I know mastergrillo already has a thread similar to this, but I didn't see an option that had everything I wanted. I'm just sharing the version I made for myself in case anyone needs it. Flash at your own risk.
This is simply a stock Samsung Lollipop 5.0 rom (N900TUVUFOB6) for the T-Mobile Galaxy Note 3 (N900T) that includes the following features:
Features:
Rooted (SuperSU and Busybox included)
KNOX removed (it will still trip KNOX 0x1, but it won't annoy you about a security issue)
Deodexed (makes the system easier to MOD and is currently required for installing the Xposed framework)
Zipaligned (optimizes apk alignment to reduce memory usage)
Rom based /etc/init.d script support (doesn't require a kernel with init.d support, but it will still work fine if your kernel does [scripts shouldn't get run twice])
Untouched stock Samsung kernel
It was not debloated because what's bloat to me may be useful to someone else and vice versa. You can easily debloat it yourself using Titanium Backup or a debloating script.
Nothing else was touched, and all T-Mobile based features like wifi calling work fine.
Issues:
No issues that I know of.
Installation instructions
Note: This rom does not include the lollipop bootloader or modem, so it's recommended to update both of those first if you haven't already.
Do a full backup
Flash with TWRP recovery (other custom recoveries may work, but it hasn't been tested)
Wipe dalvik cache, system, data, and cache partitions before installing. You probably don't have to wipe the data partition if you're coming from the original Samsung Lollipop 5.0 (this will preserve your apps and settings), but I haven't tested it.
May take 10 to 20 minutes for first boot (it will stay on the t-mobile logo for a while). Just be patient.
Stagefright vulnerability fix
There's a patch available to fix the stagefright vulnerabilities (credit goes to mastergrillo for this). The patch can be installed with TWRP immediately after installing the rom (you don't need to reboot first).
Other MODs that are compatible with this ROM (not included)
External sdcard write fix (allows apps to write to the external sdcard)
Android 6.0 Marshmallow boot animation (here's a video of what it looks like)
Xposed framework
Note: Xposed is still in alpha status for Lollipop, so some modules may still have issues.
First install XposedInstaller_3.0_alpha4.apk (or newer) from here
And then flash xposed-v75-sdk21-arm-arter97-snapdragon.zip (or newer) from here using TWRP. The important parts of the filename that should stay the same are "sdk21" (for Lollipop 5.0.x) and "snapdragon" (for our chipset).
If you have any questions or issues with Xposed, please ask them in arter97's Xposed thread.

@dirtybudha
The data service problem has been fixed in version 1.1 (OP updated with link).
The bug happened because I forgot to include the CSC files from the original Samsung rom. I didn't notice the bug because I manually flashed the CSC files after flashing the rom, which fixed the problem for me.
Anyways, I reflashed the new version myself using the flashing instructions in the OP to verify that it was corrected. It should work fine now.
..
Thanks! Will flash and report back.
Update: Data works! Bluetooth won't turn on. I'm sending a pm with a logcat.

Hey, I just tested bluetooth on my phone, but I can't replicate your problem. It's working fine for me. You may want to try clearing the caches if you haven't already. I did a full wipe (system, data, cache, and dalvik cache) when flashing version 1.1.
How did you flash version 1.1? Was it a clean install? Can you please tell me what you wiped? Have you tried this bluetooth device on the stock lollipop before?
If anyone else has tried bluetooth, please post your results.
Thanks
And can you please tell me the device you tried to pair with the phone, or would bluetooth just not turn on at all when you tried to enable it?
Edit:
btw.. are you running the lollipop bootloader and modem?
It was a clean install, wiped caches, data, system. I do this ever time i flag a ROM. I do have the bootloader and modem for Lollipop. I'm currently running stock Lollipop, and have been for a while.
I was trying to pair my Asus Zenwatch. Problem is that the Bluetooth Jay wouldn't turn on at all.
Let me try again. Could have been a bad a download or the moon wasn't in the right place last night.
Update: it was a bad download, apparently. Seems like everything is working so far.
About to backup everything and flash Xposed.

I've actually been looking for exactly this. Being that it is bone stock is it safe to assume that Wifi calling and everything else works?
If you read through the OP you will see that this ROM is almost entirely stock for the T-Mobile Note 3. That means WiFi Calling works. I just turned it on and everything is in order.

Xposed took some thinking, all anyone needs to do is flash the Alpha 4 file. So far it shows that it is up and running. Although my multi window manager wasn't able to work, it may not be compatible with lollipop. I'll have to go through and test some of the apps later. I just left the FC Dallas soccer game and I'm headed home to watch the Dallas Cowboys play.
Great work! I, as well as the community, appreciate your contribution.

I believe you also have to install arter97's xposed-v71-sdk21-arm-arter97-V6-snapdragon.zip in order for xposed to work properly on Samsung roms.
I thought that was already done? What was done to make this ROM Xposed ready?

Nothing was done except deodexing it, which is what is needed for arter97's xposed files to work. When I mentioned that you'd still need to install arter97's stuff, I thought that would be clear (but I may have added that after you downloaded it).
I didn't want to include arter97's xposed files in case some people didn't want it, it's still in alpha status stability wise and gets updated often, and it can also easily be added by flashing arter97's latest file. I simply mentioned xposed ready, so people would know that it could be installed.
I've updated the OP to make it clearer.
Touche.
Well it worked great!

Hello!
I would like to know what did you choose to put on your Mi6, and how you're experience has been any of the three specific versions of the ROM. I am getting my Mi6 this week, and then, I'll be requesting the bootloader to be unlocked which would take a few more days.
I have been reading threads related of the three options that are available, but it would be good to have a thread which compares and discuss potential benefits when it comes to making a decision about which ROM to flash.
1. MIUI 9 Global ROM (Stable Version or Developer Version)
http://en.miui.com/download-326.html
This would be the more straightforward choice, and probably the Mi6 will come with it for me (unless it will have a fake ROM from GearBest then I will need to change it anyway). Therefore, either I could choose to stay on the Global ROM or consider the two options below which I want to.
2. MIUI 9 from Xiaomi.eu (Based on Chinese Beta)
https://xiaomi.eu/community/threads/7-9-21-22.41658/
I was strongly considering installing this as Xiaomi.eu has been around for a long time, and they have been compiling their ROM without any bloatware from MIUI 9 Global ROM. It sounds like a great option for long term use with regular updates, experienced developers and not having to keep trying different ROMs.
3. MIUI 9 (Epic ROM) by Mr. Raines (Xiaomi.eu Version or Global Version)
http://www.epicrom.pro/#sagit
Going by the description, it seems that there are lots of optimisations and features included and retained from MIUI from Xiaomi.eu while removing the bloatware further. And I am converging towards wanting to go for this ROM.
i.e, MIUI 9 with DOZE enabled, New apps added to OTA and MODs, Optimizations on TWRP installation and GAPPS, Better Intelligent CPU management and RAM. Gapps Pico pre-installed.
Now, it seems that this ROM has two variations now. If I understand this correctly, first they take the above Xiaomi.eu ROM and tune it further. But I also noticed that they started another thread with Epic ROM based on MIUI Global Version which offers the same tuning but from Xiaomi Global ROM.
Summary:
If we can just get some experienced feedback and recommendations in, and keep the discussion going then it would make the decision a lot easier. And I do wish to set my phone up and then, not really have to deal with changing ROMs every few months or so.
Let me know! Thanks.
p.s. Given that the kernel is out, and when a stable official Lineage OS ROM makes its way to us, then that would be an interesting option too, but I don't mind the MIUI interface as long as it is optimised as much as it can be.
Firstly sorry for my english, but i want to help you. I tried all these roms multiple times. Because i think my phone's standby battery drain is awful. I started with global beta and with this rom battery drain at night %6-8. And then read couple of thoughts about xiaomi.eu rom, i wanted to try. Yes, there was no bloatware, similar performance, little bit worse camera quality and a few differences(cause based on chinese beta). But my phone's standby drain was %5-6. Not a big difference. Then i saw epic rom and i tried. Again, no bloatware, similar perfrmance etc. and some extras like built-in ads blocker. Roms info said better battery performance, doze enabled etc. but unfortunately im disappointed again. Battery drain was %5-6 at night(wifi, gps, nfc etc. everything off). Although, I have friends who say they are happy with epic rom. My suggestion is, you should try global beta first and then try epic rom for benefits. Now, i am on global beta cause i dont to want to try anymore different roms and custom roms benefits are not that important for me. İ hope i could help.
I've got the exact same problem as ozguremek12 with battery standby on all roms... it seems like the phone doesn't enter deep sleep state on miui.
There's not THAT much difference between them tbh, I'd go with the global one just because it saves you the hassle of having to unlock your bootloader. I've yet to try Lineage, which I will once Oreo build is available for this device.
well, I have tried all of MIUI ROMS (dev, stable, china, global) and also MIUI.EU and to tell the truth global dev suit me the most but with root
If you uninstall few bloatware you will achieve ca 2 days standby and 6h SOT
I was only with MIUI because of FBE (which MIUI.EU didn't have), but now when most custom ROM offer encryption , to tell the truth, I can't see anything to stick with MIUI(maybe if someone need bootloader locked)
I found more bugs in global dev than some custom ROMS eg Lineageos from @xiaobai112220 is really nice and stable
At theese moment I am in Mokee ROM and I am happy.
PS.I wasn't able to get lower than 0,6% battery drain per hour during the night.
I`ve been using epic rom for about 2 months now.
It is very stable, absolutely everything works and I also get around 4 to 4:30 sot everyday - which is quite decent imo.
The only bug I experienced is on the stock calendar app - when I choose the "all day" option when creating a event, it switches to the year of 1969 - so I installed google calendar and now everything is 100%.
The camera quality is stunning as well.
This is my recommendation.
Global stable has too much bloatware.

Hi all,
I am completely new to the Xiaomi world (I prefer stock Android and easy root usually), but I got an excellent offer to buy this beast today.
I will buy this device, only if the following is possible.
- Unlock bootloader
- Root with Magisk
- Pass Safetynet check
- Install AFWall
- Install Adaway
Has anybody done this yet?
I don't want to know "how" (I can ask/figure out that later). I just want to know whether it is possible/relatively straight forward?
Thanks!

Yes, all done. Very easy and straightforward. Stick to xiaomi.eu roms for best miui experience or latest AICP Oreo treble rom for 95-99% working Android stock experience. Currently on 8.8.9 xiaomi.eu and have all except afwall on mine since I don't use that app.
I recommend the 6gb/128gb from TradingShenzhen with xiaomi.eu installed - it will have unlocked bootloader right out of the box - many of us went with this version. Easiest/best experience.
If you go with any other version, check out my buggy vendor thread to flash to xiaomi.eu rom easily.

Quick follow up question. Is it possible to keep encryption on the userdata partition with the latest TWRP? I really like if my data is encrypted.

I got my device today. I like it!! I got the global version 9.6.7.0.
Looks like I "only" need to wait 360 hours to unlock

I have a three more questions now.
#1 Is there a reason not to use this global 9.6.7.0 ROM (other than the ads). Are there any big bugs in this global version? If not, I will probably start rooting this version first Should I update the global version?
#2 You mentioned

There seem be to many newer versions than that. And also a "MIUI 10.0/10.1 STABLE RELEASE" (oct 24th). Is there a reason you are still on that old version?
#3 I understand not having ARB is better if you need to downgrade (without bricking). Is there a reason to downgrade frequently in the Xiaomi world? Is this because people need to switch back and forth between the Chinese and global ROM? And since I have the global version, can I ignore ARB?

1) EU is just better (has more features baked in - universal face unlock, theme store, etc), less bloated, and more updated.
2) Stable release is fine, but I just prefer beta updates - faster fixes, more features introduced, and tested more by users = more feedback.
I'm on 8.8.9 eu strictly because:
a) It's pretty flawless for me.
b) If it's not broken why fix it? I haven't seen anything worth jumping ship for.
c) It's NON-ARB; I'll only upgrade to ARB if and once I see a better working pie release (coming soon supposedly) because a data wipe may be necessary. I'll use migrate app (faster than titanium backup) to backup all my apps and then restore them onto the new rom.
3) Honestly, having ARB is not a big issue especially since the updated EU roms are solid. However, my points back in number 2 still stand. You can flash to and back from treble gsi roms on ARB and NON-ARB without any issues. However, no matter what anyone tells you, gsi roms for our phone are not perfect. They're only 95% usable. They are still missing mono speaker, volte, and some other things that some say are working without evidence or thorough testing. @MrColdbird just tested a few of the latest if not all of the gsi roms, and he's in agreement with me - they're almost there, but not 100% yet. Stick to xiaomi.eu roms for a complete rom. Just my humble opinion .
If you have any other questions, just ask. I hope this was informative enough.
@opasha @MrColdbird
Have u guys tried latest AOSPExtended Pie GSI? I loved this rom on my previous device.
https://downloads.aospextended.com/download/treble_gsi/pie_arm64_aonly/AospExtended-v6.0-arm64_aonly-20181117-0000-OFFICIAL.zip
Currently I'm also on 8.8.9 run and waiting for Pie build.
Anyone tried cutting of files from firmwareupdate folder to avoid ARB activation.
I've found solution that cutting firmware folder, leaving only files associated with modem shouldn't break anything and won't trigger ARB. Is it working on latest eu builds?
Files that allegedly have to stay in firmwareupate folder to not trigger arb:
.BTFM.bin
cmnlib.mbn
cmnlib64.mbn
devcfg.mbn
dspso.bin
NON_HLOS.bin
splash.img

Regarding
> I'm on 8.8.9 eu strictly because ... It's NON-ARB
I was under the impression that EU is non-arb by design?
https://xiaomi.eu/community/threads/do-eu-roms-remove-anti-rollback.47145/#post-451617
I guess I haven't understood this ARB stuff 100% yet? And obviously this is a moving target. Posts only one or two months might be already outdated haha
Having said that, you convinced me about Eu.
And I guess in 15 days there will be new developments anyway (no pun intended).
So I had MIUI 10.0 installed including magisk. I'm not using TWRP so I can update through updater app.
Now I updated to 10.3.5 but didn't keep in mind that magisk will be deleted.
Is there now a way I can install magisk (or any other root app) without flashing a new rom and keeping all my data?
Thanks for any help!

Just use xiaomi eu and have twrp installed. Ota updates are really not that important. I dont like stock miui as it drains battery a lot and performs so bad, just try other custom miui based roms and im sure you will like it.
Apps like kingroot, 1 click root are for old android phones and some other non famous devices. Companies like xiaomi will take their caution against these applications as like they made you activate your phone if you flash custom miui roms(in case where you dont factory reset and go for system wipe)
I already tested two custom roms which I liked but there weren't newer version from them. I wanted MIUI 10 so I went back to stock rom.
Can you recommend me some MIUI 10 custom roms? Didn't check any new stuff for almost a year now...
I think that you can easily find answers for your questions on this forum?

Xiaomi eu gets china updates every friday(9.5.x version).
RevolutionOS gets updated every month.
You cant ota update tho(gives error for me). I update the rom once a month or if i see an important change in the changelogs. No need to wipe user data, just caches.
I would go for eu as they provide frequently as stock miui and better in battery-performance. Not to mention they got a solid community and a big forum unlike most of the others. Also you can use an eas kernel called skizo with it. You can find the latest skizo in Telegram group. Contact @spak for his announcement channel.
Thanks for your recommendation, gonna look into it!

i agree with @kennymaster. although i cant wait till the day i can get rid of MIUI, for the time being feel like i should still stick to the stock ROM considering the the issues. Havoc, RR had their share of users but still cant convince myself to jump the ship. little old now for this ROM hopping business maybe
Are their any changes in the last days/weeks? I'm also looking for a good working ROM. Mostly, i want to get rid of MIUI but in first, the most important is to get the most functions working without Bloatware and Ads.
After many years with Xiaomi phones and custom ROM's I have reverted to stock MIUI ROM - debloated with ....
XiaomiADBFastbootTools.jar
.... and find it the best compromise for battery life, optimisations, lack of bugs etc etc etc
Yeah thats what i done yesterday after the phone arrived -> i have set it up so minimal like it was possible, then debloated it but got after debloating maximal issues with camera, system freezes and unexpected restarts/shutdowns instead of just kill the mi browser, video and all that stuff

Thank you for the answer mate!
I'm amazed that the situation has not moved on at all since I first got this device over a year ago now I think?
So to be sure, is it still a bit dodgy to even just debloat the device as yet?

Honestly im surprised as well. I bought this phone so early assuming the attention it would get (and i have a track record of pumping out ROMs for my devices but regardless. Im certain there will eventually be bug free builds its the lack of interest and probably with all the other crap going on in the world XDA in general has been kind of slow so on that hand i shouldn't be surprised. Regardless
Il dont mean to come across in a bragging way so excuse me if it comes across like that because i barely consider myself a dev lmao but all my past devices i had dozens of separate threads with at least weekly releases (daily was killing me lol) so i was ready to give our device the same treatment! I just didn't think they were going to raise the specs to what they are now for a PC that can compile the builds
I think that the best Note 9S ROM is the AOSiP port, at least the Curtana version which I am using. I went through four or five of them in a month, starting with Lineage, and had various and sundry issues. Tried going to Resurrection and stuck in a bootloop even. Went to AOSiP and it Just Worked™. Fast and bug free in my experience, too. Rooted with Magisk, extensions to tame the usual (battery life, charging limitation, etc.) and it's my daily driver now.
I'm using Extended, it's a good ROM, stable and with good battery life. It have miui camera and a lot of customisations.
It's my daily ROM.
I tested PE, Havoc, but the best is Extended.

I think its becouse you are trying to open files without third party applications installed. When you trying to open video, for exaple, OS will search the memory to find applications that can open this video, if it does not find it, it opens it via a default application which is MiVideo but it is not there because it has been uninstalled, OS does not know what to do next so it repeats the script and again and again and so on, this is why the phone freezes or resets, so to fix it you need to install e.g. VLC and give it permission when you first time run that app (NOPE for Localization always!xD)
TL;TR: If you remove an application that is pre-installed then you need to install an alternative for that application.
In the picture you can see what's left of the preinstalled apps on my phone (they can't be removed or are not 100% safe to remove or simply I use them) and I've never had freezes and other such problems.
PS: I removed preinstalled Game Turbo its "com.xiaomi.glgm" and I downloaded (apkpure, fdroid, aurora) and installed it manually because I was afraid that the pre-installed one uses cleanmaster which I removed.
PS2: sry for my english
Do I understand correct that no one is posting links to the Roms they us, cause these roms are not on XDA forum?
Than where to look?
Sincerely
Julian
I'm using secret technique called "Google Jutsu It" and I can't tell how to do it. But I can tell you BlissRom looks good too
