Dropped my phone in the toilet for a few seconds. It all was working well hours later, even after the microphone was back. Now,a day later it's worse. The speaker microphone came back. all was working well until I added back the magnetized backing. thinking it was ok and the back would protect it again. But now it's just plain dead, a few minutes later. Any advice???
Thanks, Kathe

Hi all
I've got my DEFY in january, an Italian one, "BT33" series known to be loudspeaker defect free.
Today I left it in my car, under the sun, for an hour, and with the high temperatures we have here (30-35 °C) when I got back it was pretty hot. It was not in sunlight, but into a tray, but it still got hot.
Just a few minutes ago I tried calling, and no voice from the loudspeaker.
Rebooted, pulled battery, no way. Applying pressure in the loudspeaker area, a trick I read early on the forums, causes no effect.
Plugged in earphone, and it is working. Also in speakerphone mode it works.
So you got it. It can still happen. A broken defy of the new series.
Will go into repair tomorrow.
(Warning: The "hot in car" hypothesis is my best logical explanation for this thing, since I never dropped it, dipped in water, or otherwise mishandled it.)
Yes this is going to sound like a horrible lie or excuse to get a new phone but i love my gnex and want to hold onto it. I was in my kitchen and tripped and instead of falling to the ground and being protected by my otter box my phone flew forward into the sink where a pot from dinner was soaking full of water. You can guess what happened next. Like a puma I pulled it out and actually broke the otter box trying to quickly get it out and pull the cover and battery and sim. I removed it all since the phone was fully submerged for several seconds. I placed it in rice and aside from using the only rice I had (had flavoring powder mixed in which hopefully didn't do more harm then good). I did a damage control assessment. Everything seemed fine. Until I noticed my speaker was barely audible and I seemed to have destroyed my handset speaker as well. After several hours ans overnight in rice it appears my handset speaker is back to normal but it seems my loudspeaker is still rather muffled a little bit. It seems close to normal (maybe its in my head now) but I deff notice a small rattle or vibration only at certain points in ringtone (almost want to say when the bass is strong)as if maybe some rice or water is still stuck. The speaker may actually back to normal strength but this little rattle or brief period of abnormal sound is still present. Anyone have any suggestions? And yes I know I am very lucky if this is the only long term thing (aside from getting a new otterbox I escape with after my random gravity check almost destroyed my fav phone ever.

I don't have any suggestions for you, but I'm surprised it is working at all. You're very lucky.
So the speaker on my phone is giving me problems. Its kind of hard to explain, but it kind of crackles/pops some times... Maybe really high pitched at times. and other times it cuts in and out. With very occasionally i cant hear anything out of it.
Little back story. it was kinda crackling a few months back nothing major. Then I set it on the top of my dresser and it fell onto a metal step ladder. (fell about 6-7 feet and hit on the top of the phone) As always i have a case and the screen didnt break thankfully. But it made the speaker started acting up to the point where phone calls are almost impossible to get through. I went ahead and replaced the speaker, put it back together, and its slightly better, but still not sounding right, and still makes making phone calls unbearable. I Unrooted my phone, just to see if it was the rom and still nothing. so I went ahead and re-rooted again. (couldn't hurt right? ) Am i missing something?? It seems to me like a hardware problem but i dont know what else I'm missing?
Thanks for your help.
So last Thursday I dropped my OneX phone into my kitchen sink full of water & soap. It got fully submerged into it for at least 5 sec.
It still worked completely fine the moment i fished it out, but of course i immediately turned it off
Like 30 minutes later, out of of nowhere my phone came back online without me doing anything. I turned it off but it kept rebooting after showing the HTC splash screen. Water must have done something crazy I don't know...
I put in in a bowl with rice hoping it would dry out. In the meantime it kept rebooting for like 1 hour continuously I kept hearing the vibration
After sometime I noticed it was back on the 'unlock simcard screen' so it finally wasn't rebooting anymore. I unlocked the simcard and have been using my phone perfectly normal.
I've noticed some small darker blotches on the right downside of the screen, but those have slowly dissipated too. And today they are completely gone.
I just wanted to share this little story with you, I'm very happy that my One X survived this 'battle' against water haha.
Haha!! Nice to hear it!
Congo man! Srsly! :good:

My wife had an One X but first she dropped it in the toilet. Had to wait a few days to let it dry, but it was OK. Then she dropped it again in a puddle full of water. And what was wierd was it worked. Then these blotches appeared
Then about a day later the screen just would be bright at all!.
I tried taking it apart but to my surprise the battery was so soft and would bend super easy. The insides smelled very bad.
It never worked again but I was surprised it lasted as long as it did!

I do hope for you it will keep working, but to be honest I doubt it. Water does strange things to electronic components.
It may even work fine for days/weeks or months after being in touch with water, but it suddenly can stop working or have other strange reactions due to corrosion or the chemical compounds reacting that were in the water at the time.
I have experienced this behaviour a lot in water damaged electronics, as I'm helping people with insurance claims in my profession. It's difficult to prove problems are connected to water damage, weeks or months after the accident occurred.
Repair centers normally don't give any guarantee on repairs due to water damage, in my experience. That's due to the fact damage may occur even after weeks or months, and it can never be foretold a repair was 100 percent successful.
So, it certainly still could have problems later in time, although of course I hope you were very lucky this time!
Rice is indeed one of the best things to try in these circumstances, it probably saved your phones life this time!
A couple of months ago I spilt lots of pure alcohol on my HOX.
At first these grey spots on the right bottom side appeared and then after turning it off for about 10 hours they vanished but a big wide line appeared in the left side of the screen starting from the bottom until the middle of the screen.
Other than that the phone worked absolutely fine no problem what so ever.
I send the phone to be repaired (screen replacement) last week and got it back two days later with a new screen and a notice that there was no cost charged as the replacement was done under warranty.......

yes because they thought it was a screen failure...htc wrote in the letter that the screen was abnormal so they replaced it with a complete new...but my screen was broken and repaired with just glued glass ...really nice from them to change the whole screen
Hey guys just picked up the phone yesterday and I tested the waterproofing and it works fine just the speakers become very quite and distorted after touching water for a good minute or two. Happened when I tried to submerge it and just shower with music playing. The weird thing is it returns to full volume after 5 or 10 mins of just sitting there out of water. Should I return my phone?
No this is normal the speakers need to dry to resume normal functionality
