Unable to do anything while in a call - T-Mobile LG G3

So I used to have an LG G3 on Verizon and you could do anything during a call. You could browse the web, open your calendar, etc., all while in a call.
I just realized on this current LG G3 I have on T-Mobile, I can't do anything. The buttons at the bottom are grayed out and disabled, and the notification bar is even disabled. It won't let me leave the phone app until the call is finished.
Is this normal behavior? Is this a carrier limitation? Rom issue? Is there a workaround? I find this pretty absurd. I'm used to looking in my calendar while talking to people, and I can't do this anymore.
I'm running Android 6.0 rooted stock Rom.

Well, can anyone at least confirm that this is how their T-mobile LG G3 behaves, or is my phone misbehaving?

I'm going to post the only solution I found for this. Installing other dialer apps did nothing, as they launch the stock dialer when actually dialing. Installing Google's dialer app and making it default was the only option that worked. It seems to be coded into the stock dialer to disable the home buttons and notification bar. Here is a link to instructions and download for the Google dialer app. It's not available on the play store for this phone model, but it does work.

Are you sure the phone wasn't locked when you answered the call?

[Q] LG G3 Smart Dialing Issues

Hello,
I am a recent owner of the LG G3 and I have already had some annoyances with this phone. Most of them are not big enough to take the pleasure out of using it, but one of them is getting in my normal day-to-day operations which are the basic for any phone - CALLING.
Coming from HTC, I am quite used to their Dialer app and I have a problem with LG's version. I am not sure if it is a problem on all devices or it is just mine, or is it an option that I have not changed, but if anyone knows how to go around this - please help.
I am major user of Smart Dialing and right now when I start dialing in the name of the contact it appears on top. The problem is that if that Contact has several numbers, the first number that appears is NOT the DEFAULT one selected in his profile. This makes calling a contact quite a long process...first searching, then going through the results, then sellecting it, then hitting the button to call. It looks like when you are Smart Dialing the UI is sorting contacts by frequency of contact (I have selected that option), but the numbers themselves are sorted also according to the digits and not according to which one is default and which one is not.
Does anyone know how to fix this?

You seem to be right, even if you select a preferred number in contacts it doesn't carry through. If it really annoys you then I guess you can try a different dialer app. It is a bit sloppy by LG though.

Good to know that I am not the only one experiencing this issue!
I will probably install a custom Dialer app, but I hope LG comes up with an update for that because their Dialer otherwise is nice.

Voicemail notification

I have LG G3 F400k with straight talk sim running on AT&T network.I don't get voicemail notifacation or voicemail icon in status bar ?.Anyone facing same problem?
I've never had Voicemail notifications work in Cyanogenmod (cm10, cm11, or cm12). using several different phones too & carriers.
Had been hoping to find solution to this (other than running 3rd party apps)....
Right now I'm on an LG G3 ls990 (Sprint).... would love any help in the best solution to getting Voicemail notifications (and Voicemail to Text feature would be great too).
I'm also getting this with AT&T LG G3 on Straight Talk.
Fix for StraightTalk/ ATT Voicemail icon not showing up on LG G3
I had this problem and here is how I fixed it:
On your LG G3 go to settings, apps, and then select the visual voice mail app. Make sure this is set to "Disabled" (I also hit force stop). I guess I had somehow enabled this app. Anyway this worked for me and I hope it does for you as well!

[Q] how do I get a dialer?

Just setting up my new t805 from AT&T (so officially it's a sm-t807a) and noticed it doesn't have a dialer app. No big deal. I use Google Hangouts for all my calls anyway.
Nope. Installed Hangouts app, installed dialer, can't dial out. It lets me dial and brings up the "in-call" screen (blacl screen with big face icon in the middle) but doesn't actually dial.
Anybody know how to fix that? I was hoping to not have to root this tablet but the ability to actually make phone calls is pretty essential.
Okay weirdest thing. Turns out I just can't call the first person in my contacts list. Sorry to waste anyone's time.

Making calls sometimes takes two attempts

I looked through the forums and could not find anything on this that is recent. If I missed something I apologize for the re-post.
What I am experiencing is rather annoying. I start most of my phone calls in one of 3 ways. 1) from the contact/missed/recent screens in the dialer app, 2) from the contact info screen, as access by Textra (my preferred texting app), or 3) voice command.
Regardless of how I start the call, more times than not I am greeted with the call about to start (in other words the dialer opens and the number is present along with the contact info) then the dialer will close. Then I try again by either swiping from the contact list, or sending the voice command again and the call dials.
I am not rooted, on the latest 5.0.1.
Any ideas?
Me too, same problem on 5.0.1. Annoying~
I have the Note 4 Dev and it is rooted with MOROM 6.5 installed, and I sometimes have this happen as well.
I have been experiencing the same issues. I'm also on 5.0.1 not rooted. Running Nova Launcher.

I have noticed this issue on MoROM custom ROM and a person did mention it on that thread so it seems like this is a lollipop bug for some or all :/

Voicemail notification icon has never shown - why?

I have 2 identical LG G4 (AT&T H810) phones that I am using with Straight Talk service. On one of them, I have never received a voicemail notification in the month that I have had it. If I dial in manually, I have messages. On the non-working phone, if I go into the voicemail settings, the "notification sound" option is grayed out. On the working phone, this option is enabled and can be modified.
Any ideas what to check? I am running the stock ROM, currently Android 6.0 build MRA58K.
I have only made one uncommon tweak to the phone. In the dialer app, the "Contacts" tab would ask me to set up AT&T contact backup. I found a way to get around this by the following which I found in a forum somewhere.
On the dialer, dial ##2666## and set "registration" to "completed".
Could this be causing an issue? Could this be an issue with APN settings? Keep in mind that I have 2 identical phones, and one works fine and one does not. I'm not sure where the difference lies.
