./packages/apps/CMParts/src/org/cyanogenmod/cmparts/input/ButtonSettings.java mentions lots and lots various settings, however only few are actually available on the phone. For example, disable_nav_keys or config_longPressOnHomeBehavior. What does control appearance of these settings? BoardConfig.mk? system.prop? Anything else? What is the format? Thanks.
Discovered a bit more. The actual aim was to make long press on "menu" to do screen split, found the action code 9 in
./frameworks/base/services/core/java/com/android/server/policy/PhoneWindowManager.java
and changed overlay/frameworks/base/core/res/res/values/config.xml as:
- <integer name="config_longPressOnAppSwitchBehavior">1</integer>
+ <integer name="config_longPressOnAppSwitchBehavior">9</integer>
Cool, I have split screen now. The next step was to make it configurable. My config did have 64 as a hardware buttons mask, which means only hardware volume buttons are present. I defined it as 71=1|2|4|0x40 (home, back, menu, volume) and now I see settings for home and menu buttons. But whatever I choose, it has no effect, the initial setting from config.xml is still active (in my case - 9 - screen split). How to make these settings really work?

I'm starting to get used to this new trackball (RollR), but it is definitely different than normal cursor pads on most devices.
It's OK outside of gameplay. I tried the new Raging Thunder racing game on my P3300, and while it plays just fine performance-wise, the RollR ball is much too sensitive to be used for this game.
I also find it a bit more difficult to scroll in PIE with the new trackball and outside clockwise/counterclockwise scroller.
How does everyone else feel about this new feature?
I feel like I could get used to it, but you dont need to use the mouse all the time. Does anyone know of a way to attach the mouse toggle program to a hardware button.
for me at the beggining the feel was not very good but when i used to it i think now is a very good suprise.i can do all the works just in one hand very easy even serfing internet
another thing that is excellent for me is the wifi connecting distance.now i can go also to my second floor of my apartment and have internet connection
without a problem and this is something i could not do with my qtek 9000
so far i,m very happy for the device.
*my english is not very good hope you understand me

I'm definitely getting used to it after almost a week. Game playing is still a challenge with the sensitivity of this ball compared to a regular pad, though.

Thanks for the suggestion, but is there any way to skip that screen where you have to make an extra click. Its no so much a deal when activating the mouse, only when trying to turn it off.
What do you guys think of the scroll ring, or whatever the chrome part is called?
I really like using it to scroll through all of the messages in my inbox, or when browsing web pages, but it doesn't always work as expected. Some times it scrolls smoothly, and other times it jumps to the next link. Anybody figured this out?
If you go into HKLM\Software\HTC\HTCCPL\Applet8 you can change the value of CmdLine to SETMOUSEMODE and the icon in the cpl will start and stop with one press.

great my friend thanks a lot for that.....
now can you tell me how can we change the size of the cursor and put a smaller one?
To Dinario
I'am using it for 2 days and I agree with you. I don't find the wheel very useful and in fact I only use track ball with is more convenient with its 4 directions.
According to me, the wheel is only design for big jumps, and the trackball is more efficient for small jumps. But maybe in a few days we will take full control of this alien

I did that instead :
- I Created a shortcut "mousemode.lnk" into \windows\start\programs (for my french one it is "\windows\menu demarrer\programmes")
- I edited the shortcut mousemode.lnk as below : "\windows\mousemode.exe" SETMOUSEMODE
Now, I can quickly activate/deactivate the mouse mode by cliking the icon, and I still can edit the mouse settings in the control panel.
I can activate it with one click of the icon, but how do i do the same by clicking a hardware button. I've went into settings/buttons and assigned a key, but when i press it only takes you to the config page where you have check enable.
Has anyone any ideas please?
Thanks,
BPP
I hate exactly the same problem, if someone can help. Thanks

You must write inside the register
HKLM-software-microsoft-shell-keys
i.e. 40c1 then ab(default)
["\Windows\MouseMode.exe" SETMOUSEMODE] without the []
What registry program is used to do this?

Anyone knows how i can set rollr sensibility in "d-pad mode"?
does anybody know how to disable rollr on HTC P3300 by registry trick? I have some problems with it - sometimes it becomes mad and starts to scrolling the screen even when I am not touching it. It is absolutely impossible for me. Any help appreciated.
I thought I should share how I make use of the ring and the ball.
The wheel basically moves the highlighting position up and down on the screen (there is no left and right movement). When the mouse cursor is enabled, pressing the ball will mean pressing the location where the mouse pointer is pointing (not where highlighted). Hence, I am using a button-mapping software (AEBPlus) to get the benefits of both world:
- OK button becomes "enter"
- long pressing OK button becomes "close application"
- right softkey button becomes "move cursor to right"
- left softkey button becomes "move cursor to left"
- media key single press becomes left softkey
- comm manager key single press becomes right softkey
And, I have the mouse cursor always enabled. Generally moving the highlighting position by the wheel is easier than the mouse.
Hence, with this setup, I use the wheel most of the time to move the highlighting position to where I want and then I press the OK button to select it. When typing text, I use the right/left button to move around the typing position for editing, deletion, etc. I will use the mouse to point to those location where highlight can't go to, for instance, the input pad, or those icons at the top task bar ...
Therefore, it is now almost one-handed operation and I hardly need the stylus.
Cursor colours?
Anyone know how to change the colour/size of the arrow?
Is there a way to get the system to not add the menu button to various google programs? I'm running AOKP and I've got the menu button added to the navbar. Consequently, I want to get rid of it in the apps. Also, I would like the menu to pop up at the bottom and not the top. I would think this would be highly desired. What am I missing?
the menu inside the applications is built into the app itself. you wont be able to remove it unless you decompile the APK's and remove the menu yourself
I thought that the program used a signal from the system to determine if it has a menu button and uses that to determine the need for it. Does the Galaxy S III still get this button in apps like the play store and gmail? I don't know, but I would think not.
So from my research, it seems that the "overflow menu", as it is now called, only appears in the "action bar" when there is no menu button present on the device. For legacy devices that run ICS, it seems that android will detect that a menu button is present and not show the "overflow menu".
So basically, I'm wondering how I can trick the Galaxy Nexus into thinking there is a menu button present. This really should be an option for current roms as lots of people add the menu button to the navbar.
You have to hide the navbar to get what you want. When I use LMT and disable the navbar, the action button in all apps no longer appears. There is some api that tells the action bar menu to appear or not just like you want.

What is LMT?
From my searchings, that seems to be what I've found. there is a methods called "hasPermanentMenuKey()" to return true this requires that there not be a navbar. Unfortunately, this kinda kills things as the whole point of hiding it was because I had a menu key in my navbar.
Thanks so much for the helpful reply!!!
If you look at the screenshot of Dolphin browser there is a black bar with 3 dots on it.
I'm not sure what made it appear, but its functionality is:
1) open settings for some applications (dolphin, golauncher).
2) not do anything for some applications even though it shows up.
3) annoys the crap out of me because I want it gone. It blocks a big amount of screen.
I don't know what caused it to appear, I've never seen it before. I was updating my phone and installing some applications when I suddenly noticed it.
Edit:
Attachment is not showing up for me so here's an upload on tinypic: http://i50.tinypic.com/equt75.png
That's the 3-dot menu button.
Go to Settings - Display, gestures & buttons - Recent apps button
and pick either Press for menu, press and hold for recent apps
or Press for recent apps, press and hold for menu
I personally use the second one, long press the recent apps button will bring up the menu

You'll see it in apps that haven't been optimised for ICS (or higher) yet. On phones without a hardware menu key, correctly coded apps will display an overflow button somewhere on their action bar to access the menu. Apps which haven't been coded in this way need some other method of accessing the menu - phones with on-screen buttons (like the nexus range) display a menu button beside the other buttons, we obviously can't do that so HTC chose to stick a massive menu bar across the bottom of the screen. As already pointed out you can reassign the menu function to the 'recent apps' key which will hide the menu bar, or you can pester the devs of those apps to do things properly in future.
Oh my god. Thanks guys!
I looked everywhere but couldn't fix it!

I made the following suggestions. Post yours too. So that its sparks better ideas for the coming Emotion UI 2.0.
Fixes:
- A fix for the profile changer app. There is supposed to be five default profiles built into it but only four shows up, with the car profile being missing. When a new profile is created with the name "Car", it shows up as already used. Hence this needs to be fixed.
- Fix for keypad. On the browser, the address bar also functions as a search bar. The problem is that when one starts to type into that bar, the keypad automatically switches the "space" key to ".com" key, and hence there is no space key option available. Now the space is alternatively available if i was to switch to the numbers key pad section, but i would actually want the space key on the mainpad itself as it is a frequently used key for an internet search. Maybe give the ".com" key the same swipe down function as space key or vice versa.
- Fix for ME widget. The problem is that if i was to reduce the number of widgets that are packed into that widget box, the size of the box does not reduce. So lets say i want to use only the 1x2 size weather widget while removed the rest of the widgets. But what happens is that the widget still takes up the whole big original space and leads to un-usable space on the home screen. The space cannot be used for other widgets or apps. So basically now i am having to search for third party apps to use as a weather/world clock widget. Neither can i use that small music player widget as a stand alone.
- Fix for email widget (not the gmail widget) allows only emails of one email ID (that too the email ID added first) to show up on the email widget. While within the app there is a feature for combined viewing of all mails from all the different email ID's. So this same combined view option should be available for the widget too.
Changes/Additions:
- Make the navigation bar opaque glassy color throughout the system. At present it remains opaque only on the home screen, while turns grey everywhere else. And there is a lot of complains about this grey color.
- Allow scroll option for the bottom tray so that more number of apps can be located there.
- Allow the swipe down gesture on any part of the home screen to bring down the notification panel. At present one has to extend finger all over to the top to bring it down which is laborious when using with one hand. By allowing swipe down anywhere on home screen, this can be solved.
- Regarding the navigation bar hide option. At present this is done by an additional small arrow at the left end of the navigation bar. To me that is a constrictive and inconsistent. I would say that they make the "back/return" key of the navigation bar itself for this purpose by letting the long press of the back key to initiate the hiding of the navigation bar.
- The Huawei ascend Mate got an additional option of "suspend button" but this is not present in the Ascend P6. I would say that this shortcut feature should be added to the P6 too, but rather than have an annoying dot/point on the screen and the problem of having it move about often to prevent it from blocking the screen, the long press of the multitask navigation key should instead be used for activating the shortcut menu. Also the theme of this shortcut should be much improved and great looking with included option of customization. Also there needs to be the toggle options, power off/ restart/ screen turnoff, etc controls, included in this shortcut. The app available on google play called "Toucher Pro" can be seen as an example of design and features.
- Allowing the creation of folders within folders or other options that would allow users who want to have an app drawer, the ability to use and feel the folder as an app drawer itself.
- Option for the lock screen to allow the guest login mode.
- Knock knock phone awaken feature or the active display feature.
- Lock screen should have more detailed notification/message/calls reading option.
- Option to search and download theme from the theme app itself, and of course releasing more themes in a consistent period of time and allowing other users to advertise their themes and make it available for all users. There should be some organized space for public creative development of themes by users.
- More Huawei exclusive live widgets and floating apps.

Good u have given all the super suggestions of which i could thought. Hope EMUI 2.0 comes fast.
Better weather widget with more animations and addition of night....
I have sent the following more:
Additions/Changes:
1) Add timer option for the EMUI Huawei Lock screen.
2) Allow vibration turn off/on option for the unlocking of lock screen. At present the vibration is enabled and cannot be disabled.
3) Allow timer option for switching profiles.
4) The incoming call screen ID picture should be bigger in size.
Fixes:
1) Grey navigation bar stays over third party apps even when third party apps ask for full screen.
2) Screen light abruptly changes at random even if the back light wasn't in auto detect mode. In fact, at times even when the screen light is kept in auto mode, it later abruptly switches to other modes and does not remain in auto mode.
3) The wifi automatically turns off under weak connectivity, even though this battery saving option was disabled.
4) When the permission manager is made to block any app, a notification popups every time the app functions. Maybe a separate section should be created within the permission manager, that mentions all apps that have some of their access blocked rather than through a popup.

More issues:
Fix battery calibration :
The battery % at times become inconsistent, sometimes not charging beyong 90 or 95%, sometimes jumping to 100 after long time on 95. Also when using battery it jumps from below 10% to 4% etc.
Fix Browser:**
1) when using quick controls of the default browser, the top browser control bar that was supposed to be hidden instead gets distorted by appearing as black or some broken image of the website visited.
2) when using the translate option on long press, it goes to google china rather than google english.
Wallpaper controls:
When applying a picture from gallery as wallpaper, the option to apply it as scrollable wallpaper does not exist. The scrollable wallpaper option exists only for the preloaded wallpapers in system.
Some more really important**suggestions
Quick shortcut bar:
A quickshort cut panel that triggers by swiping up the multitask icon. Design: The panel should be 3/4 the height of the screen so that it does not make the thumb stretch too much for single hand users. The apps to pin to quick panel should be left to users to decide. The apps should be properly spaced in stacks such that one quickly memorizes the distance to swipe to trigger each app. So for example, if one pins a screen turn off/lock screen app on bottom of the stacked panel, a mere small swipe from multitask key to just above the navigation bar would trigger the screen to turn off. This design of shortcut to my knowledge would be the quickest and simplest shortcut taking swipe to its best use. Bring it first on Huawei.
Power manger upgrade:
At present there are 3 modes of power manger. Normal, smart and endurance. Although the smart mode conserves battery yet its not used by many as it disconnects the internet when screen locked. To make up for these users, there should a fourth option for those users who want to receive their chat messages or email notifications. They dont want as power hungry as games yet not as low as to be disconnected from internet.
Power manager combined with profile switch toggle:
Setting the power plan for different profiles would also be a great advancement. One could hence then switch their power plan with profile rotation key. So for example, one could switch to chat profile or game profile.
Smart minimizing of video & music:
There is a video minimizing feature on the ascend mate that allows one to watch video in minimized form while multitasking. This feature should be on the Ascend p6 but with certain advances. It should function with swipes similar to the new youtube mobile app. A swipe down/up from video or music play should minimize it to a small screen and then swipe left if one needs to close it or swipe back up/down to maximize it.
Switching browser windows:
Allow the Huawei browser to switch between different opened browser windows by a swipe left or right from the very ends of the screen. The trigger/hotspot being on the ends like an ubuntu side bar being opened but in this case, switching windows.
Other small changes/adds:
- On the default Huawei browser, the long press on text does not contain the "select all" option. Only the copy, share, translate and search option exists.
- There should be a unique sound or led notification to know the battery is full/completely charged.

Hi, I found you can activate softkeys on any stock rom by modify the build.prop value below
- Need root and use BuildProp Editor to edit
- Searh for words: qemu.hw.mainkeys=1 and change 1 to 0 it activates the softkeys.
- Save the changed and Reboot, your hardware key will still working as well
- The softkeys function is same to the hardware keys you can long press for screenshot, turn on camera etc
I don't know how to turn off the hardware key yet, if anyone know you can share it.
You can disable the hardware button in Settings/Accessibility/Virtual Button Control.
Just thought I'd add a little tidbit to this topic that I found after a dropped my LePro3 and lost home and back hardware key function. With the app Handy Soft Keys I now have (as the name suggests) really handy software keys. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ca.yesoft.handysoftkeys&hl=sv (There's an ad-free pro version available as well). No root required. I don't think it has the full functionality of the hardware buttons with long press, but I just needed the basic ones and if that's what someone else needs as well, well, it's there.
And by the way, if you don't want to go through settings etc hardware keys can be turned on/off easily by pressing power and volume up at at the same time.
