Fingerprint hardware not available! - Xperia Z5 Premium Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have unlock the bootloader a week ago and from that day I am facing that issue.....sometimes I don't know why it say fingerprint hardware not available then if I restart my phone it works perfectly for 2-3hours but afterthat I am still facing that issue???..

Part of DRM feature (Widevine). Since unlocking bootloader causes the fingerprint sensor to no longer work, I suggest you do some searching and delete the widevine files. (If you have root access that is)

How we do that?

Rename these files on /system/etc/firmware/
tzwidevine.b00 -> tzwidevine.b00.bak
tzwidevine.b01 -> tzwidevine.b01.bak
tzwidevine.b02 -> tzwidevine.b02.bak
tzwidevine.b03 -> tzwidevine.b03.bak
tzwidevine.mdt -> tzwidevine.mdt.bak

I tried this and my phone didn't boot. Maybe it doesn't work on new firmware.

What I have also change the permission of file like Rw-r--r--???

sorry to highjack your thread but..
Why would youtube cause this error? lol.. after a few video watching. it happens? what connections do they have.. its everytime.

Has to do with display features and Sony Widevine DRM limitation.

[Q] Lock Screen Options Blurred Out

Hello!!
I have a One M8 Developer Edition and I am trying to get s-off. I tried to turn off my lock screen options but they are greyed out. Is there a way to disable my lock screen temporarily?
Thank you for your help,
2103ehleec
Hello,
it seems like there is a Administrator active. Try disabling it: Settings -> Security -> Device Administrators. ( I saw you use Avast! and I think it might be his Admin whose blocking it.)
Also, it could be that the encryption is blocking it. Then you need to wipe data and need to start over.
greetz.

Avast! was the thing that was stopping me from disabling the password. Thank you!!

Can I use the finger print sensor to unlock without actually having it "locked"?

Can I use the finger print sensor to unlock without actually having it "locked"?
Sort of a weird question I suppose..
Basically at this point I have no need for a pin/pattern/password/fingerprint lock..
..but I'd love to be able to use the fingerprint sensor to wake/unlock the phone (like it does if I do have a fingerprint & pin setup.)
Is there some mod out there that allows this? I know people will think this is stupid because why not just use your fingerprint?
Well, if my phone is on my desk and I get a notification, I'd still like to just be able to tap it and open it without needing a pin.
Again, I don't care about that security right now.
Thanks!

Yes. Long way. But you can do it.
Setup pin or whatever security you want. Setup finger print unlock.
Make a nandroid back up in TWRP.
Reboot system.
Reboot TWRP again. Restore your backup.
Without rebooting, within TWRP go to Advanced - File Manager.
Navigate to data - system - find a file called locksetting.db.
Delete the file.
Reboot the phone to system.
Voila. Enjoy.

Help Needed: OP 5T - forgot screen lock pattern

Hi,
Somehow I managed to forget my screenlock pattern (freshly changed) on my OnePlus 5T and it seems like my enrolled fingerprints are useless now. I need some help to recover access to my phone (preferably without factory reset).
This is the current situation of my phone:
- Phone Rooted
- TWRP Custom Recovery
- USB Debugging enabled
- WiFi On/Data and GPS OFF
- Currently logged in with my google account on the phone, but can't access it over the google account (i kind of disabled history and other features in my google acc).
- Also "Unknown Sources" is enabled on my phone.
If there is any way to recover the password via ADB, or to unlock the Data, that would be just awesome...
Thanks for any help.

Hey Bud,
I had a similar issue when I restored a nandroid backup and the password had been glitched so that I couldn't sign into my phone anymore.
Anyways here's a shortened version of a solution I found here: https://forums.oneplus.com/threads/fix-wrong-pin-pattern-when-restoring-twrp-nandroid-backup.452384/
1. Boot into TWRP
2. Open the file manager inside of TWRP and delete (or rename - they get restored whenever the phone is booted so deleting them does no harm) the following files inside "/data/system":
-password.key
-pattern.key
-locksettings.db-wal
-locksettings.db-shm
-locksettings.db
(they might not all be there but whichever ones you can find, delete/rename)
3. Reboot your phone and you should no longer have any kind of pin/pattern on your lockscreen
4. Re-setup your password and don't forget it this time!
Hope this helps :good:

Hi, thanks.
I've been checking that post, but something didn't quite match. The following files are available on my phone ( /data/system):
-gatekeeper.password.key
-gatekeeper.pattern.key
-locksettings.db-shm
-locksettings.db
-locksettings.db-wal
So, as you can see, there are two files with the "gatekeeper" prefix. Are those two supposed to be also deleted (renamed)? Did you have them when you did your fix?
Thanks.

Hey man,
When I fixed my issue I didn't touch those - worst comes to worst just rename the files that were on the list I gave and leave the other 2. If it doesn't work then you can try renaming the files you found from my list as well as the two you have highlighted in red.
Give that a try

Just did the steps (including the gatekeeper. prefixed files) - I just renamed them, so I can revert back. Indeed I was able to get my phone unlocked, but everything is blank. Only a wallpaper, status bar and Nav Bar. No apps, no app drawer, nothing. I can access the Settings, but that doesn't help much... (except that I can set a new password).
Going in Settings -> Apps, shows me all the apps, which is good. But I can't see them on screen.
Also, the following are happening:
- Settings -> Apps -> Defaults: Nothing set up for "Home App". And there is a blank grey menu when I click on it.
- Settings -> Apps -> Application List -> OnePlus Launcher: clicking on Open By Default, crashes the Settings Menu.
Is it possible that I did something wrong here?

Possibly?
When I followed the method in the link in my previous post I had no issues - I just had to setup a new lock method.
It may have been the gatekeeper files - when I did this method previously I didn't touch those as I didn't know they were there
Do you have a backup from TWRP by any chance that you could restore?

Restored the gatekeeper files, but no success. Same behaviour. I have a backup, but is only a "initial backup" - sort of how the phone was at first. I was too dumb to do a backup after I set up everything.
It seems my only way now would be to do a factory reset and lose all data.
Unless there would be a way to recover the password from the database? I know is encrypted and salted, but that salt also has to be stored somewhere... maybe there would be a way to revert that hash into a pattern? grr, this is extremely frustrating.

I apologise for possibly making matters worse whilst trying to help but this is beyond my understanding of TWRP's capabilities
It might be worth restoring your previous backup even if it is blank and then setting up your phone again. During the setup choose an option that should be something like: "Restore from the cloud" which will allow google to restore most of your app data. However, your internal storage will be completely wiped . Once that's all good and setup then definitely make a backup - it's a good habit to get into and will save you a lot of hassle in future.
I don't know if there's anything else I can suggest you to do,
hope this doesn't take up too much time - I personally know how infuriating it is to spend hours on something when there's no easy solution. You'd be better starting from a clean flash of OOS.
Sorry, there's nothing else I can think of to help you out
Best of luck bud.

I'm grateful for your effort. It offered a solution. It just got more complicated than expected. Probably the last Oxygen update patched some security issues - which is not bad after all (it's just bad for me NOW).
Personal data is encrypted with the screen lock pattern, so your only choice is a factory reset

Fingerprint hardware not available

Suddenly My Pixel 3 XL fingerprint sensor stopped working and when I tried to unlock with fingerprint, a message says "fingerprint hardware not available" appears at lower bottom of lock screen. The phone does not unlock.
I tried flash without wipe the factory image (April Security patch image, removed -W), cleared the Dalvik cache (with TWRP) and cache (with an APP), still same issue.
Boot into safe mode still not working, I could start enroll a new finger, however, the enrollment will fail after last fingerprint touch. A message just said "cannnot finish add new fingerprint".
I can not also delete the two already enrolled fingerprints from the setting menu. After touch the "trash can" icon, the fingerprint just got gray out but comeback if I exit the settings activity.
I don't think the fingerprint sensor HW is at fault since it still response to fingerprint touch (at least in Safemode)...
Anyone has similar experience or a solution? (I haven't tried a full wipe yet...)
I am on stock April security patch. (rooted with Magisk 19, however, went back to stock boot.img doesn't help)
Note: I do not have Swift installed...
Thanks a lot!
I'd say a wipe is needed
Maybe something got corrupt that resides on the /data partition

I have same problem, see here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-3a/help/fingerprint-hardware-available-t3947280
it's not hardware issue, it's something in data partition that system treat like tampering and disable fingerprint.
Don't try to change Screen Lock, it will break lock completely.
I'm coming from phone without fingerprint so I can live without it if I had to.
If I find some solution I'll let you know.

how about /data/system and those lockscreen and fingerprint .db files ?
what happens if you delete those.

Tried that, after restart home screen showed up but it stuck in 'configuring Pixel...' message. I did uninstall before some apps like pixel setup and maybe if I didn't, it will complete. However, maybe it will just create new account. It might be worth to investigate with stock ROM without modifications except rooting. Anyway I have no access to another phone to test.
Before doing that, I have created another account on the phone and fingerprint was working fine on that account.

Encrypt device using lock screen password

How does it affect device encryption by enabling or disabling the 'Encrypt using lock screen password' option (in privacy settings)? What is opposite? What password is used for encryption if this turned off?
If this is enabled, then a password is required before running the android.
But when this option was not turned on, the menu showed "encrypted" anyway and the Terminal (termux), after entering 'getprop ro.crypto.state' and 'getprop ro.crypto.type' I received the message 'encrypted' and 'block'. So, the device was encrypt anyway (at least in theory).
The question is what changes the inclusion of this option and is it really worth?

The result will be that Android (and TWRP) will not start until you enter the lockscreen password. If you don't reboot your phone very often, then you may be able to live with the hassle (bootup will be much slower). And you'd better not forget the lockscreen password. But if the bootloader is unlocked, and/or TWRP is installed, nothing stops anyone from formatting the data partition and using the phone for their own purposes.
Does it give you any extra protection over standard encryption + fingerprint or lockscreen password? If your bootloader is locked, then maybe. Is it worth it? That is a matter of opinion - but I personally wouldn't bother with it. The greatest security risk lies in unlocking the bootloader. Once you unlock it, the phone itself is easy to commandeer, even if your data is safe because of encryption.

You mean 'using for their own purposes' with my data or after wiped? Anyway, I enabled this additional authentication. I don't have unlocked bootloader or TWRP. If the phone is turned off, then stranger can wipe (by holding power + volume up) and use it as its own.
I'm interested in what the difference in access to my data by a stranger is when the option is enabled or disabled. When enabled - I understand that when the bootloader is locked and there is no TWRP, the stranger can't access the device's data. When disabled - data supposedly encrypted, but is not the "default" password recoverable too easily?

Your data cannot exist after the data partition has been formatted. If your bootloader is locked, then you don't need to worry too much - just don't forget your lockscreen password.
As for standard encryption with default password, this enables TWRP to access the encrypted storage without asking for a password. This is what a lot of people expect (and demand). Some people who are very concerned about data security often prefer to have to enter a password, even to start TWRP. It is all down to individual taste.
