My battery started acting up, it eventually died completely and the phone only works when plugged in. For some reason, during the boot, it made a complete factory reset.
I had SD card encryption turned on and now cannot access any of my files on it. I can see that they are there, but the decryption key got deleted during the factory reset.
Is there a way/tool to get them back/decrypt them? I'm running stock Marshmallow ROM.

So earlier, i wanted to format my SD card again and clear off some junk, so I moved everything to my computer and tried formatting with Settings>Storage Erase. However, that just hung up for a long time, so I booted into recovery and formatted the SD card from there.
That went fine, so I mounted the SD card in recovery and copied back my files. But when I restarted, my phone just goes to the bootloader menu. I cant boot back into the ROM anymore; only recovery / bootloader.
Did I mess something up? I do have a nandroid backup, but its a little old.
Thanks
EDIT: Also, when I choose Power Down from the bootloader, it brings the bootloader back up. I think I have to take the battery out if I actually, want it to stay off.
Ok, I need some help. I had my phone rooted and had CWMR installed. I installed a custom rom and everything was working great. However, I needed my my sd card for flashing a nook color. So I removed the SD card, copied all the files to my pc, then used the sd to succsesfully flash the nook. I then deleted all the old files from the sd card and recopied the old. I put the sd card back in the phone and powered it on. Now, I'm stuck on the lock screen and the screen just keeps turning on and off. The all buttons and the touch screen are unresponsive. What have I done and how do I get this fixed? If I try to call my phone it goes stright to vm. HEEEELP!!!
Have you tried re-formatting the SD card ?
Tried formatting just now. didn't work. Then i tried flashing through odin, now i have a yellow triangle when i turn the phone on....getting worse by the minute...
Have you tried taking the damn card out?
If you flashed a bootable disk image to that card I'm pretty sure you need the HP format tool (I think it was HP) to format it normally again. I could be wrong, but, I do know that I had a special tool to reformat my SDcard when I flashed a bootable disk image to boot my nook.
That yellow triangle doesn't necessarily mean anything bad, so, chill out. Take the card out and lets take it from there.
Also, if something in your /data was what caused your phone to be hosed and you did an ODIN flash but didn't do a factory reset (or "Calkulins format all" zip is perfect for this) you would have the same problem no matter how many things you flashed to /system.
Hi I recently encrypted my phone and SD card.
Everything worked fine until i connected it to my mac and was using Kies to copy a folder over to the SD card. It was a i.39 GB folder, while copying the phone suddenly restarted and when it resytarts its usualy asks for password to unencrypt the device and SD card.
While adding the password which was the correct one as i used it before, it kept asking me to try again as if the password was wrong. I tried it many times and in the end after 10 tries the phone erased all the data and restarted with factory reset.
The prtoblem is now all my images, pics, videos are all loked...i can see them but cannot open any tfile which was on the SD card.
is there a way i can unencrypt it...Please help!!!!
Hello. I had my phone sitting by me, when I noticed it was stuck on the samsung boot screen. I figured no biggie, just reboot. But NO matter what I did it wouldn't get past. I booted into TWRP, only to find that it couldn't mount anything on the internal SD card and it said there was no OS. I then went to install a rom from my external SD card, and it was blank too. I had a few roms and other files on it.
I don't know how this could have happened. Could anyone give some insight? The rom I was, and will be going back to, is Blissrom.
My phone restarted itself yesterday and went into a continuous boot loop. I figured out that I could get the phone to restart if I removed the card. I need to get the stuff off the card and then format it so that I can re-use it in the phone. I purchased a micro sd card reader and plugged it into my windows 10 machine. It tells me that the card must be formatted before it can be used as it does not contain a recognizable file system.
Does anyone have any ideas on how/if I can get the stuff off the card? The phone will boot into bootloader with the card inserted so there may be a way to transfer the stuff to a computer that way??
It is a stock un-rooted phone and the sd card is formatted as internal memory.
Thanks. Any help would be so greatly appreciated.
as internal storage, the card can only by read from the phone itself, which means you have to somehow get into twrp.
I'm not rooted so I suppose that means I'm screwed?
rooting process does not need functional Android system start, besides you can always go to fastboot and do a
fastboot boot recovery.bin
which boots with twrp temporarily.
Same here!
I'm stock, unrooted and today (over night) the phone sucked off 50% the battery. When I tried to start it, it froze till i realized that it's an issue with the SD-Card. I did absolutely nothing before going to sleep and the SD-Card was always the internal memory. I can start the phone without the SD-Card an plug it in...it will be detected, but you can't even format it back to portable in the phone. And the phone without the data it needs to work properly is now useless - looks like a factory reset + throwing away the SD! DAMN!

I just ended up formatting my SD card in the computer, having the phone forget the SD card, putting the SD card in and formatting it in the phone. SD card Works. Obviously you lose everything on the card but I did not have to do a factory reset of the phone or did I have to discard the SD card.

nice to hear!
My SD is dead. PC won't format it, Laptop and Actioncam either. Maybe because it had a failure when I tried to format it in the phone while it had those strange issues.
Who knows?!
