OPO Internal Storage Not Accessible - LineageOS Questions & Answers

This question is in relation to my other active thread. https://forum.xda-developers.com/lineage/help/app-installation-issues-lineage-os-14-1-t3590758
I wiped CM12.1 OPO and the Internal Storage in the hopes of removing any remnants of few apps that are not installing as per the above thread. But now the internal storage isnt accessible anymore. Only via TWRP connected to the laptop am I able to load files in to the 64GB Internal Storage of the OPO. Otherwise creating simple folders and copying data using the inbuilt Files App of Lineage OS14.1 Nightly (April 10th 2017 Build) or even File Transfer Protocol or MTP from Laptop to the device isnt happening. Taking a screenshot, using the camera, transferring data via ShareIt are not working anymore as the message received is insufficient storage space. My guess is that the boot partition is the only space these apps are being allowed to use (which obviously isnt enough) Apps however are getting installed into the internal storage. TWRP and Android are the only two folders in the Internal Storage. How do I take care of this issue? Please help! SOMEONE!

[SOLVED] External SD card problem

Hi I am kinda a noob so sorry if anything comes off stupid. I have an T-mobile Samsung Galaxy s4 (rooted) and whenever I connect it to my computer, which is running windows 7 64bit, it sees my internal memory, but not my external. I can see it in settings and I can in it with dropbox, file explorer and all those, but not my computer. I have usb bugging checked. I can also access it from TWRP. I formatted it I wiped all data, I looked through these forms but nothing. I also can't move any files to the internal storage from my computer. I have camera checked and not media. Oh and I am running 4.2.2 Google Edition Rom, if that helps. I also have a 16 gb external SD. All I can see in internal is DCIM and pictures. OOOHHHH man i feel really stupid sorry guys camera settings for usb blocks the external storage and that is why I couldn't find or transfer files. I have answered my own question and sorry for the trouble and noobiness.

[Q] SGH-i747 shows external SD card as "internal storage"

Good morning,
I have inadvertently found myself where my SGH-i747 running Cyanogenmod 4.4.2 nightly, presently 5/27/2014, shows storage as swapped. I.E. When I go to settings/storage I see 6GB external and 16 GB internal. This wouldn't be a problem except for the fact that I'm getting insufficient storage available even though over 10 GB are shown as available. When I go into a file Explorer there are multiple emulated paths with redundant files/folders.
I'm looking for a thread that will show me how to format both internal and external storage followed by a reinstall of the OS. I've looked for days and while I see plenty of instructions where the OS sees the storage properly, I'm not sure it will work in my environment.
Does the fact that my phone has the storage swapped make a difference when doing a full blown format and reinstall?
If I do need to follow a different set of steps because my storage is logically swapped, would you please point me in the right direction?
My end goal is to have the majority of my storage usable. I have very few apps installed, no pictures, etc... Yet I'm constantly getting out of storage errors. If there's a simpler way than to format the whole device, reinstall OS then restore apps and data, please point me to the right post.
Thank you in advance for your time and assistance.

Frank

Do you see the same storage swap when you view your device on a computer rather than checking on the device itself? I would suggest you switch to a stable or (even if temporarily) stock ROM to see if there would be any changes. Once you've backed up your data, apps etc, a complete system restore would format your device whilst you can easily format the (external) SD card on your computer. Also check the SD card you are using to be sure it is legit and the listed storage capacity is indeed the actual storage. There have been quite a few complaints about SD cards purchased especially on places like eBay that are listed as one thing but are actually another.
Also idk if this helps but KitKat reads SD cards differently so you might be getting weird values

How the M8 handles an SD card as internal Storage.

This is a completely 'unsexy' issue I have - but is driving me nuts, and I can't seem to find the answer anywhere else (which is causing me to doubt my own sanity).
My reason for using the internal rather than external is that whilst external works on some apps where you can explicitly point to the SD, there are enough where it doesn't (spotify), and I was hoping OS level settings would resolve my issues.
Enough preamble.
Marshmallow is supposed to handle SD cards properly, and I have two marshmallow devices with SD cards I've formatted as internal storage.
First up, my nVidia shield K1 where I understand it.
I put the SD card in, format it to the device and end up with two items displayed under settings->storage - internal and SD memory.
When I install an app it initially goes internal, but I can move it move it to SD, and when I launch it the app it can only see the storage it's been installed on.
i.e. podcast, plex, spotify I anticipate to use a chunk of space that doesn't have to be fast. So I install them, move to the SD, load the app, they report 128GB of space and happily use it.
All great. Whole kaboodle stays on the SD.
On my M8 though, it completely broken - except I can't find anybody else ripping out their hair - hence the questioning of my own sanity.
I add the SD and format as internal. I choose the apps I consider to be "high-capacity" and move them on my SD. The app installs there - just when it downloads anything, it dumps it to the internal storage still.
e.g. I've got a 20Mb podcast app I've moved to my SD. Within the app I've selected internal storage (being the only option) - but when triggering the download it's put all the MP3s on my internal storage and my phone is bleating that is has no free space and bad things are about to happen.
AFAIK the Marshmallow update to my M8 is completely broken, and the simplest thing I can do is just mount my SD externally and use hope apps requiring storage allow me to select it.
Just can't believe it's that broken and hoping somebody can point me towards how I can resolve it.

I have the same, insanity inducing problem and hope some has found a solution since this post. I hope this reopens the tread and some one can help me out.
ThankS
Hmm was looking at getting a m8 as well but if adaptable storage is broken the phone won't be of any use to me. I hope we can find answers and solutions.

Problems with Storage.

Hi, my name is Julian, I am a newbie and I've got two big problems with the Galaxy J5(I think 2016) with 8GB internal and a 32GB SD Card, Stock Gapps and Lineage Os:
Internal Storage Issue
The Phone constantly says “Not enough Storage”, although there are NO extra Apps installed, except Whatsapp, and he has no personal Data(Images, movies, etc....)
BUT when I look in the Storage option in the Settings, the Calculation is not correct. It says : 3Gb for Android, 1,5GB for Apps and maybe 0,5Gb for Data, but the rest is not showing up.
SD Card to Internal Issue
So because of the 1. Issue, we decided to format the SD Card as an internal Storage. We searched up where this Option is to find and then we tried it. During the process it told us that we would free up about 2Gb of the Internal when moving stuff to the new formatted SD, so we did it, but after all There is no Extra Storage, and we are still not able to install apps from Google Play to the SD Card.(And it also says that 16GB of the SD Card are for the Android System, even if there are only 2 small Files or so).
I would be really thankful if you could try to fix our problems, because we can't go back to Stock because the Backup was broken and the copy from the PC doesn't even show up in TWRP(nor with the Backup function, neither with the File explorer function).

I don't have this device but, since there's no Official LineageOS released and, your not sure which J5 you have, here's the only Unofficial LineageOS 14.1 that's currently active that's specific to the J5 (2015).

Storage is a general problem. Not device specific.
It is no good idea to use stock GApps. A minimal gapps is enough. You can install Google apps from play store.
WhatsApp doesn't use adapted storage AFAIK. Especially videos use much memory. Delete them all.

Does someone try the adoptable storage since the last Nokia 6.1 update?

Hello,
Normally, in a perfect world, adoptable storage should allow to enhance memory thank to the sd card.
Anyone who tried to use the adoptable storage with the Nokia 6.1 encountered the problem of corrupt datas.
See
https://forum.xda-developers.com/nokia-6-2018/how-to/adoptable-storage-available-pie-update-t3873841
Does someone enough brave already try again to activate this adoptable storage?
Thanks you
yes, I retried it last week (with latest official patch applied).
I migrated > 10GB of data. Afterwards I checked 'DCIM' and 'Download'. All files got totally corrupted (looks like every byte different).
It seems that newly created files were not corrupted. (Was just a fast check with 2-3 pictures)
I migrated back and removed SD card. Files still corrupted. During the last test in ~2019 I figured out that the files some when magically got fixed again some time after migrating back. Hope this happens again this time...
Maybe it also just needs some time after migrating to reencrypt the files for the SD card?
Does anybody know more about the internal processes during and after migration?
Hi, I didn't try the above method, but I used adb commands to format the SD-Card as internal. It basically worked and I am able to run the apps that I migrated to the external card.
HOWEVER:
1. The external card and it's files are completely invisible to any file-system-apps. So I can't see the data.
2. Apps that require some kind of login never keep that login. If you close the app and start it again, you need to login again. This seems to indicated that the apps have been migrated, but are unable to actually use the external space to save new files.
Does anyone think that rooting the device would help?
Cheers,
Calon
my experience with adaptable storage was the same as krisha2k's. all migrated user data I had appeared to become corrupted, and most apps that I moved to the sd card either couldn't save any app data (game saves/logins) or even lost functionality (Snapchat friends list disappeared). some really old and ancient apps that I moved to adoptable storage kept their saves etc (ice cream jump, Neko atsume).
I also found that games with in-app downloads would save their download to the internal storage, as well as external when the app appeared to be stored on the external only.
most apps are broken because of newer android changes that protect external storage write access (and i think read too). I'm not an expert in that though. just speculation
in the end, I just did a factory reset and I've settled with using the sd card as portable storage and storing large files on there (4k video from camera etc).
its a shame because it was a spare 128GB card I had lying around, and I would have liked to have some bigger apps installed, but it doesn't matter too much. but I guess that's just how things are now.
i personally wouldn't recommend doing it. you have potentially everything to loose if you accidentally migrate all your internal data, and what seems to be absolutely nothing to gain.
