My Z PLAY charger is damaged and is not working anymore i had given the charger for replacement 4days ago which will take around 10-15 days.
And NOW I'm charging my z play with Sony charger through the USB provided in box.
But the battery life now becomes very very terrible!
It is only giving 2-3 hrs Screen On time!(Using only Facebook and WhatsApp)
Can anyone TELL how can i REGAIN my previous battery life when I'll receive my original charger from moto?
Anyways PLEASE!?

Charger had no effect on battery. After reset it's not quite the same but better than before ( before reset).
Follow these instructions.
1) reset and wipe cache ( use recovery mode )
2) install battery caliberation by Nema from play store.
3) charge your phone to 100%. ( Phone will show 100% even when it's not...keep it plugged in.)
4) calibrate using Nema
5) install accu battery and gsm battery stats
5) observe for next 4-5days.
PS: gsm battery stats will require you to grant it permission using adb. Instructions are there in the app.
How much battery do you loose over night? If it's more than 3-4% then it is because of some wake lock and GSM better battery stats will help you identify it.

Yes GSM is better both of them have their own merits. Accu battery will show you in a very user friendly way. I use both and typically I use accu battery to check per app usage rather than GSM.
And no, battery calibration app doesn't require root.

After calibrating battery and unplugging charger we'll have to again drain it to 0 and charge to 100?
Or unplug and it's done?

No need to drop to 0. You can can plug at 5 or 10 percent.
Please note that after reset it will take some cycles for android and battery to adjust. So follow the instructions above.

Do bump charging instead of battery calibration. Search it on google.
-Charge your phone to 100%
-Use this battery Calibration app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nema.batterycalibration&hl=de
This app needs root
-Then let your phone discharge until it turns off itself
Notice: in this time you're not allowed to plug the phone to the pc or to the charger again until it turns off
-after it turns off plug the phone to the charger and let it charge without breaks to 100%
-Done
I recall that battery calibration was bogus, there was a post which explained why it was bogus in detail. In other words, don't bother, but charge your battery around 50% if you want a healthy battery.

http://bit.ly/KZdfJJ - Why cant you just google it like he said?
also you can go to recovery and select wipe batterystats.bin
Calibrating your battery does not give you extra battery life, just improves the battery level indicator. Android calibrates battery itself anyway (when battery info change to a few seconds)
batter calibration is of no use i have tested it many times on many roms. our ace has not a good battery. so follow common steps like brightness to 0, application background off etc etc.

thnx will do as u suggested
There is a way to get good battery life in miracle v4 but it took me about 5 days now I get 16 hours off battery with heavy use and about 22 hours for normal use
How I did this
1.let your battery totally die
2.leave your phone off and give full charge
3.still with your charger pluged in boot to cwm recovery
4.now select advanced then wipe battery status
5.now still with with charger pluged in reboot you phone
6.when your phone is fully booted remove charger(you will notice the battery will drop to about 86% in about 10 mins the first time but will get better each time you repeat all these step)
NOTE:I have done this on my wife's s.g.ace with rom miracle v4
And on my Sony Ericsson x8 with many different Rom's
And on my friends Sony Ericsson x10i with many different rom's
YOU MUST USE MAINS CHARGER NOT USB FROM P.C OR LAPTOP AS USB WILL ONLY TRICKLE CHARGE.
If this helped hit the thanks button

And my problem is that whenever my phone deep sleep for a while and i start to use, the battery decrease rapidly after screen in for a while. Its like the battery is leaking even in deep sleep. BATTERY CALIBRATION
Hi!
As we know when we install a new rom we sometimes have battery drain or when we flash a new kernel etc..... what is this?? this means that your battery goes to 0% very quickly!
The normal steep is goes to recovery and wipe battery stats!!
but what i do if in recovery don't appear something like wipe battery stats??
simple!! be sure that your nexus is completely charged, download this app ,, tap on battery calibration !! (after that charge your nexus without break)and congratulations.... buy a beer and make a party!!
I don't made this app.... just share it....
i will upload the link in a note pad... why?? simple.... i can't put links!!!
There is no need for battery calibration. Just discharge to 0% then charge back to 100% and you should be good to go.

The myth of wiping battery stats was thoroughly debunked almost a year and a half ago. It is a 100% true statement that neither this app nor wiping battery stats in recovery has ever affected anyone's battery life or battery indication in any way, shape, or form.
Want to know why battery drains after flashing a new rom or kernel? Hint- it has absolutely nothing to do with incorrect battery stats- totally disregarding the fact for a moment that batterystats.bin has absolutely nothing to do with battery charge indication.. After flashing a new rom, your device is actually using more battery than usual as accounts are set up and synced. Likewise, after flashing a new kernel, it takes a short amount of time for the kernel to "settle."
If you still believe the myth that battery stats need to be wiped every now and again, there's an even easier way to do it than wiping in recovery or using some snake oil app... charge your device to full or near full and then unplug it from the charger. Voila- you've just successfully wiped battery stats!

OP, stop posting nonsense. Seriously.
Strange battery behavior
It's actually odd, my battery started getting stuck at 100% like a week ago or so, after 11 hrs standby time and 30 mins screen-on time, it doesn't even drop 1%. However, it shuts down normally at 1%. I actually tried so many things to fix this, i opened the back cover and pulled the battery out, i let it run dead and charge it all the way up, but it just seems to like that 100% mark. Since it actually shuts down at 1%, i wanted to make sure it's completely dead, so i booted into recovery and oddly, with max brightness in twrp, it took about 15 mins for the device to completely shut down.
Any ideas what might fix this?

Bear in mind that you optimally do not want to discharge the battery to the point of shutdown. Doing so shortens its lifespan, and can trigger the N7 to go into a hibernation mode on order to protect the battery from permanent unrecoverable damage due to a deep discharge.

The app has nothing to do with it as the only thing it clears is the list of processes that have operated on battery since the last full or near full charge.
The only "calibration" that an end user can perform entails a complete discharge/charge cycle. This resets the flags for the battery's internal fuel gauge.

This is all the recalibration the device needs.
Naja is 99% correct. It's not the only calibration you can do (you can wipe stats), but it's the only one you should need to do.
batteryuniversity.com has a couple of good articles on the care and feeding of Li-Ion batteries. There is a lot of less than accurate info that floats around about batteries. The above site is a good way to learn the difference.

How about do a factory reset and measure again. If things are OK then it must be caused by some of the apps you installed. You can then install your apps one at a time and measure, so that you can isolate the problem to a single app.

If you have confirmed it's not a software issue, then I guess the only thing left to do is to return it, or use your warranty.
Read this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lithium-ion_battery
In the "Battery Life" section, it says:
Rechargeable batteries degrade with use, the capacity decreasing until it is unusably small. Li+ batteries last longer[110] if not deeply discharged (depleted) before recharging. The smaller the depth of discharge, the longer the battery will last.[111]

From what I know the way battery calibration works is to monitor the full charge and full discharge process of your battery, which will just add at least another deep cycle to your battery. You can do it once, but no more.
Some battery calibration apps claim full deep cycle is not required, but then it wont be as accurate. I think that is just for the situation where flashing a custom rom caused the new OS to lose track of the battery status. To get an accurate reading you need a full deep cycle.
If you are using a case, that may be another contributing factor to the premature battery degradation. Many cases prevent heat from dissipating properly and effectively cook your battery if you put a load on the tablet, like playing 3D games. Heat is just as bad as deep cycle to these batteries.

That is terrible. Again if it stays the same after a factory reset, return and get a new one because battery degradation is irreversible.
If you can't get it exchanged or serviced, the other option is to wait a little bit and you will be able to buy DIY battery replacement kits on ebay. There are plenty of them for the 2012 nexus 7.

Hi guys. I'm having a heck of a time with my new tab. I appear to have something of a calibration issue with the battery. At the moment, it won't boot without the charger plugged in and displays 42 percent charge when charged while the device is off. I have tried wiping the battery stats via twrp with no luck. It still won't operate without the charger plugged in. The only thing that will work is recovery and sometimes Odin. I checked the battery voltage in twrp via terminal and it displayed 4.3 ish volts. As far as I know, that's the full charge voltage. Why, then, is it not seeing it as fully charged? Any input would be greatly appreciated
Maybe my SGT-7.7 battery scaling (fuel gauge reset) guide will help.
Our tab uses the same fg_reset_cap
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2398663
Don't forget the relevant spaces in the command between echo "1" > /sys....... (or just copy/paste it to avoid errors)
Other than that, maybe the battery is defective?

Well, I'm giving the calibration a go. I did manage to get it booting again. Currently letting it charge. Not too hopeful but the alternative is paying Samsung for repairs because its already rooted and the warranty void. First device I've ever had issues with after rooting, funnily enough. Thanks for the help so far.
Deleted, bad information.

Run it till empty (self shut off). Then while the unit is off, see if you can get a full charge. Then download battery calibration from the playstore. It will create a new 100% baseline for your tab.

NEVER run till empty. Risk permanently damaging the battery.
Links to research found in my guide in previous post. Also many a XDA user issue with failing to power on device after a 100% battery discharge, some requiring a replacement battery. ....
Most of those battery calibration apps do nothing for scaling issues, just reset reporting.

Ok. My bad. Will delete my post.

Well, I tried calibrating the battery but clearly, the voltage is too low and that is what is causing the issue. At least, I'm pretty sure that's what it is. I can manage to get it to turn on but it turns off without warning. No shutdown sequence, just dies. Checking the voltage with Battery HD, it fluctuates between 4.2, which I take to be normal and 3.0 which I know is way too low. I've bought an external battery and I'm trying to charge it with that. It may not work but my only other option is sending it to Samsung. I guess as a last ditch effort I could simply disassemble it and reconnect the battery, which I've read often works but I have a feeling this isn't an easy to disassemble device.
Send it back for battery replacement

Well I run all my batteries down until they switch off about once a month to calibrate, and have never had any ill effects. These include my iPad 3, Samsung galaxy s5, Note 2, and now my tab s. Have also done this on my other gadgets that I don't use that often anymore.
This is straight from the Apple website regarding battery care. Scroll to the bottom of the page and read the last section. Yes I know it's Apple, but they all use the same type of batteries. https://www.apple.com/uk/batteries/ipad.html

I still believe it's bad advice. ....
Many many examples in XDA where users have discharge the battery completely and damaged the battery or the battery falls "asleep" (internal safety circuit opens) with the charger then unable to service the battery. The only solutions were to try charge/wake battery with high current AC charger or battery replacement.
In OP case, appears to be defective battery.

Just giving people my experiences with battery calibration.
Yes it does seem that the op may have a defective battery.

Sounds like the OP has an issue with the battery.
Here is some good info on lithium batteries. http://batteryuniversity.com/learn/article/how_to_prolong_lithium_based_batteries
My belief is that you should never run them all the way down.

i'll give this a shot. i really hate to see my tablet going nuts over what's its real battery percentage. crossing my fingers
The battery appears to still work and even hold a small charge. The problem is that the software is telling the battery it is fully charged and is cutting off (my theory). I did a number of battery calibration methods while the battery was at the low voltage. I'm thinking the battery meter now thinks 3.5v or so is a full charge. At 3.5v, it'll say 100 percent, then with some use, it's down to 2 percent (according to the meter) in minutes. I really don't think the battery is dead. Battery University even states that over 90 percent of returned "defective" batteries are perfectly fine and are simply problematic because of other issues. The battery might be dead but I refuse to give up on it. Does anyone know a way to completely reset the battery meter?
monitoring the battery and it's fluctuating, could also be a bad battery but too bad, knox void meter has been tripped. I wont be able to send this to sammy for service/battery replacement. i'll give UpInTheAir's method another shot. else. i'll call it a day and will go to sammy and perhaps, swallow their bnew battery replacement price.
This did it for me! Thanks UpInTheAir. 20 hrs with normal usage and im currently at 52%. I guess a few more charge/discharge cycle and i'd be able to squeeze out the battery's full potential

Aww. I guess i spoke too soon, battery stats keeps on jumping. Would you advise twrp installation + battery stats wipe? I already lost my warranty when I rooted so i'll do all possible resolutiin first before sending this for battery replacement (might cost an arm and leg though) *sigh*

If that doesn't work. ...
I personally would;
1. Download your full firmware package
2. Install TWRP and full backup to external sdcard
3. Format system, data, cache, wipe dalvik cache
4. Boot into DL mode and flash firmware

I suppose this is a battery issue, but is there a way to calibrate the phone with a specific battery? The phone is shutting down unexpectedly cause the operating system shows 25% charge when, in reality, I suppose has drained out.
I've drained the battery, charged it to 100% while the phone is off (I've read this is how you calibrate batteries), but the issue persists.
Any suggestions? Thanks!

Any suggestions as to how? Phone is rooted, if that helps.
Thanks!
I had the same problem. Just download "Battery Calibration" app from the store and follow the steps. (The icon of the app is little android with procent).
It should fix your problem in few days, so it may restart a few more times after you do calibration, but it should be fixed.

Yes, it seems to do the trick after two or three calibrations. Thank you for the suggestion.

He does not need a new battery. Its a calibration problem.
Also check the battery voltage, at full must be on 4.3-4.35 while connected. And low is on the 3.4 zone, below that the battery dies suddenly and damages it.
