I have open gapps installed on my T-Mobile Galaxy S5 with lineage os. When I flashed GAPPS, I had two problems. The first one is, there is no smart Lock option in settings even though I watched it get installed when I was flashing it through TWRP recovery. My second problem is, any time I try to got into the settings on gboard, the app crashes. HELP!

I installed lineage-14.1 and at first installed the GApps Aroma package and it said it installed fine but nothing was installed when my phone booted up. No app store, gmail, nothing. So I started over and installed the pico package which gave me the playstore. Its a start and I downloaded what I needed. However as im playing around with my phone I am noticing some annoyances
- Not detecting my contacts from sim card or from google ( sim card is detected an calls/mms work)
- certain apps not even working such as the camera app. Not so much a problem as I can download a functional one from the playstore but I would like the issue resolved
- Cant root the phone, I tried towel root, kingroot, and Odin (which is how I originally rooted it)
- missing settings such as turning off the touch button lights
Any ideas? Suggestions for a different custom rom? Big thanks in advance
What is the phone model?
The phone is running the latest bootloader and modem?
What version of TWRP did you use?
Tried different versions of Open Gapps (http://opengapps.org/)?
Hi all,
Detailing my issue;
Oneplus 3, running custom Rom Resurrenction Remix, ElementalX kernel, all running well. Had previously installed roms a few times on the device without issues
Phone froze after using an app made by my company for a yearly event - must not have been compatible with my device. Restarting phone, bootloop.
Clearing cache/Dalvik - boot, data lost...
Trying to reinstall my Resurrection Remix rom. Tried all the old files I had from my last install, they all were still in my storage folder (OnePlus 3 firmware, the rom, the Gapps package, Elementalx... which worked on my past install)
Upon first boot (setting up the phone), all the google apps close one after the other constantly.
I re-try a full clean install (Cache, Dalvik, Data, System), latest Resurrenction official (5.8.3), latest firmware (Oneplus3_4.1.1Firmware+Modem), tried the suggested Gapps (BeanGapps Mini 7.1) but tried also nano, stock (always ARM64 for 7.1). Of course a new clean wipe between each test. Don't even bother with ElementalX until issue resolved...
And I am still getting my Google apps crashing upon phone setup, or in case of minimum gapps packs as soon as I finish installing them, incapable of opening...
Spent a few hours yesterday trying to get this right - what am I missing? Anything that is not deleted from my Clean wipe? What changed? For now my phone runs on a backup I still had running OOS nougat... but really want to get back to custom Rom.
Any lead? Many thanks for any help.
in twrp select mount and pick system
go back to the main screen then select advanced then file manager go to root/system/etc/setupmanager/setupmanager.apk
delete the file or rename it then reboot the phone
Hi everyone
I have got a Samsung Tab Pro 10.1 (SM-T520) and it unfortunately stopped updating due to it been so old and was left behind on android KitKat 4.4.
So I decided to root it and download the lineage update to get android 7.1.2 custom ROM on it and give it a bit of life instead of never been used because it's slow and blotchy.
When I download the ROM everything worked really well, moment installed Gapps it when pear shaped. I was met with "android is starting" message stopping me from do anything but go on settings through notifications bar and it made my keyboard disappear.
So I just flashed the lineage ROM back to standard without Gapps. I have tried most of the Gapps packages that they make and I get the same thing every time with the missing keyboard.
My real question is can build a set of google apps through apk. I have tried installing google play, google play services and google play frame something (can't remember the last one) all of them either don't work or crash and just not stop being up a message saying each one of them isn't working.....what apps do need to install or flash to build up my own set of google apps without using Gapps
(Just some notes at the end to help, I rooted using root genius, my custom boot is TWRP, I installed TWRP via odin and lineage seems to be the only ROM that does a android 7 for my device, the apps I want working are google play store, google app, google maps, google assistant (if possible), gmail and maybe calender. The rest of them are on my non rooted s7e so don't need them on the tablet.)
Hope someone can help
hello
there " http://opengapps.org/ " use aroma version
or there " https://www.apkmirror.com/ "

Thanks.
In the end I just picked and tried flashing different Gapps packages, when a package I tried wouldn't work I just flashed installed the original lineage 14.1 ROM, to wipe the Gapps package....after trying about 4 different packages from Gapps I think the micro package worked.
Just can't get android assistant to work now, do anyone have any ideas???
hello
before installing opengapps u should wipe data, cache, walvick
regards
While updating/installing apps from the google playstore, the phone will crash and bootloop, and requires a full reinstall to get it working normally. I've attached 2 logcat files for both roms which give the same problem - Mokee5.1, CM13 on a clean installation with pico gapps and manually selecting several apps to install. One other custom rom also gave the same problem so I didn't bother trying any other custom roms. Reverting back to stock MIUIv8 gave no issues.
CM13 used to be mostly problem free until a few months ago I think when the update/install issue started happening. The playstore auto update is normally kept disabled on my phone so I'm unaware about when the problem really started happening.
Edit-
It doesn't seem to be happening anymore from a short test after flashing my CM13 backup but I've moved on to LO14.1
It may have something to do with some other complaints that people are having. It looks like some issue with Cynogenmod since Sept/Oct 2017 which needs some patching.

Can confirm the issue with CM13 on my Galaxy S3. Unfortunately, I do not know a solution. Just stick to older app versions.
First update since installing Lineageos on Lenovo P2.
The navigation bar along the bottom disappeared. Couldn't be swiped up - had been fixed previously.
Then found other things as well. Fingerprint sensor not working. Pixel launcher failing. Had been using Nova launcher and foolishly removed it thinking I'd reinstall to see if it restored the nav bar. But now stuck with a failing launcher and can't start anything - including Play to reinstall Nova. Just says 'Pixel Launcher keeps stopping, App info, Close App.' Cleared cache from App info as that was all I could do but no difference.
I haven't read it anywhere but are updates cumulative? Ie, can I skip one if I miss it and get all updates rolled up into the next one. I hope so because that's what I did. Jumped from something like 9th August to 30th.
Any ideas?
Current update always include codes from previous builds so you can skip nightlies in between. There are few solutions for your problem. I'm telling you two:
1. Install a third party launcher apk through system settings
2. Reboot into TWRP, wipe system only and install latest update package with nano gApps and it should work.

Thanks so much for your help. In fact, while trying your first suggestion I somehow got into Google Play through APK install settings from where I was able to reinstall Nova Launcher. So now I have a partly useable phone again but still with the problems that followed the update in my OP (navigation bar gone, fingerprint sensor stopped working plus the failing launcher - those are just the things I found without looking).
It's disappointing that the update failed though, not least as staying updated was a major reason for moving to Lineage. Any ideas why this might be?
Maybe I should try the second suggestion and reinstall the update by sideloading as described here. So do I use the same file that I use to install LineageOS in the first place from here https://download.lineageos.org/kuntao? It's not stated in the document. And will this wipe the phone clean again?
Finally would I have to re-sideload a GApps package at the same time and should it be Nano GApps as suggested? Originally I installed Open GApps as suggested in the upgrade instructions.

The Pixel launcher in Android 10 force closes if it is not chosen as "Recents provider". Therefore, navigation bar also stops working. Hence, we need Quickswitch app to choose Pixel or any other launcher such as Lawnchair for giving them the mentioned right and that works without any hiccups.
You should install the latest update after wiping system only. You don't need to wipe everything, just wipe system partition.
Nano GApps are taken from Open Gapps website. I've suggested nano GApps because it doesnt include Pixel Launcher hence, stock ROM launcher will flawlessly work. However, if you want to use Pixel Launcher then install Magisk from recovery and Quickswitch module within Magisk. Then open Quickswitch app from launcher and click Pixel Launcher. Quickswitch app will process for a few moments and will restart your phone. Now, choose Pixel launcher as default from settings if it is not used as default and Done.

Many thanks again for your detailed help. Much appreciated.
Went for standard Open GApps just because that's what I had before and had hoped to get it all back as it was. (I've no particular preference for Pixel only that was all that was available to me after updating through updater. ) I've got the update loaded now, sideloaded with adb and TWRP. Unfortunately I seem to have accidentally factory reset from TWRP (thought I was just swiping to unlock and only noticed too late. Doh.)
TBH, this has been a whole lot of hassle for an update. After hours to get this far now have to set phone up from scratch yet again. And crucially, I still don't know why updater failed. Going to be very nervous about running update in future and staying updated was the main point of moving to Lineage in the first place.
But thanks for help again.

No problem bro. Next time, when you update, follow these things:
1. Keep ROM, Magisk and GApps in a single folder.
2. When updating ROM, just install the ROM and restart.

Thanks again. That's good information. So you recommend not using the Updater but adb sideloading instead?
OK, and I just read this at stackexchange "You normally don't need to re-flash GApps as most GApps installers will install an addon.d script which restores GApps automatically after flashing a new ROM that supports addon.d (LineageOS does so)." So if GApps is in the same folder it finds it automatically I guess.
I'd better clue myself up on Magisk now and a decent backup system.
cheers

Built in update works as required but if it messes with system partition then you better download update and install it through recovery.
GApps can be restored after update but the point is that you don't need it. System update only replaces the older system files with new ones without touching gApps files. Whereas, Magisk is automatically installed after update if it's in the same folder.
