I have a podcast app which download files onto micro sd, not internal memory. However under settings - storage - internal shared storage, it says the app is taking some gigabytes which of course include the files stored in the sd card. I checked with file manager that no podcast episodes are stored in the internal memory. What would be the issue? The developer doesn't know the answer.

Is there an option where I can choose between saving apps or photos into either the USB storage or device memory partition?

I'm interested in this as well. I've moved media files to the external sd card and the phone doesn't see them. System info widget is only showing 1.67 GB internal storage while I know that can't be right. Still trying to figure out storage on this device. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

For me, after I unplug the USB cable, it goes through a "Media Scan," and items that I had on the external SD Card are imported (at least ringers and notifications)... But I can't seem to get it to actually DO anything with the REAL SD Card... The phone thinks that the SD Card is the internal storage on the phone (the PHONE partition).
I copied some movie files over to the sd card to play them with Moobo, but there doesn't seem to be a way to navigate to them. I had to copy them to the PHONE partition.

Hmmm... I don't think my device is working that way if it's supposed to. I put my ringers and pictures on the external sd, but they didn't get imported. They weren't there when I tried setting a ringtone and the pics weren't in my gallery. I did get the media scan. I just assumed that it was an antivirus app? And my phone definitely isn't seeing my sd card as internal storage. My card is practically empty yet I'm only showing 1.67 GB internal storage. Of course that could be a problem with the widget, but it does drop if I install anything from the market.

On your SD card, do you have the ringers and notifications in the proper directory tree? Its got to be /media/audio/ringers or /media/audio/notifications
As for free space, when you go to SETTINGS ->STORAGE you should see THREE subsections... The first is your physical SD card, the second is "USB storage" which is the internal space you get to play with, and the third is "Device" storage, which is apparently 2GB instead of the 1GB as advertised.
Mine is working as expected.
SD card = 14.92 Total Available 11.68 GB (have a lot of photos, music videos and songs)
USB or Internal = 11.50 Total Available = 11.38 CB
Device Memory = 1.60 GB
The difference between actual and stated is for the hidden system files I guess.
does anyone have an answer to my original question?

As for the ringers, yup. The phone recognizes them when they're on the root of the card, just not in external sd.
And yes I did find storage in settings. Nothing matches up with what the widget shows so... That makes 2 or three apps that I regularly use that aren't working right on this phone.
The internal memory still seems low to me though. In settings it's showing 1.77 GB. I guess the problem here is that I'm not understanding how to use the storage available. On my 3d I have internal phone which is at almost 6 GB with around 100 apps installed. Never have used app to sd applications. My sd card is a 16 GB and its loaded down to about 7 GB free. Music, pics and ringtones all go to the SD card and the phone reads the files and uses them accordingly.
My GSII has about 50 apps and is showing 1.77 GB free, but that drops whenever I download a new app. So it seems as though if I approach 100 apps I'll run out of internal memory. No? That means I have no choice but to use an app to sd application?

I believe there's 16gb of total storage on the phone.
2gb is reserved for apps.
14gb is reserved for OS and "other" such as photos, media, etc...
If you go into Settings-> Applications -> Manage Applications and select an App that you downloaded, you'll get the option to move the App to the SD card. You might try that.
Cheers

Apps go to your 2gb partition and photos and music will go to the usb partition. You can move stuff from the usb partition to your as card. I downloaded ringtones and moved them to my as card and they work fine. As far as apps go if u download apps2sd supposidly u can move an apps to usb storage that way if u run out of your 2gb.

The problem is that once you move things to the SD card, you can't access them anymore, at least not from inside any apps that I've seen.
I'd love to put a bunch of MP3's and .AVI's on the SD card so I can play them, but none of the movie apps have an option to look at the SD card... Or rather, the CLAIM they look at the SD card, but really they're looking at the internal memory of the phone, not the actual SD card.
I have all of my media (mp3s and videos) on my external SD and they are being read just fine. Most apps will let you specify what location your media is stored. I use Mobo player and it lets you choose where the media directory is, even multiple directories. I use my external SD card so i point to: /mnt/sdcard/externa_sd/what ever folder name you want

Use a file explorer like Astro or ES File Explorer to manually place files (pics, movies, music) on the internal memory. Otherwise, plug your phone into a computer and place the files onto the internal memory. Courtesy of HTC, apps save to the "Phone Memory" using 150 mb's of the 748 mb. The main alternate save location for apps is the sd card thus the reason there is a "Move to sd card" option within each app's settings under "Settings/Applications/Manage Applications."

the computer sees the 2 Different Cards..
but when i try to find the internal SD card threw a file managers on the phone i can not see where it is.. i see it in settings... but when ever i try to use a file manager or ap manager it only gives me the external card to move aps to?
The 6 GB's of internal memory is listed as "emmc" and is inaccessible only if the rom dev says so. I'm not sure you are searching for the proper term, are you able to see "emmc" within your file manager? I took a look at Wildstang's Desired HD thread and his latest version supports emmc (internal memory). If I recall correctly, earlier versions did not have access to internal GB (the 6GB's of space) because the port is from a phone with no internal storage but this is no longer the case. You should be able to move photos, videos, music to emmc especially since you said have access to it via your computer.
1) Are you on his latest update?
2) What specifically are you asking for help with (moving apps or simply accessing that space)?
Edit: For moving apps, the most I know is that you can move apps to sd or back to your phone. In regards to expanding the 150mb partition of your internal memory, I have no experience doing so. Hopefully someone else can provide input on this.

thank you for the explanation..
i beleave i am running the latest version. (V.5) of Wildstang
yeah i was just wondering if there was a way to move contacts and aps to that internal memory so the other phone memory would be less crowded and maybe run smoother.
i dont understand how this memory is being used.. there is an internal SD memory.. that i guess is partitioned.. and the smaller partition is used for all the functions of the phone? what is the larger partition used for then?
so i can drop images and music to that section then from the PC
and put aps on the external SD only..
I believe I misinformed you, the 748mb's of of phone storage is all for apps. Im trying to recall where and why I got 150 mb's from.
748 mb = app storage
6.x gb of internal storage (emmc) = Whatever you want to save (music, videos, photos)
7.4 gb sd card = save music, videos, some apps, photos
Hope that clarifies appropriately.
But to use the internal storage, just copy and paste movie or music files to the emmc (if using file explorer on your phone) or using your computer into either "Mp3" folder or "Video" on the Internal memory. I don't play movies on my phone so I don't have experience with that at all. You'll know which is the internal memory vs. Sd card memory if you just look at the space available to identify one from the other.
I've been trying to free up some space on my internal memory by transferring nearly all my apps to my sd card using the "move to sd card' option in 4.3
Unfortunately it doesn't seem to transfer all all apps after giving the command. I check in app manager/sd card and they are all listed as transferred and they even have the "sd card app" size listed ,yet the largest apps are still on the internal storage, as the obb data are still there.
I've tried copying the entire obb folder to my sd card but I have no idea how to link the path so that the apps execute properly. If i try opening an app after deleting the obb file from internal default storage path, it just re-downloads the file from the server.
This is really annoying. I have just about every app "transferred" yet I'm nearly out of storage space. If I check the properties of my obb folder on internal storage its nearly 6 gb!
I have root. Please shoot me some ideas as to how to fix this, as i have been searching high and low the past 2 hours trying to find a work around.
I've also cleared about every cache and unneeded file.
Thanks!
Hi,
Recently I installed LineageOS 14.1 (unofficial build lineage-14.1-20171029-1955-d10f-UNOFFICIAL.zip). My phone is the Pentagram Monster X5 Pro, which has internal storage of 789MB (visible as portable) and quite low system space (~400MB) for applications.
When I configured the storage I got an option to format it as:
a) internal
When I formatted as internal my app space increased. On one of the screens it was told that I can copy the content on that storage by going to Settings > Storage. When I went there I could not see the internal storage, so no way to copy the content to the sd card formatted as internal storage. Also from the camera I cannot select this storage as it is not selectable.
Result: Big space for application, but very small space for media (as it still uses the internal sdcard of 798MB).
Is this a bug in the LineageOS?
b) portable
So I formatted as portable media hoping that I can move the apps to the external sd card. This can be done, but not all the apps will allow me to move to the sd card and not all the data can be moved. It still leaves some part in the internal system storage, which shrinks the available space to the point that updates of the applications cannot be done due to the lack of space.
Result: Big space for media, but out of space for apps updates.
So I was thinking to use the Link2SD app, where they suggested partitioning the external SD card into 2 primary partitions (1’st with FAT32, 2’nd with Ext3). I did that using AParted application, but after that LineageOS refused to use such media displaying that both cards (partitions) are corrupted and it offered to format them. After formatting the whole sd card became FAT32 and the second partition was gone.
Is there a way to partition and format the external SD card in some way so it will be accepted by LineageOS?
Regards,
Zaxon
P.S. I had some screenshots, but I cannot post links yet.
Hi,
I know it is not such a good idea to use an SD card as internal memory. But unfortunately it has now happened.
I use a Motorola G5s with Android 8.1, 64 GByte SD card as internal memory. Now I would like to switch to a new Android and backup everything via the Google cloud before (I have tried to use the backup in the settings of Whattsapp). Both Whatsapp backups and ThreemaBackups abort, probably because there is too little memory. The internal shared memory is given as 13.04 used by 32 GB and the SD as 63.06 used by 64 GB. I have removed Apps & Videos, only the internal shared memory becomes free. However, the backup problem remains.
I already accessed the folder of external memory via the Android settings and deleted the video, but they were right back, so they were not deleted. I could only delete them via PC; but the memory space was not freed up in the SD card memory either, but in the internal memory.
It seems to me that the SD card memory is too full, but I can't free up any storage space there either?
What can I do? How can I make Whats App etc. find enough memory again?
Kind regards
Alex
Hi,
I try to migrate the data. Migration was aborted with error "not enough memory"; all data still there, only no improvement.
Does anyone know what I can do? SD formatted as internal, not migrated, migration aborted. Deleting files won't make things any better. We can't store anything on the device anymore, accordingly no backups can be made using the Whatsapp app
