LG G3 D855 32GB - V30B Rooting - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok Guys, I dont know whether this is the correct place to ask this question.
I lost some important pictures (the DCIM folder suddenly got deleted). I wanted to recover and I installed this software that is asking for root permission to scan deeper for images.
That being said, I want to root my phone and I tired all apps including kingroot, iroot and oneClick root without any success. What can I do?
Model: LG G3 D855 - 32GB
OS: Marshmallow 6.0
Kernal: 3.4.0
Software Version: V30b SEA-XX
Security Patch Level: 2016-08-01

You must flash older kdz file. Firmwares with 08+ can't be rooted

Try to flash a custom recovery like TWRP. then from twrp flash supersu. That's all you need. The tough part is install twrp

will it wipe my internal memory?

Yes it will if you flash it with LGUP. Not 100% sure but I think there is a option in LGUP to not wipe storage

hey thanks for all the replies. If it wipes internal memory, my purpose is defeated. Are you sure that there is no other way?

If he is to downgrade to lollipop using the upgrade method, it will likely cause many errors on startup due to non-backwards compatibility of many system settings files (or something)

LGUP - NEW!!! - INSTALL KDZ - MM or LP - FACTORY RESET/UPGRADE

NEW software!!!!!...... LGUP WILL FLASH YOUR KDZ files
Download LGUP from here http://www.filedropper.com/g4 or here https://www.dropbox.com/s/d2dw48uqh4hku8m/G4.rar?dl=0 or here http://oceanhost.eu/eps4h4pmwphu/LGUP.zip.htm thank you hyelton for this link :good:
Install LGUP_8994_DLL_Ver_0_0_3_23 first and then LGUP_Install_Ver_1_14_3
Make sure you have downloaded the required KDZ file MM or LP
Start LGUP prog on your computer "make sure your phone is plugged in"
ARE YOU HAVING TROUBLE WITH LGUP NOT SEEING YOUR MOBILE?
Try this....... take the back off your mobile so you can get at the battery. Connect your mobile via USB. Start LGUP, if it does not see your phone DO NOT DISCONECT, DO NOT RESTART OR TURN OFF LGUP. Take out the battery and then put it back in.......let the phone restart on its own. LGUP should now see it.
THANK YOU FOR THIS Killerdog:good: <~~~To Modify This File You Must Have Root!!
For me it's show in LGUP as unknow device.
reboot my phone, remove battery and anything else don't work.
I install LG Bridge to test, and nothing seem to work.
After make some test and search, i find some info modified by S3V3N into his rom (cust partition) that he have modify into this file:
/cust/OPEN_COM/cust_OPEN_EU.prop
Code:
ro.lge.swversion=[COLOR="Red"]some info[/COLOR]
ro.lge.swversion_short=[COLOR="Red"]some info[/COLOR]
change to
Code:
ro.lge.swversion=[COLOR="Red"]H81510c[/COLOR]
ro.lge.swversion_short=[COLOR="Red"]V10c[/COLOR]
restart my phone and woow it show correctly in LGUP and i can refurbish my phone.
TO UPGRADE TO MM from LP - make sure BIN file is ticked and in the File Path point it towards the MM KDZ you have downloaded. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE CLICKED UPGRADE! This will update you from LP to MM with out wiping any of your info. Press Start. Make cup of tea and be patient
TO DO A FULL WIPE AND INSTALL MM - Open the LGUP on your computer. FILE PATH point it towards the MM KDZ.
IMPORTANT!!!!!!! shut down LGUP!
Now open LGUP again - you will notice that the MM KDZ will still be showing in the FILE PATH section. Select REFURBISH and make sure BIN file is ticked. Press Start. Make cup of tea and be patient
TO GO BACK TO LP FROM MM - Open LGUP on your computer, click on FILE PATH and point it towards your LP KDZ. Close LGUP and re-open LGUP. Make sure you select REFURBISH this will do a full wipe, tick BIN file. Press Start. Make cup of tea and be patient
If you are worried about losing your data after a full wipe, why not use the LG Bridge software to backup and restore.... it works fine!
YOU WILL LOSE ROOT!
There is no need to enter download mode! LGUP will do it for you.

INSTALL TWRP
Make sure you have ADB and Fastboot installed.
I always put TWRP.img in the ADB folder - so if I want to boot into TWRP with out installing it this is what I do:
make sure you open a command prompt in the ADB folder "VERY IMPORTANT" and type:
adb reboot bootloader <enter>
fastboot boot TWRP.img <whatever your TWRP image is called in your ADB folder><enter> dont forget the .img at the end
That will re-start your phone straight into TWRP - You can transfer files to and from your computer while in recovery.
If you want to install TWRP permanently, copy your TWRP image to your mobile "while you are in TWRP RECOVERY mode" then press install then select images then select recovery NOT BOOT then swipe to flash. This method does not install TWRP app on your phone, all you need is a reboot app from the play store that will re-boot you into recovery.

Not sure but I'll put that in the op cheers.
Do you need root so use this method to upgrade to marshmallow ?
H81520A_00.Kdz flashed (by upgrade option) succesfully. It takes 10-15 mins(longest part is "android upgrading" screen.), and i lost root access. By the way root access is not necessary for upgrade.
So since it wasn't clarified, I'll be the one to ask...
Will this work on a unit without root (which is yes according to the OP), and without a bootloader unlock, ie the Taiwan (TWN) variant of the H815.
I completely understand it's a complete wipe and root will not be retained.
I would also like to know about this..... will it work on a unit with a locked bootloader... TWN variant?
downloaded from a different mirror re flashed no problems

Hi
I reverted to Lollipop from MM on my G3. If you are rooted and have TWRP installed you need to use TWRP to reset the phone, system, cache etc and SD card (internal) and then use Flash Tool 2014 and
Whichever .kdz you want depending on your region. I used d85520h.

Root it first on marshmallow, install custom recovery and then just flash whatever ROM you'd like. Or use the Flash tool method as recommended

Perhaps you'd get more information and answers if you detailed what diagnostic steps you have taken, and then post in the G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting forum.

Root the phone, format then flash stock ROM you downloaded onto the external SD. But, why would you want to. I think 6.0 is the Windows 7 of Android. If you have that you will be in the loop with incremental updates rather than being stuck with what the ROM has.

[HELP ]Autorec Bricked my G3 d855. All i want is to recover the files(pictures etc)

So i had my phone rooted and TWRP installed with AutoRec several months ago and phone was working normally. Today i clicked the button to install TWRP in AutoRec app, don't ask me why but i did. The result is the phone(LG G3 d855) is now completely dead, no sign of life.
Right now i'm not really worried about recovering my phone, but i am completely worried about recovering my personal files out of it: camera pictures, Whatsapp pictures and data and everything else i can.
How can i recover my files???
Ok I wont ask "why" but...the title should be: "pebkac, I bricked my device"
Just flash the same kdz via flash tool in normal mode or if you´re using lgup flash as upgrade.
As long as you avoid CSE mode and REFURBISH mode you are fine
It wont touch your files(internal memory and sd) - which are images, downloaded files etc, don´t worry.
You say you have had TWRP installed previous have you made any backups recently? If so you could reflash the phone & get it back to the point where you have TWRP installed & then restore the backup. I've just sold my D855 so can't do any testing for you unfortunately. Did you have an external SD card installed? Have you checked to see if photo's were stored there? Also have you checked to see if photo's were backed up to your Google account or do you know you didn't have this setup? If you make sure you've got the latest LG mobile drivers installed then remove the battery & put it back in to ensure its it's not powered then with the volume up button pressed plug the phone into your PC. The phone should enter download mode, I don't think this will give you access to the internal memory as a drive but it's worth a try. I made all sorts of mistakes messing with custom ROMs while I had this phone so if I can think of anything else I did that might help I'll let you know.

Great to know my files are safe, can you point me to a tutorial?
How do i know what is the correct KDZ?
When i first installed TWRP(phone was empty, brand new) i made a recommended backup but i don't remember what it was.
I do not use SD Card or Cloud Backup, everything is in the internal memory.

Yes, Lollipop(not sure what lollipop version exactly) and Autorec from Playstore. It is a d855P made in Brazil.
Is this tutorial correct?

Thank You!

You can flash the 20a or whatever the most recent for your variant is (not marshmallow)
See the thread by hyleton "lg g3 back to stock", you can use lgup and flash the kdz using upgrade option OR lg flash tool 2014 using normal mode.
Both ways will NOT touch your files and you will have them back.
Just tried with the tutorial you mentioned. KDZ method, flash tool normal mode, 20c rom.
It it did not work. Here is a full description of what happened:

There is boarddiag but you have to open the device(actually very easy, I had to do it once). There are also videos regarding it. I would only push aboot, laf and no other files for that matter(the tutorial will say to flash all files but it you want the data then don't flash all). After you are finished just reflash the phone with the similiar version of firmware you had earlier.

1. Backup your important files and make sure you have enough charge.
2. Download this to the INTERNAL storage of your phone (not the external as card): http://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/development/stock-h815-20g-images-kdz-flashable-t3450503
3. Boot into TWRP recovery. (Use the quick boot app from the play store if you're having trouble). If asked if you want to restore to factory settings, select yes.
4. Flash the downloaded zip file. Be patient as it will take a long time. Don't pull the battery.

Your IMEI number is written on the back of the phone, under the battery. Write it into the box on this website: http://www.imeipro.info/check_lg.html
The third line tells you your phone's model. Mine is H815, for example.
Then search XDA/Google for Kdz file.
Failing that, use the LGUP tool to restore your phone. You're not the first to have this problem and everything has been answered before if you search for it.

is there any way to get into twrp recovery while in bootloop?

[H930] New Pie build V30q with Sep 1, 2019 security patch is here!

Running this build since last weekend and is fire.
I can confirm performance(like RAM management) and smoothness are improved, the overlaping notifications is fixed as well and even LG's terrible gesture navigation implementation seems refined (I recommend using FluidNG to have back gestures as a complement). Battery is fine tho
Please don't try using OTA if you're rooted.
If you are already on PIE V30B rooted IS EASIER to Backup you data, Restore the provided TWRP v30q BACKUP, then RESTORE your data and root . Latest stock version and all your data intact.

TWRP RESTORE ALTERNATIVE
Requirements
Unlocked bootloader and working TWRP.
Steps to install
1. Download the .zip file and unzip it in your desktop.
2. Cut the extracted folder to V30+\Internal Memory\TWRP\BACKUPS\LGH930XXXXXXX folder, which store TWRP's backups.
3. Reboot device in TWRP and restore 2019-09-09--PieV30q_PKQ1190414001 backup, all partitions are fine and will not mess your IMEI/carrier signal.
4. This backup is already pre-rooted(just in boot.img so you have to reflash Magisk after wiping data), dmverity-encryption off and rct disabled. A full wipe is recommended.
5. Reboot to system and that's it, you are running latest and finest stock Pie :good:

Just a reminder: You cannot use a OTA file if TWRP is installed, the bootloader can be unlocked, but you must have stock recovery for this to work. Refurbishing V30b is advisable.

Hey thanks for the procedure.
can you please make a system dump? It'll be useful for los16 with pie blob development?
Congrats to the five V30 users who will get this update.
Can I flash .kdz file with "Upgrade" (NOT Refurbish) option without losing any data? Cause I can't begin an update (the FOTA EASY UPGRADE shows for few seconds and disappearing with no results). Of course I'm working with V30b-EUR-XX version.
error comes out "windows cannot find WPDAPI.exe make sure you typed the name correctly, and try again" and press ok then new error comes out "0x2000, fail. mtp is not running." I can't update, please help me.

You'll be able to when KDZ is released.
This is for people who want to run leaked, beta -- possibly buggy -- firmware. Yes, some people want that. If your wish to experiment, then that's fine as long as you realize it's not necessary to get this update...
When it's ready LG will release it officially and there will be full image KDZ available in the KDZ thread, as well as TWRP flashable zip made by an XDA Dev.

Buggy or not. I'm already using 30b. I have a chance to do it and I want to. Don't write me if you won't help me.

You can flash H930v30b via upgrade, yes. Then send the OTA via LGUP.
Are you rooted?

WPDAPI.exe is a file provided in LGUP zip in OP, you have to patch the files in LGUP directory for this to work.

1) I'll write what I want in reply to anyone I want. It's not just for you, it's cautionary tale for anyone. Just make sure you know the risks.
2) EU H930 V30b has long been official. There's a full image KDZ and XDA Dev made TWRP flashable zip in MY KDZ thread -- so your statement makes no sense.
So what if you're running official publicly released firmware? What you're now trying to install is not officially public release firmware (yet, and no absolute guarantees it will be).

I used V30b by KDZ install and it was as buggy as the v30b OTA that I had used for a while too.
This V30q it's a huge improvement over the old version and I can say it with sure, because I have tested all these.
BTW, it's not beta anymore(is in internal test phase), they are just delaying the release with bussiness bureaucracy.

Please don't try using OTA if you're rooted.
If you are already on PIE V30B rooted you have to Backup you data, Restore the provided TWRP v30q BACKUP, then RESTORE your data and root. Latest version and all your data intact.
