has anyone heard or seen whether the Touch Pro 2 will have a magnetic stylus. i know the diamond 2 doesnt but i hadnt seen anything about the touch pro 2
From the videos I have seen online, looks like it does. I am not 100% sure.
I saw a videoreview of the TP2 and it did not have a magnetic stylus, but It still did trigger the screen when you pull it out.
That's enough for me. A friend of mine has a Diamond 1 and he has lost 2 styluses. I would actually prefer my stylus to snap in place rather than having just a magnet hold it in place.
The TP2 definetly HAS a magnetic stylus and thats for sure. There was a quick hardware review on www.pda.pl and David confirmed that the stylus is magnetic
I have it in my hands right now and can tell you that the stylus is 100% not magnetic. But it does turn it on when you pull the stylus out.

you are so lucky to have this wonderful device. any thoughts, nags, concerns about the overall device
The unit I have has just locked - demo period expired - itself and I need to hardreset it - don't know how at the moment.
But I can say that it looks really great from the outside. Keyboard is fantastic. Even when I tilt the screen up I can still press numeric keys on the keyboard. I also love metalic rim on the top of the device, reminds me of iphone.
It feels much more solid than Touch PRO. Specially how the screen holds to the rest of device when you open and close it.
Even my girlfriend loves it and can't wait to get one .
I played with Xperia for some time this week and can tell you that this phone has much bettter feel - for me.
This phone even looks expensive and when I put it on the table besides Tuch PRO, HD or Diamond 2 (just did that ) it looks much better.
And, not to forget, the back is perfect - 100% no fingerprints. It's shiny and looks like cars body, metal silver/grayish metalic look.
Since I have most HTC phines at home I can say that this one is top of the line as for build quality (I don't know how would it perform over longer period of time), visual looks and feel.
Conclusion: this phone looks and feels great. I'm not easily satisfied and I know and own HTC phones since Qtek 2020 and can tell you that Touch PRO 2 is the best one I ever had in my hands. At the moment I would give it 9.5/10. Thats because it has no 3.5 mm headphone jack.
If only it would have a good camera so I could record good videos at 640x480... I did this with Diamond 2 and the video was not so good. Recorded a drive from home to work. Does not like fast moving too much .
I'll give the phone back today or monday at the latest and am sorry I could not run the software on it since it locked itself and I don't know how to hardeset it. All I manage to do is to send it in 3 color mode...
is the back cover made of entire plastic or are there any metallic parts?
It looks all plastic to me.
why would you want that anyway?
So it's plastic, nothing special, it just looks like it is made of mixed material. it still looks good though.
Can't wait till I can have a fiddle with it.
no it is not magnetic
... that sucks I thought a magnetic stylus would be pretty cool... but oh well
Doesn't really matter I think. I have lost a stylus already on the HD. So it's more secure using the clip on stylus.

with a clip on stylus, with time and use, the stylus usually loosens up, and becomes subject to falling out and being lost. so for me a magnetic stylus is a better deal.

I've had a Mio 168 (PDA/GPS), Mio A201 and a Mio P550. All these devices are with styluses that snap in place and I have never lost a stylus and that's everyday use on all 3 devices approx. 2years/device.

Agreed, I have had my P3600i for 2 years now and not lost a single stylus but lost my HD stylus within the first month. I have to be very careful with it now when I take it out of my pocket, so it doesn't drop off accidentally.

This is the case with my old MDA. I actually have to keep a golf tee in my pocket to use a stylus because I've lost all of mine. I use the stylus a lot, and wonder if whatever holds the thing in place with give way and loosen up.
I believe that everything is acceptable to wear and tear. That is natural. Is it fixable? If it is, then maybe get it fixed. I would rather replace one part of the phone every 2 3 years over replacing my stylus every other month. I guess we also have ourselves to blame for being uncareful. LOL.
I got a replacement from Amazon because my earlier defy had a random reboot problem. However now I have two phones with me and when I compare them, the newest replacement seems very plasticky. The black model of european seems to be like a bad paint job of white US model coated with a black paint. Also the volume rocker and power buttons make the plastic sound when pressed.
Is this the latest european model that is being released in the market. If yes, then most of you who bought these pieces have a sub-standard quality of this phone. I loved my old phone and the smooth finish with extra smooth buttons.
Any inputs from anyone?
I have a European version which exhibits none of the symptoms you describe.
Got mine at amazon(.fr) two weeks ago to replace my desire (it fell hard on the floor and the glass is now broken).
I see the exact same symptoms you describe: cheap power and volume buttons, and overall very plasticky look and feel. That was kind of a disappointment. Then i have been even more disappointed when i realized i wouldn't be able to flash custom roms - i miss my cyanogen.
Well, this is a kind of cheap android device and it sure feels cheap. Won't buy any another moto device nor would i recommend it, that's for sure. In the meantime i try to get the best out of it.
Your experiences sure are odd. If you had not both specified that you got your phones from Amazon, I would have thought you had used ebay and gotten some shoddy copies of a fine device.
That said, the phone does use a lot of plastic, but that is something that any review will tell you.
And who does not read at least one review before buying a device nowadays?
The same goes for what can be done, ROM-wise. I checked out XDA Developers before I clicked the final 'Purchase' button, so in that regard there were no surprises for me either.
Sure reviews tell you it uses plastic. But whatever you read, unless you experience it for yourself you don't really realize. Concerning the power and volume buttons, i didn't realize it wasn't normal until i read the op.
Beside, one only really reads what seems to matter at the time of the reading: this is a super-resistant device -- put it under water, throw it against the walls, hell, yeah, i'm all in. That's what got me on board, i didn't really thought about roms, and next time i will pay more attention.
So, yes, i'm a bit disapointed, but Android still is a great toy, even with *that* device.

I think you dint read my question quite right. What i opined was that my first defy which I just returned back to amazon was a gem. It has those buttons as soft as rubber and the body build itself was different. I used it for 4months and had to give it back to due some hardware problem. Now the one I got yesterday seems a completely different build. Now those are things that no review will be able to tell you right?. Something I thought I will share with other users. It might be that Motorola just started to produce this kind of cheap builds owing to surge in demand.
That said, no complaints on this one too. But i do miss that classic finish and soft soundless buttons.

Did you get a BT/BF or blue dot device from Amazon.fr?
I was planning on buying a Defy from Amazon but this is bad news...
Why is it so hard to get a decent Defy... First there was the earpiece problem, now this.
I got mine from clevertronic.de in mid November, think it wasn't even out on amazon.de by then.
I also thought that the power and volume button seemed rather cheap looking... and clacking (at the beginning I didn't know where that clacking sound came from, thought something was wrong with the drive or something).
But until now I thought that'd be normal so I didn't complain.
Really odd.
"I tought this was normal until I read this post"
I don't really understand these people complaining about previously-normal (to them) things. It's like when the fear spreads for a pandemic.
I have got a BT33 black european defy, and I repute the build quality excellent even for that price. Sure, it is plastic, but what did you expect from a €300 phone? Brushed aluminium?
Do you think that more expensive phones are all metal builds?
Just look at the Acer Liquid Metal: you can long see it from the pics it won't be nearly the same build quality of the Defy, that it will screak when held in hand. Despite the name, it only comes with a small strip of metal in the back. I also guess the front glass is not even glass, let alone gorilla glass. And that's for €50 more than a Defy.
Anyways mine has no creaking when squeezed in the hand, the back cover paint is soft-touch and well done, the front bezel is well built, glass is perfectly aligned, back cover not bulging, side covers intact, and the volume keys only make a slight click if I shake the phone.
You're all being too picky.
Mine is an all black European model. The buttons are plastic rather than rubber but they don't rattle about or click, and i've never thought of them as being cheap-feeling.
The paint finish on the screws did start to wear off pretty quickly though.
Also have the european black model, from november.
Plastic buttons that rattle slightly, and frontshell dont fit 100% with the backshell. Everything else looks quite expensive.
For around 300€ with the powerful hardware inside its a catch in my opinion.
Sent from my Defy
FWIW, T-MO USA just sent me a replacement Defy. Not the Euro model, of course. But the same high quality of my original and has the BT prefix.

What are you referring to with 'Euro model'? Do you mean the version with the white rubber section, as opposed to it being black?
I wasn't aware either was area/continent-specific, as both can be purchased in Europe.
If you are somehow implying that European build quality is less than.. well, the build quality of where-ever you are, I doubt there is any difference.
To strengthen my argument i am going to post snaps of the two variants tonight. Hopefully my wife should not have mailed it off to amazon.

I meant the phone mentioned above with the all black case. Not saying the Europeans don't know how to make good phones since they're most all made in China anyway (I hear there are some made in South America). But the poster was suggesting he had gotten a low quality phone. T-MO in the US only ships the phone with the white case, I believe.

Indeed, they're made in Asia - I would have suggested that as a counter, but seeing your reply, that's not necessary.
Ah, I see. I think some materials had to be different due to this phone being sturdier. Plastic and rubber can be very durable.

Hi fellow XDA roamers,
As promised, I'll be doing a quick review of the Ringke - Fusion (Smoke Black) for Sony Xperia Z3 Compact smartphone.
Here's the Amazon page : Fusion (Smoke Black)
And here's the official website (thanks to @sh4d0wf0x) : Rearth - Ringke Fusion
For some reason, I can't find any official website, not that I need one but sometimes it can help to make sure the product isn't coming from some cheap company.
After my desastrous experience with the CaseMate - Tough Case I was quite impatient to get this case, I even ordered it the morning I got the CaseMate.
I got it for a whopping 13 euros (there was a nice sale on it) instead of 30 and I received it in less than 4 days, another end of the year miracle !
Unboxing
When you receive this case, you know that your cash didn't went to the packaging, a simple translucent plastic bag with a pre-cut opening
The little bag contains the most basic accessories :
The case
A screen protector
A case template for cutting your own back image for the case
Yup, that's it... But who needs extras nowadays ?
At least everything is looking sharp and durable, this time the case fits perfectly the smartphone and doesn't leave any gaps.
It feels secure and looks nice altogether, I must say that this case is quite simple but does its job perfectly.
I haven't dropped my phone since then but I do think it will come unscathed.
A nice addition are little bumps on the back side of the case at each corners, so when the phone is placed on the back, the whole case isn't touching the surface and they're about 1 mm tall so they won't interfere with your hand.
As for the users who are wondering about the little USB hatch, it's still very easy to open (I don't have long nails) it and plug the power cord.
The only things that are going the wrong way are the back of the case that "stick" to the phone, sometimes you can see small succion marks but they can be removed with a simple pressure on the side of the case, and the other thing is that it attracts a lot of fingerprints... like a lot of cases...
The screen protections is like any other, nothing particulars about it, it's cut out for the speakers and led and it's mostly an expected thing from a phone case package.
Let's do a roundup !
The pros
Simple but still looks tough
Bumper protection has a nice rubber feel
Covers all the buttons and offer a little rubber cover for the headphone jack
Small bumps on the back
The cons
Small succion marks from the back of the case, the back of the case tends to suck to the back of the phone
Attracts fingerprints, grease marks & dust
Verdict
All in all, this case is living up to my expectations, looks simple but you can feel that the phone is protected and every little additions are welcome and useful.
This case clearly wipe away the bad taste that CaseMate left in my mouth, can't wait to receive the Orzly tempered glass to check if it all works together
Another review for you guys

Too bad for the dock
As for buying it, I can't give your an objective feedback since it's my first Android phone ever but from my experience and the research I've done before jumping in, it's one of the best phone for this kind of size.
This little monster is compact, fast like it's bigger brother and even better looking than him. As for the Sony bloatwares, there are like 10 apps pre-installed, I'm not using most of them but they're not threatening my experience so it's ok for me.
For the custom ROM scarceness, it's linked with the DRM removal associated with unlocking the bootloader. As developers unlock more and more functionalities, more ROM will become available. If you want more informations about that, feel free to look around the General section of the forums.
I'm not very fond of custom ROM (I'm new to this) so for now I'll stick with the stock one.
Buying this phone is more of a love @ first sight and personal tastes, so it's mainly up to you to decide whether you will throw your cash at the screen or not.
Thanks for the insight.
Yeah it'd be my 6th Android phone, with my first being the very first Android phone (HTC Dream).
I've pretty much always used a custom rom with the exception of using rooted stock on the Nexus 5.
The hardware is what appealed to me as well, but it doesn't seem like the software is going to cut it just yet. S:

Sorry I'm still using the USB cable to charge it but I've already made my mind to buy the Magnector X2 magnetic charger when I have the money, maybe later this year.
I bought both the Ringke and the Cruizerlite. I wanted to like the Ringke, but the left side along the charging port and the sd card port is just way to loose. I can't help but think it would even get looser over time and use. My phone wears the Cruizerlite and I'm very happy with it. The only thing I would change about the Cruizerlite is to make a version with a plain back on it.

Thanks for the insight, it's true that the left side is loose, but I'm not really complaining since I only manipulate this side when I need to plug the USB cable.
For now the Ringke is more than enough for me, the Cruzerlite seems a little bit flimsy for me and the way it blocks the USB section is bothering me. Maybe when I'll have a magnetic charger I will try this one.
I probably should have mentioned that I use the magnetic desk charger and I pair my phone with my PC over WiFi for any transfers, therefore I have no need to access the usb port.

Its the best phone I have owned and the ONLY android phone that I haven't rooted. There is no need.
Sony Skin is VERY minimal and I like the Sony Apps including the Walkman and Album. Nova launcher and a Lollipop Theme (Via Sony's own theming engine) has produced a phone I have ZERO complaints with.
Also the battery really is epic, I use stamina mode and have full sync of gmail, exchange, messenger, whatsapp, the lot and easily leave work with 70-75%
My only complaint like others have is the camera, normal lights its fantastic but low light over cameras beat it.
Trust me this is a great phone. And Lollipop is coming next month.
Seriously just buy one.

Hey all,
Recently received my Z3 compact and am loving it. The only slight niggle I have is with the case manufacturers, are there any cases similar to that of the official iPhone 6 (many apologies, I am unable to post a link just yet)
I liked the look of some slim cases, for example the terrapin hybrid, however the cut outs on the top left side of these cases leave the phone very exposed (i would much rather it be fully covered, apart from the magnetic charging port) and not structurally sound. I own the case-mate tough and the top left side is weak.
So I am curious if there are any cases out there that offer the quality and look of the iPhone 6 case mentioned above, not to mention the feel too. Whilst I am really happy with the Z3 compact, the 6's design sits in the hand well.
Many thanks guys!

ah sounds like the barely there case is better than the tough one. still, i am a bit hesitant to purchase from them again after feeling let down by the quality of their other case...

Understandable. But I also have to say, that people do feel differently about stability / product quality etc.
E.g. some people complain, that when you press against 1 corner of this case, you hear some "creaking" noises... and I can confirm that in general. But the point to me is, that in my usage (and I think I can honestly call me a power user) I just don't get to create that sound... so this doesn't matter to me. For me the pros are:
- stable (dropped already a few times.. absolutely no visible damage neither to phone nor case)
- super slim (charging in dock still perfectly possible)
- simple black color (I don't like fancy stuff)
- perfect material... never slipped in my hands even the tinyest bit
i'm using this one
