I was able to delete files from MOTO G4 (see https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g4/help/xt1622-uk-sim-free-stock-firmware-oem-t3448913) and even move some apps there.
But seems like unable to do this on my sis new G5....anyone has done this or any ideas?

I recently got my phone swapped out VIA warrenty.
I was running AOKP on my old phone and copied via ADB all of my files from the internal storage to a folder on my PC.
When I got my new phone I ADB Pushed all the files back on the phone (after unlocking the bootloader) and installed the rom back up.
Unfortunately, my gallery is not picking up any pictures except for the ones I take with the phone, even though I see on my PC and Astro on the phone that the old pictures are there.
In addition, none of my custom notifications or ringtones or alarms are showing up in Android even though they are in the same place they were before, with the same rom.
I've tried many of the 'sdrescan' apps and nothing has worked.
I tried erasing the internal memory, and instead of transferiing the files VIA ADB I tried doing it VIA Windows Explorer (which took forever)
Nothing has worked
Please Help

After DAYS of trying, and many hard resets, I found a .nomedia file hidden on the root of the sdcard.......don't know how the hell I didn't notice it before. Still wondering how it got there...

Same thing is happening to me. The phone still will not recognize my internal storage ringtones and notifications though, even after removing the .nomedia file.
Hi, guys! I'm getting this error and I know I have installed many apps and flashing different ROMs makes me use the TB a lot.
So, there are apps that I no longer needed. I deleted it/unistalled then deleted it using TB. But, I read somewhere online that
the .odex files of each of those apps must be deleted as well because those are no longer needed since the apks are no longer
present/active inside our phone. THose are the ones that uses the storage space somehow.
So, my questions is... How can I deleted the odex files of all those apps I deleted, all at once? Do I need to remember each app I have deleted and
delete one by one? How exactly am I going to resolve this?
Hello everyone,
I've been trying several different roms and I found my free space dropped to 1.7 gb on the internal memory. Is there any way to make sure I get the original free space back? Like formatting the partition and flashing a Rom or something like that? I've tried wiping caches and such, but I still think I've lost like 3gb out of nowhere. Although I would like to know what the average free storage space is first.
Please help a total noob!
Thanx
I assume you haven't deleted the old roms off your phone?
If you plug it in via usb you can view the storage that way (in mac [android file transfer]/linux/win). Just delete any roms you're not using etc.
It seems that you need to erase your storage to get it back. When flashing rom we didn't do storage format, files and folder from old rom remain there. This folder could be your content like music and pictures, also some remaining app folder
If you use a Linux computer to delete files on your sdcard then check your sdcard for a .Trash directory (the name might be different, like .Trash-1000). Even though you thought you deleted some files they just got moved to .Trash and are still there taking up space. If you delete the .Trash directory it will really get rid of those files and give you more space.

You're totally right. I just deleted some old files from games I don't even have like FIFA.
I went snowboarding today and took tons of great pictures . I came home and tried to upload the files to my computer. At first I tried bluetooth but it didn't work for some reason. I then plugged in the USB cable and attempted to manually copy them. I couldn't find them on either my phone or my sd card. Furthermore, I saw a folder called "Blackberry" in triplicate on my sd card ( the card was in my old BB ) and I decided to erase it. It erased 2 copies and said it couldn't erase the third one. After that... poof, ALL media files are gone. Literally everything. Folders are intact but the files are all gone! On the phone, on the SD card, in every folder: camera, pictures, whatsapp, videos, you name it.. all gone!
I am running AOKP d2att 9.30.2012 with 4.1.
I was able to recover the files from the SD card with an undelete software, by putting the card in my old BB which exports it through UMS. But the S3 has no UMS option. I then spent the next 2h trying to get the S3 to export its internal storage through UMS and hoping I could undelete the files.
Isn't this just crazy ? Anyone had anything similar happen to them ? Do I have any other options at this point ?
P.S. Didn't have time to backup the new pics...
I made *some* progress.
I installed 'DiskDigger' app which was able to retrieve the deleted files from the external sd card ( which I was already able to do by mounting it in the BB and using a desktop app for undeleting ). DiskDigger also worked on the internal sdcard and it recovered about 500 deleted files, like really old files from months ago but NONE from the Camera folder or other folders which contained images/videos. They appear to be mostly files which were displayed in the browser, used by Facebook, etc.
I booted my device in CWM and ran e2fsck in adb shell without any luck.
Where could my files be ? Are they really deleted ? If so, why doesn't the 'undelete' software pick them up ? How can videos, camera photos, whatsapp images, pictures be gone in one instant ? This makes no sense at all!
Photos are usually stored in DCIM/Camera
I did a fresh install of 47A stock yesterday. I wiped everything, I wiped my entire internal storage and I deleted everything Android related from my 64GB MicroSD card. The only thing left on the card was a single folder for file storage, a TWRP backup, and a Titanium Backup folder.
Well, as soon as I booted into the ROM for the first time and started installing files, a folder called /Android/ immediately appeared on my 64GB card. It's got two folders /data/ and /media/ in it. Inside the /data/ folder are folders for almost every app I have installed since installing this ROM. Inside those folders are various other folders, depending on the app. Most of them are named 'files' or 'cache' or 'media' or generic stuff like that.
So does anyone know why this would happen and how I can prevent it? I didn't do anything to make this happen, this isn't something I set up. It just happens as soon as I install these apps, on a brand new clean install. (Worth mentioning, this clean install isn't the first time it's happened. This is just the first time I'm actually looking into it or trying to fix it.)
One of the strange things is, most of these folders don't have anything in them. Picking one at random, /extSD/Android/data/au.com.shiftyjelly.pocketcasts/files has nothing in it. I found one or two of these bottom level folders that have files in them. /extSD/Android/data/.com.google.android.music/files has a 36 byte file in it called "_playmusicid" for example. But the vast majority of the bottom level folders are just empty.
I've attached a screenshot showing what this /extSD/Android/data/ folder looks like. Seriously puzzled here.
Actually it seems like /.com.google.android.music/files/ might be the only file with any actual data in it...
