<APP> Access "Range" to empty to show on Launcher? - MTCB Android Head Units Q&A

Hi,
I have an MTCB unit and the seller has created (what I think is) a custom app that controls the HVAC for the car. Within the app, you can choose to view "Info" - this screen shows Range to Empty, Average Speed, and another item.
I would like to figure out how to access Range to Empty so I can show it on the main screen of a Launcher I am developing. Does anyone know how to access this - I'm assuming it's through the CANBUS?
Thanks in Advance. (I would post this in the development section, but as this is my first post, I am not allowed to post in there.
Cheers

Is there a way to have more than 2 sites in the App Tab?

Hi everyone,
i have a lot of apps on my htc touch hd but i want to have all my favorite apps in the app tab in TouchFlow3D. Now i have reached the end of the possible icons there.
My question is, is there a way to have more than 2 sites of icons in these tab?
thanks

is there realy no way?
I think I read here how you can add some more shortcut locations in the programs tab, but I can't find it anymore. I just tried searching the forum. Maybe someone else knows where it was. Or you can try searching again. I think the post said something about 2x12 locations (which is what it has by default) or 4x6 or something like that. If I find it, I'll post back.
Hmm, well I found this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=455138&highlight=programs+tab
where they can add 6 more slots, but it doesn't seem to work properly.
One suggestion for you in the mean time is to delete the first six shortcuts that came as default. They are actually locked so you can't delete them, but you can change that in the registry.
Go to:
HKLM - Software - HTC - Manila - ProgramLauncher
There you will find 24 directories for the 24 shortcut locations.
The first 6 (so 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5) have a value of 1 in the "read only" section. Change that to 0. Now you can go to the programs tab and erase those and then add other ones that you want.
I'm also curious if you can add more shortcut locations. Hopefully someone else will know if it is possible.

[Q] Drawer Category definition...

Can anyone tell me how/where you define the categories under the app drawer?
Each time I flash a ROM, I lose my category definitions, although any home screen "launcher action" widgets can be recovered. If I can match the order in which I defined the categories then my widgets will be ok.
I'm guessing that when you add a new catalog, you add some sort of file with a number and that is linked in the launcher action widget. e.g. Add new catogory "Office" to the menu maps to /data/data/appdrawer/categories/1.xml (I'm guessing the location and format - hopefully someone can let me know how it really works!)
That file 1.xml contains the name "Office" somewhere in its definition (or even somewhere else relative to the launcher/appdrawer) so that 1.xml can be identified as "Office"
However, when you create a launcher action widget, I think that a link is created and that that doesn't care about the name (you can call the widget whatever you want) so your widget might be "Office.wdgt" which is linked to "1.xml" from above. That works until you flash a new rom and then you have to remember that you created the "Office" category first otherwise the widget, which still links to "1.xml" will point to the newly defined first category...
I've got about 9 or 10 categories and it's a PITA trying to remember the order I've defined them in. If I could interrogate a file somehow through adb or via the terminal, that'd be great as I could at least recover my categories in the correct order and not have to recreate all of the widgets.
[Edit]
Alternatively - Does anyone know how to disassemble the ADW backup files? It's these that are referencing the drawer categories, so perhaps I can work it out from the ADW backup...
[/Edit]
Can anyone help?
Thanks in advance
Bingo - I think.
The adw_ex_launcher.db file is an SQLite database which can be viewed using sqljet-browser or any other SQLite browser software. In there, there is a favorites table and the data has title and intent columns (amongst others) Within the intent data the CATALOG_INDEX is defined and this ranks the categories as needed.
At least with this I can setup my categories, knowing that they're defined in the correct order and I don't have to mess around with redefining both catalogs and home screen launcher actions.
Hope this helps someone else...

[Q] Got any suggestions for this homescreen?

Based on: http://mycolorscreen.com/2013/10/18/google-ui-13/
Screenshots here: https://imgur.com/a/u6yML#2
I'm quite happy with the 'Home' page, and the 'Google' page, but I'm not sure entirely how to go about doing the apps page.
I was thinking of doing it all with zooper widget (like the google page - none of those are actual icons, it's all zooper widget.) in order to position things properly, because the launcher grid doesn't allow actual icons to be placed in appropriate positions.
I need some music controls somewhere too - maybe at the bottom of the google page, or the apps page if I split the rectangle background?
Also, I'm thinking of swapping the position of the top 'navbars' and the bottom searchbar, so that I can have a persistent google search (which only displays on the top with no option to place it on the bottom (Nova Launcher). This would require changing the wallpaper background to have the zooper widget search box as part of the background, with the actual search widget on top of it, unless there's a way to have the search zooper widget act/behave exactly like the google search bar?
I plan to release the files when done if anyone is interested
Lock screen is temporary until I figure out what to do with that - ideas/suggestions?
Thanks in advance guys.

With a layout as clean as you have now, I would be concerned that putting in music controls would complicate things unnecessarily. You might consider hiding the music controls using popup widget 2, or something similar. This would allow you to have music controls at the touch of a button, but not persistent (so that if you aren't listening to music they aren't in the way).
Auto popup with important info (short)
Hello,
I have been on this forum for a short moment now. And like to say thank you first for all the help so far. Thank you for your patience too!
You guys and girls have helped me root and customise my phones.
On topic:
I see there is a need to educate users for the right way to post messages. I suggest a kind of popup with the most important rules.
One of the important issues is that the forum is being filled with posts that are not at right place.
Like developer forum where questions are asked. I myself made myself guilty as well. Been thinking how to correct it.
The solution might be as follows:
- Create a popup that shows the most important rules.
- The same popup has a link to the more complete rules page.
- at the end people sign they acknowledge they have read it and understand.
- Then people can press ok
- A new popup shows (based on login). It shows a quiz and will ask questions. If the user does not know, he /she will not get access to
the forum at all!
- All users must complete this test! Not completing equals no access. After completing you will be sure the user knows the rules.
- Extra precausion, or called penalty if a user does something that is not right. No warning given, but the penalty will be given like
unable to login. Let's say 2 days to start with. With a second violation the period is extended to 1 week. Third time 1 month offline.
Forum admin keep the right to freeze a user and put that user onto a blacklist any time. Which means no access any longer.
Perhaps combine that with IP registration.
I don't know about you, but if I really need an answer fast, I would think twice to make big mistakes again and again.
I know the forum is not the quickest in answering, but people do answer, and usually have good answers.
Hope these suggestions are usefull. B.t.w. this website looks really good! :good: But the content that is offered, outmatches the looks
by a million times. The data, tools, apps made by you guys and roms are priceless!
Keep on the good work

MTCH head units - replace clock 'screensaver'

Hi. I'm looking to write a screensaver clock for my unit, but I'm not sure it's possible.
All I know about the unit is that it's a Rockchip, PX5, Android 10, 4.19.111+, MTCH_MX2_V3.80_1.
I mean, there's more things in the settings, but these are the ones that seem relevant.
I don't know who manufactures it, even.
The (stock) launcher calls itself Launcher3, but I'm not sure that helps much.
First of all, to justify the thread title, I was surpised to find there are MTCB and MTCD forums, but not MTCH. At this point it's not even clear to me what the different is between the various MTC*, I gather it has something to do with chipsets, but my expectation then would be for chipset-specific issues and discussions to be a small part of the forum, and by the organisation that doesn't seem to be the case. So in lack of an MTCH forum I'm writing here, and hoping someone explains what would be the most adequate place.
My unit has a 'screensaver' which consists of a white on black digital hh:mm clock, with am/pm and the date in small letters. It doesn't seem to be configurable and is quite not what I wanted. The only setting availble for it seems to be Settings -> Display -> Audio Screen Timeout, which can be a certain amount of time or 'never'. That setting is actually OK for me, the problem is it doesn't do anything else other than controlling the 'when'. I'm not sure if regular Android has this setting. The name certainly sounds weird, and it has nothing to do with audio, the clock will start after the idle time regardless of what's on screen (unless it's the settings app or the navigation, and maybe other apps block it too).
The actual Screensaver setting where you choose a screensaver is not visible in the UI. By installing https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=systems.sieber.fsclock I'm able to open the Screensaver settings using a shortcut the app has, amd there I can see the stock clock app the unit comes with, plus the clock app I've just mentioned installing, as well as Picture Table and the other Picture Something whose name I don't recall right now. When I install other apps with screensavers, they show up in the list as well. The thing is, the first time I accessed the setting, none of the screensavers in the list were selected, and the 'screensaver' I'm trying to replace is not in the list. And choosing any one of the available screensavers apparently has no effect. Choosing 'Start now', which I imagine is a preview option, does nothing either. But the setting does get saved. I've tried rebooting, and the setting is kept, but it simply seems to do nothing.
Of course, probably this 'screensaver' is defined somewhere in some file, and not exposed in any UI. Worse, it may even be hardcoded, and worst of all I'm thinking it may not even be a screensaver at all. Maybe someone here has an idea what it is and if it can be changed, because I see that some other launchers also have their own screensavers or 'screensavers'.
Thank you for any input.
MTCH - is effectively MTCD platform

[CLOSED] Replace stcok 'screensaver' clock

Hi. I'm looking to write a screensaver clock for my unit, but I'm not sure it's possible.
(I'm placing this here because I've been told that MTCH is essentially the same as MTCD.
As far as I know, the right MTC* may even be orthogonal to the issue.)
