I'm such a dunce!!
I got a tempered glass screen protector and prepared myself for the worst....
I peeled off the factory applied one...
It peeled off WAY too easily... (Like the plastic film that you get on a new phone which is oh so delightful to peel off)
And... No chip!
It must have flicked up at some point and some fluff or something must have got in giving it the impression that it was chipped!!
Wow!! I've never been so relieved!!!
I'm disappointed with this screen protector though!!
Anyone have any suggestions for a decent one?? It makes a tapping noise when I type as it's not securely stuck to the screen...

I think that the protector that was on the screen of the new phone is just to protect it during transport, and not meant to be an actual screen protector. I immediately pulled it off after opening the box. Anyhow, I'm happy for you.

what a relief...

Glad it wasn't the phone's screen which was broken. The tempered glass reduces touch sensitivity too much. I use the same one that came with the phone but better quality and the ultra slim nilkin back tpu cover. The phone is not bulky and at the same time looking nice and with acceptable protection.

I just wanted to share with everyone that the Spectre Tempered Glass Screen Protector is now shipping.
I've never had this type of screen protector on my phone before, and it's a premium, but I'm even more excited and impressed after seeing their installation video. I'm sooo ready to get this cheapy screen protector off my phone that bubbled up. Hopefully this will be the end all solution to that problem and I'll report back!

[Update: 08/07/12]
I received mine today. I posted pictures below. I have a headache and I'm sleepy, so I will post a brief Q&A because I've been reading and I know there are some questions folks have been wondering that I can touch up on w/o a delay and I'll give it to you straight.
Q: How does the home button feel?
A: The home button is notably depressed. It operates as normal. Maybe a little awkward at first, but it's no big deal really. And to those thinking you are going to need to buy a raised home button, or a sticker..or something like that..you folks are going overboard with your imagination...bring it down a notch
Q: How was installation?
A: Very very simple and bar none the easiest screen protector I've ever installed. You see how fast he did it in the install video above. It's just like that. A few seconds and your done .. no waiting for nothing to dry, etc. etc...
Q: How does it fit in a case?
A: I have a clear gel tpu case on mine. My case does *not* fit over the screen protector. The edges are sitting pretty much flush with the top edge of the screen protector. I tried pulling it over, it was a no go. What I found is that this creates stress on the screen protector and caused it to lift at the top. I'll be looking into getting a different case to use with this screen protector. Maybe one that is a two piece, top and bottom section? The adhesive seems to be pretty good though. I was able to take my phone out of the case, push the screen protector back down. And I didn't have the issue for the day that I was using it.
Q: How about those *dots* I've been hearing about on the screen.
A: Bottomline, you'll notice them. When the screen is off or black, they are very visible. When the screen is on and you're holding the phone away..you're probably arn't going to notice so much. When you are holding the phone closer to you..they appear like little pixel crystals sparkling in the background. That's the best way I can explain it. Do I find it to be a deal breaker? Absolutely not..you'll just have to deal with it if you decide you want this screen protector.
Q: But the screen of the Samsung Galaxy S III is curved, and this is a glass screen protector that is straight, how does this affect the way it sits on the phone?
A: This is the biggest non-issue. You won't notice anything irregular here. So let that one go..
Overall, the screen protector looks great, there's no loss of sensitivity. [Perhaps even a better sensitivity then if you had any other type of screen protector on ur phone. It feels great.. after me typing the last 20mins.] I'll play with it for a few days and if there's something else needing to be touched up on I will .. otherwise I'd say it's a good purchase based on my initial impression. I happily took off my *wet* applied screen protector that was creating an eyesore because it was all bubbled up and applied this one.
So there you go!
And Please .. Press the thanks button if I've helped you at all..
That actually looks pretty impressive - My only concern would be having the home button be even more recessed. I'm already not too happy with how much effort it requires to press the home button. I know .4mm isn't much, but it's still less than without the protector.
I know .. me too ... but now that I see it written, versus having it said .. you know .4mm ... that's like next to nothing. But we'll see soon!
Yeah I ordered it one month ago, been rocking a cheapo xtremeguard screen protector waiting

wouldnt this also run the risk of being scratched (like the glass)? .. screen protector for this screen protector anyone?
has anyone installed it yet?
Honestly, i don't like the idead of having glass over glass. I had the Glass.T SGP on my GNote and didn't like it. Just my .02

Was it the feel of the glass? Was the image bad? Did it leave air bubbles?
What was wrong with it?
i dont really get this. what if it gets scratched?
I guess the only reason i didn't like it was because it messed with the usage of the S-Pen. Also it made the screen somewhat less responsive and inaccurate at times.

Lol, what's not to get? The whole idea of a screen protector is to protect the glass built into the phone (not easily replaced). If the protector gets scratched, that means it did it's job and should be replaced. At 8h it's far harder than even the most premium plastic screen protectors, and barely more expensive.
Seems promising but, I'll wait for some reviews before I'd seriously consider it.
I paid $27 including tax for a Zagg HD that performs in the $10-$15 protector range. This is $2 or so more delivered. I'm in.

I know itll get scratched, but its glass, when it gets scratched, its there, it will not heal itself like other screen protectors and this is not just those cheap ones that you can just change. And i do use use a screen protector on mine. Im just saying, for that price when it gets scratched, its going to stay there. But i know itll protect the screen underneath, and thats good. But for that price, changing it when it gets brutally scratched is a pain in the ass.
Is it really coming out?? So interested in but not sure how it's gonna adhere the curved edge. I know there are a lot of "curved" screen protector for now, but isn't glass too rigid for making it? If it works fine, I would love to buy one, but it's still risky to invest more than $30 for screen protector.

I think your main point here is really price. All screen protectors can get scratched, and when they do you replace them. This is certainly a "premium" product, and yes you have to pay more. This product certainly should be more scratch resistant than other screen protectors, so in theory you would need to replace it less often. More importantly to me, it is a real glass experience and feel, and should be perfectly clear.
Basically you are paying more for a more durable, clearer, easier to install, high quality screen protector.
Personally I would be interested if the quality is as advertised, I will wait for some ginny pigs to report their findings first though.

Why would this scratch less than other screen protectors? From my experience the GLASS screen tends to scratch easier than a screen protector. A good screen protector rather. So why wouldnt you buy a good screen protector that does not easily scratch vs a piece of glass that would scratch just as easily as the screen plus is more expensive than the other types of screen protectors

The hardness scale goes from 1H to 10H with diamonds being the top dog. This product is marketed as 8H tempered glass meaning only (9-10)H stuff can scratch it. Regular glass is 5.5H.

Do you use a screen protector?

Does anyone use a screen protector on their Nitro? Has anyone actually been able to scratch the screen?
I was looking into a Ballistic HardCore case, but I see that it comes in a full housing and the plastic screen protector on it kind of ruins the view of the IPS display (one of the major selling points of the Nitro). So with Gorilla Glass 2 coating is it really worth it to lower the display quality a little bit to get the protection?

Yes. I dropped my nitro and the screen cracked, a couple of days AFTER i removed my screen protector. So yea. You should.
I cracked my screen after dropping it while it had a protector on it.
I took mine off I've had it off quite a few months now the glass is tough but I did manage to scratch it. I work construction and I'm very hard on my phone.
I can be bothered with anymore screen protectors they just mark up and dull the screen.
Over all this phone has fallen upwards of 15 ft and I've been lucky its held on well.
I also don't use a case at all.

You sir, are lucky. Mine has fallen a distance of 3 ft and cracked my screen... twice. Both with and without a screen protector.
If you want to go with just a screen protector, I recommend Zagg, just put it on right. You don't even notice the "orange peel" look with the screen on; in fact, I don't even realize I have a screen protector on when the screen is on. The Ballistic case is very sturdy though, and after my replacement digitizer comes in, I will be using it again. Another point to consider, if you have the extended battery, the ballistic case will not fit.

No screen protector will stop a crack from a drop a the right angle, but they should all protect from scratching. I am weary on using the Ballistic HardCore case since it will add so much bulk and take away the beauty of the screen with it's plastic window. It pretty much makes the phone just short of bullet proof though, so I can see why people spring for it.
I just ordered some Xtremegaurd ones since there is a 80% off coupon code. Zagg would have been nice, but not enough money for that. Will report back and state whether or not it takes away from the screen.
I'd recommend ghost armor aswell, doesn't dull the quality at all.

Yeah, Ballistic is definitely tough. As you pointed out, the only real flaw I see with it is the plastic screen cover. And about the size; I have an extended battery. The only real world difference I notice between the Ballistic case and the extended battery + cover is the contour. I know it is bigger all around, but I just can't notice the extra size; just the different shape.
I have been tempted to try popping the plastic cover out of the case and just using the Zagg protector.. it's not like the plastic cover keeps water from getting in, or dust from getting in, or as an extra layer of protection against drops...
I've scratched my screen a little. One decent scratch. I ordered a refurbished ballistic hc with no screen protector.

I dont use screen protectors. Cant stand them. I barely have a belt bag for mine althought i might get a BarelyThere cover. Its feels very good just the phone itself without cover unlike the first 2 Atrix models, which i had. I hardly drop my phones or even scratch them. The only phone i ever damaged digitizer was my first touch pro2 with keys in my pocket. It was no biggy but the scratch was there. Since then if i use phones in pockets i make sure nothing else is there.

See? This is the kind of stuff that makes me debate whether or not I want to enjoy the naked screen to use a protector and lose some clarity.
Isn't Gorilla Glass not supposed to scartch? Decisions decisions.

Zagg all the way then! I honestly can't even tell I have a screen protector on my phone when I'm using it. I see no loss of clarity, but I also gain the good conscious of knowing my screen won't scratch if I accidentally shove my phone in my pocket with my keys and some pocket change or if I happen to set it face-down, or anything else.
And Gorilla Glass is only scratch resistant, but that doesn't mean it's scratch-proof. The first few months I had my phone I made absolute certain I never put it in my pocket with anything that could damage it, I cleaned it with the rag I use to clean my glasses, and just overall watched over it like a hawk. Somehow I still managed to put a couple barely noticeable scratches on the screen. So I would say at the very least, go with a screen protector... also, in the off-chance that you DO end up shattering your digitizer, that screen protector will keep trash from having the rather unlikely opportunity to get inside and wreak havoc on your LCD if the break is bad enough.

Basically, the screen will scratch whether or not it's gorilla glass if it comes into contact with sand. You'd be surprised at how often that can happen. Metal is softer than the screen so it can't scratch it.

That tidbit of information means that a few grains of sand in your pocket are more likely to scratch a screen than rubbing against pocket change or keys. Even the Ballistic case will let debris get inside the case and between the screen and the plastic cover. I don't know how many times I would thoroughly wipe the screen and the case, carefully put it together, and admire how clean it was. Drop it in my pocket for a little bit and pull it out only to find specks of pocket lint under the plastic. It was a never-ending cycle!
nope, had Armor and took it off. still scratch free

[Q] Screen Protector?

I scratched my screen earlier today and so removed the stock protector which thankfully was the only thing scratched, screen is still good but I was wondering how tough is the naked screen against scratches?
I was thinking of getting another screen protector but firstly I suck at putting the thing on, and secondly not sure whats the better type to go. Ebay sell tons of cheap ones just not sure if they are any good, or would naked screen be ok?
Thanks :good:
I have a what you call a 'naked' screen xD
And since then I don't have any scratches which I had first. I'm happy I've done it

Naked screen. 18+ topic.
Powered by TVR with Android 4.1.2 on the board.
Cheap screen protectors are the ones that are a bit harder to put on. If you are prone to damaging phones get a screen protector, if not you could try it without one. Look at decent ones like spigen sgp series.

Jokes aside with naked screen but I would not recommend leaving screen without protector. Sony devices do not have screen as tough as other brands and it will be prone to cracks and scratches.
What I would do is go to your local mobile retailer/service centre and ask for good screen protector for your device. They usually carry different brands from cheapie foils to heavy duty screen protectors. They will also clean your screen with appropriate agent (like isopropyl alcohol) to get rid of any grease/dust and apply your protector for a small fee.
Unless you like trashy look of your handset I strongly recommend good screen protector and rubber case or flip-out case. Ever put your keys and small change in a pocket together with your phone? I would still use my ancient handsets if not my carelessness. I only change them when I destroy them by being stupid
What do you mean with stock screen protector? I bought my Ion in ebay with some scratches on screen but the screen does not look flat on borders.. Does it have a stock screen protector? What If i peal it off and damage the screen

If there is a thin layer (you need to look closely) that you can peel off then you can peel it and apply another fresh one. Peeling it will not damage anything but leaving 'naked' screen will expose it to scratches and cracks because it not only acts as a protective layer against scratches but also applies some surface tension to the screen that makes cracking or shattering it a bit harder.
There was a review of different kinds of handset screen glass and Sony generic scratch resistant mineral glass is not as tough as other phones with toughened screens (only Xperia J and SP have patented "gorilla glass" same as in HTC, iPhone, LG, Nokia and Samsung) and only latest Xperia models got upgrade to shatter proof and scratch resistant glass from undisclosed manufacturer.
Again, I recommend to buy a good screen protector instead of just cheap thin foil that will easily be torn when rubbing against car/home keys misplaced in your pocket.

I got a tiny scratch that you barley on my G3 and bought a glass screen protector right away, its great, and I don't really notice it, well worth the money,
What people don't understand about gorilla glass is that its still glass no matter how strong it is, all those videos of knives on the screen don't make sense since metal doesn't usually scratch glass anyway, but put some sand near it, even one grain and you got hella scratches, I'd do it, but only the glass screen protector, plastic ones are ugly, leave bubbles and are hard to apply.
Trust me my S5 got scratched within a month all over + my s2 as soon as I took off the protector, Just from keeping it in my pocket
I put one on straight out of the box.
Currently got a plastic one on. No bubbles if you put it on properly.
Probably will get a glass one though when I know the phone has no faults and doesn't need to be sent back.

Haha that's dedication using the phone with the original screen cover on!
I took the original cover off and put a Spigen protector straight on. Didn't even have to wipe smudges or dust off, a lot easier like that [emoji3]
I've been using the stock protector from Verizon-- never pulled it off, it only blocks a little bit of the bottom buttons, and while it's a bit of a fingerprint magnet I figure it's perfectly applied/aligned (no dust specks or bubbles), etc. That said I don't expect it to look pristine for too much longer.
I ordered some of the Illumishield protectors from Amazon, I know someone who's used them and it looks nice. If the Verizon one's fingerprints start getting to me (or the "Audio Jack" and "Charging port" writing gets too obnoxious) I'll try one. Not sure I am ready to make the jump to tempered glass yet...
I've been using skinomi on all my phone's. Nice screen protector.
I put one on my device the second I got it, but I noticed a scratch on my screen when switching screen protectors, so I just run 100% naked now.

As the question in title goes, how many of you here are not using a screen protector on your Oneplus 3/3T? What's your experience so far without one? Any good or bad?
As for me, after going through probably a dozen of screen protectors (both TGSP and films), I have decided that it's time I should just not bother with screen protectors anymore, since none of them provide a good/smooth experience as compared to the beautiful naked screen

Ozyl 2.5 works pretty good except for a few rainbows effect at times.

I felt exactly the same when I bought my 3T, I'm using it without any screen protector. Now it has been 5 months since I got it and it's in perfect condition, no scratch at all, etc. The screen can for sure handle some coins or keys in a pocket without any protection.

Yup, I've also used the Orzly v2. Couldn't stand the rainbow effects so removed it

My phone pocket is always dedicated for my phone only, never keep anything else like keys/coins with it anyways

Been using mine without a screen protector for around 5 months now. Not a single scratch.
I didn't like how bouncy the original screen guard was so i replaced it with a curved, full cover one. But i didn't like the dotmatrix bull**** so i got rid of it.
I actually don't need a screen guard or a case since i almost never drop anything.
EDIT: I also don't put anything other than my phone and maybe tissues in my pocket.
I used the Orzly Screen protector for about Two weeks in December when I first got the phone. Hated it so threw it away and went without one ever since. I use a Spigen Rugged Armor case and that is it. No nicks or scratches so far. I keep it in a pocket by itself all of the time. I remember dropping it twice but it landed on the corners both times and didn't even damage the case..
I tried Orzly V2 but the rainbow effect in the screen was a s**t... So, i tried the rhinoshield: id does not cover all the screen (1 millimeter on the left and 1 mm on the right) but for the moment is the best protector I've ever seen.
I've been using my phone without a screen protector since I've had it and the only way you can see any tiny little surface scratches is with a head torch on and scrutinising the screen surface. As another member has mentioned, I have been using just a Spigen rugged armour case and that's it. The screen won't get badly scratched if you are careful enough, I'll happily accept some light scratches just as part of the wear and tear process.
I have from today started trying an orzly glass screen protector purely because I have fitted a new phone holder bag thing to my road bike and I feel I mike get scratches on the screen through taking it in and out. The orzly isn't bad, especially for the money, but I can see why people don't like it.
Once a screen protector shows its first bubble i remove it. Annoying otherwise. Screen protectors are just worthless to me. Dont expose your phone screen to anything other than your pocket or finger. Get a case with a lip lift so settings your phone down sets it on its case not the screen. Screen protectors are mostly plastic anyway so you get that nasty plastic feel aside from the feel of a touchscreen panel. The feel of using a touchscreen alone is enough to not want the screen protector for me.

Glad i could help. Last time i used a screen protector it was ruined rifht when i put it on. The reason gorilla Glass exists is to prevents scuff and scratches. Screen protectors give it unnecessary help. Its already protecting against shattering and scratches. If you are scratching the screen with normal use then cut your fingernails. Or take the acrylics off, theyre ridiculous anyway.
I'm without any screen protector as well.
As mentioned the only scratches I see are those tiny ones which can be only seen under direct sunlight or under torch and on specific angle.
My heart stopped one day when I dropped my phone straight onto marble, was already searching for rs10000 but the screen fell flat and absorbed the impact, there was not even a scratch on the screen.
Been using from a month without screen protector or back cover, just a skin.
Going pretty well till now, specially when you put sky blue wallpaper with naked screen it shines quite unique.
Maybe you could try.
I've never been a fan of screen protectors. My phone screen is bare and still is as good as new.

My goodness!! That's probably the strongest phone screen survival from a fall I have ever heard of! Lucky you indeed
Ahh, I'll take note of the sky blue wallpaper for when I change my wp next time. Cheers

Actually it fell exactly parallel to the floor, if it was tilted even a few degrees, screen would have cracked.
Yeah lucky me
I use mine without a screen protector and case. I use a dbrand skin black/red to cover the back and not get a y scratches. For the screen it doesn't have a scratch since I got it. Whenever I put a screen protector or tempered glass, the screen gets blurry and/or not clear.

Yup, I know. And the screen just does not feel right with a screen protector on!
