOMEND BOTH . BOTH ARE SAFE
-FIRST ROG WITH ALMOST STOCK ANDROID.ANDROID 9 IS LATEST ROM THAT SUPPORT ALSO GLTOOL ( FUTURE PROOF TOOL FOR GPU DRIVERS) AND ALSO ANDROID 9 HAS RW SISTEM. I RECCOMEND THIS ROM BECAUSE A10 IS NOT AS OPTIMIZED AS A9 AND IT' S HAS LOTS OF PERMISSION THAT MADE MODS, APPS NOT COMPATIBLE. BATTERY IS ALSO BETTER IN A9
-AIRTRIGGERS
-FAST UFS 3.0 STORAGE, LOTS OF RAM STORAGE, LAG FREE DEVICE. COSTANT PERFORMANCE
-2 PORTS. USB 3.1 AND 2.0 FOR CHARGING AND REVERSE CHARGING
-GOOD CAMERA EIS( WITH GCAM YOU WILL DO MUCH BETTER PHOTOS AND VERY STABLE 60FPS VIDEOS)
- VERY FAST 855+ PROCESSOR DON'T OVERHEAT AND BETTER TEMPS THAN LATEST 800 SERIES SOCs.
-BEST ROG EVER MADE FOR AESTETIC ( ORANGE ACCENTS ON THE BACK AND THE SPEAKERS, BACK COVER HAS METAL COLOR, MORE COLORFUL ACCENTS ON THE BACK AND MORE SQUARE CAMERAS AND FRAME, IT HAS MORE GAMING LOOK.
THE CONS THAT NOT AFFECT MY DECISION TO BUY AGAIN THIS PRODUCT:
-NO IP RATING, FOR NORMAL USE LIKE RAIN IS PROTECTED SINCE THERE IS NO DIRECT CONTACT TO MOTHERBOARD
-NO WIRELESS CHARGING, I DON'T NEED AND USE I PREFER 3.5 MM JACK THAN THIS..
-NO OIS FOR CAMERA , GCAM WILL FIX THIS WITH NIGHT MODE AND THEIR AMAZING SHOTS AND VIDEOS ( MORE THAN ENOUGH FOR A GAMING PHONE)
-NO DDR5 RAM OR LATEST SOC: 855 PLUS IS PROBABLY THE BEST SOC SINCE DOESN'T OVERHEAT A SINGLE DAY. IT'S MORE EFFICIENT THAN 865 OR 888. THESE OVERHEATS AS LOT OF REVIEWS. DDR4 RAM IS VERY GOOD IF YOU HAVE 8/12 GB ON A PHONE. NO DIFFERENCE IN REAL LIFE.
-NO 8K. NO NEED SINCE PANEL IS FULL HD AND YOU NEED 8K TV FOR SEE THE VIDEO RECORDED
-NO 5G. IT'S FASTER BUT DEPEND BY COUNTRY COVERAGE. THIS WILL DRAIN MORE BATTERY AND MAKE DEVICE HOT. FOR ME IS ENOUGH 4G+ SINCE IS MORE MATURE TECNOLOGY FOR MY NEEDS
-NO SD CARD( BUY 128 OR 512/1T STORAGE NO PROBLEM)
-WEIGHT( THIS IS VERY BALANCED ON ROG 2 TAKE CONSIDERATION OF THAT)
i bought again from giztop at very good price new for 459$ 8/128 gb is a lot for me and i SUGGEST as base in 2021 64gb at least, RECCOMENDED 128GB
i will modify some my post to get best possible user experience on this phone

Nice promotion, next time please include your optimal stock rom version.
Now I'm pondering to choose in dozens of different versions, Android 9 vs 10 vs 11...
Now, I have a vague understanding such at this:
Android 9 has best battery life but a lot of bugs, choose version carefully
Android 10 is worst
Android 11 has medium battery life, new features, a lot of incompatible apps that bring bugs like battery draining...

Obviously my impressions with "latest updates" are very bad.
Every time an Android device update (or being forced to), battery life always downgrade or shortened, because phone providers want you to feel sluggish, slowed, outdated, inconvenient with your devices. Then you would want to buy newer models after 3 years.
My friends all used Oppo and Samsung. First stock roms always have best battery life and smoothest experience. Then things went down until 2-3 years later, when every devices become all laggy, jittery, battery hungry.

Ok now I updated my experience so far for Android 11:
2201.211 rom: Cannot root, even if I installed Magisk 24.3 FIVE times - yes I tried so many times and ways to install root
2111.160 rom: Can root after installing Magisk 24.3.
- I then used Mantis Gamepad Pro to use PS5 controller. After 2 days it stopped recognizing inputs.
- Without Mantis Gamepad Pro, I can use PS5 controller but of course cannot map properly in-game
- Battery draining rate with Bluetooth is very fast (even when the only app opened is Mantis Gamepad Pro + Ebook reader), -80% battery in 3 hours
=> I'm back to 1910.35 for Android 9 - doubled battery saving, better performance, no Mantis Gamepad Pro bugs
Also, I need to update two bugs in Android 11:
+ It does not accept chargers from other brands, for me it's TWO different Samsung 18W charger (Android 9 accepted them normally).
+ It does not accept charging after being drained to 0%. I accidentally slept when reading ebook, making it drop from 50% to 0% during the night.
Next day, no matter what kind of charger (Oppo, Samsung, Asus), it flashed green charging circle for 0.5s then screen off. I had to charge using Asus charger for 1 hour to bring it to 1%, then held Power key to enter OS. Then it did NOT accept charging, I had to re-plug Asus charger again to make it recognize charging.

Android 11 has Accessibility bug that's not been fixed in any rom
Fake Camera app also cannot work on Android 11
Besides the better System UI and keyboard switching button - I cannot find a reason why Android 11 is better.
Android 9 consumes 5% per 30 min gameplay
Android 11 consumes 20% per 30min gameplay
This is a huge difference man.
However, Android 9 System UI would often stop working for 5-10s if I use older apps in 2018, which is a little annoying.
Was thinking of buying the phone alongside with mine Vivo x80 Pro, as it's battery is total disaster.
How's the ROG6 experience in terms of battery, speakers, performance? Would like to hear from someone who has the device rather than paid youtubers.
Battery life is good thanks to the power-efficient 8+ Gen 1.
Comparison in Genshin Impact showed lower power consumption per FPS than 8 Gen 1 phones while maintaining a high frame rate.
The average of 59 FPS is the best among the 8+ Gen 1 phones I have compared!
Thermal throttling is loose, so if you want to play for a long time, you should have a cooler.
For the speaker, both bass and treble sounded beautifully, especially treble was clear and distinct.
It's front speaker so not easily blocked by hands when held horizontally.

Update the phone and do a system reset, you should have around 460GB left or even more.
speaker is worse than rog 3 because rog 3 has seperate dac for 2 speakers, rog 6 only have one dac for 2 speaker and headphone jack, sound is nice but weak bass, cant compare to rog 3 or blackshark 5 . perfomance is extremely smooth, Asus kinda undervolt the soc so they dont overheat as much as rog 3 and 5 during gaming section(particularly genshin impact max setting), while gaming with max setting genshin , phone temp never pass 43 degree( when using rog 3 its around 50-52) , with the cooling fan the phone barely reach 37 degree . Battery life is very good if u turn off some useless feature like asus logo back light and live screen . Camera perfomance depends on ppl , i barely take any picture so its acceptable . If this phone can stay alive after 6 months without dead ic chip----> best gaming phone of 2022

I bought it two days ago, the speakers are great but shame they downgraded it.
Battery life is superb without tweaking anything, camera is ok and very good at daylight if you use RAW.
It's a great daily driver and gaming phone, i bought it only for the daily drive thing as i barely play games on the phone, wish mine Vivo X80 Pro had the performance, endurance and speakers of the Rog6.
Can you please elaborate on the downgraded speakers part?
My understanding is that they're a bit quieter compared to ROG-3 but speaker sound quality is better....
Interesting details about the sound/speakers. Bad one to cheap out on. ROG 5 has quite upgraded sound experience compared to ROG 3. Better sound, deeper bass, etc.. If the 6 ranks below 3, then it's a big step down on the audio experience...
Can anyone else confirm that?
That would reflect bad on Asus.
Might sound stupid but i bought this device only because it has no notch/punchhole, a good battery, better software support and higher Screen refresh rate compared to red magic 7s pro. I will miss the internal cooler of red magic tbh. But the external cooler makes sense if you consider playing for a longer period as you won't be carrying it in your pocket anyways when playing for longer periods. I will cap the performance which should still be enough without throttling and without any cooler. I like that they have that option outside of x mode where it doesn't throttle at all and limits the performance without a cooler attached. Thats just amazing

Bought this phone for same reason minus gaming reasons.
Mine X80 Pro standby and battery are so bad it's not funny, and it's slow compared to the ROG6.
ROG6 barely refreshes any apps in the background and the battery life is great, some minor bugs like some stutters from time to time on BT when the screen is off.
