Android Messenger MMS Compression with Stock ROM (VZW and Rooted) - HTC 10 Questions & Answers

Hello,
Installed Android Messenger today, to try over HTC Messenger. The one flaw I have is when sending an MMS Message, Android Messenger compresses it down to 100KB, whereas HTC Messenger keeps it at about 1MB.
Anyone experienced this, and have a fix?
Thanks.

I had the same thing, nothing I did resolved the issue so I use Textra messenger for my sms now which is a great app.

I have the same issue, but not with android messenger. On a sense rom I can send/receive uncompressed images/gifs via mms (even with android messenger), but on aosp/los, mms images get compressed. Gifs also get compressed down to a jpeg image. I have tried everything, erasing modems, flashing firmwares, full RUUS, downgrading to mm, and recently tried going s-off/locked (I was originally s-off unlocked).
On Verizon Wireless
Currently running latest lineage (lineage-14.1-20170601) with stock open gapps
VZW firmware 2.41.605.18
With the latest international rfg_3.img (I have tried both with and without this image, doesn't seem to make a difference.)
I feel like I have tried literally everything, but have yet to find a fix.
More recently I have had the issue of the phone wanting to default to 3g (4g/lte works but the phone seems to defer to 3g), on both sense and aosp/los roms as well. Not sure if it's connected or not. This tends to stick even after full wipes/formats modemst1/2 erasing and RUUs. At this point I have learned to live with it.
Any input would be greatly appreciated, as I love the more "stock" aosp and los based roms.

You have to modify mms_config.xml inside the Android messenger apk.

I guess that would mean that I would have to modify the APK everytime the App gets updated?

Do you have a modded version you could share?

AOSP/Stock Android Messaging App on Evo

Hi,
Does anyone know if there is a way to install the stock Android messaging app on an Evo running the stock 2.2 OTA ROM?
I am waiting for root so I can remove this Sense UI toilet, but in the interim, I'm stuck with this horrific Sense messaging app, which has the infamous timestamp bug. I know I can use HandCent, but I don't like it.
I was wondering if I can get the Froyo Messaging.APK and install it on my Evo?
Also, is it possible to do it for contacts and the phone app too?

Unfortunately you cannot replace the app without root. It's a system app that cannot be altered out of the box.
Sent from my PC36100
Is there any way to install this if not rooted?
Thanks.

Did you really just ask that directly after the previous post told you you couldn't? How odd.
ok, I could use a little help with this now
I have wiped all data/cache/delvik etc. reloaded the XxXViRuSXxX rom that was just release, was running the prior version before.
when installing this I am no longer able to send MMS messages. This goes for the just release version of this rom and the prior. Any suggestions or help on this would be great, really cant live without being able to send MMS and I much more enjoy this messaging system.

[Q] Install Froyo native contacts.apk

Is there any way to install the Android 2.2 original Dialer and Contacts (like in SDK) instead of Motorola's one?
I tried renaming BlurDialer.apk and BlurContacts.apk before installation, no luck. Also Contacts.apk from Desire ROM or SDK image cannot be installed even with adb install or update.zip from recovery.
I realize that these apps are highly integrated into system, but I'm sure there must be some way... And I know that any good 3rd party dialer may suit my needs, but so is the original one.
This is something I really want too. I can't add a contact without a valid account? That's really dumb. This can't be the original Android dialer app, although I've never used another Android phone so I'm not sure. Any ideas?
The reason I wanted to go to the original Android dialer/contacts was because of a bug, not being able to add anything "without an account" which was present in all of the ROMs I tried. I flashed the Chinese 2.2, bricked the phone and was unable to go back, as I guess I was pushed an update OTA that restricted downgrading. Ended up flashing the official leaked T-Mobile Froyo ROM and I can now add contacts.
have you found a way to install contacts.apk ?
I would be interested in this, too.

You can count me in too. I love the Froyo contacts!

Mms size limit exceeded

I just recently got this error. I'm running Calk's 2.7 with ICS 2.0, fresh install.
Please help! TIA
Okay, well it appears as though you tried to attach a file that exceeded the maximum allowable size limit for mms messaging. Are you saying that you did not try to send anything or what? Need more info.
Usually the messaging app compresses the file automatically. Now it's not. I didn't change any settings...
Have you tried sending something that you know has been sent before? Maybe what you are trying to send in this particular instance is too big even when compressed? Anyone else have any ideas?
I put together a STOCK mms.apk ICS themed. If you'd like to try that one. It could be a bug with EL26 in general since it's not an official release.
Flash via recovery.
Thanks Overstew!!
Is it possible for me to change the compression size within the apk itself?

Can't send SMS

Hi guys,
I'm using CM11 nightlies for quite a while. But since two weeks I can't send SMS anymore. Receiving is no problem, making calls also no problem, but just sending SMS doesn't work for me. I already tried several things (using Hangouts as SMS application instead of the default messaging app), did a full wipe, flashed a MJ9 modem of Joeldroid. But none of these things I tried solved the problem. What could it be? Are there some things I can try?
Thanks a lot!

I have no other keyboard installed than the stock CM-keyboard. Can't believe it conflicts. Have now CyanogenmodX installed (CM11 with several tweaks), still I can't send SMS. I begin to think it's a hardware problem.

Is it possible to switch default dialer and contacts apps in Lineage OS to the ones from stock GT-I9192 firmware?

Hi, my mom has the Dual modification (GT-I9192). Recently I installed Lineage OS 14.1 with Android 7.1.2 on her phone (because Android 4 didn't support many modern applications already), and she can't get used to the new dialer and contacts applications. She constantly misclicks contacts on the Favorites screen and keeps calling wrong people.
I wonder if it's possible to somehow rip the original apps from the stock firmware and transfer them to the new one, because my mom really liked them. I had downloaded stock firmware (I9192XXUAMH2), opened it with ext4 unpacker, found app folder, but I can't find the right one. SecContacts.apk is what I'm looking for? Anyways, I just don't know the right way to do it. I gained root on the device and looked into the priv-apps folder of the new system, found Dialer and Contacts applications. No sign of SecContacts which I could try switching by the old one. And I'm not sure that it would even be compatible, thinking of different Android versions. Maybe I need some sort of flashable zip of the dialer app for flashing in recovery mode (I use TWRP, but it's not very relevant, I suppose)?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
