Who's back? We're back.
CarbonROM is an aftermarket firmware based on the Android Open Source Project. We are dedicated to fast, stable, and feature-filled roms, honesty and communication with our users, and openness with our code. We like frequent builds, with the very latest and greatest hardware support and fixes. We strive to not only provide you with the best rom we can build, but also to give back to the Android community and our fellow developers. For us, this is about creating something we can be proud of and hope you will enjoy.
Please feel free to look, build, and use our code at CarbonROM's GitHub... and at CarbonROM Gerrit.
Disclaimer:
While we make every effort to test these builds as much as possible, we are not responsible for anything that may happen to your device, family, pets, or perception of reality. We ask that you do your part to know your device and know how to recover from problems before you flash! If you have questions, ask your fellow users or ask us in #teamcarbon on freenode IRC.
Support:
We spend an astonishing amount of time developing this software. We can't spend much time on XDA as a result, so if you need support, please try the following:
1) Search. Search, search, search. Yes, you. I don't care how unique or important your question is, it's very likely someone has adressed it already. Especially if you're even close to new at this.
2) Read our FAQ, which can be found on our website. Carbon FAQ
3) Ask a question in your device forum. Someone will no doubt try to help you. Warning: this help may come in the form of telling you it's a dumb question that has been asked before. See step 1 - such are the perils of asking questions when you haven't done the research yourself. Android is about helping yourself.
4) Ask a question on our IRC channel. Connect to #teamcarbon on irc.freenode.net or click here. You'll find several other Carbon fans and usually one or more devs as well. Please be polite.

Oh man, who do we thank?
There are just so many roms out there that have been a part of the crafting of this project.
Big shout outs to AOKP, Dirty Unicorns, Pure Nexus, and all CarbonROM team members for the rom features.
Also thanks to Flash ROM and AOSPA for their changes that make the rom fly.
Thanks to all the donators who help keep servers running
Thank you. Been running this rom for a few hours, learning the ins and outs of it. I wish it would detect the sim card though. Any pointers on that would be appreciated. Again, thank you I'm looking forward to this rom!
I have also installed this ROM and love it but it doesn't detect sim
Wow!!...Carbon ROM is Back!!....Oh man gonna dld this right now! gotta see what you guys are up to now!
Sweet but no root!...Flashed latest SuperSu, but it didn't take??....Do I have to change FS?

Ok, Thought of it, but didn't think to use it at this preliminary stage. I 'd been using Magisk with some other ROMs, so maybe I'll try that then. Thanks for the ROM it's ...."Responsive" and thanks for the advice. Keep it up. I loved the KitKat version and still have a backup copy of it on sd. Awesome!

Just grabbed an AT&T SIII for my wife to use for a bit as her S6 Active died yesterday (water damage...after two years of baths, showers and pools...on an S6 Active...*sigh*) and am looking for a ROM to run as I had forgotten how much GARBAGE old Android devices came with. Will keep an eye on this as the SIM card is somewhat important. lol

Root with Magisk install but still seem to be losing it after reboot. Also still not recognizing SIM. Still needs a few tweaks i guess.
Ok! So the latest weekly (20170530-0823)has solved the SIM Bug Although I haven't actually made a call yet, just downloaded it, dirty flashed and I realized that the I had sim recognition, did a check on my balance and that worked.
The previous Magisk Manager.zip I flashed on other ROMs doesn't seem to be working with this one and now that Magisk Manager has been removed from the Play Store the best way is to install XDA Labs and download it from there.
Been hoping carbon would come back, my favorite since droidx days....

Well regarding the 'Magisk issue'; for some reason, when I do certain tasks, in certain apps, I get the report that I have no Root! And I've also discovered that after reboot the same thing applies so I'm trying to isolate the culprit, could be an app! I've since installed Root Checker to make doubly sure as to the status of the device at all times, so I too am still unsure.
literally just obliterated my S7 so i pulled the S3 out of the desk drawer, of course running slower than paint drying, found this thread and cant believe its coming back and for the only phone i have available lol. going to flash this asap, im rooted on stock 4.4.2 kitkat atm. flashing as i type using flash fire:good::good::good:
This rom is awesome, very fast. I tested most functions, and the only real issue was the compass, which is way off and caused navigation to be wild, that's a deal breaker. It didn't recognize my titanium files on my ext sdcard, so I moved them to internal. The vanilla music didn't see my music by default, although poweramp did, manually selecting the folder in vanilla worked. I also didn't get root with no frills cpu, all other root apps worked tho. If the compass worked, I'd ditch intergalactic.. This rom is snappy and smooth as butter.
Another issue I have found is when I tried to video call on messenger can only see me on back camera and has no sound I turned on the permissions but still shows other person that my camera is off ... Just putting it out there

Dirty Unicorns 11 Nougat LG G4 [H815/H811]
About Dirty Unicorns:
Dirty Unicorns is a project that started out with no name. It was a project that was first based off AOKP back in the early days of Jelly Bean. In the early days it was just a one man show on one device, the EVO 3D. Since then, many others have joined the project and it has grown exponentially.
We have seen a lot of talent contribute to this project of ours. Big or small, the focus was always on contributing to the community. That is ultimately why we do what we do. After Jelly Bean, we decided to move to a new base, OmniROM. While AOKP was fun, OmniROM proved to be even more exciting base because it challenged us to see what we could do with a project that had different goals in mind. We learned a lot and again, gain contributors. With Lollipop, we moved to an AOSP base with a lot of patches from CAF to make our older devices function as they should. We grew even more and learned a whole lot more.
It has been an awesome learning experience and is still not over! We are still learning every day and continue to move forward. Lastly, we DO NOT accept, nor ask, for donations. We don't believe in that. Everything that is necessary to keep this project going is out of our own pocket. Gerrit, Jenkins, Websites, Devices, etc. We will never ask for a dime. All we do ask, is that you have patience, search, read and try to enjoy the process with us!!

Currently I think there are no plans to add more governors.
When DU merges 7.1 I will update, too, of course.
features ? any pictures ? any error report ? downsides and benefits ?
does this mean that this new android 7 dirty unicorns is exactly the same with the previous android 6 version ?
There Is a good camera app for nougat or the stock it's still superior?

I'll add some screenshots later.
Currently it's pretty much the same as the DU MM version -- of course ported to N and with security patches..
Only problem I discovered until now is that the DPI changer (which is now included in Nougat AOSP) is a bit buggy ("very small" cannot be selected).

Dude just yesterday I learned compiling ROMs and now you request one for another device
Seriously that's not a top priority for me currently, but if I look at this and this I have to say that a h811 release seems quite possible. I cannot say when or even if this will happen but I'll have a look at it for sure :highfive:

Yeah, of course.. Actually this was me trying to say "Why don't you do it yourself? It's all there.." but humorously .. :highfive:
Because I cant, don't have a build box to do so mate. If I would have one long time I would of since I used to maintained DU and all other ROMs like Tesla and Validus.
So now I'm at square one from Dev recognized contributor here to just an user asking for stuff. Lol

Known Issues:
Currently the SIM card is not working if SuperSu is flashed. Because SuperSu is included with DU by default to have a working SIM card you have to remove SuperSu after flashing (go to SuperSu's options, select Unroot and confirm twice).
To get root back I recommend using phh's SuperUser: Get the flashable zip from http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software-hacking/wip-selinux-capable-superuser-t3216394 and flash it. Then go to the app store and install phh's SuperUser app.

Hi there, I'm not having this issue. :good:
Just had to restore my backup, as my device didn't appear to be accepting a charge. The charge indication displayed as expected, but the percentage wouldn't increase over the course of an hour.
Do you have any ideas? It was a clean install, with MoAB hostsfile being the only installed mod.

No, sorry, can't reproduce this with a clean flash from today's build..
But I can confirm that SuperSu works now without breaking SIM card :good:

Regardless thanks for keeping the device alive you and the Oct os team are crushing it. Sidenote it would be nice to see close all but foreground app in recents, quick unlock when correct pin is entered on lock screen, scrollable small qs, couldn't remember if there was an auto brightness button next to brightness slider but these are all such handy features. If I could dev I'd do it myself lol but if it doesn't happen I'm still a happy camper.
I just stopped by to say thank you for this ROM. Best performance out of any 7.0+ ROM I've tested (way better than even LOS) and battery life is up there with one of the best I've seen too. Props to you and once again, thanks for this ROM.
I see that a new version was posted on May 30th. Does this update remedy the voice, and data issue?

Thanks for pointing this out! I've been trying to figure out the issue for weeks (but without an activated device, I cant test well). I'm shocked it works, as this build doesn't have any of the fixes I've tried, almost like magic that it works.

Yeah most of the roms have been working without dirty flash. It's nice.
I'm really liking this ROM. Has all the goodies I've been missing on lineage. Has all the stuff I miss about gravity box. Very nice work!
Passed safety net with magisk too.
Just installed the newest weekly, and loving it so far. I've noticed two things off the bat though, one is the gesture option in settings crashes as soon as selecting it so I can't set the screen to wake from a hand wave, and the other is I can't find an option to disable the hardware button lights. Am I just missing it?

Notice:
In order to install GApps, you must flash the ROM then reboot into TWRP before flashing the recommended MindTheGapps GApps package (as this switches slots).
Also, we know the default wallpaper on is black. We know it's caused by the RRO overlays on vendor and unfortunately we can't change the default (yet?), you can change it manually without complications though.
We know it’s complicated, but it sure is worth it!
Install Instructions:
Flash the newest factory images on both slots
Move your ROM + [GApps] + TWRP.zip to your internal storage
Boot the TWRP.img > Check what Slot you're on (Reboot Menu) ->Wipe Data & Cache -> Flash the ROM as well as the TWRP.zip
Either Reboot to system or, in case you want GApps, reboot to recovery via TWRP (Reboot -> Recovery)
Check and confirm that you are on the opposite slot from Step 3. If not, switch to it and reboot the recovery again (Reboot Menu) -> Flash GApps (and whatever else you want to flash -> Reboot to System -> Enjoy CarbonROM

Had to reverse engineer a lot of google code to get Now Listening to work, and now that I know what I'm doing, active edge is up next

Anxious to try this!
@frap129
Do you happen to know if the rom (in its current state) supports activation of the Project Fi E-sim? I still have my old sim card from my Nexus 6p, but just curious? And if not would that feature come in the future?
Also do you guys have a donation link??

It should, AOSP supports eSim and I didnt see anything specifically about Fi in the stock frameworks.
Edit: Donation link will be added to the OP shortly
Awesome! Thanks for this. Glad To see development taking off.

I believe @Ericarthurc tried with the other ROM and it didn't work. I'm in the same boat as well with Fi.
Just flashed LOS yesterday and it's running perfect. I'll give this a go this weekend. Thank you for releasing this to us. So glad to see development starting to churn. Looking forward to the future of this device!
@JagXK8 So I just installed the ROM and project Fi was "pre activated"? Under sim settings I have my phone number and mobile data is work with e-sim. I even just took a phone call. the weird thing is I installed the project Fi app and it says "error cant activate due to problem with sim"? I am going to try and systemize the project fi app and see if that fixes the issue.
---------- Post added at 11:46 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:41 AM ----------
So I flashed the rom and project fi was already activated (e-sim). There is no project fi app installed on the device, so I installed it from the app store and it was giving me an activate error in the app, I tried systemizing the app but that didn't change anything. I just uninstalled the project fi app and I am still activated. So I have no idea how its working? But it is?
What about support the Pixel 2??

I recommend OpenGapps.
Flashing procedure is
Flash Carbon
Flash TWRP
Reboot to recovery (this switches slots, it's important)
Flash GApps
Done
is anyone else having trouble with Gboard themes on this ROM? If I pick a gradient theme it just hangs and crashes.
I flashed this with Mini gapps first and had a hard time getting through setup, tried again with pico with more success.

I flashed the micro package and can't even get past checking for updates. The data transfer tool keeps just keeps crashing.
Edit: Tried flashing the pico package instead and now device health services keeps crashing.
Has anyone tried razorloves' MindTheGapps package?

How to flash if I only want twrp temporary? Same way?

Leave out the "Flash TWRP" part and replace "reboot to recovery" with "reboot to bootloader and boot the twrp image"
Not judging but simply confused...
I see people not wanting to install twrp and it just makes no sense to me why I would want to limit my options and functionality.
It's been like almost a year since twrp had been totally stable for me with no decryption or touch issues.
Again, what is it folks are afraid of??
I'm digging how clean and fast this ROM is. Hopefully you get your server issues resolved soon.
Trying this out again! Carbon was the first ROM I've ever used on my Pixel 2 XL and absolutely loved the experience.

So do I... We already have a new host because we're fed up with the old one. Currently waiting for the old one to finally answer our support ticket and bring the server back on so we can move our data to the new server and can call it a day with the old host.
Has anyone tried installing NanoDroid with this?
I went from factory image -> flash rom -> flash twrp -> reboot recovery -> flash magisk -> flash full nanodroid.zip
This leads to a bootloop until it boots back into recovery
When I try to set up any password, it does not let me proceed after the second test. Confirm gets grayed out

The issue here would be magisk. You usually need to boot to the system at least once before you can sucessfully flash Magisk. Don't know the reasons but it's seems to be an ongoing theme on A/B devices. Same happens on my OP6 and 6T

So theoretically I need flash the rom in 'A,' flash magisk on 'B', boot into the system once, reboot recovery into 'B,' and then install nanodroid?
Edit: Well I ignored Magisk and rebooted to recovery to install nanodroid after rom installation and it booted back into recovery unfortunately.

Public Service Announcement
This is an unofficial build for Oreo (8.1.0).
Given timing of achieving this and the likelihood that as of July the big G dropped support of Oreo (among other issues), official status does not look promising now.
If you see something out of place, please post with logs.
At this point there will be no feature requests for this Android Oreo, just looking to stomp out any bugs that remain.
FYI, if you rather hang with Nougat, I have also posted some recently discontinued builds (have used them extensively, but for these you are on your own in terms of support).
Enjoy!
@OfficerJimLahey well this is something I will look forward to flash. You will have full logs whatever I can help you with. Will flash asap and report with oreo. Never thought carbon will be here like this. ?
I played the rom once. So far I have found no mistakes. Will report in the next few days! Thanks in advance

We were never far. I have been working on this for well over a year, with that side journey in Nougat. But until recently, there were ... problems on Oreo.

No problem! Glad to have the kernel issues sorted out (squid2 being the one to thank for that) to make this possible.
Thanks for the New life to Lux.
Its Supercool Rom. Magisk is also working. Changed the dpi to 400 which makes it awesome!
It just seems as Active display is not working as it should be.. when i hold the device, it doesn't display the notifications till i click on the power button.
Anyways Thanks Dev!

I have install the ROM on my moto x play ans it's work very well.
Open gapps pico work, camera it's ok, NFS it's OK.
But it's impossible install xda labs. But another aps it's ok
Original charger?
Battery drain doesn't seem all that different from (Moto Stock) Nougat to me - since the WiFi is a pig for battery.

Oh that. New in Android O, you can set other apps to be trusted in installing. Much better than Google Play or always allow unsigned apps. So the app you used to install it just wasn't trusted for the job (yet).
