The Chinese manufacturer made its name famous with its very first phone and now the upgraded successor arrived, which again offers good value.
Introduction, Specs
It would be an exaggeration to say that Vernee is a manufacturer with a history. In the one-and-a-half year since their start, they put 6 models on the market. The first was the predecessor of our test subject, the Thor. We also introduced the Apollo X of the three-membered Apollo series, and the Mars is also a well-made device.
In the Mod edit sales link removed, which was presented during this year’s MWC in Barcelona, many of the flaws of its predecessor were corrected. The fingerprint-scanner operates with an amazing accuracy and the notification LED is not left out this time. There were no hardware changes made, however, battery time was significantly improved. A
high-capacity battery was squeezed in, and the operating software is the brand new Nougat system.
The facelifted deity arrived in a less elegant white box. It looked better in black, but of course the main interest is not box, but what is inside of it.
After opening the package, we can immediately see the phone wrapped in a paper bag. Below it are the accessories: we receive a 2 ampere charger, which is capable of fast-recharging, a SIM needle, a USB 2.0 cord, and some reading materiel. The protective foil is already applied to the display.
Appearance, Display
There is nothing revolutionary appearance-wise; it is more angular than its predecessor, so it looks manlier maybe. With its 144 x 70,1 x 8,2 millimetre size, it is not impossible to use it with only one hand. The device weighs 149 grams theoretically, which I found too light, so I measured it, and turns out that its weigh is actually 165 grams. Such is life: according to fashion magazines the majority of women lie about their weigh, which is understandable; but in the case of a mobile phone, is it needed? Quality of the materials and the manufacturing is perfectly alright.
No changes were done to the display either; it is the same 5 inch, 1280×20 resolution In-Cell IPS display with 294 ppi pixel-density as in its predecessor. As before, this can be adjusted with MiraVision. Viewing arches are alright too, colours don’t become inverted, and there can be no complaints filed against the maximum brightness either, so by and large the quality of the display is convincing. There is no information about the protection of this 2.5D display.
Above the display, the colourful notification LED can be found, along with the brightness and distance sensor, the speech-speaker and the front camera. Below in the middle, there is the Home button (without backlight) and the two dots with the ’menu’ and ’back’ functions. We can use of course the virtual-keyboard, but this takes place from the display.

Hello.
I have installed "Digital Compass_v4.1.3.apk" (Digital Compass from the Store).
This apk works well onto the 2017-05-24 firmware.
Unfortunately, after the last full OTA update (2017-06-15) it does not work anymore.

Good rom?
Is there any good rom for this phone? I find the original VOS pretty buggy and I can't live without network speed. Kind regrets for changing my oneplus one.
Thanks guys !
Alternativ os
I use the Amigo 4.0 OS. Which is quick stable and fully working. It was ported from Gionee s6s. Works better than the original software. Thanks to the people Who did the porting.

Sorry but not allowed for me now to give external links. I am too new on XDA. You will find it yourself when you ask Google for Vernee Thor E Amigo 4.0 4pda.ru . Sorry that are the restrictions from XDA not mine. Or alternatively send a PM to [email protected]
Flash with TWRP. Install Open Camera from Playstore made the camera app from the Amigo OS work. Flash Dolby ATMOS from XDA gives some additional features.
Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
Will the compass work again with Amigo 4.0?
Compass
I could not see any compass actions in any old rom. The compass sensor seemed to be available in the elder Roms but never worked in any app. Actually the fingerprint doesnt start in Amigo. I ve flashed Amigo over an old THOR E Rom. Should be proven with a newer. But I am so satisfied with the performance of Amigo, that i wouldn t go back.
the figerprint sensor works well on the amigo os? i have read some reports that dotn work well on the amigo... thanks for your help
Fingerprint
No, as I wrote, the fingerprint doesn't work. But I don't need it really much. These days I've made a full backup. And I will try to use the different Thor E ROMs with Amigo Os. Maybe there are some differences. Amigo could be a good base for porting other roms to Thor E. Let's give em a try.
Why this phone has no custom rom like Lineage oreo? no devs? not interesting? not enough sold in the world?
Should we think that we will never have custom rom?

And the 2000 mAh battery supports a long-lasting charge to get more out of your phone. R819 also has dual SIM card support so you can use two numbers at once and get more use out of just one device.
The R819 is outfitted with an f/2.0 aperture 8 megapixel Sony Exmor BSI back facing camera for great shots in low light conditions.

Yep a mid-range device not a flagship sequel. It's been available in China as the R819T so no surprises really. That said not changing the name is a poor decision as its hardly memorable.
Dual SIM is nice as is stock Android option and I suppose it's a bit thinner. Personally I'd be happy with a bit more depth if it meant a bigger battery. Aside from that it's pretty average fare. Not sure how having both cameras doing 1080p video when the storage is an unexpandable 16gb. Hope buyers have a good internet speed and limit to get them to the cloud. Or like very regular backups to another storage space.
Personally was hoping for a successor to the F5 which then could be dropped in price a little to attract more buyers. Then again not everyone wants a 5 inch 1080 display.
Sent from my Find 5
XDA TV video today will be the unboxing of it. I compare it to an S2, when I used it a few weeks back it was decent. Something that's great for mom and dad.
My folks are still bamboozled by a Nokia 3210!

Sorry and tanks for your help.
I receive mine yesterday (well it is for my wife but whatever).
I am pretty disappointed by the Color Rom, it seems to be pretty buggy.
Example :
- No french language ...
- I install Swiftkey yesterday, worked fine, doesn't work anymore after a reboot ... (cannot choose swiftkey in input method)
- Widgets of new apps do not appear in the widget list (google calendar, weather widget, ...)
Last thing is the official vanilla android rom is nowhere to be seen ...Ok the device is just out, I guess we have to wait.
On the other hand, build quality is very good and the device great.

Pour le français il faut que tu installe la version AOSP. Vas jeter un coup d’œil sur le forum oppo.

En plus elle est moins buggé, j'ai pu configurer mon compte exchange alors qu'avec la color rom c'était impossible.

Hello! I bought jiayu s2 from aliexpress. There are 2 problems.
1)Download speed is around 2-5 mbps. But with the same sim card (same mobile company), my old mobile mtk 6589 phone general mobile discovery (Gionee Elife E3) gets 5-13 mbps.Jiayu s2 is nearly % 50-60 slower than may old mobile phone.Upload speed is also low.
2) The time setting menu doesnt respond to my touch?I cant set the time.
What should I do? Do you recommend me to install android 4.4.2?
I received my Chuwi Hi12 over a week ago from China and have completed my full review video of the tablet as well as some hands-on videos featuring more gaming and first impressions.
Mod edit: video links removed (commercial advertisement not allowed)
Specs:
Atom X5 Z8300 1.84 Ghz max turbo boost
4GB DDDR3 Ram (single channel)
64GB eMMC drive
Winidows 10 (Dual boot Android / Windows model coming soon)
12" Samsung 2160 x 1440 PLS display (Same display as the Surface Pro 3)
Two full USB ports, one USB 3.0 and the other USB 2.0
Wireless N, BT 4.0 and WiDi
11,000 mAh Battery
Pros:
Cheap considering the premium screen it has
Nice sharp screen for a 12" tablet
Decent build with a metal unibody
Full sized USB 3 port can power 1TB and 2TB drives without power issues
Great battery life for a large tablet
Performance is good for an Atom Z8300
Cons:
No kickstand
Heavy at 850 grams
No keyboard on launch
Audio has minior static (speakers and 3.5mm jack when no sound is played or between sounds)

dear chris,
I would like to share an information I got from chuwi staff about dual boot version.
They told me that the dual boot version will be the same hardware as actual hi 12, but it can't be upgraded by users: only chuwi staff could do that.
Does it seems right, in your opinion?
thanks
ps they told that android software is testing at the moment and they hope to realease next month.
Does anyone know if and where I could find Hi12's ROM?

Dear Paolo,
I really appreciated your review and I subscribed your youtube channel. Good job!
I have some questions:
1) what serial number is your machine? Chuwi told me on official forum that any dual boot tablet, which has serial higher than 03XXX (included 03) is dual boot and stylus. In your review you didn't said that your tablet supports stylus. Did you find something about that in windows settings?
2) What is holding me to buying it, is a concern about bios chip that could fry if tablet is used while charging. That could be only related to previous single Os version. Are you concerned about that? Did you try using it while charging? Did you get any problem?
3) how long to get full charg while turned off? how long while using it?
4) last question. did you reinstall windows and android or used just as it arrived from seller?
thanks!!
pcexpertblog said:
Hello Alessandro. Thank you very much!
1. My serial number is something like 451604XXXXX. Chuwi's Team told me that they sent me the dual boot version (the stylus is not available at the moment). Could you link the post where chuwi has officially replied to your question?
2. Sincerely I didn't heard about that problem. I installed all the windows 10 updates (more than 30 mins) while charging the tablet. So I think that my sample (SN: 451604XXXXX) is not afflicted by that problem.
3. Full charge with tablet turned off: approximately 5h30m (official charger 5V/3A).
Full charge while using the tablet: I didn't try but usually it takes double the time.
4. No, I didn't try to reinstall windows and android.
Best
Paolo

Phh 8.1 GSI is fully functional minus the camera you will also need to set a custom width to make the screen not super tiny or use my edited one below.
Phh 9.0 GSI works but with a few bugs primarily Bluetooth and camera. But also it has a wonky navbar and notification pulldown but those 2 are aosp bugs
I have edited the v25 phh 8.1 gsi and added ro.sf.lcd_density=320 to the build.prop which makes it so the screen isn't super zoomed in. I will work on doing something similar to vendor in the future so its persistent over all gsi's.

I have gotten twrp working on this device, currently, decryption is not supported due to the limited space on the recovery partition. But the keyboard and stylus do work in recovery.

Thanks for doing this, hope to see how other ROMs function. Can you also test a Pie GSI?
Thanks for this, I'm considering getting this tablet. Could you possibly do a video review? There hasn't been a good one in YouTube yet.
I'm going to assume that you are the only one doing any development with this tablet? Which is fine either way, it just let's me know once I get my tablet, how long the wait will be or expect for custom ROMs. Thanks again.

I don't plan on doing a review or anything i got it to do development on it. GSI's are working on it, i am planning on getting a device specific rom up and running soon. Working with the hi9 air and hi9 pro devs to see if we can make something that is compatible on all 3.
Thanks for the update. Can't wait to see all what you come up with!!
I asked them directly about buying the keyboard case separately.
It's not listed on their official Aliexpress store so you have to buy 35 units of "Extra Shipping"
https://www.aliexpress.com/store/pr...l?spm=2114.12010615.8148356.55.63bb4c05f2hzru
And tell them you want a keyboard case.
Oh and thanks for TWRP.
Anyone that hasn't flashed anything yet, can you tell me the current security patch level?
I could swear that I saw June, but after flashing the rom provided by Chuwi it's at February.
Also it seems far more sluggish than it was before flashing.

Yeah the firmware they provided is older, the one shipped on the device was june i have asked for updated firmware and was told they are working on it.
Oh good I'm not crazy.
I don't suppose you have a backup of the current one?

No sadly, i am in the same boat i assumed the firmware would match what was shipped so i didn't grab one.
Let's hope someone else out there reads this before they flash.
Or Chuwi releases whatever is current.
NA
GSI is apparently doing some amazing work and possibly working around the clock. It's crazy to see that there is a partially working 9.0 rom( or lastest Android version) so soon after device release!
For anyone interested, I found the keyboard for 17 dollars, however the pen still like 27 dollars no matter where you go.

The problem about the pen is that you can use the tablet for 2-3 years maybe, nut if you lost the pen is very pobrable that you won't find it online after just 6 month, if it is not a chuwi standard (and as far as I can see it's NOT a standard).
BTW I have problems checking out the keyboard site, are you sure it's a sure online shop?
Thank you!

I just try and everyting was ok, but $9 shipping fees are pretty high. Grandtotal is ok anyhow due to the very discounted price. This is another addon that you might buy as soon as you can since it's already hard to find.
The rablet is sold at nice price by [email protected] and you can buy the pen as addon for €17 (maybe $20, but you save A LOT on shipping fees!!!)

It's just a normal Wacom active pen, I tried out my Lenovo one and that worked properly on it.
Bought a Meizu 16T during black friday day for $282 at Meizu Online Store on Aliexpress. The phone arrived today.
First impression:
+ It feels really light and comfortable in the hand (183g), Its made of plastic which I prefer over glass.
+ As usual on phones from Meizu the build quality is great.
+ Nice notchless design. Got the purple version which I like a lot.
+ The screen is big and vibrant. I really like the 18.6 aspect ratio. Wider than most other phones which is great when reading. Hate super-tall phones.
+ Most phones from meizu are a bit laggy (due to poor software optimization) but this phone feels really fast.
- No global firmware yet which is a big problem. I am on Flyme 8.0.0.0A. It was easy to install google services and play store but several apps do not work (Netflix, HBO etc).
Does anyone else have this phone?

To my knowledge, there is no custom rom support yet. However, the phone has just been released so there is a good chance that their will be some custom roms in the future.
BTW, several different gcam mods work out of the box on 16T. I played around with a couple of different mods yesterday. However, almost all of them suffer from some problems like low color saturation. The stock camera seems to be decent but a custom made gcam mod for 16T would be fantastic.
What are the things on the glass? Bubbles? Cracks?

No, it was probably some smudges on the screen when I took the photo (alternatively just reflections). The screen is in perfect condition.
I just found a working version of Netflix for 16T:
https://consumer.huawei.com/en/comm...s-Apps]Working-Netflix-Version/topicId_38359/
A experimental version of MoKee Rom for 16T is now available.
https://reameizu.com/how-to-flash-m...0KUb_OZP2giyMCWQlkElkGBTbI_sU7D_4K9tUl3IIPaoI
However, I will wait until a more stable version is released before I go through the hassle of trying to install this in on my phone.
Thx for posting this. Very intriguing phone. Really the only issue is software. Well, also the mediocre camera. Anyway it's price : performance ratio is unrivaled so it should be popular with a lot of techies. Custom roms should follow suit. And hopefully a custom gcam also. I might take a chance on this thing.
In Flyme, do you get full English menus when the system language is set to English? Some reviews on Aliexpress seem to indicate it's a mix of both Chinese and English. But I'm guessing they must be referring to Meizu specific apps.

Yes, the menu is fully in English except for the "Flyme labratory" sub menu (which is not important anyway). I have been using 16T now 3 months. I like it as much now as I did when I wrote my first impressions review. The most important advantage for me is the width of the screen. The with of 16T is 78mm compared to 74-76 mm which is the width used for most other "large" phones. It really makes a difference, you get a much better viewing experience compared to these super tall phones which are fashionable nowadays. Another advantage is the lightness, it feels much lighter in the hand compared to all phones I have tried/used for the last 2 years. However, if you are okay with a heavy phone and 20:10 ratio I would buy something else (like a Redmi K30). MIUI is better than Flyme and the camera is probably way better on K30 .
It is currently for € 330, do you recommend it to a friend who does not know about smartphones but keeps them for a long time? (Currently he has a mi5!) I see that it already has Android 10.

Would not recommend this phone to a beginner due to some problems with google service compatibility. The stock rom on this phone have android 9 (not 10).
I am still using this phone as my daily driver. I have bought and sold a lot of different phones lately second hand (Xiaomi Mi Note 10, Huawei P30, Redmi Note 9S etc). However, I have not yet find a better phone than 16T. All other phones I have tried lately feel much worse in the hand (too heavy) and have to narrow screens. IMO if this phone had a global firmware and a better camera it would be the perfect phablet.
Hello. I was considering buying this as my daily phone. Problem for me is the rom, as I am not too fond of the flyme os. Have anyone of you tried this custom rom (GSI)
Lineage 17
https://gearallnews.com/how-to-install-lineage-os-17-gsi-for-meizu-16t-android-10/
Lineage 17.1
https://www.cyanogenmods.org/forums/topic/lineageos-17-1-meizu-16t/
AOSP Android 10
https://www.getdroidtips.com/android-10-meizu-16t/
From what I understand (GSI - Generic System Image) is like an all-in-one rom (correct me if I’m wrong) that works with Android 9 that supports Project Treble.
Seeing this is a relatively new device, i think there is no post here on xda on custom roms for this device. Have anyone of you tried this method? As I do not have a way to test/confirm its validity (No actual unit yet). If you want to try it just remember to try it at your own risk.
Also I don’t know if it’s a fake site or whatnot so beware.
I have this phone and flashed Mokee as they already have a stable release. I just mustered the courage to follow the youtube vid here.
What I liked about Mokee is that it has built in call recording just like in the stock rom (flyme). It also boots quick (less than half a minute) just like the stock rom.
However the full functionality of the camera doesn't work unless you download GCam (tried many versions until one works with 4K60 video in hevc encoding).
Also the onscreen fingerprint scanner is a little iffy and sometimes would lock up the screen if it doesn't work for some unknown reason.
