CyanogenMod Settings app gone - LineageOS Questions & Answers

I have an GT-i9300
I know that Cyanogenmod is discontinued, but listen when I enabled Wifi to my phone today I got this message. I took this sceenshot before I pressed OK.
Here is what it actually says:
"Do you want to uninstall this harmful app?
(warning sign) 'Settings'
This app has code that can go around Andorids security.
More details
Even if you have heard about this app or the developer, the app can still harm the device. 'Do not warn again'
'Keep it anyway (not safe)' OK "
But I mindlessly pressed OK. And so now the whole settings are gone. Poof. Anyone who can help me?

This is called a PSA (Poisoned System Directories) warning from Google Play that warns users to uninstall apps that modify certain system controls and functions like SELinux-related apps and such that's typically used on Rooted and/or Unlocked devices.
The following link has a good little "how to" for Disabling the Android's "App is harmful" Security Alerts

I wish you the best of luck!

[Q] USB Debugging Disabled by OTA 4.4?

I had rooted my phone out of the box, and last week installed the Android 4.4x OTA update. Which unrooted it, without protest or comment.
Today I went to root the phone again, only to find the menu function for Settings/General/Developer_Options/USB_Debugging no longer exists. In fact, the entire "Developer Options" section has been removed.
Does anyone know if that's been hidden somewhere? Moved? Or just locked out?
Will a root still work, if the choice of enabling USB Debugging is no longer there?

I have no idea what that "7 times" comment means.
But to answer the question, apparently USB debugging was either left on (as I had it) or is the new default, I've been able to re-root over the OTA 4.4.x

OH.
Thank you very much.
Now, when I find the guy who took that option off the menus and put up a secret tap-x-7 to enable it...Would you like to hold them for me? Or shall I hold them while you beat them? And after we get warmed up, we find the folks who *approved* that programming, and change places.
Tap 7x....
IS THIS *ING ZORK??
Again, thanks.
It's been that way for the last couple versions of Android. It's too protect us from ourselves

PM Plus for Honor 7

I happened to stumble across this add-on for Phone Manager in the Play Store recently. It looks legit and seems to add a genuinely useful feature or two to PM.
Thoughts? Anyone played with this?

it's an official app
i use it daily
Yes its official... Its a bit of xprivacy feeling directly coming from huawai.
I just want to let people know this:
After I installed it, all of a sudden the smart-headset button-function, as well as music controls on my Sony Smartwatch 3, didn't work for some of my music-apps. At first I thought it was a problem in the B320 firmware, but it had worked before... However, after allowing auto-launch of my music apps in the phone manager (TIDAL, for example), it worked again.
So in case anyone finds that they can't control their music via headset or smartwatch or have other issues after installing PM Plus, go to phone manager -> app auto-lauch (this is on Marshmallow, it's called "startup manager" on Lollipop, I think) and enable the apps that cause trouble
I can not find the app in Play Store. When I open the link on my laptop, under the name of the app there is a X sign with the text "This app is incompatible with your device." When I click on the text it appears "Vodafone HUAWEI PLK-L01", my device.
Does anyone know why I got this message, why the app is not compatible with my device??

same for me. no soloution ?
Same here, so annoying
yup, same here. I went and purged all my firefox extensions since that's what most results online said to do, but still getting it on a new profile with only Adblock Plus and Lastpass.
Update: Apparently Adblock Plus added a whitelist for criteo.net for some reason. I disabled those whitelist rules and now no longer get the download dialog box.

Good Find! Adblock Plus is whitelisting a lot of crap lately, looks like I have to move to UBlock Origin or something like that.
While removing it from the white list in Adblock is a bandaid solution, shouldn't XDA be fixing this?? I mean this has been going on for days now. I can't believe they're not doing anything about it.
Man that was annoying, even cleared my cookies and all other 'recent history' to no avail.
Finally I unticked 'Allow some nonintrusive advertising' which seemed to solve the problem, at least for now.
No problem here.
This's still annoying me
Possible fix
Oddly enough, disabling the filter that contains address of the site that prompts the download seems to fix it.
ABP -> Open Blockable items -> Search for the url (cas.criteo.com in my case) -> Disable filter

Works for me thank you.
I was getting this too. Disabling "allow some advertising" fixed it (for now...).

XDA Depot Relentless Spam Emails

Ever since the new forum came about, I've been getting daily emails from [email protected]. I've tried unsubscribe multiple times, unchecked every box in account settings, and made a ticket request there (seems that request went into a black hole) but I KEEP GETTING THIS SPAM MAIL. It goes straight to my spam box now but seriously, can these things get shut off?

The forums & update to Xenforo are definitely unrelated to the XDA Depot stuff. This is actually a totally separate company. I'll reach out to those here with the relationship to Stackcommerce to see if we can figure out what is going on.

Question Any way to remove VPN persistent notification?

I'm rooted on OOS12, and I recently switched to using AdGuard VPN. Now I have two more persistent notifications cluttering up my notification space: The AdGuard notification which I can turn off, and the Android System notification that says "VPN activated" which I cannot turn off or minimize. I want to get rid of that useless system notification - is there any way to do that? Magisk module, etc.?
I seem to recall finding a way to do this on a previous device, but my guess is I was using some mod that isn't available for the 9Pro (Gravity Box or XXXNoLimits, maybe).
Search for 'status icons' and turn off vpn.
Alternatively you can use a private dns such as dns.adguard.com

Status Icons gets rid of the icon in the top right (the key icon) but not the persistent notification.
I intentionally switched to AdGuard VPN for the app-level control because I need to allow ads in certain apps. I was previously changing my DNS settings with Tasker when I launched specific apps, but it was a major hassle and didn't work reliably.
Whatever persistent notification you have just silence it and it disappears. I have blokada running and no notifications at all

That's exactly what I'd love to do, but there is no way I can find to make it go away. It can't be swiped, and if I long press it says these notifications cannot be modified. This happens with all VPNs, not just those used for ad blocking.
Found a solution, though not a perfect one. The app "Auto Notifications" can intercept the notification and prevent it from displaying. Running another background app isn't ideal, but beggars can't be choosers, I'll take it!
