But will it sync with Outlook?

Hi All,
I've searched on this topic but can't find a full answer.
Seems it is possible to sync but not automatically as with WinMo.
Does anyone have the definitive answer?
Yes it will provided your company doesn't have any additional security demands.
I work for a company that imposes certain security rules that the Android Exchange sync doesn't support like forcing the device to have PIN to unlock the phone. Its to protect the email on the device in the event of lost or theft. It'll also permanently lock the device if 10 failed attempts are made. It can only be unlocked via our corporate mail server. So the thief or finder would have to re-flash the device in which case the corporate data would be gone from it and be safe.
If you company uses such security rules, you won't be able to use the integrated exchange sync. You can purchase the Exchange Sync app by Touchdown and it will work regardless of your security policies.
Yes it should by using HTC Sync ...my wife's Hero has no problems. However, she typically syncs Outlook with her Google account and the phone is automatically kept synced with that.
i think the desire has more advanced exchange intergration, check out the product description on htc's website
Your work email, calendar appointments, and contacts, are right there on your phone - you can even look up any company contact in the global address book. The HTC Desire also has enhanced support for Exchange security features such as password protection and remote data wipe

You are absolutely correct. I've been waiting for this for quite sometime. Thanks to your post, I decided to check the UK version of their website and found all the info on it there. Their US site doesn't appear to have any data for this device.

i'm using the Desire ROM on my Nexus One and - assuming no change in the Exchange features at production - it will have full exchange integration, including that FRIGGIN pin! i can't speak to the wipe features because i haven't tested that (and don't plan to, lol). since my Exchange email is from a personal account, i had my service provider disable the PIN requirement so i can use the pattern lock feature instead.
I don't believe it has [full] support for 'desktop' outlook sync? I used to use my WinMo device to sync to a work Exchange account but have had a blackberry so no need for that.
What I still need to do is sync to my home computer's Outlook via Active Sync to sync contacts, calendars, tasks, etc.
I believe the HTC Sync is a bit limited in this respect? The only answer that I get on searching the net is to use Google services, not really an ideal solution for those who do not/want to use it.
So is it possible to switch off syncing with google servers and just sync with the Outlook on my home PC?

What application do you use for syncing her Hero? I am using GSyncIT but I think it has limitations... and costs £10!

I think the poster mentioned that HTC Sync is used for this. Although I dont think it does Tasks?
MyLink
Just found this software (out in April):
http://www.wavestore.co.uk/index.php/products/mylink-desktop.html
The Advanced version is already out but lacks OTA sync'ing.
It's a bit sad that what I would consider to be a fundamental piece of software for any phone, for the foreseeable future, we will have to pay for. But a small price to pay for the other benefits of an Android phone.
If you want to Sync Outlook and Gmail I use GSyncIt - £10.
I don't really like the fact that Google doesn't support Tasks 'explicitly' (I believe it uses another instance of a calendar to achieve this?).
Not important to those who dont make use of tasks of course.

I was excited and then very disappointed. The Mylink software does a sync via a multi-step process.
after the USB connection...
Mount the SD
run the sync software on the PC
unmount the sd
run the sync app on the device
After that's all done, you can only access the sync'd data via a custom app.
MyLink is just useless
Is there a reason that there's no app that syncs with Desktop outlook, like Windows Mobile via Active Sync? Is there a restriction on using Active sync, or is the protocol unknown?
but HTC Sync does that surely?Thats what I'm hoping for anyway! I need to sync with TWO desktops (neither exchange) calendar and contacts, and preferably tasks. From what I've read HTC Sync will do calendar and contacts to a desktop PC via USB
It does. But, HTC Sync requires the HERO Framework, so stock android users are out of luck.

Too good to be true comes to mind now (!)

[Q] Weather sync provider has too many permissions?

I just noticed that "HTC weather sync provider" has just too many permissions, in my opinion. It might just seem that it has all possible permissions:
Your personal information (add or modify calendar events and send email to guests, read calendar events, read contact data, write contact data)
Services that cost you money (directly call phone numbers)
Your messages (edit SMS or MMS, read SMS or MMS)
Your location (coarse (network based) location, fine (GPS) location, mock location sources for testing)
Network communication (full Internet access)
Your accounts (act as an account authenticator, Google Calendar, Google mail, manage the accounts list, use the authentication credentials of an account)
Storage (modify/delete SD cards contents)
Hardware controls (record audio, take pictures)
System tools (change your UI settings, modify global system settings, mount and unmount filesystems, prevent phone from sleeping, retrieve running applications, set time zone, write subscribed feeds, write sync settings)
Click to collapse
And then, hidden:
Default (useTwitterProvider)
Your location (access extra location provider commands)
Network communication (view network state, view Wi-Fi state)
Your accounts (discover known accounts, view configured accounts)
Hardware control (control vibrator)
System tools (automatically start at boot, disable keylock, expand/collapse status bar, read subscribed feeds, read sync settings, read sync statistics)
Click to collapse
I copied this here by hand, reading from my Desire.
Do you think it's okay that a "weather sync provider" can act as a spy program, that can shoot photos, record audio, know where I am, access all of my account data, wipe my phone?
Do all Desires' weather sync provider have the same set of permissions, or could this be because of a recent FOTA update I installed?
I discovered this because I was investigating about continuous crashes of com.htc.bgp service after FOTA update: that service seems related to weather information sync.
Please, can anybody confirm that his Desire has the same set of permissions posted above granted to HTC weather sync provider?

[Q] HTC Sense (FriendStream) + Facebook App

hi!
i have a little problem.
as i installed the facebook app, it automatically synch all FB contacts, even if i uncheck "contact synch".
is there a way to get rid of the HTC friendstream stuff? i think it works together, i never logged in in the friendstream thing, but it shows all the same as in the FB app.
on my evo 3D it was not the problem, but i have this the first time on my One X.
You can disable both Facebook for HTC Sense and Friendstream if you don't need them.
Go to settings -> apps -> all
Tap on the apps name you will see disable button
And you can enable them at any time you want to

[Q] "new task" not working

I've frozen a boatload of stuff with Titanium Backup. Included in that list is the default calendar app (but not the calendar app storage). Instead I use Calengoo.
Now I've placed a Calengoo widget on my screen for "new task" but when I press it, nothing happens.
I installed Google Tasks Organizer, and placed a widget on the screen. It did sync up with the tasks I had sitting around on Google Calendar. I am able to add a new task with that widget.
This indicates to me that I have frozen something on my gs3 that handles tasks within the gs3 itself. I don't know what. It's not an emergency but I'd like to try the built in to do list. So, I'll list what I've frozen with TB, and maybe someone can tell me what the problem is:
allshare cast
allshare controller
allshare play

Sync Individual Accounts?

Under Accounts & Sync, I only have one main toggle for syncing all accounts.
Previously on Samsung in 4.4 I had toggles for each account.
I would like to sync some accounts but I do not wish to sync google contacts, data etc. If I disable sync then nothing syncs (email, etc). I would like to use the play store.
I am currently deleting the google account and turning sync ON . Then when I wish to install something, I turn sync OFF, login to google, install apps, then logout etc...
I'd like to somehow install apps without having to sync other google data if that's possible. This was possible on a samsung with 4.4.
I don't know if this is an Android version issue, a ROM issue or something else. I am currently using Fulmics 6.7
I've never used the stock ROM.
bump
Anyone have any ideas?
