battery life since latest update - Samsung Galaxy S7 Active Questions & Answers

Since the latest update about a week ago (QD4), my battery life has been pretty damn terrible. It most recently went from 25 to 1 percent in 10 minutes of just browsing Twitter. Has anybody else noticed this? I have wiped the cache. It's a shame since the battery life was one of the best selling points of the phone, particularly since the 7.0 update.

No issues here with QD4. Have you performed factory reset after update?

I have not but tomorrow when I get my computer back, I'm gonna try to Odin back to the previous version. Will report any results

[Q] How to take my SGS2 completely to stock ICS

I upgraded my stock rooted GB SGS2 to ICS with Kies on the 12th. Battery life has been awful compared to what I got on stock GB (15-18 hours with normal use) I'm now losing about 10% an hour just sitting idle. If I use my phone at all it won't last 8 hours before the battery is at about 10%.
I did a factory reset and re rooted two days ago and I made it about about the same amount of time before the battery was almost dead again. Last night, I did a factory reset and flashed T989UVLE1_T989TMBLE1_T989UVLE1_HOME.tar with odin then rooted and still about 8 hours after I took it off the charger it's at 20% and I've barely even touched it today. I do not have any apps or widgets installed that I didn't before on GB. I didn't restore the apps with Titanium Backup, I manually downloaded each one from the Play Store. I've wiped the cache and fixed permissions in an attempt to get S-Voice to stop crashing.
Another problem I have is issues with bluetooth routing calls through my cars bluetooth. When it is paired my notifications skip and sputter when they go off.
To the best of my knowledge when I Odin'd back to stock ICS that wiped everything out but since I had an issue with my old Vibrant having remnants left over when flashing ROMs I'm wondering if this could be a similar issue. I usually flash with CWM and not Odin Is there something I should be doing to completely wipe everything out and go to stock ICS? Most all comments I've seen say battery life is even better than GB. Mine has gone the opposite way. Help?
Download TDJ's superwipe (theres a thread for it in the dev section) and run it, THEN Odin the stock tar file.
Thank you!
I notice it says after doing to the super wipe to stay in recovery and flash the ROM. Should I find a flashable zip of ICS or is it ok to use Odin after?
I flashed the zip and went ahead and went into download mode and odin'd stock ICS. Google is actually restoring my apps this time...it didn't the first three times so, so far so good. Thanks for the help.
10 hours with very little use and battery us at 25%

D2H, Question for you... You're rooted, have you tried calibrating your battery yet? The only reason I ask is because I was stock unrooted when I upgraded to ICS and my battery life too sucks BIG TIME. Maybe 5hrs, 6 definately tops. I even tried factory reset (which is questionable), removed the battery, let it drain completely and then pulled the battery again and full charged. Still on pace for 15%+ /hr. with light usage.
When I rooted my Sensation I used a battery calibration app and that improved my battery life by leaps and bounds.
I was thinking of rooting my SGS2 just for this.
No, I've not tried that. I used to do it with my Vibrant and never really saw a big difference. I also saw a post here somewhere on here stating that calibrating the battery was a myth.
I may as well try it though. Otherwise I'm going back to GB as this battery life is unacceptable.

D2H, so whats the status?
Myself I finally bit the bullet and rooted (OMG SO SIMPLE compared to HTC). After rooting I downloaded "BatteryCalibration" from google play (Same app used on my Sensation). After a full charge yesterday, I calibrated...to TRY to drain my battery down completely for the next charge I turned on BT and GPS. This all happened around 8pm last night... Well its 5:08pm next day now and my battery (with BT and GPS still on) is only at 68% now and that's after some surfing, video watching, games.
I have to say give this a try before going back to GB.
Come to find out there was a beta release of HD Widgets that downloaded when all of my apps restored. That was the culprit. I'm back to 16 hours of battery life.
Cool! It's going on 10:30 pm here and my bt and gps are still on and I'm at 29%... This includes more Internet browsing, games, phone calls and Txt msgs. No charging since yesterday. I won't be surprised if it's still on tomorrow morning.

[Q] Huge Drop in Battery Life after 2.17 Update

Hi all,
My battery life on the One X has been great before the 2.17 update. Better than the average being reported on this forum.
After 2.17 it plummeted to 14 hours or so with barely 2 hours of screen time.
Nothing was changed after the update on my end. Same apps, etc. All on stock.
What are my options? Will a hard reset solve it?
Thanks.
Update
The factory reset did the trick. Battery is back functioning properly and I did get extra juice out of the 2.17 update.
If you do find a weird drop in battery life and the ONLY change is that you updated the firmware, a hard reset may solve it like it did for me.

You should go thru a couple of charging cycles before complaining about battery time.. everytime you flash a new rom or update the phone the battery has to calibrate ( as far as i know ), and that takes about 2 - 4 recharge cycles..
in case you already done that, then check you sync settings, brightness if its too high, or low.. Maybe you are used to be on wifi instead of 3g ?
It has gone through over 10 full charge cycles.
Sync is off. Brightness minimum.
Wifi and 3G usage patterns are similar.
Just noticed that Phone Idle is consuming a lot more.
Maybe it's the new radio which is affecting your signal, try flashing an older radio. My battery life is better on the new firmware.

i first of all found the battery life had dropped, i ended up resetting the phone and it got much better, i think some old app was getting lodged in the memory and preventing deep sleep.
i ran it for about 2 weeks before i decided to wipe.
@nikzDHD
I suspect it could be that. My provider does not provide that strong a connectivity. But that is something I can't change for the next year or so.
@audiobookman
I decided to wipe it today. Also waited about 2-3 weeks before deciding enough is enough.
--
I did a HTC Battery test and found that my battery was in good condition and performed way better than their baseline. So, I went on to wipe the phone clean and started from scratch.
It was not a painful process actually. Most of my stuff are on the cloud (Google/Dropbox/Skydrive) and the only things I had to back up was the list of apps I had and some settings from apps like Tasker and Minimalist Text. I got everything back up and running within an hour + (reinstalling 60+ apps and getting them setup the way they were takes time).
So far, battery seems a lot better and back to the former period but, it is too early to tell. I'll give it a week of use and a fair amount of full charge cycles before commenting.
Will update this thread then.
If anyone has other ideas please sound out. Thanks a lot!

I do a factory reset after every OTA because of the reasons you mention of this thread. After it battery life seems to get better or at least not worse as on previous firmware version. I hate doing that but it seems the only way

Charging issues on Lollipop

Sideloaded the ZVG update a few days ago, did a factory reset, and set up my phone. Everything was working great and I loved the update... until I noticed yesterday that the phone now takes much longer to charge. Previously, using a 2A charger, it would charge at roughly 1% per min, but now it seems to be more like 1% per 2-3 mins. Not sure if this is on purpose to extend battery longevity or an actual bug in the update. Either way, it's kind of annoying. Just wondering if anyone else has noticed this.
Yes I've noticed it, but I think if you were in another non stock ROM. You would have modified kernel that may have had a quicker charging installed in it.
I noticed the same thing yesterday. I have been on stock rom, with only root, since the announced that we were getting LP. Another thing that I noticed, my battery life has gone to hell in the last couple of days. As an example, I unplugged my phone this morning at 6am (100%) and by 8:15am my phone was down to 65% and I was barely using my phone during that time. A couple of co workers have the G3 with Verizon and they were telling me that their battery life had gotten bad after the update. So for about a week and a half (I updated on the 27th) everything was running normal and now charging takes longer and battery last shorter. My next step is to back up my data and reset the phone.
I just did a search on this problem. It seems that all of the LG G2s & G3s are having the same issue since the Lollipop upgrade regardless of carrier. LG needs to release a fix for all of these issues ASAP or their current users won't stay LG users for much longer. I for one was planning on getting the G4 but if they don't fix this problem soon I will be forced to change phones before it is released on Sprint.
I'm not having any of these issues.
I've had my phone unplugged for just under 15 hours and it went from 100% to 63% in that time with a SOT of 2 hours. Granted I do Greenify practically everything and only use the radios when I need them
It does seem to take longer to charge but that is not an issue for me.
Did you sideload ZVG or take the OTA to ZVG? There are some people who have said that the OTA is what is causing problems... I sideloaded ZVG BTW.

Bad battery life after March OTA

Hello everyone, I was getting EXCELLENT battery life on my phone consistenly ( 7 hours of SOT over 30 hours ), until I flashed the march OTA.
Do you think factory resetting the phone may fix the problem ? or maybe something else ?
My phone is rooted with stock recovery.
Thanks

Only one way to find out my friend. Many folks have done that very thing since 9.0 hit last August to rectify poor battery life. Personally, I do that very thing every 3-4 months just to keep things cleaned out. My P2XL is 18 months old and I still average the same SOT as I did when I got it :good:
I tried a factory reset too due to low battery life. At december path I was near the 8hours.
Now it's more like 6h-6h30. It still good but far away.
Today I desactive in "options for developers" and 'tracking system" both slides. Battery life seems better. I will see later.

Battery life in 9.0.9

Battery life in 9.0.9
Hello all,
I'm trying to find out how is the battery life out there in latest stable update
Right now.. i have a pretty bad battery life ..not sure how to fix this.
I went through few pages in Google and OnePlus forums
Here is one of the links
https://forums.oneplus.com/threads/...our-stats-how-to-improve-battery-life.681970/
But still stats are like below attached screenshots
Steps I have tried so far
Cleared cache in recovery
Cleared cache and data for Google Play services
Joined beta for GPS and upgraded to latest version
Factory reset
Also used Oreo for a day or two.. battery life seems normal in Oreo...
Issue resurface as soon as I update to pie
Appreciate all your help on this!
Google Play services constantly run in the background
So far its pretty good for me...
5t is still one of the best phones i think!
Thanks for the reply. Yea 5t is still one of the best phones out there :good: your stats looks solid. I'm thinking where mine goes wrong.
Updating Google Play services to 19.8.28 beta has improved screen on time and battery standby time in stable 9.0.9, hope it remains same with future beta versions.
My 2 cents. Great battery life.
I picked up a used 5T on eBay a week ago. It did the OTA update to 9.0.9 on day 2 or 3. I don't know how it was before the update, but this is the best battery life I have ever experienced.
Full charge last night. Unplugged before bed. Google maps on the way to work (75 mins). Light use throughout the day. Still about 50% left. Better than any phone I have ever had.
I wonder what other apps or settings that the OP has changed to shorten the battery life. Mainly so I don't change those settings.
