WiFi enabled TWRP - Nexus 5X Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there any TWRP with WiFi possibilities for the 5X? Or something in like that?
I've a dead USB port on my 5X and it would allow for better recovery options in case I get screw up something.

Sorry, TWRP doesn't seem to have WiFi support, and there is no mod/patch to enable it.

wifi requires more computing power than TWRP possesses and the implications of adding wifi would be huge thing for TWRP to handle. I mean, what would TWRP even do with wifi access? Even if it had wifi, it would need some way to use it. Nice thought, but i dont see it happening anytime in the near or distant future

[Q] disable usb

searched high and low... (feel like an idiot)
How can you disable usb from connecting automaticaly. I ask because i plug it into my work compter to charge while at work. and I dont want my files to connect to the computer..
Have not yet rooted first day with phone running sprint stock jellybean
Doing so requires root and a custom kernel.
You need a kernel that supports USB fast charging.
Beamed from my Grouper
May I ask why this is important? If you are that worried about it just don't let your PC install any drivers. It will still charge.
@op, you don't need a custom kernel, nor fast charge for that matter, to only charge through usb.
while it is true that fast charge tweak charges the battery faster, i would advise not to if you value your usb port. it's the only one we've got. note that are many users who use it and have yet to suffer issues. i'm talking about being cautious.
like patruns said, don't install any drivers or make windows/mac (can't talk about those since i don't use them at home, and at work user policies are in place, so no power user access, let alone root, and i don't care) ignore the device. it will still charge i believe. mine even charges if i turn off the computer but leave the phone connected.
the phone charges fine. I don't want my phone to mount as a media drive when i connect it. I just want to charge. is this possible? My EVO would give me the option to connect when i plugged it in. I would just rather not mount my files to my work computer. if this is not possible no biggie. also while on the subject of usb I cannot get my phone to mount to ubuntu 12 I tried gtmp and no luck. does anyone have any resources they could point me to?
and I did not install any drivers i just connected first time I plugged it in.
Gnex uses MTP, if you don't want it to connect, you will have to uninstall Windows Media Player(I think so, i seen someone say MTP drivers are installed along with Windows Media Player, i could be wrong though)
get a charge only usb cable. There are plenty of those at B&M electronics stores. Find one that says "cannot be used for data" as it wont connect the 2 middle pins and will only charge your phone.
What the hell, everyone...

Herp derp.
Sorry guys. Lol.
Could have sworn you could do that...maybe you could have on ICS?
Edit:
Just remembered...
On an AOKP build or two it was unchecked by default (causing mass user confusion) but maybe once you checked it it couldn't be unchecked. Not sure.

Unable to select MTP for USB computer connection

Hey all,
I'm dusting off an old Verizon Galaxy Nexus to use as a test / development device, but am having some difficulties with it that I've never experienced in the past. Right now the device is unlocked, but running the stock 4.2.2 ROM. When I go into the USB computer connection panel in settings, it shows the either or option of MTP or PTP, but even after selecting MTP, every time I leave the screen, or even rotate the device from portrait to landscape, the option always goes back to PTP. I have never seen this before, and so far my Google-fu has not turned up anything helpful.
Hoping someone out here may have some ideas of what is going on with it. I'd like to root / ROM it, but if I can't even get access to the device as-is, I don't know that attempting to root it in its current condition is going to be super helpful.
Thanks!
I've had a similar issue with my Nexus 7 (2013). I'd like to see a solution as well.

Put a custom rom, even if it's stock. That should fix it lol sorry no other suggestions :-\

Same thing happened to me! I'm running a rooted stock ROM though, so I have no idea.
However, I did notice something odd.
If you use Wifi Tether Router, you can actually access anything Google related just fine. However, if you try to access anything else, it doesn't work. (At least for me)
You guys watching to much porn LOL. Use the mod for hotspot.

Nope can't do that because I'm still on the stock recovery, and I'd like to stay that way.
Anyway I've figured out the issue is that I can only access anything through HTTPS. If I don't use HTTPS, then the site won't work. This is something T-mobile is blocking. Is there any way around this?

[Q] Cannot properly share Internet through tethering

Hi!
It's been a week since I've been using my ZenFone, and everything is quite nice (except maybe the fact that I had to manually enter my APN settings)... however, I have not been able to share my internet to my laptop via Wi-Fi, nor Bluetooth nor USB.
I know it's something to do with the phone, because this entire week I've had to carry around my old Nokia Lumia JUST for this purpose. Other than this, I've been enjoying full 4G LTE speeds and all. APN settings are correct.
Is there something I'm missing? Thanks in advance.

Really weird I have the 551 4gb ram 2.33ghz and works flawlessly. Really don't know what to tell u.
I have Asus Android USB drivers and there is a folder named tethering... I think you have to install those drivers...But as i know android doesn't need any drivers for tethering....Still i have provided you the zip file...You can try installing those drivers and then maybe try to tether your device...Please confirm the working of tethering/drivers if successful

Yeah, drivers aren't properly signed so I couldn't install them. I gotta enable that, so perhaps I'll try later... however, the problem is not that my laptop is not connecting to the Zenfone; it's the phone that is not letting any device connect to the Internet.
On Windows (Windows Phone, and iPhones and an LG that I've tested so far), it shows as a limited connection when using Wi-Fi or USB. I've attached a screenshot of these cases when trying to use my laptop.
Thanks again guys

Try this , it worked for me before for other Android phone.
Connect laptop via tethering , after connection disable data and enable again.
I haven't had any issues with the 551 1.8/4GB on the pre-root image.

I gave that a try, and didn't work. I think the phone is refusing to route anything to the Internet. I tried to make a simple DNS query and it refuses to respond; trying to use Google's DNS didn't work either. This is astonishingly weird.
EDIT: I've also just updated to 2.15 and problem persists, by the way.
Zenfone 2 could not tether with internet on Fido
I have the same problem with my Zenfone 2 4gb ram 64gb not getting internet access after laptop or other phone connected to its hot spot. My carrier Fido said there is no settings to get tethering to work, it should work automatically as long as data was working with the APN.
Cannot fine any help on resolving this issue, very frustrating since everything seems to work fine.
Problem Solved. Update your Zenfone to v2.18.40.12 for ZE551ML while v2.18.40.7 for ZE550ML.
This OTA update came out just recently in June and now tethering works on my phone plus a lot of upgraded features too.

Tethering & Portable Hotspot

I don't know if this is already been asked but anyway, I just got my Oneplus 3 recently and I'm loving every minute of my use but there is one problem which is bugging me the whole day.... I am not able to share my mobile carriers internet via USB Tethering or Portable Hotspot to another android device or PC.
WiFi is connected but not internet access. Is this something to do with Android 6.0 Marshmallow update or how do I enable Internet access to other devices? please guide me..... Thanks!

I actually had the same issue. I can tether and have a working connection for maybe 30 seconds and then there's no longer internet access. It has worked in the past (at least in August) before the last two updates. Currently on T-Mobile.

I am using oneplus 3 on T-mobile and get the same problem. after I configured my hotspot wifi on OP3, the other device can connect to it. but it would not get the internet access. I was on the bleeding edge 3.2.7 version of Oxygen OS. after talked to the tek support of oneplus, their level 2
guy resinstalled 3.2.1 oxygen OS on my device. after that, hotspot wifi works pretty well. so that was a software issue. I am not sure the patch between 3.2.1 to 3.2.7 has a bug on hotspot or the OTA update cause the issue. but anyway, it is working now.
Can anyone else confirm this is Oxygen OS 3.2.7 bug please??? i need to make sure before I downgrade back to 3.2.1.

Before you mess around with your efs partition i suggest just trying a custom rom . freedom if you like stock or any of the others if u not into stock...restoring efs is an almost impossible task
Reading this, it occurred to me I had not really tried tethering since I moved from my Nexus 5X to the OP3 a couple months ago. Just set up WiFi tethering and it seems to work perfectly.
- Using WPA2 PSK security
- Tethered device is a MacBook Air
- Carrier is T-Mobile US
- Stock ROM, unrooted, latest Oxygen OS 3.2.8
I use tethering on mine. 3.5.5 beta 7. No issues sharing with multiple devices.
I've been doing this a long time buddy and this is why it's happening to me cause when I'm on either AICP or RR 7.1 nougat it will not allow me to click the tethering button. Also I have my efs backed up to my computer and my phone. I realize there's a lot of newbs on here but I'm far from one of them. Im back on oxygen now on which I've never had any problems with any of the stock functions, ever
Hi! Has anyone managed to get this to work?
I'm having this situation for as long as I have my op3.. Can connect but no internet access.. If other phones serve as hotspot I can connect and have internet with no problems.
Any suggestions?
Stock phone, fully updated.
