Hi!
Second question on my new device. When I change the brightness of my P2, the colour in the settings changes from clear grey to greenish grey and back again. For example at 13% everything looks great but at 15% it ist greenish... Anybody else with that behaviour?
Cheers,
MoWe
To me it appears yellowish tinge of the screen as the samoled screen generally has bad whites
The only solution will be a kernel supporting color modification of the rgb matrix of the screen as i was told by a senior member here who p2 also

Resurrection Remix has color controls in display settings, I got rid of the yellow tinge with 95% red and green.
I'm Waiting for a stable room that deserves rooting with a custom kernel as the stock is perfect and stable
hotspot and led notifications are important for me also battery backup

Yeah, that`s my opinion right now as well. I never thought, I would enjoy a manufacturer skin that much as a former Nexus User.
If there weren't the missing USB Audio and the Tint it would be nearly perfect for me!
Let's hope for Updates in the future!

Red if really awful (it's actually bright orange) and screen seems to have a greenish-blue tint.
PS: what are the values of Red, Green, Blue colours that had to be set to get close-to-true colours (by using kernel adiutor for example)?

Thank you! But I can't flash any custom kernels as I am using sultan's ROM.
So, to calibrate the colors using 'Live display ' of cm , do I have to calculate the "percentages" of values of R, G and B corresponding to the values that are there in your screenshots?

KCAL as far as I know, can only be used to correct saturation and the white point of the display. OnePlus will need to recalibrate the display like they did in the OnePlus 3 latest OTA in order to correct color accuracy.
I'd really like this to be done on the OPX as well. Is there any way to contact OnePlus about this?
My reds seem just fine to me...maybe it differs from device to device? I bought mine 2 months ago, maybe before the panel was different? My screen colors seem very good (I confirmed with another person and he also said the reds were normal)

You can only notice the difference when you compare the screen side by side with a phone that has an almost 100% sRGB calibrated display, like the Nexus 5X.

I was replying to the user who said it looked bright orange instead of red. We can see that without comparing with another device in my opinion(at least he didn't mention he was comparing with another device). If we want to check if it's perfectly calibrated yeah, then comparing with nexus 5x will show the difference(since it's supposed to have one of the best screens from what I read on reviews)

He may be having some other issue with his display. By itself, it looks fine. It looks bright orangish red only when compared to the Nexus 5X.
Hi guys, I just bought the G3 international and I love it, awesome device. But I'm really disappointed with the display. Yes, the 2k resolution is amazing and I find the color reproduction OK, but the problem is there's literally no black, it's blue instead. I know it's not amoled, but I expected some sort of black from an LG ex-flagship device, instead of the blue of chinese low end devices. I don't see anybody talking about this, wich is weird to me given that it was a flagship device, and the issue is really noticeable. It bothers me a lot. So here's my question, is there any way to calibrate the screen so I can make the "black" less blue and more like actual black? Like using kcal or something similar? The built in settings do nothing.
Thanks a lot!

Do you have your device rooted? If so, you can try kcal by yourself. I'm not sure if I wanna root it for now.
Without rooting, I don't know of a way to do this. If you do decide to root and unlock bootloader, if you flash a custom kernel, some have support for the type of display calibration you want, through an app called "Kernel Adiutor". Besides this, I'm not aware of a way to do that.

If you're coming from an AMOLED device it might be difficult for you to get used to G3's LCD, the things you can do if you're rooted is change saturation, contrast, dispaly value, hue and color calibration but it won't make black look like if the screen is off like in AMOLED. Although, you say that black reproduction is more like blue... maybe you got a faulty screen mine doesn't look like that just like a dark gray...

You tried opening an image of solid black color on fullscreen with brightness more than 50%? I'd be OK with dark gray, but on my device it's really blue.

Yep at 100% and it looks more like gray than blue, but maybe our color perspective is different. You can try with another LCD display like a TV at 100% brightness and compare them to see if the black looks the same

I also have a Moto G 2015 and on which the black looks dark gray. I didn't like Moto's display at first but when I compare it to the G3's display I like it better in terms of black reproduction(while far from displaying black, it's closer to black than blue). So I assume it's not my eyes' fault, maybe I have a faulty display. I rooted the device and installed cm13. I'm gonna play with kcal app a bit.

s-RGB mode is great, except for the white balance, it's a tad too warm/yellow.
Want to share my screen settings, I personally love AMOLED colors but I hate yellowish tint, so I tuned it up a bit to get cold white:
1. Install Kernel Adiutor.
2. Go to Screen section.
3. Red 205, Green 225, Blue 256 (default).
4. Save.
That's it. Keep in mind that this is completely personal choice.

sRGB is supposed to be like that, though. I also find the warmer screen easier on the eyes in bed.

Problem with that is really each screen is different, whereas the sRGB calibration is the same for every display, as far as I know.
I only use the sRGB mode as i hate oversaturated colours and always prefer colour accuracy in all circumstances. As mentioned above the colour temp is a bit off, but overall the sRGB mode is the lesser of all evils. Is it just me or do the colours pop a little more in sRGB since the Nougat update? Before the update i felt the colours were a little under-saturated but i'm happy with it now.
How people can live with the disgusting neon AMOLED colour space is beyond me.
Screen is a downgrade. Very strong yellowish tint. Not happy at all.
I use Official RR and there is option for screen color in %. What to do for it ? How to Calibrate it ? Thanks in andvance.

yes screen color saturation is a failure when we recognize it and also we saw some yellowish
SRGB is a bit yellow anyway.

For everyone using sRGB just modify rgb values and set green to 248 and red to 249. You'll love it
Would it be weird to say I like the saturation of the default colors
Me too. I like stock. One day when i will root the device maybe i will change but i like very much default colours
One of the best 1080p AMOLED displays that I've used. Of course, it isn't as impressive as the QHD Samsung panels though not really far off. The whites on my display seem good to my eyes. I can easily notice the yellowish warm whites on AMOLED screens but I don't seem to notice anything like that on my unit. My unit luckily has good whites (not too warm/cold) and no pink or green tint.
Though I've been an AMOLED fan for years, this my first phone with an AMOLED display. The colors do seem a bit too saturated at times but it is a gorgeous display. The sRGB mode is nice for when you need color accuracy but it is just too washed out for my taste.
Only real "defect" in this display is the purple ghosting effect which can be observed while scrolling grey elements on black backgrounds in low brightness but this issue is inherent to AMOLED and I've seen it on all AMOLED devices I've laid my eyes on.

Both kernels supports color control and works the same so either can produce accurate colors, you just need to know the proper color values settings
here's the best profile by far:
saturation intensity = 33
screen value = 127
screen contrast = 121
let me know if it's good.

I didn't notice it until i compared it to my old lenovo a7000 lcd panel
Have you turned on night mode?
If so that's probably why you're seeing the yellow tint.
Moreover, in vibrant now I find the screen to be cooler than normal mode. The screen does have a slight, very slight warm tone in normal mode, it's factory setting.
However if you wish to change the colour you'll have to use a kernal that supports changing colours

The screen on the P2 will look very yellow if you compare it next to other screens. I have 4 phones and the P2 is absolutely most yellow/warm of them all. In "vibrant" it's cooler but then colors gets way oversaturated and look blown and it looks bad.
My advice is just use it for a couple of days and your eyes will adjust to it and not think about it and start to look white.
There's not much we can do about it until a custom kernel arrives that lets us change the white balance. If we ever get one that is. I don't like the yellow tint either but I can get used to it after a few days of usage.
i can clearly see that the white of this phone is much much more warm and yellowish respecting others phones with lcf, but also a galaxy note 4 ( amoled) of one of my friends.
i can't understand why lenovo made this calibration. Of course maybe using it as primary phone you will not notice it after some days, but at the moment it is my secondary phone and every time i switch from lcd to p2's amoled i can clearly see that the white ruins all the colors....into an image.
ps: maybe OVER 50% of brightness the white starts to be "ok..." but under 50... 40% it is not a nice white

but does it interfere with the PURE BLACK? i noticed that there are apps that can "fix" the temperature of the color by adding a LAYER on the screen....
but this layer corrupts the true black.... no more really black but with a tint of blue or yellow ( blue if you try to make colder, yellof if warmer)
i hope you made a real test about it, use the app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gombosdev.displaytester and visualize the BLACK color.
if it is not 100% off the display..... the live display option of your rom is not acceptable

Nup,,black are true blacks(pure black pixels get off),,almoled display does not have pure white they are warm(yellowish)i had set it to cool color (blue)which makes the screen look little white than yellow,,i will compare display with samsung device and check,,buh black are still pure black no yellowish or white tint on black
Sorry for bad English

but did u test? because some tricks to change the temperature of the displays.... are to add a "layer" of color.... and this makes NO MORE TRUE BLACKS on amoled diplays....
Yes,there is noticable difference in white the stock ROM now looks a little yellow but the stock deodexed version has the cool white colour which looks far more beeter that yellowish tint
I have not so idea for the reason behind that may be Lenovo has recalibrated the screen if you want to change the tint you can try various apps that requires root to calibrate screen Colors manually
i found the problem !!!
go in the live display and at the colour calibration menu.
JUST set the green color to 92% and the white will be PERFECT
i noticed tha tis ONLY THE GREEN that destroys the white.... just lowering it to 95 gives a normal warmish white... setting to 90 it is like a normal lcd cold white ... at 92 it is perfect between a warm and cold yellow, the perfect sweet spot.
now i am FINALLY HAPPY with my screen.... and the white written on all the app themed with black substratum, are finally well constrasted with the black..... being pure white
