Hello, I am using a rooted htc one m8. I wanted to unroot it and reverted my device to android KitKat. I flashed stock recovery from the official OTA of 5.1.1. after that I tried to lock the bootloader using the command "fastboot oem lock" command using adb. then I tried to update the phone to Android lollipop. It installed and the phone shut down. now when I try to switch on the phone, It boots to stock recovery. even I cant get unlock code for bootloader to unlock it again. Please help me to solve this issue...
can you boot to bootloader ??
if yes then post the result of fastboot getvar all ( remove serialno and imei before posting )

This is really confusing. In addition to the getvar data previously requested, you should outline step by step, what exactly you did (in detail, with file names, etc.). In particular, I'm very confused about:
1) What version number you started on (when you were rooted)?
2) How did you "revert to Kitkat", what files did you use, etc.
3) What stock recovery number you flashed
4) How/where you obtained the file to update after you flashed stock recovery and locked bootloader. Did it download automatically after you flashed stock recovery, or did you put it on the phone manually (if the latter, what version number and/or file name).
Also, the following should be kept in mind:
- You need a stock never rooted ROM/TWRP backup (unrooting won't work) and stock recovery in order to properly update by OTA.
- You do not need to lock the bootloader to install an OTA update, but you do need a locked bootloader to flash an RUU or firmware.zip. So depending on what exactly you used to try to update, locking the bootloader may not have been necessary; and may be causing you more trouble than good.

i tried to relock the bootloader just now but it keeps on rebooting to hboot so i just unlock again and it booted fine albeit being factory reset.
so the question is, after i fastboot oem lock , what should i do to reboot it normally instead of reboot to hboot?
do i need to download RUU exe file and execute it?
i also re flash original recovery since i don't feel like using custom ROM for the time being, i just want to wait for official OTA.
If you want to go back totally stock, then yes just run the RUU again.
M.
It will not boot if you have custom rom installed and oem locked. Hence it keeps rebooting into bootloader with a some warning on the top.
Unlock it again to resume the boot and lose all the settings or run a ruu as suggested before me.

beware if you have a 1.28 based rom (or updated OTA) i dont think a 1.26 based RUU will work. I didnt for me, i had to flash CWM recovery again and a .zip with 1.28.
so we need a new RUU to get back to stock if we have updated hboot.

RE-Lock your bootloader.
Easiest.
Just enter fastboot on your phone then use command prompt and write:
cd..
cd..
cd \fastboot
Then connect phone to cable then type:
'fastboot oem lock'
Edit: Phone must be in fastboot mode before connecting.
And then you will be able to update easily.
Pl guide us in step by step. Pl.

ya followed this guide when rooting and installing clockwork recovery...not installed any custom rom yet..just rooted in phone after unlock.
now not able to do ota which has just arrived in india
Help anyone. have relocked thephone now what. tried to do a factory reset from bootloader menu nothing happens .how do I get the phone back in condition newly bght. even clockwork recovery seems to have gone..this is so disappointing
You didn't need to lock the boot loader. Unlock it using the method you used when you unlocked your phone.
All you need to install the ota depends on what state your device is in before you start.
Are you on the stock from or a custom from?
If stock with unlocked boot loader and clockwork mod recovery then all you needed to do was flash the stock recovery reboot and do the ota.
If you were in a custom rom you will have needed to get back to stock from the nandroid backup you took, flashed stock recovery, and stock boot.img. Then reboot to stock and do OTA.

Hi guys,
I have an HTC One M9 Dev Edition. It is rooted, bootloader unlocked (since dev ed) and s-on. I had 2.8.617.4. I have been getting notifications to update it to 2.11.xxx.x, but since I was rooted, I couldn't update. So I thought of reverting back to stock to get the OTA. I booted to recovery (TWRP 2.8.7.0), tried restoring to the nandroid system that I had a backup of. That failed, with system is read only error or similar error message. So I followed step 5 from this guide - http://forum.xda-developers.com/one-m9/general/best-unlocking-bootloader-rooting-guide-t3087354.
After finishing the steps, my phone is now stuck on the htc logo. I'm not sure what is wrong. I can boot into recovery. One thing I notice is when I boot to download mode, I still see the OS as 2.8.617.4. I tried flashing system again, I still see the same thing and the same problem. I need your help fixing this. Thanks.
Step 5 in that guide says "Coming Soon"?
Are you on stock recovery or twrp?
I sincerely hope you did not lock your bootloader without ticking "allow oem unlock" in developer settings.

Oh, I'm sorry, I meant Extra Section after step 5. No, I didn't lock my bootloader. I'm on dev edition, so my bootloader was unlocked right from the beginning.
I am on stock recovery. But I can flash twrp. My download mode is working, and I am able to flash different images, so I don't think my phone is bricked or anything.
At this point, I just need to get my phone back to a working condition. I'm sure someone can tell me how to do that.
Edit: Can it be because I tried to flash an older firmware (1.32.617.3) than what I currently have (2.8.617.4)?

Good, don't relock.
That is almost certainly your problem. You just need to get back to current stock to take the ota. That thread is out of date IMO. You should look at one of the other back to stock threads, though ignore statements about relocking.

I downloaded a system image of the current version of OS I am at. Do you think flashing that will work?
You probably have an bootloop because of the kernel. You are S-ON user so you probably have to flash the right (stock) kernel for the untouched system.img you have flashed.
If you try to make a wipe to data partition (even better a factory restore) could also help you but you are going to lose all your data.
If you want to flash a stock kernel (boot.img) just extract it from the same RUU you extracted system.img .
In order to flash it give the command
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
After that give the command
Code:
fastboot getvar all
and copy-paste everything here (except your IMEI number).
Hi guys,
I've updated my M9 to 7.0 through OTA update. After installing my phone boots directly in to the bootloader. I can enter download and recovery mode without any trouble but that's about it. When i try to boot in to the phone it boots back to the bootloader. My phone is S-ON so i can't flash a RUU through ADB, however the phone is unlocked.
I tried to flash a RUU through the external micro SD card method but that failed because the firmware is lower than my firmware.
Current M9 Status:
*Unlocked*
S-On
Firmware 4.14.401.7
Stuck in bootloader/recovery/downloadmode
I tried everything to my knowledge. Is there someone who encountered the same problems as i do? Or is there someone who knows a solution to all of this?

Some questions:
Did you have a completely stock device when you applied the OTA?
Did it ever successfully boot into Nougat, or did the OTA immediately result in the current condition?
I wonder if you could either flash TWRP or use it via your computer (there's a way to run it in your phone without installing it) so that you could apply the OTA again. I'm not sure if it would fix whatever went wrong, though.
Alternatively, you could flash a ROM (again, via TWRP), obtain S-OFF, change your MID & CID to the developer version and apply that RUU.

S-ON is no obstacle to flashing TWRP or another ROM. You will need to unlock your bootloader in order to do either but I assumed that you had already done this since you posted that your status is unlocked.

The phone status is indeed unlocked.
I didn't know I could flash TWRP or a ROM. I thought I needed S-OFF for that.
I want my phone to be as stock as possible. Can I flash a stock ROM or does it have to be a custom one.
And do i need to flash TWRP in order to flash a ROM?
So i've searched around and came to the conclusion to fix my phone is to flash TWRP first. After that FLASH a custom ROM, if that goes as planned S-OFF my phone with the SunShine method. After that go back to stock and hope everything goes well.

That's the route I would take too. The readme thread has a section dedicated to changing your SKU in order to use other RUUs.
Hello,
so I got the HTC 10 from my brother but I can not get the latest updates via OTA. Reason: Bootload unlocked und TWRP Recovery.
Now I wanna relock the bootloader and back to the Stock Recovery in order to get the OTA upates. I found files in the thread but I do not really know how to proceed at all
Is there any step by step guide for this situation which a newbie would understand?
Some Info's to the phone itself:
Recovery: TWRP 3.03-10_Unofficial
S-On
Unlocked Bootloader
CID: HTC_034
Android 7.0, January Security update
Software: 2.41.401.4
Kernel: 3.18.31-perf-g9ec8cbc and @aabm#1 SMP PREEMPT
Baseband: [email protected]_79.07_F
Is there any way to simply flash the stock recovery again put the bootloader to locked and then get the OTA?
Any help is appreciated
(And no can not ask my brother as he is for several months abroad)

Bootloader status does not affect ability to take OTAs.
You need two things mainly to take the OTA:
1. Stock recovery matching your current software
2. An untouched backup image of the system partition matching your current software. This is needed if you're currently rooted.
Both can probably be found in the thread you linked. The backup image is flashed from twrp. The stock recovery is then flashed from download mode using this command:
Fastboot flash recovery yourrecoveryfile.img
But even after doing that, you might still get an error when trying to take the OTA. Easiest way to take it is to start from scratch, backup your phone's contents to your pc or sd card, and then run the latest ruu for your phone. This will bring you up to date, and will also allow you to make a backup system image from twrp before rooting so that you can easily take future OTAs. The ruu will also completely wipe your phone's contents.
So you can try the first method I mentioned, and if it doesn't work go with the ruu.
As your brother may root it before so the system may got modify, in this case the best and easiest way is flash a RUU.
Try this RUU, http://dl3.htc.com/application/[email protected]_79.07_F_release_495903_signed_2.exe
A RUU will restore your HTC 10 back to stock and wipe out everything. It require a match CID or super CID, if not it will not flash.
I tried to flash RUU via sd card method as well as fastboot method. Both got failed
sd card: Header Error
fastboot: load_file: could not allocate 1950335038 bytes
error: cannot load '2PS6IMG.zip'
Im running on venom rom , S ON with oem unlocked. How can i go back to stock rom??
Mine is 2.41.401.41

This RUU worked perfectly. And no the phone was not rooted, just unlocked Bootloader and TWRP as Recovery.
After flashing the RUU I got the July Security Patch and that is what I wanted.
Thank you very much, Problem solved

It is a EXE, you should run on windows instead of using the sdcard method, as for the not enough space I am not sure about

Nah, i downloaded the exe and the zip file also.
Anyway fixed it. Just restored from a nandroid backup. Now back in stock
PS:In btw, anyone facing any battery drop issue??
So I run in another Problem. I got the latest OTA for Europe (July Security Patch) but now my Phone gets shown as uncertified in the google play app which means I can not download certain apps like Netflix via Appstore.
Now I already figured out why I get shown uncertified: the Bootload is still unlocked. I thought the RUU would fix this as well. And if I wanna go in to the recovery (there was an TWRP Recovery on it before) I just get a red triangle with an "!" in it. It wont boot into recovery. Had to hard reset the phone to be able to boot normally to android then.
Now I wanna flash the stock recovery and lock the Bootload again to get again the certified status from google again.
Now here I need help.
1. Can't find the matching recovery version (EU unlocked, July Securtiy Patch, 2.41.401.41). Can anyone help me find the recovery image I need?
2. How do I get the bootload locked again? My Brother unlocked it via HTCdev.com back then, that I know already. But the command fastboot oem lock does not work at all. It just does nothing.
So how can I lock the bootloader?
Thanks for the help.
If you ran the RUU you already have stock recovery...red triangle with an "!" in it.
Are you running the fastboot oem lock from bootloader or download mode?

Haha well then everything is ok with the recovery ^^
I tried both (download and bootloader mode), both times nothing happens. In download mode my PC does not even recognize the phone as the command "adb devices" does not list my phone and the command "fastboot oem lock" does nothing. HTCsnyc installed and ofc adb shell, worked even as when I normally checked with adb devices when my phone was on it was recognized.

Alright this command works and shows my device.
Now I am in bootloader (Shows Software Status: Modified; Unlocked, S-ON). Then I type in "fastboot oem lock" and I get:
FAILED (remote: unknown command)
finished. total time: 0.014s
Well at least now I get something, before just nothing happened. Any clue what I might do wrong here?
*edit*
So I am a big noob
Phone has to be in download mode then the command works and my phone shows me a message if I want to lock again. Unfortunately it will factory reset my phone as well (at least it says that) so I have to backup my data (again) first.
But thank you for your help, appreciate it.
Cheers!
So I did lock the phone again and flashed again the RUU.exe BUT again my Phone shows in Bootloader Software Status as Modified...and it shows as Relocked.
So how do I get it to official status again?

Ye found a thread to it. But seems I dont need it. My Phone gets shown as certified again at google play store so I assume just "relocking" the bootloader seems to be enough.
