Hi guys,
I just got a HTC 10 with sense 8 and found out I don't have the arrow keys option on my keyboard anymore.
I think they are in sense 7 (I had them on my M9). Is a rom available with sense 7 in it? Or does HTC 10 only have sense 8 roms?
HTC 10 comes with the awful (imo) Touchpal keyboard, not their own anymore.
Highly recommend trying out a few on play store and finding one you like with that option. Google keyboard is my go to, but I don't know if it arrow keys.
SwiftKey has the option to show arrow keys on the keyboard.
To answer your question, there are no roms based on older versions of Sense as far as I know.
I too use Gboard (what Google calls their keyboard now). I used to use SwiftKey with the arrows but it's a bummer to lose the screen real estate when I only need arrows sometimes. Gboard does have a way to switch to a screen with arrows. Less convenient but I can have my smaller keyboard with number row.

Yep times 2. But im using swype. This is my best keyboard and better than slide it.
I use smart keyboard - far better than stock or even the HTC IME mod
Can you tell me in what way a keyboard is better than another?

Well the stock one annoyed me because the word suggestions appear over the top of what your writing, so you can't read what you've just typed.
smart keyboard has a section above the keyboard where the suggestions appear, so they don't get in the way.
also i found i hit the full stop button too often on the stock one as the space bar was too small.
smart keyboard has a free version so try that. but it doesn't have the word correction - that's only in the pro verison
switched to swype a few days ago, don't know if i'll be able to use traditional keyboards again lol
the word prediction is just amazing and much faster than typing on the standard htc sense keyboard
Swype without a doubt.
100% recommended.

Keyboard as portrait mode when in landscape use?
Hi guys! With stock keyboard on Desire, it is pretty good to use it in portrait mode, however, when you try in landscape mode -to take benefits of the larger buttons as well- you must forgo the rest on the page/app or whatever on the screen, because the screen is then full with keyboard and text input box only.
Is there any keyboard which is not covering the whole screen (this may be possible with an input field consisting of one, scrollable line) ??
i find swype incredibly slow, there is no way that one finger sliding to each key is faster than tapping with two thumbs in opinion.
Such choices are relative by definition.
IME, HTC_IME mod keyboard is the best all round followed by Swype in some regards. However, Swype disabling multi-touch in the browser kills its appeal on my end unless I'm using an app where I don't require the zoom feature.
And yep, Swype-ing words is faster, much faster, as odd as that might sound... simply because you don't have to hit the actual keys to bring the whole word up in prediction, and even when you hit a few wrong keys in a word, very surprisingly, Swype 99/100 auto-corrects the word or at least offers the correct word to choose -- far more forgiving than the other traditional keyboards. The detection, prediction and auto-correction are what make the product work. I basically scribble everything in if using it, and do it very fast with little error, less than a traditional on-screen keyboard if trying that much speed anyway (sure, there is an initial learning curve like with anything new. It 'aint a 2 day affair).

This is one major beef of mine on this phone too. It makes the landscape mode quite redundant in many usages.
I don't know of any such app yet.

I can't see why people like Swype over slide it.
I have installed Swype 3 times and each time go back to slide it. Swype although in beta just isn't as good.
For example when you want to do a double letter you need to do a stupid little circle over the letter. WHY? Also its not as accurate. Also I have consistently had a 40% fail rate with words.
Slide it is accurate, I hardly get any mistakes, it knows when you want or need a double letter. I can almost write as quick as if I were typing on a full size keyboard.
The only advantage Swype has is it looks good. I'm amazed people rate it over the far superior slide it.

How To use HTC_IME? how to mods it?
What I'd really like is to be able to use Swype in portrait, and HTC in landscape...
This is much better than all those:
Standard HTC Desire Keyboard with enhancements:

I have that one, still prefer Swype for portrait...

totally agree,i find swype to be awesome for portrait but a bit rubbish for landscape.
Ok so i recently switched over from my (broken) DInc to the DInc 2 and since there is no more trackpad (which i kinda miss) and since im running MIUI i need a way to get the sense keyboard with the arrows
The swiftkey x keyboard isn't as good as sense in my opinion, but there is an arrow key option on it and I use it whenever I'm on AOSP roms

Just found Ultra Keyboard, and it's AMAZING!!! Plus it's customizable as far as themes go. Plus, there's a keyboard by Steven Lin in the market that's pretty kool. It's the basic gingerbread keyboard, but it has arrow keys if you swipe up on the space bar.
I'm on the ViperX rom and I was wondering if it was possible to remove the keyboard arrows, I kind of like the Sense keyboard but those arrows taking up space are really annoying, anyone know anything about this?
I don't think so,i'm on stock ROM and i didn't find any option like that. You can use Swiftey keyboard if you like,i am using it and it's great, and you can add or remove the arrow keys if you like.
I second that, swiftkey keyboard is by far the best keyboard on the market; especially if you use mulitple languages as its very easy to download the languages (literally one click and youre all set).
With viperx Rom there is an option of hiding arrows. Look in buttons tab under venom tweaks

I was wondering, what are your guys favorite keyboards?
I really like the Sense keyboard, but the arrows are quite annoying, so the best for me would be the stock ICS keyboard, as it is pretty simple and very responsive and snappy.
I don't use any of that auto-correct crap either, what other keyboards can you guys suggest me? I've tried SmartKeyboard but I didn't really like the look of all their themes.
SwiftKey 3, nothing else gets even close to it.
Install that and forget about the others, believe me

Like I said, I don't use auto-correction, and I didn't find a way to disable it on SwiftKey at all.
Ok, thanks SwiftKey isn't the right for you because it's all about auto correct and word predictions.

I like the stock one and prefer to use it but if I had to change keyboards ( happened for some reason before ) I generally use Go Keyboard
Smart keyboard pro is quite good imo

Sorry for the old thread bump. Auto correct can be disabled (on the current version 3 i think) by going to advanced and selecting what space does. Change it to "always inserts space".
Also you can change your user profile to precision.
I use sense keyboard, and swiftkey 3. They are the best...for my fingers

If you are Running a deodexed ROM, you can use this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1612558
I installed it recently (on InsertCoin 9.6.2) and it works wonderfully!
Arabic Sense Keyboard
would you please help me find Arabic Sense Keyboard the official one (deodexed) that works with ARHD??
thanks in advance...
I use Swiftkey but it's a PITA that it doesn't allow you to set the height of the keyboard by numerical or slider values as I use a custom DPI.
A.I. Keyboard has a great implementation of this, you can slide the keyboard to any height you want.
I think at the moment though Swiftkey still beats it in auto correction accuracy, but I keep my eye on it each update.
I used almost every keyboard, but honestly I still think the stock Android keyboard is the best (Especially when I ran on Jelly Bean), and I hate the Sense keyboard, I don't know why.
go keyboard ! only beacuse the great themes
In Go Keyboard, is there a way to completely disable auto correct and hide the suggestions and language selection bar over the keyboard?
I love the themes for Go Keyboard but I also like my keyboard to be compact and since I don't use auto correct, I don't like to have any thing over my keyboard.
Last time I tried it, there was no way to remove that bar from the top of the keyboard. Is it there now?
Stock Jellybean Keyboard is my favorite, it's really fast.
Hey! If you like the Sense keyboard but without the arrows theres a theme you can install on top (HTC_IME) and you can choose your own colours too!
Right now im using bai du keyboard which actually is quite good theres a small row on top with numbers and you can do the swipe up and down for the alternative characters.

is there a way to get Sense 6 keyboard on Sense 7? Because this keyboard lags so much while it was so flawless in Kitkat/Lollipop
I realised that it lags only when you use auto correct.
Try disable it and it will be fine, or change it to Gboard, i find it very usefull.
