Is it possible to disable system logging on stock ROM without root? Anyone tried to do this?
I'm talking about "wlan_logs" directory on /sdcard. Logs inside eats a lot of internal memory and they are still growing over time.

From what I've read Android pretty much looks after itself but just wondering if there's any system maintainance that should be done from time to time? (i.e is defraging the SD card OK? Any other things worth doing?)
I've stuck with the stock 2.21 ROM but after installing JIT/Deodexed, debloating, overclocking, and scaleing the phone is running along sweetly. Thing is, about 2 1/2gigs of my 16G card is taken up with various System Recovery backups and I've got .apk files in various places. Can the .apks all be put into the same directory and if so where? I've backed the goaprev folder up to my PC and was going to delete all but the last backup from the phone. Basically, I don't want to do anything stupid now the phones nicely sorted out! Thanks in advance.
Since the seeking time on flash memory is so close to instant that fragmentation does not cause any noticable delays, I see no reason to defragment internal memory or my microSD card.
Furthermore, defragmenting a flash disk/drive, a device with a limited amount of writes, may actually shorten its life-span. In that sense, it may actually be a bad idea.
Backing up is always a good recommendation, when working with any electronic system
Thanks. Any idea if it's ok to move the .apk files? (Could be my OCD but I like things tidy!!) Also, wondering what the situation with ota system updates now I've hacked the phone?...leave well alone or okay? Cheers.
Move apk files - from where to where? Out of /system/app? You could move apks you are certain of you will never need, but the only thing you will gain is - at most - a few megabytes of free space. There's no real performance gain to be had, that I've experienced, just the possibility of losing hair if you remove/rename something you need.
As for OTA updates, you can rename FOTA.apk - that's the package that takes care of those updates.
Got several .apks in the root of my sd card- quite happy to leave them there, I guess and I should avoid ota updates...also is it worth clearing out caches once in a while? Just looking to keep my phone as streamlined and snappy as pos without screwing anything up! I'm new to android so still learning the ropes ! Thanks again
Ah yes, apk files are just installation files. You can move them where-ever you wish, though I would not move them to internal storage.
I do not clear out cache, as I prefer features I use regularly, to be cached already, instead of having to load them from scratch. I have not noticed any performance degradation because of it.
And since I do not share my phone with others, there is no privacy issue to speak of. I do not mind sharing my browsing/twitter/market/auto-complete behaviour with myself.

yes read above thread for which application is safe to remove, but as per title of thread
if you are doing this to make space then note, these applications stores in System ROM and making free space on system ROM, you can not use that space to replace other user application.
many ppl removing this (bloatware) to enhance performance by preventing them to run in background, though it is also debate whether really how much this help. b''coz android itself have some function to keep process running in background to recall it fast. so if you remove bloatware, that will be replaced by other application till android feel RAM if full, and same time android will autokill background process to make more free space available.
Since your device is root, use Directory Bind to put big data from internal to SD. For instance, i use it for Wild Blood, saving up to 2Gb of internal space. The game take only a longer time to launch.
Instead of deleting apps and risking seeing my device brick, i use the Android 4.1 freeze option, i think it's safer to use it, you can't freeze needed system apps.
Deleting apps is not as useful as doing it with other phones since there is around 780Mb of free system space. To free internal memory, with Titanium you can move apps from internal to system.
If you use Instagram a lot, move Instagram pictures from /storage/sdcard0/Pictures to sd card. Setup the camera to write to SD card.
Ofcourse you can use this space? What prevents you from making regular user apps to system apps?
I would suggest freezing apps first with Titanium, then after several days, if nothing happens, you can remove them. I used to do this all the time on my DHD and do it for a few apps on my N7.
after installing a 4.3 rom (hurricane) my note 2 got the ability to move apps to the sdcard, unfortunately it's not optional.
it's unstable and causes freezes or crashes whenever I install an app or move it to my phone.
I'd like to ignore it, but whenever I install or update a large app it ends up on my memory card.
does anyone know of a way to completely kill this "feature"?
the old "PM setinstalllocation" command does nothing, apps related to this are horribly outdated, and google only provides info about enabling or using this feature.
I am running the latest CM nightly. The system states that I am out of memory. When I go into Settings > Storage and refresh, it shows several GB available. I can't install any more apps. I deleted all of the apps I know longer use. I had about 600 pictures in my gallery. Since I sync with Dropbox and Google+, I deleted all of those as well. I changed my email retention from 7 days to 3. I cleared the app data of all apps.
Still getting this strange problem. I looked and there were a ton of strange log files in /data/system. They were RS_01.log, RS_02.log, etc, all the way to RS_90.log. Each log file was about 910 bytes. I deleted all of them in root explorer and rebooted. Same problem.
I can factory reset and reinstall CM, but want to see if there is a fix first. Found online people saying to dial *#9900# and deleting a log file, but dialing that number does not open a menu. Might be due to the fact that I have a later bootloader (M2), or that I am running CM.
Ideas?
Give lucky patcher a try. There's an option to odex system files which frees up int storage

I can't install any apps. Android is throwing an error, not enough system space to install whenever I try to install anything. This has to be some sort of runaway log. I found references to dumpstate logs causing this problem, but they are all in /data/log. I don't have that directory on CM11. Not sure where to look.
I found solution..
Go into your time tool box and set apps to sd to auto. having it set on ext sd messed ours up too. Easy fix for us. Hope it helps.
Trying to set custom boot and shutdown animation but it seems I've only got 32Mb left on the system partition. How can I overcome this problem?

I hate to be obvious; but clearly you need to find out which apps have consumed your storage space. Some likely suspects include Kindle, Audible and Zedge. And then you need to do some serious file backup and/or deletion.

I'm fairly positive that apps that I've downloaded and installed reside on the internal sdcard but the system partition is separate to it. I beleive this to be true because although I have only got 32MB space on the system partition, I can still install a game like Super Stickman Golf 2 without any problems. I do not have an external sdcard installed on my device.
If the above is correct, I still need this question answered, thanks for your input though.
