I just rooted my new M10 and find that the volume for both ringtone and calls is markedly lower. This happened also on my M9 and I thought it was just my imagination, but now that I'm experiencing the same symptom on both devices, I was hoping that someone might be able to help me track it down. Is it a setting perhaps in build.prop or elsewhere that somehow got changed when rooting and going S-Off?
What method are you using to obtain root?...flashing: a pre-rooted ROM, SuperSU, or Magisk?

I never noticed that myself, but you can flash Viper4Android to increase gain/volume.

Downloaded V4A and... wow, there's a lot goin' on there. What settings would I use if I just wanted to simply bump up the volume on the speakers a bit?

Under the phone speaker tab, turn on "eXtra loud" I would assume. I've never used V4A for phone speakers myself.
Also under the same tab, you can increase the output gain in "Master Gate".
For me, I mostly use it to boost volume and tweak audio setting for bluetooth

My notification volume is set on max, but it's still too low except for quiet environments. Is there a way to boost the volume past max? Searched the android market but it seems all the solutions require rooting.
My phone is stock, and I don't get the loss of signal bug, so I don't really want root it as I've heard rooting may contribute to the LOS.
I would also like to be able to boost volume more.
i think volume+ in the market works without rooting

Volume+ app description says not to use it on stock ROM unfortunately
actually, I was using it before i rooted and it worked well for me..
Anyone come up with a volume hack for headphones? On the g2 you could edit the mixerpaths file. Im rooted without twrp and tried that and got stuck in a nice bootloop and had to push the stock rom thru adb to get back up. Once i get twrp i can run thru some settings. Just wondering if anyone else is bummed out by this low volume.
I can say my phone don't need volume boost. Phone sounds great. Have to turn it down. Sounds way better than note 3
The speaker is fine. Although I wish it could go up by one or two when I'm listening through headphones.

Ooops yea edited my post to reflect that im talking about headphone volume.
I had a chance to play YouTube on G3 through speaker.
The speaker is nice if it's not louder than S3.
I'll take a crack at it. I'm at work now but ill see if i can figure it out in the am

Partially hijacking this thread, but does anybody know if there's a hidden way to disable the safe volume warning every time I plug in my headset? This is the most annoying thing on this phone, especially if I do a quick travel to n from lunch and work, I have to keep pressing the volume button again n again. I know most likely it's baked into the ROM, but maybe someone knows something.
OP, you sure this is not the problem you're facing? At first I thought I had gone all the way on the volume, but I realized I had to press it again to boost the volume to the max.

Nah I wish. I just like really loud music. The phone is capable of doing much higher levels with a few slight tweaks. I'm sure for most its loud enough.

Not sure if this is what you are looking for but, G3 Tweaksbox has this option. It is under sound tweaks. Then check "Disable Safety Headset Volume"

Viper4Android
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2191223
1. Download & extract the version for android 4.4, then install it
2. Open Viper4Android, choose quality, let it install the special driver and allow root. You may need to update busybox, it will prompt you if necessary.
3. Reboot
4. Open V4A, press the 3 dots at top right, change UI to "Moderate"
5. Swipe to "Headphone" tab, enable master power & playback gain control, scroll to bottom of page, change output gain to +0.8 or +1.6

I tried the V4A version and I must say it did make a bit of a difference in sound boost but one of the main things I use the headphones for at times is making phone calls. When I tried to make a call the volume of the call still sounded low. Is anyone else experiencing this? I have Sirius radio installed and you tube and sound on both definitely improved a bit. I wanted to try the other method by modifiying the path files but I heard some issues causing boot loops and it pretty much scared me away. I'm also still trying to figure out how to install TWRP on my LG G3 since I rooted it manually, I can't figure out how to get it on my device. Any help would be appreciated.
EDIT: Finaly got TWRP on my device.
It's not a problem with the phones volume control but with your hearing ability.
I had hearing tests done last year at the clinic and they said I had very good sense of hearing... kind of a weird thing. Anyways, I can get it to about 75% volume and it's extremely loud. Any more than that is painful.

Here you can adjust the max volume output for different parts of the system, start with Normal Mode to set the max overall volume. Be careful with the values you set and take a screenshot if you need to restore your values...
P.S! Do i need to say; dont change anything that you are not sure what it will result in!

This is the only way I have found to reliably increase my volume:
Speaker Boost
I usually set it around 19-21%. Runs in the notification tray and occasionally needs to tap just to restart it.
Worked on stock and currently working fine on Eragon 7.0 alongside Viper4Android.

I had that on Eragon 6.7, the older stock ROMs seemed to work ok, and Eragon 7.0 seems fine too. I could never work put what was stopping it working. All the other volume apps seemed to be abject failures and in some cases downright fraudulent - they just erm....turned your volume slider up!
Are you on stock or Eragon?

Hey guys,
atm I'm facing towards a problem like on the screenshots
<---https://goo.gl/photos/UQXesg48QwZLZTyy5--->
I'm not sure how this could happen but i think this is from an xposed module. Someone maybe know what i have to modify to put it right. Atm my minimum volume is 14%. Can't lower the volume from that point.
I tried formatting userdata, system or better said, I clean flashed my phone but this changed nothing actually.

If you're on Open Beta 8 it's a feature of the ROM. I'm not sure why its the case but many people are reporting this, only way to get to vibrate is silent mode.

You can be right, since I'm not sure when this issue started. At OOS3.2.7 i tuned my volume with some xposed modules and after that I flashed the CB3.5.5. Maybe its because I'm using the beta. Can you refer me some points where ppl reporting this? I haven't found anything yet on xda or on the oneplus forums. At the moment I'm using your suggested way for turning the phone into vibrate. Sometimes I want to silent my phone completely and have to go into settings to turn the lever to silent. In some cases really annoying.
kind regards

It is quite annoying, happening to me too.
I can't find how to turn off the loud ringtone that happens whenever powering on or rebooting the phone. Just got the phone today from HTC USA unlocked, and updated it to 7.0. Usually you can shut off this sound. Love this phone so far. Thanks
My experience is you can usually disable the sound on custom roms either during the aroma installation or by removing the audio file / renaming it (which you can do with root access even on a stock rom).
Never known it to be an option on HTC phones though ... or one that is a problem for someone. How often do you turn your phone off and on?

Thanks, I don't power on the phone often but I'm worried I'll do it in some quiet place, like a classical concert. You're right, I should forget about it and just be careful. The phone is stock with no mods.

If you turn the Ringtone volume down, the boot up sound will be quieter, is one thing I've noticed. Possibly even silent if you just use vibrate.

Good idea.
There's an app on the Play store called Silent Boot. It does what it says just fine with Marshmallow. No clue if it still works on Nougat though...
Cool, I'll check it out.
Confirming that unfortunately Silent Boot doesn't work on the latest Android 7.0 update for HTC 10. Kinda want to return it... or go down the mod path. Halp.
Got Nougat OTA update, Silent Boot still does the trick after that.
