Led notification light not working - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S8+ Questions & Answers

Tried *#0*# and the light is working so the led is not defective, it just doesn't light up like normal whether charging it otherwise. Has anything to do with the latest update?

Do you have Light Flow installed? There's several threads about the LEAD light stop working and the general consensus is Light Flow breaks it. A quick search should yield you plenty of information.

Someone posted that the regular cs file fixed this when flashed. Not the cs home file.

That's weird. Not sure what effect the CSC file would have on the LED, other than that would wipe the device.

[Q] Notification light...blinks ONCE?!

Um...is the notification light supposed to blink only once? Cuz mine does and I find that pretty stupid since I'm not going to be staring at my phone 24/7. Basically defeats the purpose of having a notification light. I see an online review where the power button is supposed to light up (and again mine doesn't) as notification. Is that true? The manual doesn't say specifically... If so, I'll need to get mine fixed. Thanks.
At&t's version the power button lights up. Sprint's version- its the notification light by the top speaker, and it blinks green once every 30 seconds.
Definitely a flaw with this phone. Hopefully eventually we'll be able to fix that with a custom ROM

Oic ....I didn't test it longer before to see that it blinks every 30s. But yeah that's a huge flaw and I can't believe I haven't read that in reviews. I actually called LG tech to inquire and the rep didn't really know what she was talking about because she 1) said all smartphones work like that (I corrected her on the AT&T version; she obviously did not know her own products) and 2) lamented that she has to turn on her phone also for notifications too (frankly I don't care). Her reponses were a bit amusing lol. I asked if there is a fix coming soon and she said "nope". And in the beginning, I asked if the notification supposed to blink only once and she said yes (no..it's every 30s).
I'm going to be rooting my phone (for the first time!) and hopefully there'll be a custom ROM that'll solve this.
There's a few apps in the play store that are supposed to be able to modify it. I only tinkered with two and had no luck. But you could look there and if one works report back here.

I have been dealing with the same issue. I want my light to blink every few seconds. I do not want to stare at my phone for 30 seconds just to know if i got a notification. I am running Lifeless rom and tried Lightflow. It works with camera LED but does not work with the light by the speaker.

On the bright side, at least you guys (most likely) can get all sorts of fancy colors on your LED once it is sorted out.
From what I hear the AT&T model is stuck with red in B.F.E.
I just tried the light flow app and u can control the led blink rates. Bad thing is u can only use red and green led.
update: light flow just started FCing like crazy. uninstall

Blink rate control doesn't seem to be effective on my device, camera led will blink tho

LED notification stopped working

Hey guys
My Note 2 has been working perfectly so far but today,I realized that the LED indicator didn't light up when I was charging it. It also didn't light up for missed calls/SMS/Email and basically everything.
I don't know what just happened but it doesn't seem to work :/
Any ideas ?

Try and go into setting=>display=>led indicator and see whether the notification light is on. It might also be a rom specific problem so, what rom are you using? Stock or custom?

I have the same problem.. With Light Flow and even with Light Manager...
But I think this happens on 4.1.2 Firmwares because on 4.1.1 it worked perfectly.

Why did Samsung put no LED Settings like Light Flow or whatever in the system?? This Stock LED Settings are horrible!
Cyanogenmod has the best LED Settings!
Sorry for the late reply guys but I kinda solved his problem
"Viber" was causing it and by uninstalling it,the LED notification works perfectly. It's odd but it works lol
hi guys,
mine go on for no reason... zero notification (sms, mail, all programs off with a task killer) and LED still go on...
Any idee why?
(edit) resolved problems with Quick glance but it's ok now

I know this is an old thread, but I ran into this problem recently. Easy to fix, at least on the short term as I just did it. I am running cleanrom ace 4.7 (4.1.2) and today my charging/notification led stopped working. I decided to reboot to wipe the cache and dalvik cache, and when it was rebooting the led lit up blue, so I knew it wasn't likely to be a hardware issue. Well, that didn't fix it, but going to system settings -> display -> led indicator showed that the proper options were set. After toggling them off and back on, they started working again. I don't know what broke it, but hopefully this will stick. Hope this helps someone in a similar situation.
The notification led works olny if the screen from the phone close by him shelf and no manually with the power button
Test it guys
Old thread Old issue but still we're experiencing it. I just realized now that my LED is not working on any ROM, any Kernel, tried different LED apps but with no go. Is it possible that the hardware (LED) itself gone bad?
i try *#0*# test led and no led, try lot program and no led.....???

Notification LED working?

Hi, so I've had my P6 for over a week now and I assumed that it didn't have LED notifications for missed calls/SMS etc. But a few other people here have confirmed that the LED definitely flashes to notify you. My phone only seems to use the LED to show the battery charge state when it's charging. Can anyone else confirm that the LED works for notifications and how you enable it!?
I've got the P6-U06 international version running B111. I didn't have any LED notifications on B106 or B107 either.
I'm running apex launcher but can't see why that would make a difference. I can't find any setting relating to the LED in any of the settings menus either.
Any help would be great

I read on on a forum (can't remember where) that there is a bug regarding led notifications. If you link to a Google account when initially setting up the phone the led notifications don't work, so the advice is to skip linking to a Google account at initial setup screens and then add your Google account from the Settings>Accounts later.
Hope this makes sense, I did exactly this and my notification led has always worked as it should.

Ah, well we did enter our Google account when setting the phone up. I guess the only way to do it would be to do a factory reset and start again but skip the Google account bit.
Thanks for that. I'll give it a try

Nope, only green & red I'm afraid. It's a shame really. When the phone is charging it also shows a yellow(ish) colour but i've been unable to reproduce it by selecting yellow for the notification in apps that allow it (Whatsapp, Aqua mail etc.)
I've also downloaded a few apps that allow you to customise the colour of the notification LED just to see if I can make it a different colour, but only ever get red & green. I think it must be limited by the ROM - maybe the Huawei devs will allow changes in future updates, but i won't hold my breath!
It can only produce red/yellow/green, such a pity it cant produce blue
Yes, I'm thinking the LED may be a dual-LED with red & green, then using both red & green together to make yellow. That may be all we can get.

[Q] Q: Controlling the LED with PhoneAlarm or Lightflow or some other app

I've used PhoneAlarm from PocketMax since 2007 and LightFlow for years as well, and was always able to get one or the other to control the LED on whatever phone I was using. But I have messed around with both apps on my new HTC One M8, and can't get either one to function properly.
I think I've really only seen the phone's LED generate two colors--green and amber. Is it possible those are the only two colors it is capable of? I find that hard to believe.
I see warnings and special modes and things in the LightFlow configuration options for HTC phones, indicating that HTC phones are different, but nothing I try gets me any other colors.
I'd settle for being able to have just a few different colors for missed calls, missed texts,, etc.
Anyone know of a way to get either of the apps above controlling the LEDs, or have a different app that --IS-- working to control the LEDs with this phone?
Thanks!

Thanks. I was talking about just the main, front LED. I'll have to check out FlashMe. Thanks for the tip!
Edit: So after taking a look at FlashMe, it appears that app does, in fact, just control the camera's flash. I'm trying to use the phone's main LED to see the status of things. So, for example, if I've been away from my phone, or if it is on silent, and I have a missed call, I might see the light blinking red, and similarly it might blink purple for an unread text message.
I'm trying to figure this out as well. Have you found any app that works so far, Andyw2100? Or are we just stuck with green and Amber?

I posted in another thread that I have LightFlow working, I'm pretty sure I included the details of my configuration, which differed slightly from someone else's who also said it was working for him.
Light Flow, when running the LED test, can actually generate three colors - green, amber, and red--but the notification options can't make use of the red. So for now it's still limited to two.
Also, since posting, I've discovered that from time to time, probably due to the bug that others mentioned, the LED will just stop working completely. The "fix" I have found is to uninstall and reinstall Light Flow. As long as the settings are backed up, this isn't that big a deal, but it's not a great situation, of course.
I've written to the Light Flow developer, but apparently he is away on vacation for a while. I'll write again when he returns.

Light flow

Has anyone figured out to get light flow to overwrite the settings for the notification light in settings? It seems like my settings from both are working.

How do you set Light flow? On my phone it doesn't work (Oxygen 3.2.0)
Root
by rooting the op3.. i dont know about the unrooted phone.
For me, even with root and playing around with the LED settings, no luck.. I cant get it working unfortunately. The fancy stock colors the OP3 shows (especially for google+ or tapatalk) are dont even make sense to me.

Confirmed! You just need to get used to the colors, but it is working, thanks for this!
I use Light Manager. A little simpler than light flow and works perfectly fine on my OP3.
My light flow (pro) is working fine. Got snapchat glowing yellow whatsapp green and charging light set to red. Seems to be working fine.

I'm using this combination as well, and it's working.. sort of. When my screen is off, the notification light constantly cycles through all the available colors, just like when you run the test and have to turn the screen off.. only permanent. Not sure why it's happening, never had this issue w/ any previous devices. I did restore my data from previous install, but I've gone through all the settings and checked/unchecked at some point and it's still happening. Thoughts/

I talked with the developer.. It seems that is an Oxygen OS related issue.. He told me that also the s7 edge was having that issue and it was fixed by Samsung with a software update.. On Oxygen I read also some people that has problem with stock led control.. Then probably there is something buggy on our system..
I didn't try any other led app however.. Did you?

Oh that's good to know, thx for sharing. I haven't tried any other app yet, I just disabled LightFlow for now since the constant cycling has to chew up extra battery when the screen is off. I'm also still on 3.1.3, going to upgrade to 3.1.2 and see if that helps.
