can't play music on android auto - MTCB Android Head Units Q&A

Hi guys,
I hope this is the appropriate forum for this.
I've been running android auto for a few months now, on my new Skoda fabia, 2017. It's worked really well until yesterday. Now it will connect to my galaxy s7 edge, but will not play any music from Google play music. When I press play, change track, anything, the button indents to register my touch, but nothing happens. Still working fine on my wife's Huawei p9.tried changing cable, no difference. Tried using voice commands to play, and it never loads. I can't work out what has changed since it last worked.
Google play music works fine when not connected to android auto, btw.
Driving me mad, any tips? Thanks as always guys
Galaxy s7 edge on stock 7.0, no root

I have the exact same problem on my S8 with my Skoda Octavia for the past week, other music apps like cloudplayer works for local music on SD card however Google Play Music doesn't even start. Other Android functions all work.
It must have been an update that broke it, is yours working now or still broken ?

[Q] Bluetooth streaming

Hi guys, I did a search and I can't find anything on this, if it's already been answered I do apologize. I've got a kenwood stereo in my car that connects to the phone and streams music over bluetooth. I've used this on my last 2 phones (Samsung Epic, and HTC EVO) with no problems. Now with the Galaxy SII, i can't stream music. It will connect and do voice calls no problem, but when i try to play music, it just skips through every song on the list and then freezes. The only time it worked was the first time I connected it to my stereo. Has anyone else had this problem? Since I use Google Music, all of my music is streamed and I have to do it through bluetooth, this has become quite a pain!
i'm on a clarion CZ 509 no problem streaming from my phone to the car
it does it automatically as soon as the car is in the phone range
which some times is kinda annoying, when you don't want it to auto stream
Yeah, mine will connect automatically and phone calls and dialing work with no issues. It's just streaming music. I'm going to try and delete my phone from the deck and re-connect it, hopefully that works. I'm trying to avoid having to replace my phone or do a hard reset.
my deck can save up to 5 phones pairing
so i just assigned a new profile to the SGS2 when i got it
the other ones registered are my old I9000, XT720 and Nexus S
there is another trick you can use
in the phone in the BT profile after pairing, hold the profile for 2 sec, it will pop up a sub menu, in which you can choose both option or only 1 of them
in which case it's BT audio, or BT phone
so play around with that and see
another thing which i don't know if your deck allows you to do is to Pair the phone as a Media device, or Phone device
so in my deck can can pair the phone to be only as a phone device, or only as a media device, or both
I tried messing around with those options, however it either disconnects the phone completely (unchecking the phone box) or just plays the music through the phone (unchecking the media box). I tried streaming another song through the stock music app, and that worked, so I think it may be google music itself. I had downloaded the ICS version, so now i'm trying to downgrade back to current. I'll have to check to see if works later, as now it won't connect to my account to grab all of my music. Thanks for the replies though, I'll keep this updated incase anyone else has the same issues.
now that you mention it, that might be it
the DRM license thing kicking in
i just found that was causing some random crash on my phone as well, removed music 4.0 and installed another music player, now everything is back to normal
i use jukefox to play music, it automatically creates everything that is necessary, like albums, auto get the missing album covers, etc, etc...
1 button does it all
then you just pick or randomly choose what you want to hear, easy music browsing for when you are driving
Yeah it's definitely a google music issue on my phone. The stock player works fine, but that doesn't help me, I keep all of my music uploaded to the google cloud, and have no way to access it right now. Even with the regular current apk I am having issues. I'll have to wait and see if they can update it for this drm issue I think. For now I'll just use the current stock player and fill up my sd card and play off of that
that's what i do
i play it off my SD card
get a 32 GB or 64 GB and you'll have plenty of space to load all your favourite albums
i keep several copies of 32 GB for different albums / movies
So just a followup to this, I did a hard reset today on my phone and it still doesn't help. Turns out, it only does this when connected through bluetooth, and it's a song that's been "made available offline". If i'm actually streaming a song, there are no issues, but any of my playlists or albums that are saved won't play through bluetooth (they will play normally however). Hopefully this can be fixed in an update through Google Music.
So, i've had this issue as well and it appears to be something to do with "shuffle".
At first I disconnected bluetooth and then started playing the music on my phone and made sure to turn ON shuffle..I then turned bluetooth back on in my radio and once it connected...all was well. I didn't like this solution and decided I needed to find an alternative.
I then downloaded the MIUI music app (which has always been my favorite) and the music streaming is working normally now
Was this an issue that you experienced with the google music beta app, or just the standard music player that came with the phone? Mine has only had issues on the music beta app, and it didn't matter if i had shuffle on or not. I've been using the standard music app that came installed on the phone and have had no issues since. On another note, does anyone know if you can see album art through bluetooth? I'm able to get song , artist, and album info, but I've never seen album art come through yet. I'm not sure if this is something bluetooth can handle or not.
Stock app. I just installed music beta and it seems to work fine like miui music
Sent from my SGH-T989 using XDA App
I take that back, music "beta" just did it to me too. Back to miui

AVRCP bluetooth not working?

Audio/Video Remote Control Profile (AVRCP) is not working on any app. i tried it with my headphones to play/pause and skip a song and nothing. same thing on my car. so its definitely the phone causing the problem. anyone else?
Same here - tried two different devices. No play / pause.
OK, it looks like Google Music has a strangle hold on AVRCP. It works in that app (which I don't use) and nowhere else.
This is one of the reasons I ditched Google Music on my last device. The minute you install it, no other app works with AVRCP.
I tried disabling it in Applications (I am running stock w/o unlock or root ATM), but that does no good. Also tried re-enabling and FC, but again, no joy.
Hopefully someone more skilled that I has a suggestion...
EDIT - there don't appear to be any settings in Google Music to turn off their control. Tried a couple apps in the market like Headset Interceptor, but they did not help.
no google music isnt the problem. it doesnt work on any app. plus on my old phone google music didnt cause any problems and worked just fine.

Hmm... I guess we have two different problems.
On my GNEX, AVRCP (I only care about playing and pausing via BT) works on Google Music, and nothing else.
On my old DINC, I had AVRCP working until I installed Google Music (only change I made), at which point all my other apps' AVRCP capabilities stopped working (Audible, Subsonic, etc.). I then uninstalled Google Music (again, the only change I made), and my AVRCP started working again.
To me, that experience makes it pretty clear that Google Music was causing me grief on my old device, and is mysteriously the only thing that works with this feature on my new device.
Like I said, maybe you have something else going on.
so noone else has this problem?
Try Power Amp
The Power Amp player seems to work on my Senheisser MM450 BT Headphones
I have the same issue.
AVRCP on my bluetooth headset (Plantronics BackBeat 903+) stopped working when I started using Galaxy Nexus.
On my old phone I was using BeyondPod and Player Pro with my headset and play/pause worked from the headset. Now, I cannot stop or play music in those apps.
I can confirm that this has something to do with Google Music.
I found that if I start Google Music then AVRCP works with the headset. If then I go and start Player Pro, the AVRCP stops working, and pushing play/pause button does nothing. Then, when I go back to Goolge Music, everything works fine once again.
So existence of Google Music somehow hampers the ability of other apps to claim bluetooth headset remote control fully. They claim it partially, because Google Music is not starting music on pushing play button, but the player does not start music as well.
Spotify on Nexus S stopped responding to BT Play/Pause after ICS update
I am encountering the same issue after updating my Nexus S to Ice Cream Sandwich via an OTA update.
Using Seinnheser MM450s, I was previously able to fully control Spotify (Play/Pause/Next/Previous). However since updating to ICS, only Next/Previous work. The main button (Play/Pause) has no effect.
However, when I launch the factory Music app, it responds to all controls.
To try and 'debug' the issue, I downloaded a trial of "Headset Droid" app, and used its BlueTooth command monitor debugging facility. As expected, it correctly intercepted and confirmed the Next/Previous button pushes, however failed to acknowledge the Play/Pause functionality.
Has a bug report been filed regarding this issue? Can anyone suggest a workaround?
Thanks - Anj
I have the same issue. Previously - my Nexus One running stock/unrooted 2.3.6 worked perfectly for play/pause/next/previous/start|end call on cheap Chinese Bluetooth headphones. Been using them for weeks with Subsonic, flawlessly.
Moved to Galaxy Nexus, 4.0.1 (apparently .2 hasn't rolled for my geography yet) - same headphones, only next/previous/start|end call work. Play/Pause does nothing in either state, whether I am in Subsonic or not. Haven't tried Music yet as I never use it (lets face it, its of limited value outside the US!).
But I did notice that if I press and hold for quite a while, the play/pause button, it seems to stop the music in some way that isn't quite pause, but nothing else works after that, you have to manually restart it from the app.
(anecdotally, I have the unsubstantiated feeling that some/all system sounds are not piped to the headphones as effectively as Gingerbread. But I haven't tested this yet)
Finally, I note I have occasionally used these headphones on my Honeycomb tablet - Asus Transformer, 3.2.1(?) and it behaves the same as the Nexus One, not the Galaxy Nexus so this is definitely an ICS issue.
I have reported this fault on code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=23172 - please add to the comments so that it gathers momentum as an important issue.
I hate to post a me-too, but me too :-(
I'm using doggcatcher on a rooted verizon galaxy nexus on the stock 4.0.2 firmware. My headphones are a sony MW600. Play/pause/ffw/rew don't work in doggcatcher.
I started up google music and went through the setup wizard. the AVRCP buttons work for google music only. Enabling/disabling doggcatcher's "bind to headset forcefully" option has no effect.
I used Titanium Backup to make a backup of Google Music, and then uninstall it. Now Doggcatcher responds to AVRCP button-presses. Anyone else want to give it a try?
Thanks daoist,
Can you confirm that you have to be root to use that particular functionality of Titanium Backup?
Thanks again - Anj
Interesting. Now it seems like google music and Pandora both respond to it. But google listen does not.

I'm having the same issues with my Galaxy Nexus as well. I starred the link mentioned above. I'm using a Plantronics Voyager Pro HD and none of my music controls work. I also can't tap the call button to engage a voice search or anything. I hope Google fixes this sometime soon...This makes my headset quite a bit less useful...
I can confirm the issue on my Gnex LTE running 4.0.2. Google Music works fine. I don't know why, but Doggcatcher is also working fine (Play/Pause works). I noticed that there is a setting in Doggcatcher for "bind to headset" and "start application" - both of which are checked on mine, so maybe that's why it's working.
However, both Pandora and Mog are not working with Play/Pause and there are no headset options in the app settings. So either 1) apps just need to be updated for ICS, or 2) something is amiss in ICS that prevents other apps from using the headset controls. Most likely the latter...
Apparently the developers of Media Button Router have "fixed" this issue.
See here: code.google.com/p/media-button-router/issues/detail?id=10#c5
Download from here: market.android.com/details?id=com.harleensahni.android.mbr&hl=en
I can confirm that after installing Media Button Router and configuring to send all BT commands to Spotify - I no longer have the Play/Pause problem.

that works but EVERY time i hit the play/pause button on my mw600 the prompt comes up, freaking annoying, can we have the app that just does the play pause, i dont wnat it to come up asking me what to play pause.
Sorry to revive but i've got an in-car bluetooth and the AVRCP doesn't seem to work with ICS either.. the first time I click play and the first time I click "next track" on the car after the phone connects, the phone will respond correctly, but will not respond to any subsequent buttons until I press the power button on my phone... It's almost like ICS is sitting on all the commands sent to it's AVRCP like a stack, and when I power the phone (either on or into standby), the next click is executed (without any clicks on the car at the time)..
eg: if I hit "Next" twice and "Rew" once on my car, then every time I tap the power button (between on and sleep), it would execute Next, Next and Rew in that order. I have a lock pattern on my phone too, not sure if that's hampering the AVRCP commands either... only way to get out of this is to turn the BT off on the GNEX then on again.. but it does the same thing after the first succesful AVRCP command again.

Bluetooth headphones weird behavior

Hi guys, here is the problem that for some reason popped just recently, started maybe 2 weeks ago or so. I'm using Jay bird blue buds x as my main wireless headphones with my tab s. Everything was working fine but now whenever I connect the headphones and either start listening to music, music player or Google play music, or listen to a video clip, be it from YouTube, gallery or Google play video, the headphones cut out after 30-60 seconds. Now I did test the headphones with other tablet, an Asus one, and with my audio setup I use with my pc and I can use them without any problems for hours at a time. Which kinda led me to a conclusion that it's not the headphones but the tab itself. Now my question is, did anyone experience something similar? Any chance it's a Bluetooth driver mixup of some sorts that came with most recent tab update? Any help would be appreciated. I'm running complete stock with the most recent update, with just a couple of apps "turned off" in application section.
Jaybirds work with stock and skyhigh kernel.

Well, my Samsung HS3000 Bluetooth headphones work w/o a problem, but I just encountered an issue with a bluetooth gamepad I bought. It started to lag every 30s - 2 minutes for like 10 seconds and than worked normally again. On the Nexus 7 of my girlfriend it worked for hours w/o a problem. I ended up factory resetting and updating to a newer firmware only to find out (just now) that one of my apps with accessibility access is responsible, probably Tasker or some of its modules / plugins.
Since your issue sounds a bit similar, you might want to investigate in that direction.

Sounds like you might be right, tho I am not using Tasker atm. I'm thinking maybe it's one of the apps I turned off.

[Q] Bluetooth in car phone audio problem

Hello everyone,
I have a stock LG G3 (D852/Fido) with the OTA update to Android 5.01 installed (I had the phone for a week before they pushed the OTA).
I have a Subaru Forester with the Clarion CF625UM radio. My phone connects with Bluetooth every time. The music plays perfectly, and the phone audio the callers/called hear is perfect. The problem is with the in car phone audio. So much chuffing that I cannot hear the callers. I have tried the phone on other CF625UM radios with the same result. Someone tried an iPhone 6 on my radio, worked perfectly so I'm guessing it's my phone.
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks,
V

I have this problem when playing music through my speakers on my car. What I do every time I get in the car is connect and begin to play music. Then I got to my recents tab and clear everything. This will kill the music and the phone will still be connected via bluetooth. Now everything works fine -- for me.
Seems to me that if you don't kill all the apps the bluetooth gets overloaded and has a hard time pushing information through. I got to this conclusion after scanning for another bluetooth device. While is was scanning the music was skipping non-stop. I concluded that when it skips, it's overloaded -- so I kill every app so only my music is being transmitted (and phone on standby).

I tried your method, unfortunately it did not work for me. I guess I'll have to wait for 5.1 to be pushed to my phone and hope for the best.

Works fine,in my Mercedes, i can play music, videos without any problems, speed camera messages even come through clear and interrupt whatever is playing. Using ChupaCups 4.2 ROM

Android Auto

Anyway to get Android Auto installed on this Tab S4?
I drive a Ford Escape and the crappy Sync 3 system that Ford uses causes BT lag. Both for audio and video. I don't watch videos whilst driving, I'll explain.
So when I discovered that whilst using Android Auto on my phone (Note 9) the sound that I'm listening to comes in perfect, no lag and when I change tracks via the button on my steering wheel (or volume buttons on my phone) there is no lag, unlike when I'm only using Sync 3.
So, with video the BT lag is bad. Like almost two seconds. I get to campus super early because of construction on a new parking garage. So typically, I'm chilling in my car until the library opens. That's when I'm sometimes watching stuff on my phone so the BT lag gets super annoying. Android Auto relieves this issue perfectly so I'd like to be able to enjoy that benefit on my Tab S4.
But when I try to install it I see the message saying this device is not compatible. Kinda makes sense since this is a tablet. But as you can see, being able to enjoy lag-free video (using any video app/service on the tablet) would be super duper cool on this tablet whilst inside my car.
Anyone know how I can bypass this restriction?
By the way, there is no aux input in this car. It's a 2018 Escape. I'm assuming Ford removed this useful feature the year before? If I had an aux input this would be no issue. But BT is my only option if I can't get Android Auto to work on this Tab S4.
Thanks!
Odd. Installs (and runs) just fine on my Tab S4 directly from Google play.
You can always try to install from other sources, apk mirror for example.
https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/android-auto/
So I tried it out and it doesn't seem to work. It installed just fine on its own but when I connected the tablet to my car the tablet started vibrating from the notifications of AA. Like crazy. It just kept flashing the notification icon and vibrating but nothing showed up on the infotainment screen.
I don't know if this is the same as you are talking about, but I've got a couple apps that "aren't compatible with your device," being my Tab S2 or S4. The Jetblue flight app is one. I found that if I install them on my S7 Edge phone, back up the app, I can copy and install it on the tablet. Of course, they need to be manually updated. The Android Auto gives me the same message as roadardo, plus it says "the app may not be optimized for your device." That could explain the bugs when running. I know for chromecast it says my Tab S4 is not optimized for casting and it is a disaster.
