Had a custom rom
My phone didn't function well, deleted everything , even the OS so I had to push it and flash it again so far so good the phone booted
Now Here's the problem, downloaded whatsapp tried to download a photo bam error
Tried to take a photo error: insert in sd card
Tried to download something from chrome error:no sd card
Connected my phone to the computer, nothing happed then a simple sound of connection.
I think the problem is that the phone doesn't know where is the storage... Like where is the dcim folder for the photos and etc.
Any solution?
Go into TWRP (assuming that is the custom recovery you have installed), go to Wipe section, then tap the button to format storage. See if that helps.

Today I connected my phone which is running CM7 RC2 to my PC and mounted it as storage so I could remove pictures. I turned off USB storage and thought nothing of it.
But when I got a call later I realised my ringtone wasnt playing, it was silent.
I went into the sound settings, and under notiications or ringtones, I cant find any of my tones. Yet I can explore the SD fine and my apps transferred to SD work fine also. The system just cant find the mp3's anymore but they are there, I havent touched them in any way.
Any thoughts and theories?

the only thing i can think of is you didnt unmount your SD card properly i would recomend that you manualy extraxct the Micro SD card and place it back in and also from now on make sure you click unmount on the desktop client as well as the cell phones this could be a future way to prevent such problems from occuring.
I am unable to remove the SD without removing the batter. However, I tried it anyway and still the problem remains. The system just doesn't show my ringtones. Yet I can browse the SD card perfectly otherwise.
I'm at a loss what else to try since the phone has been perfect up until now.

well Sorry to say i had this problem with my g1 the only other option i can recomend is that you copy your most important files to your computer and then format the SD card and if that dosent work then sorry your going to have to buy a new one.
I just don't understand how mounting the SD card to get at my photos (which I have done many times in the past) has now rendered my SD card U/S.
Ok. I've used rom manager to format and partition the SD card and copied my stuff back. The problem remains. I've even tried to re-install CM7 RC2 (without wiping cache and data) and still it happens. I thought I would be clever and modify the cm7 rc2 zip file and add my ringtones as ogg manually that way. But they don't show up on the phone either. What should I do now?
try flashing another rom to see if it reads it could be a CM problem, Or go into setting/phone storge and click unmount then mount, if that fails then sorry man your going to have to buy a new sounds to me you currrupetd the SD crad from being able to be recognized.
I think there is more afoot here than previously thought.
Another problem I have is to do with images.
On my SD card there is 2 folders, Wallpapers and DCIM/Camera. In the camera folder there is 10 images which I previously took with the phone and 2 new ones. Yet when I open the gallery app, only the 2 ones I have recently taken appear. And my wallpaper folder is missing also.
furthermore, if I browse the SD card in Astro for example and try to open any of the images in the gallery, they just appear as blank images. But if I open them in the Astro image viewer, they appear perfectly.
Strange things are happening to this phone and Im not 100% sure its the SD card anymore.
How can I sort this out?
Using rom manager last night, I put on the CM7 RC2 again, this time I wiped data and cache and modified the CM7 zip beforehand to manually put my ringtones on. Now they appear. But finding songs/pictures/tones from the SD is not possible. Only if I manually browse for them.
Very frustrating.
Same thing happened here except I can't access any of my SD card.

have you tried flashing another rom to see if they read on it
I think I've made some progress.
Taking in previous advice given here, I copied my files off the SD card, formatted it and put SOME not all, of the files back. It seems to have fixed it. Because Im not the smartest person in the world, my slapdash approach to problem solving means I can't say for sure if formatting the SD card fixed it, or there was a dodgy file/folder which corrupted things. But now its working as it would.
However, its produced an odd side effect. Every time I connect my phone to my computer via usb, it will always pop up with the USB mass storage menu, where I can tap it to turn on usb storage. Even if the phone is locked and I connect it, it will unlock the phone with a serious of quick clicks and bring up the menu. While the menu is up, if I lock the screen, it will just unlock in front of my eyes. But if I hit home then lock it, its fine. Very odd.
Why has this started to happen all of a sudden?
Don't tell me to use Link2SD unless you can justify crippling my storage partition.
What happens when I use Link2SD: I take a photo, and its stored on the SD (I:\DCIM\Camera) When I check in the gallery, or by using another app like root explorer, I can see that its there. When I go to back it up to my PC, its missing. Not even viewing hidden files can show me its there. Only after I reboot, or remove the SD card while the phone is still on do I see the photo. This also causes problems for existing files. If I overwrite a file, and attempt to back it up before rebooting, it tells me the file is corrupted, when it clearly isn't. After searching for hours, I've concluded that I'm the only person on the planet with this problem with Link2SD
I am new here and I am scared I messed up my S3. I installed the CM 10.1 nightly build 12.18.12 yesterday and my file system is messed up. The original files that I had on my phone are hidden, I can't see them. I don't even get the option to look in the 0/ folder while browsing the internal memory, I don't see anything. In addition, I'm using a FAT32 formatted microSD but the phone won't store anything on it. When I plug the phone into my computer in MTP mode with the SD card installed, I can see the internal memory if I click on the SD card and nothing if I try to click on the internal memory. Without the card installed, nothing comes up. Most importantly, I have two clockworkmod recovery files on my internal memory that I can't access when I go into recovery, it says that it can't find them. I can see the folder, only with the micro SD installed even though everything in on the internal memory, if I go to install from zip and look for them. I don't know how to get clockworkmod recovery to see, access, and install the recovery to get my phone back to the way it was. PLEASE HELP!!!
Is it possible to just unroot and have my phone go back to "day 1" when I got the phone out of the box?
Same issues for me

I am having the same issues. I have tried to move files with the phone connected via USB to my computer and also though the file explorer on the phone and I can't. Not sure why CM 10.1 was set up to mess with the file formatting, etc, but it screwed stuff up. I have tried going back to CM 10 (which is awesome and very stable) but I don't have the right gapps and can't get the right ones installed...
Anyone have any ideas on how to return the files to the original locations?
There isn't a way for you to go back to day one unless you download the original ROM and flash it. Good luck get that installed at this point though...

To get back to day 1 just flash a stock rom from the stock rom thread in OG development using Odin. That will bring you back to either out of the box ics or newest jellybean update, depending on which one you choose.
Hello,
I have a problem with my SD card, my G3 doesn't recognize it anymore (I have it since about a month).
I did restart it a few times but nothing changes, when I go into recovery mode, everything is in place (I can access it and all my files are shown on the sd card) but nothing shows up when the phone is on (in my musics, photos, and I tried root explorer or ES explorer, it doesnt even show the card).
If I put it off the phone, it says that the card has been removed, and if I put it back on, it says that a card has been inserted, but without showing anything of it.
I'm rooted stock ROM by the way.
I think I did nothing really particular since yesterday, what may be the cause ?

Try this.............
I suggest everyone with SD card issues on their G3 follow these instructions!
I popped the card into my card reader and inserted into my PC. Right-click and select "Format". Set format type to "NTFS" and cluster size to "32kb". Uncheck "Quick Format"!<<<Important!
It took almost an hour to format my 128gb card, but gave me the "format successful" prompt when finished. When I popped it back into my phone, it immediately prompted me to format the card because NTFS is an unrecognizable format for the G3. This is kind of the point. It resets the card in a way that simply erasing it's contents from the storage menu wouldn't do.
I dit it and it works now perfectly fine; thank you !
Also it worked for me but with quick format. :good:
so i have been having some weird issues with the sd card when installing custom roms...yes i am doing it correctly...i boot into the latest twrp and do an advanced wipe wiping cache, dalvik cache, data and system...i always do it at least twice to ensure it has been fully wiped...i then install my rom of choice with the correct gapp package and reboot...phone boots fine with signal and data...the sd card reads fine with es file explorer but gallery will not recognize my sd card...it only shows pictures from internal memory...i go to reboot my phone and now both gallery and file explorer as well do not recognize my sd card...weird thing is when i go to settings and storage it says my sd card is mounted...if i unintall file explorer and reinstall it will work but gallery still wont recognize my sd...anyways when i reboot my device file explorer goes back to not recognizing my sd card so i have to AGAIN uninstall and reinstall...but no matter what i do i still cant ever get the gallery to identify my sd card...has this happened with anyone else?
