Hey guys,
N7105 Lineage 7.1.2 (2017/06/20)
Pretty green to all this. Just reimaged with the latest Lineage, got that working - slick system - only foible this time around is Camera Error ("Can't connect to the camera")
Note, I replaced the back (rear facing) camera with an ebay special recently. The samsung image was ok with it, took photos & clear enough. Cyanogen and Lineage both error out as above on attempting to use the camera.
Pity the backup didn't work. I might end up reversing all the way back to stock at this rate; now, thoughts. Could it be the replacement camera? An N7100 camera, for example? Is there a possible workaround to that - or am I barking up the wrong tree?
I'd prefer Lineage to the stock OS, for sure - if the camera problem can be resolved.

Can't connect to camera is an old cyanogen (now lineage) problem. To fix this i download mediaserver killer application from play store and this fixes the issue.
This error is usually faced if a third party camera app is messing with the main camera. Eg- snapchat.
Funny app that one. It demands SU, eventually #SuperSU notices and I grant it SU access... it continues to demand SU when you try to open it.
Also, it hasn't fixed the problem (yet). Is there a trick to this?
Tried it via Play Store and by APK download & manual install, same results.
*Edit: You've given me a new direction to look in though. Tried safe mode, camera still errors out. Will go through some more steps of this article later.

Do restarting phone solves the problem temporarily?
Nope, no affect from restarting.
Update: Popped the old camera back in, guess what. It works. Additionally, with the replacement camera in I lost Torch function along with rear camera; front camera did work in third party apps, just not rear. Re-installing the original rear camera regained all functions.
Of course, I replaced it for a reason - liberal use of solvents damaged the lens in that camera, I still have to find another replacement. Probably not from ebay though...
Really rocking 7.1.2 and having root access on tap, big cheers to the Lineage mob and the #SuperSU guy; these are great packages, and done just for the love? Crazy guys, good work.

Hey all. Starting about two weeks ago, I was starting to get constant FC's on my Camera application and all apps that use the camera.
When I tried restoring back to a nightly where the camera had worked, it opened to the front facing camera and as soon as I tried to switch it to the back camera, it froze, then FC'd and refused to open.
I did a completely clean wipe and installed CM7 Final and I am still having the same issue.
I have tried:
1. Fixing permissions
2. Clearing the data for the Camera App through settings->applications and also through Titanium Backup
3. Deleting the Camera App through Titanium and reinstalling CM7 Final
4. Installing a new kernel (SZ)
5. Switching back to a Sense ROM (camera was still FC'ing)
6. Un-rooting my phone AND hard resetting the stock ROM
and NOTHING has worked. I NEED my camera, it's one of the main reasons why I love my phone so much!
I'm on HW004 which I suspect has something to do with this all.
I took this into the Sprint store the last time this happened and they told me that they "replaced the camera application" but I'm not sure if that's entirely accurate.
I would normally take this into the Sprint store again but it's very difficult for me to get there (I'm a college student without a car) so I'd prefer to find a way of fixing it without having to bring it in.
Anyone have any ideas???

If you've wiped and flashed to a different rom, unrooted your phone and did a hard reset of the stock rom and THIS PROBLEM IS STILL PRESENT?.....Then I hate to tell you dude....you don't have a software problem! You need to find a way to the sprint store OR call customer service and go through the whole technical support crap and have them send you a replacement phone or something. It sounds to me like something messed up your camera to where it won't work any more.....maybe you dropped it or something...spilled O.J. on it or something.....Aliens messed around with your phone and are now laughing at you......SOMETHING WENT WRONG WITH YOUR CAMERA and it isn't anything involving software like the camera app!

Hello
I've just received my Note 2 in the mail today, popped in the sim card and booted it up. Works fine and it's awesome.
When i checked out the camera, it launched fine and i was able to take perfect pictures using the rear camera, but when i switched to the front facing camera, it just came up with a warning saying "Kamera Mislykkedes" (Translated it means "Camera Failed") with 1 button saying "Okay" which would just close the camera app.
If i tried to relaunch it, it would stick to try and use the FFC and simply give the warning again and again.
If i go into Applications and clear all data from the Camera app, it would switch back to the rear camera and thus work again.
But i simply cannot get the FFC to work, i also tried downloading "Pudding Camera" off the market, and it does the same.
I found some other people having problems with older Samsung phones, and it can have something to do with some apps not releasing the camera app correctly after usage. But i haven't installed any apps that didn't come with the phone (except Pudding Camera, but it didn't work before that either).
Anyone got an idea? I really really really really don't want to have to send the phone back already because of a hardware issue, so that's why i'm here.

You can try if face unlook works.

Just a guess here but if a factory data reset doesn't fix it, it sounds like a hardware return sorry.

Just flash latest stock rom

What did you do to get it fixed? I have a similar problem
I have a galaxy note gt n 7000 (galaxy note I) and had this camera fail problem 4 months ago. I have even bought a front camera module from china but the product still didn´t get here. It takes more than a month for these stuff to come to my house in Brazil. Well, anyway, I had given up on trying to solve the problem (that´s why I bought the module) and I usually flash 3 or 4 roms a month (love to mess). So, then, I flashed the ROM super nexus on my phone and opened the camera normally, because the rear camera never had problems and guess what... when the camera opened I saw my face. Scared to death. kkkk. Now, it´s my fourth day using the rom and the front camera is working nice.
I don´t believe most of the users are having hardware issues. I think there´s something related to JB update because ppl started complaining about these camera errors after the update... but who knows. Hope u all have the same luck I had.
=)
I purchased an Envizen V100MD T recently, and me being the way I am, wanted things to be my way. SO I rooted the tablet with a program called Root Genius. I tried several other options, this was the only one that worked.
The downside to this is that both front and rear cameras ceased to function. I tried several camera apps, all saying Cannot Connect to Camera
Has anyone else had experience with this? I would really like to load a custom rom and/or kernel but I have not figured out how to get a custom recovery installed. Both TWRP and CWM are not supported, so I am a little leery about moving forward. At this point I can either leave it rooted, or try to revert back and see if the camera will work again.
Kinda wish I went a price level up and purchased the ASUS or Lenovo that I was eyeing, but would lose 2" on the screen size. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks!
A few days ago I have ordered and then replaced the LCD of my Zenfone 2. Sending it back to repair the display was as expensive as buying a new phone, so I decided to take the risk. I followed the instructions I found on the internet and I succeded. Both touch and display work after replacement, and all other components work too, except for camera functions. Now when I open any camera app (Google Camera, Zenfone Pixelmaster camera and so on) I get the infamous "camera failed to launch, please reboot your device". After cleaning up both application cache and system cache (I have even tried flashing an older firmware version) I decided to check both the flat cables connecting the front camera and rear camera to the phone's motherboard, with no success.
Any clue about how to proceed ?
Any chance that trying a different ROM (such as Cyanogen) might fix my problem ?
I have read that many users are experiencing that nefarious camera message, however I haven't found any effective solution so far, and without a clue I can't figure out if one of the two cameras is broken or damaged...
Suggestions ?
Thanks in advance and have a nice day
Azrahel
UPDATE 1: installed CM 12.1 following tutorial. Everything working except for camera. Tried both Google stock camera app and A Better Camera (free trial). Google stock says "cannot connect to camera" A Better camera shows a black background and does nothing else...
UPDATE 2
I just received a spare Zenfone 2 from another guy that, after breaking the screen, decided to sell it for spare parts instead of repairing it.
I have turned it on as soon as it arrived via mail and..guess what ? Camera issue is there too!
I have tried the following:
1) swap both camera modules and motherboard to my Zenfone 2
2) vice versa (put my camera modules on the newly received motherboard)
3) hard reset and reload all system images on both phones.
Issue is still unsolved. I'm starting to think that the camera problem is a "sort of anti tampering" implemented by Asus.
As soon as you unscrew the phone, something breaks - or at least detects the tampering - blocking the camera.
There's no other way to explain...
Any suggestion ? Did anyone effectively solved the problem ?
Please, don't leave me alone in this thread..

ZENFONE 2: camera failed to launch
Dear Azrahel
My Zenfone 2 phone exactly encountered the same problem, probably because of a software update/installation and so on. I simply rebooted the phone into the SAFE MODE (simply long press the power button then LONG TAP the shutdown then confirm the reboot into the safe mode). In the safe mode I found that the camera works normally. Then I simply rebooted the phone (in order to enter the normal environment) and now the camera works! I hope that you can fix the bug by this simple process.
Did you find a solution for this? I'm encountering the same issue after I replaced the display. The connectors seem to be in well. Maybe I broke something small internally without even knowing and that causes both cameras not to function.

have you resolved? i have the same problem
I have the exact same problem... my screen broke, I got it fixed, and the camera stopped working... tried the safe mode method, didn't work. I am now running cm13 on my phone, and camera still doesnt work.
Zenfone 2 ZE550ML
Did anyone find a solution yet?
Okay, so I'm having some issues with my G3.
1. Issue: Last night i noticed that my rear camera was not working. I was running Lineage OS 14.1. I couldn't rotate from my front camera to rear one, there was no option for that. So, this morning i installed stock MM 30B and i thought that it will work just fine, it could have been a minor software issue..well, it is not working. I also noticed that flashlight is not working either...AND my front facing camera is upside down What in the hell is wrong with that? I've searched for solution but on google but couldn't find it so i started installing apps that leads me to my second issue.
2. Issue: WIFI is SLOW. It took forever to download Facebook app from app store, even though the signal strength was maxed, and my phone was like half meter away from my router...My PC gets 55Mb/s and phone just over 5...
For the camera, i tried to unscrew my device to see if the ribbon cable is not attached properly, but i was unable to find a proper screwdriver...i managed to get 1 screw out, but it was pain in ass so i figured ill take him back instead of continue to take apart my device....
Any advice on this 2 issues? I'd appriciate it

Please reply there. Did the issue occur after you updated your cm13?
