Currently I am using the camera app provided by RR N but I am looking for an app that has some quick toggle options to choose between;
1. Normal photos
2. Normal video (configurable resolution somewhere in the options)
3. 720p 120fps video
So the less hassle the better when changing between these options. 1 to 2 and 2 to 1 are ofc standard part of every app but to quickly change from 2 to 3 or from 3 to 2 without going thru any settings would be great. while keeping the image quality as good as possible. I've now gone thru couple of apps without any luck; Snapit, Snapdragon camera, footej etc...
So, any recommendations?

I'm using the Lenovo Camera app after testing and examining the results of about 5 or 6 of the most popular options. Seems to give the least noise in low light and the HDR mode is not too fake or slow. Easy to use.
Can be downloaded from apkmirror:

What are the mods?
You have to edit build.prop. Before you change the file, save it - just in case! It is located in the system directory. You need to be rooted and need an app like ES File Explorer.
Change:
ro.build.flavor=athene_retasia_ds-user
ro.build.product=athene_uds
ro.product.device=athene_uds
Save the changes and restart the phone.
Start the camera, tap in the bottom right corner the camera icon and voilà.

New Camera V4 ReleasedSorry for the delay, my parents are on vacation this weeks, so I took this time to be more time with them.
The greater feature in this version are the Exposure modes and the shutter speed, the rest of the changes are below in changelog.
This versions as some minor bugs, like on SA exposure mode and shutter speed should not be available.
when choosing auto exposure mode, ISO and speed should be disabled and the same on other exposure modes.
when choosing shutter prio, max speed is 1/125s don't know why, when using manual, it always use the next ISO chosen, don't know why...
I was thinking... for the people that have faced some bugs on SA, not showing more resolutions, maybe is because of superior auto xposed mode. The best way to disable signature verification ( framework patch ) is to use some xposed mode, like serajr mode and enabling super user mode, or using xInstaller (hadn't try this mode).
I have made my patched code available on my github account
Special thanks to @Lanchon for the great DexPatcher tools. and to @serajr for the xposed mode, that came really handy to disable signature verification
Downloads and Changelog's are below.
And don't forget to hit thanks
Important Discalimer:Be sure to have a System Backup, bootloop is always a possibility (we hope not).
I'm not responsible if something bad happen to your phone... Blah Blah Blah... you know the deal...
What Is:Well, this is a mod of the Z3 Camera with some features unlocked.
This mod is indicated to people who want more control over camera functions, like scenes, iso and more MP.
Current Features:Version 1:
In this Mod I have unlocked 15MP and 20MP on superior auto mode.
Unlocked the ability to use HDR and Scene modes on 15MP and 20MP.
Added more ISO values on the list.
Version 2:
Based on Z3+ camera (28.0.A.7.27_R6A)
Changed application name
Increased the default jpeg quality from 97 to 100
Added new exposure modes (this new modes appear in ISO, they are not complete, it's only a little taste of what I pretend to do)
Version 2.2:
Fixed lockscreen shortcut and lauching camera when screen is off
Version 3:
Based on Z3App 23.4.A.0.546_R14C
Added new Resolution in SuperiorAuto (8MP , 8MP WIDE, 15MP, 20MP)
Version 4:
Source made available on my github
Exposure Mode added on menu, auto, ISO priority, shutter priority and manual
Added option to control shutter Speed, 0 means 1 second, 12 means 1/5000 seconds
Modded menu order, since it has more options I opted for the more important settings at the top.
Fixed some translations.
Added new focus mode "macro", (for the interested people, give a closer look on the source for more details on the focus mode)
Cant remember if I made something else xD
More will become...
Prerequisites:
A compatible phone like the Z series...

Instructions:
First We will prevent bootloops and messed up things...
So starting from clear camera data and removing original camera App, choose the Graphical or Terminal way, or both if you want to have really sure of the processGraphical way:
go to settings->applications->select camera-> clear data
open your file explorer(Like ES File Explorer), go to "/system/priv-app/"
backup and remove SemcCameraUI folder

Since we have a odexed rom, and our package has a different signature, lets patch service.jar, it's easy!!Patch Framework:see this post for better guidance.
Also if you have serajr Xperia Xposed, with Super User Mode enabled, you are good to go, and can skip framework patch

Can I just replace the SemcCameraUI.apk with root explorer?
Very interesting, thanks.
Can you unlock anything else in superior auto?
Iso, focus modes for example
Thanks for this, working nicely!
Would it also be possible to mute the start-up sound of the camera when using the hardware buttons? Or isn't that part related to the apk? Cause I've tried replacing the camera related .ogg, .m4a and .wav files under /system/media with empty audio files but the sound is still there haha

Superior auto is supposed to be "auto", so that kind of mod's only makes sense in manual mode.

Great mod!
Would it be possible to add a feature to force HDR in superior auto? I've found HDR almost always improves the photo.
And add a way to change/choose which camera mode starts with camera button/from lockscreen?
Default is always Superior auto and there isn't a way to change it.
Lastly, would it be possible to add lower resolutions to superior auto, like 3.1MP? Even the defualt 8MP is sometimes unnecesarily big.
Anyway, even without those changes thanks for the great work!
going to try this, thx!

About HDR in Superior Auto, as I said before,Superior Auto it's supposed to be auto. Also HDR requires that you won't move the camera when shooting.
About adding a way to change/choose which camera mode starts on Fast Capture I pretend to do it, but maybe it will take a little bit... Just wait
About 3MP I see no advantages, can you tell me what's your reason? Space? speed? other?
Regarding HDR, I know, but was still hoping maybe you'll agree It's mostly a personal preference to how/what I photograph.
Anyway, if autostart mode can be changed/selected, I can always choose to start manual with HDR so no problem That would be awesome!
Also, 3.1MP I've found is the optimal for me for standard photos - speed, size, battery and fast auto upload to the cloud/services, which again saves a lot of battery. No visual difference even when looking on a TV screen because it's resolution is still big enough that it gets scaled down.
I really wanted this to work but it just wont.
have tried every which way to get it installed but it always either fails to install or camera fails when trying to launch
Thanks for the mod, it's working so far!
Only gripe is that I can't select the SD card anymore as saving location. I also applied the SD card fix to the system, but the option stays greyed out. Any suggestions?

Camera KK this looks like it was built with CameraNext and has had the best results from any camera app on Fire Phone I have used. Even with flash!
I attached some unaltered shots outdoors and indoors with lights on and off in my server room.
Free has ads and $1.99 to remove them. So try it and let me know any tips you might find.
Still has flash issue in low light. It's going to take more than an app in the store to resolve the issue.
Nice, good find, flash pic quality looks similar to the ones from Snap Camera... I found the post I was thinking about:

HDR freezes the app... sigh...
... and so will * every other app when using HDR. I don't need it, some people can't live without it (looking at you, russy23 ^^).
Camera KK is a solid alternative to Snap Camera or Camera MX, and easy to use because of the stock Android look & feel.

Camera Zoom FX
I tried taking HDR pics using Camera Zoom FX and it didn't crash.
I also found a good camera app that works great on the slimcat rom: cymera. Flash works and great filters are integrated. Couldnt find an option for HDR though...
Could someone try Simple Camera, it went free in the amazon app store today. Didn't know if maybe being from the Amz App Store might make a difference in getting a good flash... I'm back on Stock Fire OS right now so I can't try myself...

Thanks for mentioning (It's free in the US store, in Germany for example, they want 74 cents, hehe)
But sadly, being from the Amzn Store means nothing. A lot of "Devs" (more like "copy paste coder" ^^) publish their apps on multiple portals to make a little more $$$. This app is the exact same version as on Google Play Store.
It's based on OpenCamera, it even creates the "OpenCamera" subfolder in the "DCIM" folder. ^^ Default settings: flash pics are overexposed...
edit: Also tried "Cymera" on the weekend. It's, uhh, very "girly". For people who love filters & gramin' it's a feasible alternative, I'll stick with the "functional" ones, like Camera KK.
Can't you use the camera apk from Fire OS? Or does that require all the Amazon framework, kernel, our HAL stuff?

Correct, source code for the camera HAL is needed. Highly unlikely that it will be released by Amazon.
Oh wait, we're all getting bootloader unlock codes for Christmas when they put the developer version under our trees.

Quality is good, flash pics work too, you can correct the exposure if needed (other apps have this as well, ofc.)
Right now, I'm still using Camera KK (free version), because I just need a simple "shooter", just like the stock android app.

Original post by Charles_I: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3477980
https://chromloop.com/2017/12/apk-enable-portrait-mode-nexus-5x6p-og-pixel-phone-google-camera-mod/
Camera NX V7.3 is a Google Camera mod, which is modified to unlock most of the exclusive features of Pixel 2 for Nexus 2015 and original Pixel phones. with this updated version, you can get the Portrait mode working with Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P and Pixel 2016 phones, which was the last Pixel 2’s exclusive feature.
Portrait mode was the most wanted feature for Nexus and Pixel 2016 users. I have considered that Portrait mode is a hardware limiting feature, it requires a special type of image data called PD (Pixel detector?) to enable Portrait mode, but some said Portrait mode can be active with front camera, I began to thinking that this feature should be able to work in software way which we can force to enable it on other phones. Turns out, Google uses PD data to calculate portrait effect on the Back lens while use software method on the Front lens.
We need the camera.experiment2017 library to active the Pixel 2 exclusive functions. thanks to the*Apk changer, the first tool which can deodex the Android 8.1 odex files. I force to enable the PD data model in the camera.experiment2017 library, which is telling camera app to enable Portrait mode. Portrait mode will replace the Lens-blur mode in the menu, it provides the face-retouching feature on both front and back camera, and it needs a human face to do the portrait effect job, it will take two burst photos, one is normal ZSL HDR+ photos, the other is applied the portrait effect. if no human face shows up, you will get one normal photo.
https://chromloop.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/Portrait-mode-on-Nexus-5X-with-Camera-NX-mod.png
Camera NX V7.3 is based on Google Camera 5.1.016, why not the latest 5.1.018 version? because they are the same app with different version numbers. I decide to disable the Google photos combination, as it has the black screen issue, though this issue can be solved by totally replace the original Google camera in the system, it needs the same signature and provider name. I also remove the Help and Feedback in settings, and disable the silence feedback service, to make the app launching a little faster.
The new version was tested on my Nexus 5X, should work on Nexus 6P and Pixel 2016 phones too. I will also provide the modified AR Sticker and AR Core app for Nexus 5X/6P, you can use it without change phone model or add files to the system, you can use other AR sticker mod if you like. I was thinking AR Core is still in beta status, bugs like upside down photo on Nexus 5X, too many things need to be fixed in the future, so no need to make it perfect at this moment.

Hi guys, in your experience do you recommend any custom Gcam or you think stock's works just fine?
I use this one:

It captures more details (and the picture files are much bigger).
Only issue I have is it force closes if I shake the phone too much.
You can ignore the camera driver mod if you want and just use the modified gcam app if you want.

I personally love the stock cam, so I haven't had the need to change it. I feel like my pics all come out superb.

The app I linked is basically the same as stock but it gives the option to use up to 36 shots for a better HDR and sharpner shot (I think stock uses 24)
The processing takes like a second with our Snapdragon 845 which can seem much and that's probably why Google went on a little less shots in the Pixel 3XL stock app.
This app can be useful if you want to crop the pictures as it has a bit much details.
Also if you want to fine tune your shot in Snapseed it has more information to play with.

Tyvm for your reply.
Tried installing few mod ones for S22 Ultra but kept on crashing.
If anyone have a gcam working for S22 or s22+ Snapdragon, please share!
I came here looking for the same thing, ha! I had Google Camera (Gcam) working perfectly on my S21 and would often switch over to use that to take Portraits etc.
If anyone is able to point out a version that works would be so helpful. Cheers!
I know right, all of the ones that are tried either keeps crashing when taking photos
See here for a build working very well with S22U SD:
Gcam
Is there a working Gcam for the Ultra? Is it even needed for the Ultra with its Samsung capabilities?

So far the closest I've gotten is BSG 8.1 but it still isn't great, ids 0,1,2,52 and I had to force the hardware levels from Level 3 to Full or Level 3 + for the main and front cam. HDR+ crashes main and front but with the level change it at least works without HDR+. Tele and UW seem to work fine though. Maybe someone else can play around with it to see why HDR+ crashes.

Do you have the Base S22 Snapdragon or Ultra?
Can I please ask which config xml did you use for BSG 8.1?
Also there are about 6 apks for GSB 8.1 - which one did you download? - https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/dev-bsg/f/dl75/
This is as far as I've gotten. I was using MGC_8.1.101_A9_GV1zfix.
If you can get further and get HDR+ to work, wonderful. If not, it is what it is.

Hi, there are 2 apks for Samsung with the same file name you provided, one has "scan3d" and other has "ruler" - do you know which one out of those two?

I just tried the one ending with... _ruler.apk work with the above attached xml. But as mentioned, turning on HDR will cause the app to crash.
I installed the _ruler. APK
Was trying to take a video but when it zoom, the telephoto zoom lens don't seem to work- I wonder if it's to do with mine is S22 base and Ultra maybe has different cameras?
When trying UW or portrait or night sight etc it seems like taking the picture but force closes it with notification "Photo saving finished" but there are no photos in gallery..
So far only able to take regular photos with the primary lens even though all 3 lens options are showing up in the camera app
Hi folks!
This may have already been mentioned elsewhere, but this one works so far for my S22 Ultra Snapdragon:
GCam_7.3.018_Urnyx05-v2.5.apk

Not on my base S22.
Here's my working config for all 3 rear lenses using LMC8.4R8.
Hasli: LMC8.4_R8
Download LMC8.4_R8 by Hasli.
www.celsoazevedo.com
Create an LMC8.4 folder in root storage and copy the xml there. After installing the Samsung specific port from the link above, open and accept permissions and immediately toggle to video mode and load the config. Good to go.

Hi, may I ask where is the "load config" function? I can only see the following:
1. Remove config name
2. Save config
3. Import ready-made config
If I choose (3) the app will just restart itself. There is no config selection.

After you open the app and switch over to video mode, double tap the space between the record and gallery buttons and it will pop up the config loader. As long as you've already copied the xml to the new LMC8.4 folder in root storage before opening the app, it'll appear there.

I am using US (Tmobile) Snapdragon S22 base. Got the ruler apk and the first one at top of list on link. Both crash immediately upon opening repeatedly. Cannot get to stay open long enough to get into settings. Any ideas?

I have S901E also with Snapdragon, and the version that worked for me was "LMC8.4_R8_samsung.apk"
