I awoke this morning to find my sd card in my Tab S 10.5 had corrupted overnight. Besides losing all the apps installed there, I now can't get it partitioned again for adoptable storage.
Basically, I want to set the card up as 55% adoptable, 45% external. I was following this procedure before, but it isn't working now. Also, Apps2SD isn't creating a script either.
Can someone give me a few pointers? I think I remember using MiniTool Partition Wizard when I did it before, after the marshmallow update, but if I did, I can't find the guide that I used for it.
The card has likely gone bad. I don't advise reusing it.

Hey guys,
I was going through the process of installing the new leedroid rom by T-mod 2.2d.
I did a back up from nandroid and did a full wipe.
I went to install from zip and i couldnt find any of my ROMs i had copied onto my sd card? i am 100% confident i placed them in there.
Just today i partitioned my sd card properly with two primary partions of fat32 and ext3. Fat 32 has 29gb free and ext 3 has 512. Could there be a problem here? i just followed the instructions provided and everything looked sweet.
Before i had partitioned i copied all my files onto my HD then i proceeded using Gparted. Since everything was wiped off my SD card i just cut all the backup files from my HD back to the SD. It took up too much space on my pc!
All i have done is factory wiped and clear dalvik and then i rebooted (since none of the ROMs were listed in 'install zip from sd card'. It was then stuck on the leedroid startup page and goes on a loop.
I then performed a restore from nandroid. It now boots up fine, but now my SD card seems to be corrupted! all the files in there are shown with symbols etc. I can add new files into the sd card though and they dont appear to have weird symbols. I clicked on the disk and clicked on the diagnostic button which i also selected to fix automatically issues. Now my whole SD is wiped. and there are no files in there anymore... i put a few mp3s within and the music players dont detect any mp3 music.
Anyone have a take on what i can do? argh! i am still on 2.2b after the restore but my sd card has no files etc.
please someone help me, i will be very grateful!

it may just be a corrupt sd card, it happens sometimes you should return it and get it replaced
It was working 100% fine for a long time mate.
Should i go back into Gparted and delete my ext3 partition? I want to format my sd card, but im really confused atm.
My phone is working etc with all messages and phone history still here. It is running T-mod 2.2b. But all my apps which i had stored to my sd card are no longer functioning and i also wiped delvik from my phone.

your best bet isnt to just format it, but use gparted to delete both partitions on your sd card, then re-partition and try again
I just deleted both partitions and just created 1 partition as fat 32 will full memory using Gparted. I unmounted my phone and took the sd card out and put it back in, rebooted.
Connected it to my pc - but there are no folders in the SD card?
The phone isnt installing any software on the sd card when i boot it up?
I put mp3 files into the sd card but the phone doesnt read any music. Is it because im using a rooted desire? with T-mod 2.2b.
Literally all my files on my SD card are gone, no idea how to proceed
anyone??
I can still move apps (not the dalvik) to the sd card.
But my SD card has no folders in it. My phone wont install any on the SD card.
It says i have full memory out of full memory available. I formatted the sd card just then, since all my files are not there anyways.. still nothing happening
Help! running T-mod leedroid 2.2b! all internal apps etc are working fine.
What if i perfom an nandroid backup, store it to the sd card.
Then put the 2.2d rom and radio rom on and flash the two?
Will all the folders etc be stored back to my sd card?
Update: performed nandroid backup. Put 2.2d rom and radio rom on the sd card and again it does not appear on the zip list in recovery.
What is going on!
Fixed pm me if you want solution

why not post here? if this turns out to be quite common you woudnt want to reply to xxx users would you ?
I have had the same issue twice now under LeeDroid 2.2a and 2.2b.
Right now I am using my Ubuntu laptop so I inserted the SD card into the laptop. It mounts the 7.5 gig Fat32 partition and lets me read what's on there, but it wont properly mount the ext3 partition. It shows as blank in the file browser (on the laptop) and wont let me copy to it or create any new files, so it seems corrupted in some way.
I knew I had a problem last night because my phone freezes on the white-background with green "HTC" lettering whilst booting. If I take the SD card out of the phone it boots ok, likewise if I replace the card with a different one, that's only formatted Fat32, that works ok.
I used the built in function of ROM manager to prepare the SD card, it created a 512mb ext3 partition at the end of the disk, not sure if that makes a difference. Has anyone had any success using proper apps like gparted to partition the card?
Really pi**ed off at this phone now. Dont want to wipe the card again just to have it work in my phone for another week.
[Solution]
I had a friend check out what was up with my SD card. Nandroids and zips were being stored onto the sd card but they weren't appearing on the fat32 side.
In fact, all the files were being stored to ext3! this was the root of the issue. I believe i partitioned incorrectly or what not by using Gparted. I have resulted in using Rom Manager (download off market) instead to set partition ~ much easier.
To fix the main issue with SD card: Go to phone settings -> SD & Phone Storage -> Unmount SD card --> Format SD Card.
Files should appear on your sd card again -> connect your phone to your USB and check that the files are back. That's your fix
Then just add your Roms, music, videos back onto your fat32 partition as before. Using Rom Manager, the Roms stored on SD appear again.
Edit: i have installed T-mod leedroid 2.2d and is working great.
To the previous post ~ i just did a full wipe because all my files on the SD card were corrupted anyways, could not even copy them. But i didn't think my SD card itself was corrupted.
Thanks,
Brendan
I did a little more investigating last night. On Ubuntu, if I insert the SD card, it mounts both partitions, but it can only read the fat32 one. I can see my images and stuff from there so I know its ok. But if I view the ext3 partition, it shows as empty, but if I right click on it, the properties show that there is 123mb in use of the 512mb partition. That seems about right because there should be some apps and stuff in there. I have made sure that the files arent hidden or anything, but still nothing.
If I try and copy anything to the partition, it wont let me and gives me a rather cryptic error: something along the lines that it cant access the card because it is not ready? I couldn't even unmount the disk because of the same error. I dont have my Ubuntu machine with me now so I cant check.
I can copy the stuff I want off my card and re-format/partition it but to be honest its more hassle than its worth.
I'd be more inclined to find out why this is happening. It only seems to go after the handset is rebooted (my battery went flat on Saturday) and since then, nothing.
I appreciate you posting your solution but I think we have slightly different problems..
Thanks
I bought a Transcend 16Gb Class 6 sd card for my desire.
Because the phone is rooted and running A2SD+ i partitioned is using Gparted: 1st partition 15GB FAT32; second 1GB EXT3 - no swap.
Used this in my phone. All was fine for a while. Then i started having apps disappear on me. When i tried to re-install the apps the phone would just reboot.
Proceeded to go back the stock 4GB card, no issues.
So i believe its an SD Card problem. However in my pc, i dont have any issue reading this card.
Anybody else experience similar?
Should i get a replacement card?
Anything i might be doing wrong?

The reason it reboot is that part of the app is still stored on internal memory so when you try to reinstall it it will reboot as it cannot install part of an app.
You don't need a replacement card all you need to do is restore a nandroid backup which then adds the data from the SD-ext partition to the new card and then it should work if you haven't got a backup you will have to re flash the Rom and reinstall all the apps via the market or with titanium or my backup
Hope this helps

I have done a full nandroid backup and restore from the working 4GB card to the 16GB. Did this a few time over as I experimented with different EXT3 partition sizes, thinking that a 1GB partition might have been too large.
I didn't have the reboot issue, but apps would lock up, and in some instances the phone would say the SD card is read only.
downloaded an ran a program to test the card (http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/System-Miscellaneous/H2testw.shtml). It came up with no errors.
Any other checks i can run?
My 4Gb card works flawlessly, but the 16gb has so many issues. Really confused.
Example: When viewing pictures, in the gallery (nexus gallery) the pics take a long time to load on the 16Gb, no issue on the 4GB.The force closes. The apps disappearing, and then phone rebooting when reinstalling.
Hey everyone,
It's my first time rooting my Desire. I followed the "noob proof" guide, skipping the S-OFF step (figured I don't really need it if I'm just flashing ROMs).
I partitioned my SD card successfully (16GB -> 14GB FAT32, 1GB EXT4) using GParted and the card was working well. I made a backup and then flashed MildWild 5.0. Everything seems to be working fine except the SD card is not recognized. In Storage settings the "Mount SD card" option is grayed out and it says "Insert an SD card for mounting". I tried restarting the phone, reinserting the card, but that didn't work.
On a side note, when I partitioned the card first and ran stock rom I couldn't mount the card too, but the option wasn't grayed out, and after a restart it was OK - capacity and free space was reported correctly.
I guess it's a problem with the partitioning, but is there anything I could try before repartitioning the card again? This might be a logical way of dealing with the current situation (card is completely empty), but what if this happens again after using the phone for a while and storing all kinds of stuff on the card?
PS. I haven't tried to see if the card is visible in windows, because I don't have a card reader. I'll try GParted again tomorrow, but now I'm off to bed.
Thanks!
I had the exact same problem and fixed it by putting the card in a card reader, and running the "Scan drive for errors" tool in Windows. It found errors the first time, and I ran it twice to be safe.
Hi,
I managed to connect the card my PC by mounting USB storage in ClockworkMod recovery. I scanned the disk for errors but there were none. Unfortunately after rebooting the device still couldn't see the card.
Also while in recovery I could mount the sdcard and sd-ext, or at least appeared that I could - the lines changed to "unmount (...)" but there was no notification of successful or failed mounting.
What should I try next? Repartition with GParted (probably by mounting usb storage in recovery, otherwise it's not recognized there either) or try that with ClockworkMod? Or perhaps 4EXT?
Thanks!
OK, I tried partitioning the card again with GParted, but nothing changed. I am beginning to think something might be wrong with the card.
And after some reading I understand that partitioning with CWM isn't favored by most, so eventually I might try 4EXT. In that case, do I need S-OFF to install it? The question has been asked in the developer's thread recently, but no one has answer it and a few other threads seem to suggest that you don't necessarily need S-OFF, unless you would like to use some specific feature(s).
So do you need S-OFF to install 4EXT on the Desire or not?
Hello,
I´m on a stock ROM, that I have only rooted. Nothing else is done to the phone.
I have been using Android´s built in encryption for both internal and external memory cards, without any issues, since a few months.
When I woke up this morning and started my phone (the battery had died) I couldn´t mount the encrypted external microSD card. I got an error stating that the memory card couldn´t be mounted because it needs at least 1 MB of free storage.
Before I went to bed I started a torrent download on the phone to the external memory card. Apparently that must have filled the whole memory card (I had only 2GB left of free space) and then the battery must have died.
So, the error message says I need to remove some files to "encrypt" (mount) the memory card How do I remove files from the memory card if I can´t mount it? Can I mount the encrypted memory card on a PC with a card reader?
I´m NOT interested in formatting the card since I have invaluable material on the memory card. The most important issue for me is to not loose my data.
Please help me if you have any insight into this problem.

You rooted?
If yes then try aroma file manager or twrp.
If not try card reader option as well.

Hi,
I am rooted yes. But I have the stock recovery manager as far as I know.
I couldn't find any "Aroma file manager" and don't know what TWRP is. I searched the play store for twrp and found different recovery managers.
Could you be more specific? My problem is that the card won't mount since the system states that it requires at least 1MB free memory on the card. The same card I cannot mount. So as I see it I'm in a catch 22.
Has anyone any knowledge of how to mount a encrypted memory card on a PC? What OS should I use, any particular software?
Thanks...
Ok, I tried using a memory card reader on a windows PC.
The files didn´t look encrypted at all. This is VERY weird. Either the files are individually encrypted or something or they weren´t encrypted at all
I could see all files, their names and the file sizes I removed about a GigaByte of crap and inserted it into my phone again
The phone mounted the memory card without any problems.
So this was actually a non-issue.
Problem solved!

My experience is that files are individually encrypted. You can navidate the directory structure and see all files but cannot open them.
Hi,
I have rooted my phone, applied the revolutions ROM and also ElementalX Kernal.
Everything is working but when I plug the phone into the PC to sync of look at the files. The Internal SD card says 10 gig not 16 gig.
If I look on the phones storage it says 16 gig still.
Is this something I have done wrong. Is this even possible? I havn't done any partitioning. Just followed the guides.
On a side note - the main reason to custom ROM my phone was so I could save full games and apps to the external SD but it appears I still cannot do this. Can someone advise the proper method in which I can save a complete game on the external card, effectively bypassing the google restrictions. apparently doing everything I have done is still not enough. All the apps I have installed to move files across from internal to external still only send the partial file, not the whole. My 16 gig will soon enough be full and my 64 gig SD card is a complete waste. I didn't buy it for videos and pictures but for games and apps...
thanks

The phone will show the total capacity of 16GB but you never get the full 16GB (around 14GB is actually available) Of that remaining storage which is partitioned is the OS and other files which takes it down to about 9 which is what you have for use.
Use folder mount for moving games to the sdcard.

16GB is the total space available. Some of this space is covered up by system, cache, recovery and other partitions. The PC just shows the data partition, which in most cases is something around 10GB in size.

For this you could use Link2SD, as the donate version gives you the possibility to move full apps to SD.
As a prerequisite you would have to format and partion your SD Card first, e.g. using MiniTool Partition Wizard.
Save all Data on your external SD. After this you have to create TWO primary partitions.
The fist hast to be
FAT32, Primary for all your stuff (Musik, Pictures, Downloads, Backups, ....)
EXT2, Primary (otherwise Link2SD can't create a mount point for the linked Apps
Have you done this an instered your card back into your M8, you open up Link2SD. It will on first run ask for root rights and of which kind your link partition is. Simply choose ext2. Link2SD will then search for the correct primary partition on your external SD and mount it. After this you can Link your Apps to the ext2 partition using Link2SD.
I see. I understand regarding the 10gig storage now. Phew I thought I had lost 6 gig through somehow.
I have installed folder mount and paired a game using source and destination and it moved the file across. I went to check my storage and my internal storage states 1.6gig and my external SD states 0bytes.
I believe this is correct as the phone thinks the internal storage is being used so it says 1.6gig however the files are all on the external.
so if this has worked, why do I need to partition as you mentioned? Has the 1.6gig file not actually moved across then as I have not partitioned it?
thanks
Should I be partitioning the External SD card correct. Not touching the internal?
Also I wouldn't have a clue how large the partitions should be. Is there a ball park figure for a 64 gig SD card considering most space I will use for apps and games rather than music/videos.
Thank you
Phew, didn't see that @gsmyth answered as well. Folder mount is of course a solution as well.
I'm using a 64GB external as well and partitioned it to an amount of 54GB (FAT32 for my music and stuff) and 10GB ext2, as an equivalent to my internal storage available for any data.
