please, advice needed on wide angle lens for lg G4 - G4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I need help!
Have any of you bought and used wide angle lens for lg g4? there are several options out there but I really need to be sure before ordering:
1) camera won't take blur images and videos with the lens
2) black edges of the lens won't be visible on images and videos taken ( this is very important part )
3) majority of lenses will cover the flash light and laser focus parts, so will my smartphone's focus still work well.
4) lens can be mounted well
I have a brown lather back g4. I really like pics of my phone but can't effort to upgrade it to G5 for wide angle feature.
have any of u used any wide angle lens with a success? Is it worth it? please share experience.
any advice appreciated!

Macro and wide fov lens (or how to picture really tiny stuff)

Used the more or less well known http://www.dealextreme.com/p/univer...ent-for-digital-cameras-and-cell-phones-14953
Samples (the shots are in macro focus mode, as close as i could get it to focus with that lighting)
1st one: with macro lens
2nd one: stock sgs2 lens
3rd one: with wide fov lens
Tiny review:
- easy to install and remove (its magnetic) and has lens protection stuff to carry the lens with you
- the macro is pretty good, the wide angle has more fish eye that it should for that angle, and you can see the black edges, but it does the job
- both have slightly blurry edges (but not nearly as blurry as ive seen in other reviews)
- cheap ($16)
- macro is where its the most helpful as you can now take pictures of tiny insects and the like, much closer than stock ever could. movies of tiny spiders are fun ;-)
Hi,
I'm interested in getting this.
Thanks for the review.
Hopefully fits mine I had the 2000mAH battery, so the casing changed.
Watch out, SGS2 has a wide angle lens and vignettes with many such lenses. Me got a fisheye from USBfever. No vignetting in movie mode though, seems to have less wide angle in movie mode.

Get it. I have the 2000mah battery and the batter cover has no impact on the use of this lens. The metal ring just sticks onto the camera area (the rectangle region). Use of other cases would not affect it either.
Just ordered one. It's got to be worth a risk at only £6.80 ($10.37) & free shipping.
If I remember I'll report back once I've got it.

More specifically, the still cam of the SGS2 looks like a 20mm lens on an APS-C crop frame DSLR (Nikon D90 for example), and the movie like a 35mm lens.
In traditional full-frame equivalents that'd be 30mm (wide-angle) and 50mm (normal), respectively.

when you say the metal ring sticks to the camera area, does it mean 1 side of the ring is adhesive? does it leave any residue when removing? covers the flash?
shot this VIDEO with stock sgs2 camera
Why is it mostly out of focus? Can't the SGS 2 focus that close or does it take a while to autofocus?

A way to use the nice old flash thick border on LG g7? (no 3rd apps)

Am I the only one who miss the flash mode of a thick cold white frame to make a selfie even in total dark?
I have G4 and G5, and photo apps has this option+8mpixel camera(g5), I was going to switch to G6 since my sister's one has still this kind of flash+wide lenses on front, but I read tat the downgrade to 5mpixel doesn't worth the wide (that make a lot of distortion too due to the camera so close to you face with a wide selfie).
So I went for an G7 and...a classical sad selfie light that means:
1 no more chose a decent pose in dark or low light places (clubs, disco and so), you see evertihng almost black and cross your fingers...
2pose for a longer time since during th selfie light the phone must focuses and realize what is photograping.
I do a lot of selfies in night clubs/discos and with the white frame people alreade see a preview (almost final, if you don't consider beauty filter) aof the picture!!!
With other phone you see just a dark skreend and you need to hope to look fine=more than a try...
I must admit that the new 8mpx sensor is very nice (or just have better sentings in quality compared to G5),
but about the 80° I made a selfie with G5 and G7 and G7 didn't take a wider picture than G5...
In a nuthshell:I was wondering, before returning the phone, if is there is a way (no third party app) to restore the old flash with the thick white border even with the smaller preview OR if a V30 or another high end snapdragon from LG still uses this method and has 8 mpx (exluding G6)
Thank you!

camera takes unusable pictures. but excellent macro images

I am facing an unusualy issue which has cropped up suddenly.
I am not able to use the rear camera of the moto z play for anything as all images are extremely blurry as if an opaque cover is kept in front of it. But If I use the camera from a 1 inch or lesser distance, the clarity is superb as if its only meant for macro shots.
This issue is not happening with the front camera but only the rear camera.
Please help.

Sounds like hardware problem
Do you have a warranty?

Seems like problem with laser focus, check if manual focus is working or not.
If it's working then maybe it's the laser module that's giving trouble.
PS: check if the lens is clear and there's no dust inside.
Hi,
I changed my battery yesterday and my camera is behaving the same way. Manual focus does not work.
I had to apply a lot of heat to open the screen and also on the back, to loosen the old battery. Could it have damaged the rear camera?
If I replace the camera module, the laser sensor will be replaced too?
I also lost the finger print sensor, but maybe that's because I lost the lever of the zif connector.
OP, did you have some heat on your phone too?

RhinoShield lens review

A bit ago I received these add-on lenses from RhinoShield to test out. I’m no professional photographer, just a regular joe, amateur photographer. But I guess they liked the reviews I’ve written about their cases on XDA, thus decided to send me this package when I asked about their crash guard for my pixel 2 XL.
Their approach is a little different than Moment. Rhinoshield’s focus is on developing cases for phone protection, where as Moment’s focus is mobile photography via add-on lenses. An extra part is required using the Rhinoshield’s add-on lenses. If you choose to explore their add-on lens, you need to buy a lens adapter for the case and the lenses simply screw onto the case via the adapter. My guess is, they went this route because their main focus is phone protection, therefore it’s not ideal to allow the lenses, as a secondary option, to increase the cost of production of the cases for the entire customer base when probably just a small percentage would consider buying the add-on lenses.
There are four add-on lenses as follow:
- 2 in 1 macro + 0.65x wide angle lens – 100 degree view angle
- 0.6x HD wide angle lens – 110 degree view angle
- Super wide angle lens – 165 degree view angle
- Fisheye lens
The photos are posted in the following order:
- without lens
- 2 in 1 macro + 0.65x wide angle in wide angle mode
- 0.6x HD wide angle lens
- Super wide angle lens
- Fisheye lens
- close up without lens
- close up with 2 in 1 macro + 0.65x wide angle in macro mode
All the photos are taken on a tripod, in the same position, at the same time, with the exception of the macro photo, that was taken indoor.
From my eyes, I think there is noticeable decrease in quality of the photos. I see quite a bit of vignetting of the images as you go wider. The distortion in the super wide and fisheye lens are expected, however the decrease in quality is quite severe. One odd thing noted is according to RhinoShield’s website, the HD wide angle is supposed to have 110 degree view angle, more than the 2 in 1. However, as you can see in the photos, the 2 in 1 captured more but also with more distortion. Now these are just my opinion, and like an a**hole everyone got their own, so just look at the photos and judge for yourselves. I did try to reach out to Moment for some lenses so I can do a side by side comparison review, but they politely declined. (lol ‘who are you?’)
Now in terms of build quality of the lenses, they feel sturdy and the material is all metal. They hold some weight and certainly doesn’t feel cheap. Each lens comes with front and back caps, as well as a little microfiber pouch. All of which explains the price tags, although they are still cheaper than Moment.
In summary, do I recommend these? Personally, I wouldn’t buy them because of the hit in quality of the photos. However, some people may not be as picky and the wide angle being so useful, especially in landscape photography, without many options in the market it may work for some folks. Also, if you only care to use the photos on social medial platforms, the photos get rendered down anyway making the distortions even less noticeable. If I have to pick, I think the 0.6x HD wide angle lens showed the least amount of distortion and so I’d go with that one.
Hope this was helpful.
Thanks for this review. I likely wouldn't have invested in these, but this solidified that.
OT but were the pictures of the brick wall taken at York U? Looks familiar.

Unable to select tele-lens on LG G8s

Greetings Just got my hand on a LG G8S here in Norway and I'm pretty happy so far. I started exploring the (three) cameras and noticed today, that if I covered the tele-lens, it did not make any difference. Activating the zoom mode (big tree icon) still provided an image, showing that it was just using a digital zoom on the main lens. Wide lens works fine however.
I also noticed, in manual mode, I could not activate the tele mode at all. Seeing also that the aparture did not match the tele one witch should be f/2.4.
Could it be that I have a G8 firmware, which only supports two cameras?
Thanks!
Pål
Try This.
Guess this scenario is been discussed and tested on other LG triple camera phones with Telephoto lens.
G8s telephoto lens with F2.6 needs good light to work, in poor lighting it switches back to the main/standard lens and offer digital Zoom.
Try outdoors with good lighting, switch to tele lens and then cover this lens with your finger.
Not sure why the software has to decide which lens to choose, May be this is the so called AI camera feature
Try gcam. It uses telephoto lens even at night
Hey, if you want to force the use of the telelens lens long press the little tree button, and it will show a live mini-preview of each lens. Choose the tele view and take the picture. You'll notice the difference in the quality and stability of the preview opposed to when you try to scroll smooth past 1.9x zoom.
But you won't be able to do anything else but snap the shot.
As soon as you click in something out of this preview option, whether to adjust exposure or anything, you'll notice you'll leave the telelens to the main sensor 2x digital
It's not ideal, but Works... Looks like a.... Bug?
Know this has been dead for a while but I investigated this and it bases the lens selection on focus distance and light availability. If you try to use the tele lens on close up subjects it will auto select the main sensor. If used for shooting more generally the tele lens is selected. I imagine light availability makes a difference too. I wish it wasn't blocked in manual camera mode though.
