Battery drain on new nightly Nexus 6 - LineageOS Questions & Answers

Hi everyone. Just jumped into the world of rooting and custom ROMs and stuff and was going great for a while. I installed the 4/28 Lineage OS on my nexus 6 and was loving it. Phone was much faster and battery life improved by at least 20%. However after trying to OTA update to the new 5/5 build I ran into a lot of issues. Finally got the new build on my phone but now my battery life is abysmal. Like 20% lost in less than an hour. Here is everything I have done to date. If anyone can see what I did wrong and maybe a potential fix I would greatly appreciate it.
Rooted, installed TWRP 3.0.2-0, flashed Lineage 4/28 along with Micro Gapps
Attempted to auto update. After many failures (kept failing to install manually from the directory in TWRP) I restored my nougat 7.1.1 backup, then installed the new build along with Gapps again. Phone works now but as stated horrendous battery life
Is it because I installed Gapps twice possibly? I fear I incorrectly assumed that restoring my phone would remove Gapps as well so now maybe Gapps is running twice? I am new to this so I am honestly not sure. Again, any help is appreciated. Thanks! Hope everyone else is having a better experience

Did you try asking this on the Official LineageOS thread for the Nexus 6?
[ROM][OFFICIAL] LineageOS 14.1 for Nexus 6 (shamu) by razorloves
You should be able to get a better answer from those who has the same device and ROM.
I wish you the best of luck!

Nice
My name is Skripka and I approve of this. :good:
Excited to try this out. Read up on OmniRom, I am particularly interested in the multi-workspace piece.
I just started working with JIRA at my workplace, I was just thinking today that it would be great for Rom developers.

Out of curiosity, I thought that Cyanogen and Omni were separate since CM went commercial..? I thought that some of the CM devs (like Chainfire, XplodedWild, and Dees_Troy) were upset with that and decided to start their own ROM (hence OmniRom)...
Regardless, I'm very excited to see OmniRom has its own page now in our Android Development. It will make it much easier to see how each nightly performs and if there are any bugs that need to be reported.
Additionally, there's a lot of info/support/feature requests/etc here.
Thanks slick_rick!!

On Omni's page they talk about mulitwindow being up to the individual dev who brings it to each device. Is it possible to get that added in the future, or is that going to be up to Omni?
Thanks for the info and thanks for your hard work!!
Thanks for all your hard work and not given up on us like people's. Just downloaded and look forward to trying it out. On a side note I've been spending all my free time in the XDA University forums trying to teach myself how to compile and build. I've got Ubuntu and all the tools but having a 14 month old son n being a single dad in the evenings haven't given me much free time to practice and read.
So i can appreciate all the time and effort you put in to doing this all.
Thank you slick-rick for this great ROM. For me, everything is running flawlessly so far but I have a question. I used Phil's Touch to install the ROM originally and as I mentioned it's running great. This morning I checked for an update and there is a new nightly available. When I went through the process to install the nightly it said that it was only compatible with TWRP. Is this correct, or is it OK to continue with the installation even though I have Phil's Touch? Thank you again for all your work.

Which Nightly did you install? Any nightly build after 1/10 or so should be able to OpenDelta update script via PhilZ/CWM just fine.

'no service' issue
I had this rom running for a couple of days, then had an issue with an app (xbmc), and decided to go back to macksrom....didn't realize that once you install 4.4.2, you can't go back to 4.1.2...anyway after trying to restore to macksrom failed twice on the data restore, I went ahead and reloaded omnirom, and worked through the xbmc issue....didn't realize until my wife found me at the grocery store that after bringing it back via restore I had no service...and I couldn't find anyway to get service either....
Is this a known issue, or do you know if I did something wrong?

Tried this for two days - one mostly on WiFi and one out and about. First day on WiFi I got waaaaaaay better battery, but the second day I got not so good results with Google maps - it took a while to "find my location"....also with location set to 'Device Only', I got high battery use from the weather channel app I have installed, and Dashclock widget can't find my geo location and report.... I think I'll take the slightly higher battery drain with a fully functioning GPS setting.
Thanks for the tip though - it could be super handy for someone mostly on WiFi.

If you're not traveling, just set DashClock's location manually. Can't vouch for Weather Channel's app, but Weatherbug Elite plays fine with it and doesn't care.
The location pinging with Google Now is insane...and there's no way I know to stop the thousands of location wakelocks short of changing the location preference. Not even changing the app permissions for the location services does any good. And that isn't just an OmniROM issue, but for ever 4.4 ROM I know of.

Unable to download LineageOS nightly update

Hey
I'm currently running LineageOS 14.1 (Nightly - Build date: Jan 25) in my OnePlus3.
The LineageOS updates gives me the option to download the Jan 31 nightly build but the download always stops mid way with the error "Unable to download update".
I tried it many times, my internet connection is stable and quite fast and I'm certainly not running out of space on my device.
Is there anything I can do about this?
Even I am getting the same error have u got any solution till now ?

You can always use the Lineage Downloader app (which is a pretty good app) on the Play Store here:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.paolinoalessandro.cmromdownloader&hl=en
Or just download the oneplus3 ROM's manually from the Lineage website here:

There's more than one way to get the LineageOS downloads...

That happened to me as well on my Honor 5x. Try having the screen on while it's downloading. Seems like when the screen turns off, the download gets aborted at some point. Worse case scenario, you can download the zip thru Lineage website and flash with TWRP.

Sorry buddy...no soutions yet. Maybe they'll solve the bug on later builds. I manually downloaded it and flashed it, only way it seems.

Ya, I was just hoping that directly updating it through the phone's update portal would be easy and on-the-go solution. I did manually downloaded it and flashed it but nightly updates keep wiping my data so I kind of wanted to skip that part.
Thanks anyways guys
I seem to be having the same problem. Have you guys found out how to resolve this issue? or what is the issue?

Lineageos Update shows already installed version. Is this normal?

Hello
I have already the latest Lineageos version. In the update list the installed version is still listed and I can still press the update/install button. Is this normal?
Please have a look at my Screenshot

Yes, this is normal. The LineageOS Team is working on fixing that.

It's actually reflecting the current version for some reason.
It happened to me too. I always set it to Manual checks for updates too because I prefer to download them from the LineageOS site and flash them in TWRP.
I'm not a big fan of the built in download and updates with some of the issues that they've had with it.
Don't worry about the identical releases it shows you.

Which ROM ?

Coming from stock 7.0 and November 2017 security patch what ROM would you recommend that in the words of Apple fans 'just works' ?
Is lineage 15.1 still the best option .. .. Am I right in thinking it no longer gets updated ? Is that because all the bugs have been ironed out or because developers have moved onto Pie ?
Are there any negatives I should be aware of. ?
I've used Lineage before, it has given my old Samsung tablet a new lease of life.
Search didn't bring up any results newer than august 2018.
Thanks
You should read the threads and what people think about the ROMs. There are some really good devs out there doing great jobs, but to give you a wrap up would be to much here. I run on Resurrection Remix and am pretty happy, everything works as I need it.
I think best rom is ResurrectionRemix and bootleggers. Those are perfect rom. I use rr but i want to flash bootleggers. But if we can give pie lineageos it will be perfect.
Im cr droid user best rom ever:good:
And LineageOS if you want a basic ROM with quite good battery. I get three days out of mine - not stock levels but close enough for Oreo

Every os has its ups and downs. Try evrythng and see what works best for u. U might be a battery person or a guy who like customisation or outright performance. Or u just want something stable and light. I would suggest try lineage 16, aosp 6, rr 7 and Crdroid 5.2. One of these should satisfy you.

Given this is my 1 and only phone and I also run a business off it I'm not looking to experiment with different roms.
I just want one that will work as well as stock.....including battery life.......but hopefully have more recent security patches.
I've heard android 9 sucks the life out of batteries so that would mean lineage 16 would not be suitable I guess.

Who told u that
Coz, AFA many users of P2 are concerned, including me, having the best battery out here. If you want to experience try Crdroid, its having so far pretty good SOT and with less or almost no bugs, which can prevent it from becoming a daily driver. :fingers-crossed:

My suggestion would be to go through phases of upgrading;
Install a treble enabled TWRP that should be available in LOS 15 page.
Install LOS 15 for updating treble A only partition (check the whole process for that in LOS 15 page)
Then, install RR 7 of 3rd April for updating vendor partition to latest security patch (later versions have bugs)
Now, you are in a position to have a ROM of your choice, if you want a up-to-date ROM without many issues and minimal customization then opt for LOS 16 or Mokee Pie. If you want plenty of customization with stability then go for CrDroid Pie. If you want a ROM which is up-to-date and have plenty of customization then look for AEX Pie or Havoc 2.4 (13th April version as later versions of Havoc 2.4 are buggy). For rooting, you can use Magisk 19.0 without issues whereas, nano gApps work fine.
You will have to go through all this cycle before resorting to a ROM of your choice. However, when securing lock screen with fingerprint; don't opt for encrypting phone at start. Just select "NO" when asked otherwise phone camera and torch won't work.

Recommended ROM to speed up my N7

I've loved my N7 2013 since I got it when it came out. It used to be unbelievably snappy, but at some point an OTA made it slow, then the next one even slower. I realised that the Facebook app kills the device so I took that off. Then I rooted the device and did a factory reset. It is less sluggish, but still a bit too slow for me.
If 6.0.1 stock, which I am running right now, is the culprit, which older stock should I go back to? I'd like to strike a balance between speed and going so far back in versions that the security risks and other trade-offs are too great.
I am prepared to also try a custom ROM but I would prefer using my tablet over fiddling with it so I'd like some advice as to which ROM (stock or otherwise) is most likely to speed up my beloved N7.
I highly recommend LineageOS 14.1. (Nougat) It was the last official version for N7 by LineageOS. Everything works on 14.1.... and it is super stable.
wileyc has an unofficial version of it. He is leaving the original build unchanged but is creating security updates almost weekly. Here is the link to his posting:

Thanks Tam, looks like a good contender. If one wants to regularly flash these updates for security, am I right in saying that each time the device is wiped, or can you avoid losing your configuration and apps? Is there a clever way to avoid a lot of hassle with backup/restore and reconfiguring your device each time?

Edit. Hi Lief, I mis-advised (hazzards of being a noob giving advice). You will actually have to do a clean install of lineage 14.1. Meaning that you will have to reinstall all of your apps and settings.... On a plus side there is virtually no bloat in Lineage 14.1, and there is something to be said for how well your N7 will run with a fresh install.
Sorry for the misinformation
Leif, You are correct. Nothing changes with your apps or configuration.
Just download the update/latest build to your device and install with TWRP. VOILA! Done. Pretty hassle free.

I can confirm that the answer is yes - LineageOS 14.1 on deb (LTE) does support video out via the USB port and a Slimport adapter.

Lineage OS 14.1 vs 17.1 (Flo)
Hi guys,
I'm on lineage os 17.1 , Nexus 7 2013 Flo (32gb) , I remember having issues with bluetooth on 14.1 ( sisaxis controller ) and that's why I upgraded to 17.1.
It's a little bit laggy but nothing serious.
