Is it possible to root Android 8? - Nexus 5X Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I plan on installing the new Android 8 beta 4 to try the new features.
And I was wondering if it is possible to root this version yet.
There are some apps I need root for so it's really important.
Thanks.

Does for me. But I flashed ElementalX before Magisk 13.3 so I'm not sure if that has any bearing

Yup. I have recently rooted dp4 and installed TWRP as well. I always use adaway and a couple of other rooted apps .

Can I install TWRP through Nexus root toolkit?
Is the version there compatible with Android o?

I installed TWRP and SuperSU and everything works fine

I have been running V9 for months and have not had a problem with lockups. But then I don't use my phone the way that some people do.
V8 is lock up free (I believe) but the battery life is not as good. (Again, I debloat and run Greenify and WakeLock Detect, so battery life has always been good for me.)
I would suggest starting with V9 (also see note below) and if you have issues, flash V8 in TWRP and clear both caches. Very easy to switch kernels.
NOTE: You can also use the Systemless Root, which leaves you at the stock kernel with Root. See http://forum.xda-developers.com/spr...systemless-root-supersu-v2-64-custom-t3277353

Note 5 marshmallow* Odin package.

Hey everyone. currently uploading the latest Odin package fresh off Samsung's kitchen

That is the build number. It is the same as Verizon's note 5 MM update.
I do not have the ATT note 5 to test this on so when the file is uploaded I will need someone to confirm for me. Thanks!

That's confusing,how can it have a mm build # and be 5.1.1 ?
have a look.
the MM beta is N920AUCU2BPB2, this is N920AUCU2APB2. coincidentally, N920AUCU2APB2 is the version all these various root methods are based on.
so, is this maybe an unreleased update from ATT? I can't really see any differences, and the phone works fine. I'm almost tempted to try one of those root files, but frankly I'm a little tired of wiping my phone when it gets buggy like chimera did to it.
That's the purpose and the fun of testing

I've tested those root files posted here in 5.1.1. None of them work. I flashed back the stock boot image and my N920A is still working fine. But I don't want to flash this MM Odin files because I don't want to loose everything that I have downladed. I know I can backup first, and I already did, but I prefer to wait for the official MM upgrade from AT&T.

I saw in another forum that you should be able to use CFAR. I'll find and link it here.

We're are now just waiting for Wanam to Patch an Xposed module for Samsung Devices that run marshmallow, it seems that the Note 4 for some reason isn't using the same method as the others and will only put us in a boot loop.

All you have to do is install latest twrp which is the sprint 3.0 and install the latest SuperSU which is the 2.68 which is made especially for the MM. There isn't a kernel yet bit that's being worked on. Here's where you can do it at:

I think its because of the OTA Marshmallow update is Odex'd though I'm not 100% sure about that. Anyways within a week Wanam should have a fix out. (Hopefully) Though the only thing thats stopping him at this point is that he needs Logcats to find out why its bootlooping.
you guys are nuts. i thought xposed is only fully functional on a deoxed rom? stock is not deoxed. even if it gets working. it wont fully work unless you deoxed the rom your self. or a dev releases a deoxed version.

Nope, works on odexed lollipop rom just fine. Wanam recently posted a test build for Sprint Marshmallow. Not on marshmallow myself, so I can't test it.

i tested it, and it did not work. I'm not that knowledgeable with this stuff, but am trying to work with him via his xposed thread to get it going for us.
There's a beta version of the xposed framework from wanam.
I sent a message to wanam to take the permission to post it here.

Unfortunately the beta version didn't work.
There is still frozen on sprint logo.
But wanam wants more feedback to solve this problem.

If you go to miui from mi flash , it will automatically change recovery to stock and unroot your device. You can flash custom recovery after that and root from that recovery

Thank you so much. All doubts cleared.
Bootloop in miui 9 after flashing xposed
root your rom with magisk and install magisk's xposed, works for me
Running XenonHD, helium and tried v88 and v88.1
Able to flash framework and install Xposed_Installer. But what i want is gravitybox and installing that results in bootloops.
Have not tried other modules as i dont need anything else.

[XPOSED] Unlock Dual Sims + SDCard on S9/S9+

This Xposed module removes the unable-to-remove popup message which says that "something wrong is in the sim tray" -
if you use a sim extender to use the device with dual sims and sdcard.
There is no need to recompile services.jar if you have xposed framework installed.

hi, i think xposed framework itself needs root as it hooks into system libraries to work - but you have to read the xposed framework howto.
my apk does not need root by itself. die module is just an addon for xposed framework so you have to install that first.

If you upgraded to Pie you're out of luck I'm afraid. Xposed supports Nougat and Oreo (even though the oreo is more like a beta) The guy Rovo probably don't have the time to get xposed working for pie. Since there's few people with his skillset, and due to the complexity of xposed, I wouldn't be surprised if we seen the last of Xposed with oreo.

Virtual Xposed can only alter apps within it's own sandbox (virtual box). Therefore it can not reach system calls or apps outside of the sandbox, so no it won't work
