Not sure if its my lack of experience with this app or not, but it doesnt seem to have the ability to give a thicker sound. All i can really do is adjust the bass, which doesn't do much when the overall sound is pretty flat.
I tried to install pi music, as well as standalone equalizer apps and none of them seemed to change anything; one app also said i need to disable audio fx before using it.. How can i disable it? There is no uninstall option.
Any way to get a 'fuller' sound?
On yesterday's nightly on Moto G4 Play
I'm curious too. I'm finding it has a built-in headphone safe volume limit that can't be turned off or adjusted. Could it be safely uninstalled using titanium backup?

There's options out there for better quality audio.
Here's just a few of them amongst a good handful.

I don't use Magisk & Viper wouldn't install its driver to my phone; kept getting "driver installed, reboot phone" and once I do, the same "Need to download driver" crap would start as soon as I opened viper.
Oh well.
If I hit the power button enough times and quickly enough, it seems to trigger Audio FX. Makes the volume marginally higher and the sound considerably better (depending on profile picked). Guess I'm stuck with it.

Hi all.
For weeks I've been trying to get a working EQ on my moto e. All this could and should and would doesn't really help.
Has anyone out there a sound mod installed, that does more than placebo effect? Should work reproducible at least with one mediaplayer, FM radio and web browsers. For wired as well as wireless headsets. MoKee ROM 6 with built in viper4andoid can. Why can't lineage 7?

@kurtn, Have you Looked/Searched/Posted your question somewhere within the (following) XDA Forum location dedicated to the Moto E?...

Android Apps and Games - XDA Forum

Xposed Framework Modules - XDA Forum
Please keep in mind, though, many/most stock Apps/Features and such work well for/in the devices they're included with but, there are some/many that are a, kind of, default Apps/Features that are created to work for a few/many devices and are, actually, only developed to work to the potential of the device(s) where the capabilities are not as good as the better/more capable ones.
With that stated, many/most individuals look for alternatives with a better and more capable App(s) that will take advantage of the devices better capabilities.
I hope that I had explained it okay...

I, personally, don't use my device for playing music. I still use my PC for home and in my Car, i still use either the Radio or those, Oldie but Goodie, CD's and Cassettes.
I really can't, personally, recommend anything since I really don't need anything.
When it comes to the occasional YouTube videos, and similar, the stock audio is good enough for me.

First of all tell me what kind of earphones/headphones/IEMs are you using. Truth is that there is no way to make cheap ones sound perfectly just by using an equaliser, no matter how sophisticated it is. The "thick" sound comes from the low end (<20hz) that some products just won't play no matter what. Here's an article on it, and don't hesitate on spending hundred or more bucks on good headphones (not Beats). Believe me, it's worth it.

For past six months I have been using this mod on my phone,

It's really fantastic, I used to tick the Bass and Equalizer to Rock under DSP Manager and the Bass was just wow, BOOM! I am a bass-head fyi. But I was wondering I have been using it for so long and maybe there are better mods available at the moment. The problem is they come with that .zip package which you can'y uninstall easily, so I don't really wanna flash it unless I am sure.
Anyway, if anyone here is using something better than the above please mention here.
Once again, don't forget about BASS

FX is for audio effects and XHiFI for a clear sound and better quality. Use both with FX Compatible mode. Everything is explained in OP.
This mod is crazy! Can't believe what I am hearing to! Awesome.
But I found that running the FX in Normal mode is better for me, if I use it in Compatible mode there is no effect if I change the settings in FX!
I use PowerAMP, now I don't know what settings should I use, too many of them! Guess I will have to keep playing with them!
Viper FX is incredible. You can get great sound out of N2, just need proper mods/sw. I use that too and sounds great with my Koss
Hi, I've recently installed PAC-man in my Samsung Note II 7100 and while I'm loving all the new features and speed I have noticed that this mod no longer works:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1922715
Reasoning being that the default_gain.conf file doesn't exist anymore. So my question is, in which file is the max volume controlled now? I don't mind if I have to personally edit it, I just want to know which. I rather do this by myself with a hard coded option instead of installing apk solutions like V4A.
No one?

Yup, viper on the Play store is great. The description is in a different language, but the application itself can be set to english.

I am using it but to be honest the output isn't that stronger. The mod I mentioned before was a real game changer and I noticed quite a difference when using it with my car (using the aux port), but now with PACman+Viper I'm constantly having to set both my device volume and my car's radio volume to maximum to get a sound that is good enough, and even then it isn't that good. This never happened with the default_gain.conf edit. Not to mention that some players override Viper's settings which can be super annoying.
At the very least is there a way to push Viper's Output Gain over the 6db limit? Like editing one of it's conf files or something. That can be a helpful workaround.

Just curious if someone has developed something that works with V4A, and increases the volume output of the headphone jack?
I have been able to do this with my old phone, an S3 with the Boeffla kernel installed...I dont think the Boeffla can be installed on the ZF2 but there may be other kernels that offer the option of enhancing the volume....

What headphones are you using? I'm using Viper and depending on my settings, I can make a $8 pair of Panasonic earbuds sound like they cost hundreds. I use various SOL Republic over ear and ear buds that sound incredible without any distortion. I can give you some settings ideas if you'd like. When using Viper also, I find you get better results if you leave the ASUS Audio Wizard enabled and set to Music Mode
I'm using Aurisonics Forte IEMs. The bass, when it hits, tends to drown out, or fade the mids and highs. I'll try turning on music mode, I've got it off right now.
*edit* Okay, don't like music mode on with Viper. Adds a weird echo effect. I did figure out I was using the gain wrong, so I've made that adjustment. Have to give it more of a listen, but it's better.
Well, I went to poweranpapp.com, and downloaded the Intel version of the app. Supposed to savethe battery life, and improve sound. Not bad, but I still wish the phone was louder.
Just edit your mixerpaths.xml file for louder output on your headphone , save and reboot.

The phone has terrible volume. It has nothing to do with the headphones. On my old s3 a volume booster app was all I needed. Now, with this zen2 551kl I'm searching for the ability to boost gain. I've unlocked boot loader and rooted and then tried viper but it failed to apply patch/plugin/driver.

My Usb Dac dongle control app seems to be working with the U11 now. I specifically support the HTC adapter.
If anyone is interested:

Question though, once you adjust the dac gain is there any way to make that adjustment permanent?

Absolutely, and you can have multiple settings depending on headphones/use cases.
See the OP about half way down:
The headphones screen transfers to form entry to set up various headphones you may own. If you know the specs, the app will calculate the Spl (but there is an issue with the Google dongle calculation, it's off by a few dB, Dragonfly is spot on). More importantly the initial Dac gain (in percent) and android volume can be entered, so when you replug, the app will start with those settings. It remembers the last applied headset setting on reboot. So if you liked a dongle gain of 32 of 64 (same as 87 of 175), that's 50 percent. Sorry about the lack of uniformity, but the dongles all have different gain numbers.
The list of headphone entries lies below. A single click chooses the parameters for the listening session(start vol, gain, etc) and will remain for the next Usb insertion as well. To delete an entry, long press on it.
If you get stuck let me know.

Also silly question but is it Oreo compatible?

I have not used Viper so I can't tell you how it works.
This app is using Alsa, tinymix to directly control the Dac.
It is 8.1 compatible, meant for Magisk rooted devices.
And for not rooted devices? Is just what I was looking for but without root.
Anyway, thanks for the app.
Tried it during the weekend, really nice app and the boost is more than welcomed, now my U11 sounds 99% as loud as my ex HTC 10
I am just waiting for dolby to be as refined as on nougat to get the perfect sound quality.
If there is something to say, it's the UI of this app that should have lets say clearer menus like ''save config as'' for example
